Name this movie: An ace CIA operative, condemned as a rogue and now hunted by the Company, bashes and crashes his way through colorful foreign settings, pursued by heavily armed hit men, while back at Langley headquarters an inscrutable deputy director and one of his top lieutenants are arousing the...

What is this "teachable moment" crap we keep hearing about regarding the so-called beer summit? What gets me is somehow Officer Crowley is supposed to "learn" what from this situation? Not to arrest a black?
Snapperhead.
I am trying to work up enthusiam for commenting about Andrew Dyce Clay this morning and just cannot for the life of me summon any.
After the Michael Jackson death and the subsequent "funeral" at the Staples Center in Los Angeles I turned to my wife and said, "You know, this reminds me of that funeral at the beginning of Ford Fairlane when Vince Neil gets flown in in that glass casket." Life imitating art? I'm sure there were scalpers there as well.

For the life of me I have difficulty grasping the logic, even with the 'cash for clunkers' incentive, why people would knowingly go into debt trading in a decent car for one that gets a few more mpg. The 'savings' in the cost of gasoline the newer car over the older, will never amortize the expenditure for the new car.
And quite frankly, some of the cars and trucks considered 'clunkers' I've seen are pretty decent to begin with.
Guess the rationale is 'as long as somebody else (taxpayers) are paying for it, why not?'
And these people get to vote………………
Booty time, booty time…..across the USA
Booty time, booty time…..hey, hey hey.!
I have a question that perhaps my fellow BH pundits could help out with. Being something of an amateur psychologist, I've been trying to understand the thinking of liberals for years. (I know they feel more than think.) But here goes: I can't speak for other conservatives, but to me, the word "racist" has been overused and watered down to the point that it's pretty meaningless. Yet, everywhere we turn (even sometimes on this forum by trolls and the like) we're being told that because we disagree with Obama's policies, we are, by fiat, "racist." Which begs a few questions. (a) Do they truly believe that conservatives would be perfectly content with government-run health care, confiscatory taxes under cap-and-trade, government taking over private industries, etc. if the president was white? (b) Or are they merely automatically defending a fellow lefty and casting about for something to throw at us, and 'Oh, there's that handy-dandy racist label. Let's throw that at 'em!' because their guy is (conveniently) black? (c) Or is it just something they say automatically without even necessarily realizing they're saying it, like "Bless you" when someone in the room sneezes? Thoughts?
Knee-jerk reaction libs calling someone with an opposing opinion 'racist'.
A spin-off of the 'when you don't have facts to support your argument, start calling names.'
'Racist' is the trendy name now since Obama and Gates have brought it to the fore.
I think some of our sharper conservative minds should be able to devise a way to turn 'racist' back on libs.
wait, you guys don't dance around singing "Springtime for Hitler" in your brown shirts?
what ever happend to that guy anyway?

Wasn't Wayne freakin Newton the bad guy in this??
Excuse me?
since all rightwingers are racists isn't that our theme song?
I could have sworn we decided that at the last rally
Nein!
I think it was a reference to a Mel Brooks movie….The Producers….
When a leftie like Janine Garofolo spits that word out, it illustrates a complete lack of intelligence on her part. She doesn't have the brain cells to understand how someone could be opposed to Obama's policies, so she has to resort to the path of least resistance.
Taking a more critical look at the situation and coming to a logical conclusion requires more time and energy than she is willing to devote so she just throws racism around. It's a silly thing to say, but it's meant to "shock" people. All I do when some dolt accuses me of racism is shake my head at them as I would a small, dull child.
So my answer is lefties aren't smart enough to think of anything else and just lash out like a petulant child….
A New Hope.

