Advise and Consent by Alan Drury was a great novel set back in the days of the Cold War about Senate hearings for a Secretary of State who lies about his communist affiliations. In particular, the British actor Charles Laughton was great as southern senator "Seab" Cooley. I don't want to spoil the story, but if you haven't read the book or seen the movie, you should do so.

But the real question is: Why don’t the media — the watchdog legions who trekked to Sarah Palin’s Alaska hometown to scour for every kernel of gossip, and who were so desperate for Bush dirt that they ran with palpably forged military records — want to dig into Obama’s background?

I remember the controversy about this film when it came out. While on the long side, the acting was first notch. In particular Charles Laughton (in his last role), Don Murray and Burgess Meredith.

Palin is not "unemployed"; she is simply no longer the governor of Alaska. It's an Obi-Wan situation in that she'll be able to do much more good now that she's no longer a sitting target for constant frivolous lawsuits and the same old tired dismissed ethics investigations.

McCain had to have run one of the WORST campaigns I've ever seen. Simply amateur. The MSM were all too happy to "not help". My only comfort nowadays is that the DNC is self-destructing itself by heading ever leftward, and the rest of the country is not happy. We may be able to stop them before they completely consolidate power, Soviet-style.

Then "The One" said, "I am the "The One" – The Messiah – and I'm here to save you! We shall just print more money so everyone will have enough!"

I'll also let it slip that Michelle Obama is seeing Alec Baldwin on the sly, and that Barney Frank is also seeing Alec Baldwin on the sly.

And just think. If you guys didn't have your heads in the sand about the Zio-criminals running the GOP for Israel's sake, we could have had Ron Paul in office. Your gun rights would have been expanded and not infringed. Government would be getting smaller, not growing. You wouldn't have La Raza candidates like Sotomayor on the Supreme Court. You wouldn't be getting Amnesty for the illegals. You wouldn't be getting "cap and trade" legislation that will run the few remaining businesses and jobs out of the country. But the Zio-crooks running the GOP needed an AIPAC stooge like McCain and ALL OTHER THINGS can be sacrificed. All to be sacrificed in order to give Israel a blank check to attack its neighbors and steal land in the Middle East. When will Americans stand up for America?

As a film school grad, I do sympathize with her plight BUT, I would rather drop dead than sue my college for not finding me a job. I knew going in that the job placement department wouldn't be of much use (they weren't) which is why I took matters into my own hands. Sure it wasn't easy but I got a few good production assistant gigs out of it as well as a great studio temp job. All I did was look at the online ads and make some calls.

A couple days ago I read David McGowan's online, not completed, nor really focused, book in progress The Strange but Mostly True Story of Laurel Canyon and the Birth of the Hippie Generation: http://www.davesweb.cnchost.com/index.html.

McGowan is a screaming American-is-wrong about everything conspiracy theorist.
Although many of his conclusions are bogus (partly because he is too young to remember the KGB threat), he has edited together a very impressive number of facts.

I don't like this writer. He is nasty and self-righteous. However, conspiracy theories interest me and he promises very interesting muckraking

His thesis is that "What one finds, far more often than not, are the sons and daughters of the military/intelligence complex and the sons and daughters of extreme wealth and privilege – and oftentimes, you’ll find both rolled into one convenient package."

Did you know for instance that Jim Morrison's father was the admiral in charge of the Gulf of Tonkin episode that escalated the Viet Nam war?

Further, in the first three chapters he recounts – off the top of my head – about 35 deaths, many of which are probably murders, of the famous who resided in Laurel Canyon.

The book descends into sinuendo of this ilk: Jim Morrison had no interest in music, singing, playing an instrument or writing. And no one in his band had ever worked in a band before. He then within a few weeks wrote all the songs that would make him a rock & roll legend. Did Jim make a deal with Lucifer?

Does McGowan know anything about creative inspiration? I believe that Kerouac wrote On The Road on a typewriter in a motel in a week (maybe two).

Everything is a conspiracy with McGowan. It’s ridiculous. For instance he uses several buzzwords and conspiracy concepts who for audiences that are into them are conversation-enders. All he has to do is mention “bloodlines” and everything else that he says is taken as gospel because we all understand the Illuminati/Rockefeller/Rothschild dynasties and their lackeys.

McGowan (and this is deplorable) attacks Hollywood families for trouble they had 6 or 7 decades ago before the hippies were ever a twinkle in their mothers’ eyes.

He’s maybe worth a speed-read if you are a hard-core conspiracy theorist, but stick strictly to his facts. His factoids and conclusions are genuinely suspect, if not outright bogus.