I have just read all of this woman's articles from American Thinker. She is a self-proclaimed recovering liberal.
Couple this with others coming out of the closet, I now am not so despairing of our country's future.
Yes, we have a long row to hoe. And it looks bleak with Obama, Pelosi and Reid queing up to ram, slam and otherwise jam Obamacare down our collective throats, I have hope now.
I believe that there are far more Robin of Berkley's out there. Hidden behind a pair of cheap sunglasses, and dirty hair, there might be lurking a conservative.
Thank you.
I'm in the process of re-railing my train of thought.
Good luck with that….
Now all I can think about is the campfire scene in Blazing Saddles….
Obama brings Gates to his “Beer Can” summit.
Obama to Gates.
Professor I have really stepped in it here, my Presidency is on the line with the people questioning my racial objectivity, please we have been friends for years, do you think you could give this good police office some type of apology?
No.
Professor the economy and things are very tight unemployment is high the last thing this nation needs is more racial division, couldn’t you please help heal this racial divide between people and bring us closer together as a people, please just give this officer who would risk his life to save yours and was just doing his job some type of apology?
No
Professor young black kids are being gunned down daily in this country 15 shot just the other day in my hometown Chicago, kids they are being taught to hate and mistrust the police and are ending up in gangs as thugs and won’t cooperate with the police to make their neighborhoods safer please for the kids Sir couldn’t you just offer this policeman some type of apology?
No
Professor Gates is a man of integrety or substance just an arrogant little black prick.
If Ghostbusters was released in 1954, instead of 1984

I read where they are now suspending the cash for clunkers program.
"just an arrogant little black prick"
I'm think that this is the more accurate description. Of course A prick is a prick is a prick regardless of color.

A little light reading for open thread Friday.
The Communist Takeover Of America
45 Declared Goals
You are about to read a list of 45 goals that found their way down the halls of our great Capitol back in 1963. As you read this, 39 years later, you should be shocked by the events that have played themselves out.(this was posted in 2002)

Wheat – that's probably why I can't summon enthusiasm. I think his legacy was "I may be crude, but at least I'm not funny."
I'm with you Jed. I think I saw one routine, but it didn't impress me.
Yep, and his name was Grendel. I think I was the only one laughing when I heard it, too
Simple, the President's PR team is proving to us what a gosh darn wonderful guy the president is. Powerful enough to look Iran in the eye and blink, yet still simple enough to sit down with a couple of feuding guys, and help clear the air.
Starting next week the President will begin pulling orphans from the window of burning buildings, saving cats stuck in trees, and put his final touches on his new car design that gets 100 mpg from burning "bad vibes."
If I remember correctly didn't Clay hit the big times about the same time political correctness and multi-culti became the fad?
He was a nice distraction from all that. And 20 years later, I think we'd all be better off if we still had him instead of all this PC crap.
That's the only thing I remember from this movie. Al Bundy the disco singer – gotta love that part.
As near as I can tell, the concept of "cash for clunkers" is nothing more than paying one guy to dig a hole and then paying another to fill it in.
A set amount of wealth goes into constructing a car. Everything from mining the ore for steel, to running the cafeteria for the workers on the assembly line, to posters at the show room advertising it. That wealth is already spent. The vehicles still posses that wealth and can be used. Destroying them for the sole purpose of feeding the production process is a waste of the potential those vehicles still have.
Think of it like a tube of toothpaste, designed to prevent you from getting to the last 10% of the product, so you have to waste it and go buy more. Its nothing but waste.
The liberal definition of a racist is anyone who disagrees with them. They do that to a lot of words, change the definition in order to frame the debates. For example pro-abortion has become "pro-choice." The list is endless.
When normal people read 1984 in high school, we were mortified by the government's control of the language. Liberals took notes.
My opinion is its one of their biggest cons, they've co-opted the English language. They decide what words mean. Which reduces the opposition (conservatives and republicans) to arguing over language, while they act.
The right really needs to work on taking back the English language.
Never had a problem with his anti-pc material, just never found him funny. The guy who, to me, is doing the best job of anti-pc skewering of liberals is Iowahawk. If you don't have his blog site on your "favorites" you are missing out (although you can link from this site as well.)
What I wished Officer Crowley had learned was not to show up for this silly photo op. I saw him reading a prepared statement after the event, and he showed about the same enthusiasm for it as those jihadist hostages with five guys in black hoods standing behind them.
Though not as quotable as he was in Purple Rain, gotta love Morris "Yissssssss" Day as Don Cleveland with this beat: "You got to shave before you leave the house in a dress like that… and I don't mean your legs."

Mmmm, Kari Wuhrer and, yes, this movie is my guiltiest of pleasures. Excellent call with the MJ/Vince Neil funeral comparison, too.
I agree that Iowahawk can be very, very funny, but he can also be very self-indulgent. Which detracts from the humor. Some of his pieces seem to go on and on, for no reason other than Iowahawk seems to be amusing himself by sustaining a particular literary voice.
I had a similar problem with Dice, in that the self-promotion and posturing gets old fast.
To be completely fair, Limbaugh can drop his "I'm the Greatest" act any time, as well.
The guys I hang out with all sit around singing the "Horst Wessel" while quaffing large amounts of imported German beer.
We're obviously the REAL "conservatives"…
Epithany!
Why I got Pepsi instead of Coca Cola:
Friend goes out to p/u the Thai food we ordered. I ask him to bring back a Coca Cola from the Chinese take-out place 23 paces away in the same mimi-mall. He comes back with a Pepsi – and not a particularly cold one.
Why?
Because he went to the Subway that is between the Thai place and the Chinese take out place!
Ruined the meal!
BASTARD!
Did the Obama White House take Sgt. Crowley's credit card number to bill him for the beer?
I don't see any chips or pork rinds on the table there. Not even peanuts.
Don't even think about frigging wings!
SNACKS! WHICH WOULD THEY CHOOSE?
CROWLEY – ?
BIDEN – ?
OBAMA – ? Granola?
REV. WRIGHT II – ?
Wow…I'd actually buy that poster and hang it up.
It's your typical 80's movie, but you could tell the cast is having so much damn fun making it. It's easily the only time I've found Andrew Dice Clay funny (I don't care for his stand up) and yes, Wayne Newton is a great bad guy.
Oh, and Robert Englund (Freddy Kreuger) as a hit man. "'ello 'ello."
Re: Andrew Dice Clay
I never cared for his "act," but he had a short-lived sitcom in the 80's or early 90's that was actually very funny. Cathy Moriarty played his wife. It was sort of a modern Ralph and Alice or an old KIng of Queens. In any event, he was very good in it. My friends and I still quote lines from it.
He recently had a "reality" show on VH1 for about 6 months and I loved it. Why? That I cannot answer. It tickled my funny bone, I guess.
The latest couple of reviews for G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra both seem to agree that it would be an excellent film… if not for Marlon Wayans.

This was a pretty good movie…. just funny and his comedy routine is about as dead as Obama's healthcare plan…
Janet Napolitano… now it is OK to use the WORD TERROR…… "war on terror" is BACK!!!!! and I think I heard her mummble under her breath she was BACK after the right wing terrorists
Agreed. Iowahawk rocks! Jeff Dunham does a pretty good anti-pc bit too.

I keep seeing these articles from more liberal outlets (Yahoo, etc) trying to convince us that the recession is over now in spite of continuing rising unemployment, GDP continuing to fall, and a whole new slew of stealth taxes coming. This is only funny to me because it was these same liberal rocket scientist that spent 8 years trying to convince us the sky was falling under GWB until we finally believed them and it did fall. Now that things are in the crapper they're trying to convince us this toilet water is perrier.
This takeover has got to stop.
This takeover has got to be stopped.
Crowley – Irish cop from the Boston area? Ham and cabbage.
Biden – what ever some one else went through the trouble to fix.
Obama – Kobe beef medallions wrapped in arugula.
Rev. Wright – whitey.
Did Dunham "retire" "Achmed the Suicide Bomber"?
As far as I know, he's still doing it.
Ever since Pepsi chose to 'appropriate' Obama's logo, well I say NO PEPSI !! NO PEPSI !! COKE! COKE!
The last new material I saw from him was a special last Christmas, and Achmed was a big hit.
To the tune of Oh Holy Night: "Oh holy crap, I think I blew my foot off." There's also a great piece of improv between Achmed and guitar guy.
He was on tour last March and stopped at the local arena. I really wanted to go, but me and my family had watched the Christmas special about a dozen times, so we already new the material inside and out. And at $45 a ticket, had to pass it up.
Crowley? CRACKERS (obviously)
Biden? DUMDUMS
Obama? CROW
Gates? Caviar…naturally–"I'm a Haaavard professor, thank you! I didn't go to evil doctor school to be called Mister!"
I have read about 6 articles in the last few days that the RECESSION is over…… what do you mean trying to convince us, that it is over……. I thought that if I read the NY TIMES it is the truth…. and they said its over!!! bwhahahahahhahahaha
Great. love ol' Achmed…love when he spells Achmed…phlegm…
Congress, president overstep authority

How can political commentators, politicians and academics get away with statements like "Reagan budget deficits," "Clinton budget surplus," "Bush budget deficits" or "Obama's tax increases"? The only answer is that they, or the people who believe such statements, are ignorant, conniving or just plain stupid. Article I, Section 7 of the U.S. Constitution reads: "All bills for raising revenue shall originate in the House of Representatives; but the Senate may propose or concur with amendments as on other Bills." A president has no power to raise or lower taxes. He can propose tax measures or veto them but since Congress can ignore presidential proposals and override a presidential veto, it has the ultimate taxing power. The same principle applies to spending. A president cannot spend a dime that Congress does not first appropriate.