Nevertheless, if you want to understand many of the sordid underpinnings of modern leftist thinking, this book is a wake-up call. Murders, cover-ups, suicides, child-molestations, mansions burned to the ground, porn, drugs, and Satanists are what this book is about from beginning to end. It turns out that Charles Manson was on the scene with nearly everyone in Laurel Canyon (not that he was close very many of them).

After reading this, I don’t think that a story can be told about the left without including a Boogie Nights subtext. Thank you Burt Reynolds.

So, I LOVE Walter Matthau, but I'm really hesitating over seeing this movie First Monday in October. It's described as a political comedy about a very liberal supreme court justice clashing with a new conservative woman judge on the court. I'm hesitating because I really don't want my Matthau buzz to be killed by your typical liberal bias, cold-hearted-conservative-sees-the-light kinda film, which unfortunately is the vibe i'm getting just based on past experience with plots like these (plus, in Hopscotch, Matthau took way too many unneeded swipes at conservatives and ruined it for me), so, anybody seen it, any recommendations? Surprisingly fair, and focused just on the comedy? Or is it heavy on the liberal bs and I should just go watch Cactus Flower again? Ah, Goldie…

Can one not help wondering JUST HOW MUCH Saudi and Arab money might be invested in our news media? Given the outrages they let pass regarding Muslims, there has to be a substantial amount. Otherwise, what other explanation could there be?

Tennessee: It's too bad that they didn't do the entire Drury series of novels as movies. Even today, his predictions of the slow dismantling of America by liberals and socialists while weak-sister Presidents left the way open to foreign invasion are germane. He even had his favorite target–bigtime liberal newspaper columnists (although he probably didn't envision how important the liberal TV talking-heads would become).

One of the many things that I enjoy about the film is the the things that you can't do in 2009 that you could do in 1962. Things like, Park your car a next to the Capital Building and walk up the steps. when you could drive down Pennsylvania Ave. and see from the car where the President lives.

<i.I really don't have anything against the Bourne films (I know I'm in the minority on that one) but they're not exactly, you know, fun to watch. They're well put together and have some great action and FX but they have this brooding quality that I can't quite explain. On Nolte's old site (the defunct Libertas blog), someone was talking about Robocop and how action movies of that era had a certain "purity." Who knows?

There was never any conscious glorification of violence in action films. With the ascendance of liberal guilt in Hollywood, however, action films became more self-conscious, and one begins to find a certain volitional avoidance of the glorification of violence. I'm not sure when the line was crossed, but at some point Hollywood recognized that while they still enjoyed making these movies, they felt guilty about enjoying this sort of material — or worse, they began thinking that they should feel guilty about it. That, if anything, is what diluted the "purity" of the classic action film.

In addition to remembering Navy Seal Marc Lee, it would also be appropriate to remember Michael Scott Speicher, shot down and MIA since the first night of the 1991 Gulf War.

Speicher's remains have been found and postively identified, according to an AP release on Breitbart minutes ago.

Once again, inspired by recent movies presented here, I decided to watch Action Jackson. I thought it was a lot of fun! You have Carl Weathers, some gratuitous 80s movie nudity, half the supporting cast from Die Hard (including Robert Davi), some good action sequences, and a henchman named Mr. Edd (yes, he actually says, "Hello, I'm Mr. Edd" at one point)!

I mentioned this to some friends and asked why they don't make 'em like this anymore. One friend, a former Marine BTW, said they try to make action movies "too deep" nowadays. I really don't have anything against the Bourne films (I know I'm in the minority on that one) but they're not exactly, you know, fun to watch. They're well put together and have some great action and FX but they have this brooding quality that I can't quite explain. On Nolte's old site (the defunct Libertas blog), someone was talking about Robocop and how action movies of that era had a certain "purity." Who knows?

If the Republicans ever get the white house again, are they going to just invite the same networks to the press pool? What is the point of this? The MSM networks declared open war on the Republicans and open fealty to Obama during the last election. Why would anyone reward them for that?

I suggest that during the next Republican administration, at least one or two of the most egregious lefty cheerleaders in the media be denied a white house press pass, and those should be awarded to Republican-friendly (or at least neutral) news organizations like Breitbart.

In honor of Palin's resignation speech a month ago on July 3, 2009, I completed a video titled "THE PALIN NATION." It shows the continued and growing support for Sarah Palin. I wish the video could inspire others to remain loyal, dedicated and active in defending Sarah Palin and the values that she advocates. Ron Paul would have pulled about 20% of the vote in a national election. Did you ever actually listen to the guy talk, or have you just read about him on the internet? I've watched politics for a long time, and that guy was not electable. Sorry.