"You've got 47% of the people in our NBC/Wall Street Journal opinion poll who have health insurance who don't like what the president is doing. The problem he's got — 47% of the people who've got coverage don't want change. They don't like what they're hearing. Now, they may not know what's good for them, but the problem is that he always knew he was going to have to persuade people with insurance, that's the largest number, not the people without insurance, for expanded coverage. So they've got a real problem."

I'm sure it was a regular "fair" round table discussion. I don't know about officer Crowley, but the other 3 yo-yos at the table in the photo are flaming leftists.
I have realized for some time now that we need a movie that critiques the 60s from a conservative point of view. Juxtaposing the songs from our youth in ironic opposition to their original intent could create powerful images.
One example: everyone remembers the frontal picture of the naked Viet Namese toddler alone on the street in an urban war zone. What if the context was the 2 to 6 million that the commies slaughtered after we abandoned South East Asia and the sound track sang, “Hey Bungalow Bill, what did you kill? Bungalow Bill?
On a day like today (meaning any that B. Hussein O. Jr.’s bankster-paid-for legislators are in session), you can almost never go wrong with Bobby Dylan guilt tripping them: “Come senators and congressmen, please heed the call. Get out of the doorway. Don’t you block up the hall.”
I thought this was worth a belly laugh…
HAVANA (AP) – Benicio del Toro accepted a new Cuban government award for international artists at a ceremony in Havana on Thursday, while Bill Murray entertained a small audience by crooning from "As Time Goes By…. Steven Soderbergh's two-part, 4 1/2-hour biopic on Argentine-born revolutionary Ernesto "Che" Guevara, who helped Fidel Castro take power in Cuba in 1959, was a hit on the island, often showing in theaters that had not been refurbished since the 1950s."

Glowing 'Che' Movie Reviews Ignore Fact It was One of Worst BO Bombs in Film History
By P.J. Gladnick (Bio | Archive)
April 18, 2009 – 09:36 ET
"UPDATE: It turns out that "Che" was an even bigger flop than I reported earlier. The film budget was actually $58 million, not $40 million.
The two part movie "Che" has turned out to be one of the worst box office bombs in film history. How bad was it? Well, since opening last December, this movie has earned a grand total of just $1,432,057 as of the weekend of April 10-12."

Rudy tells Obama to shutup !
Rudy Giuliani, who has returned as a leading Republican spokesman, condemned Obama's health care plan in an interview with Sean Hannity.
He also offered, in response to the president's hope that the Gates arrest would be a "teachable moment," this:
"He's actually right. It is teachable. Here's the lesson: Shut up."

Obama's revealing body language
I am stunned that the official White House Blog published this picture and that it is in the public domain. The body language is most revealing.
Sergeant Crowley, the sole class act in this trio, helps the handicapped Professor Gates down the stairs, while Barack Obama, heedless of the infirmities of his friend and fellow victim of self-defined racial profiling, strides ahead on his own. So who is compassionate? And who is so self-involved and arrogant that he is oblivious?

No, it shouldn’t be given more publicity.'

As I believe Pete Townshend once said, nobody who hears "Won't Get Fooled Again" for the first time thinks it's skeptical about revolutions — he chalks it up to Roger's scream at the end.
I don't think that you saw my whole post. It was in three parts, but on my screen only the first part is there. I will try to post again tomorrow and see what happens.
My point was that ironic ideological opposing meanings were possible. The implications weren't necessarily confined by what artists said about their songs, but what listeners perceived.
G-Damn!
That almost brought a tear to my eye. An a-hole who has helped reign holy hell our way for a week gets an assist from his victim while his buddy strolls on by.
Chew on that, Gates and Obama.
Thanks for the link, mam.
Yesterday Ralph Benko posted in ParcBench (which I found via http://bighollywood.breitbart.com/) How Rock and Roll Saved America From Communism.
He uses lyrics from the Beatles, Stones and The Who as examples of their refutations of Marx, Lenin and Mao. Benko is half right, in that the lyrics can be read in the ways that he indicates; however, they were all also using what I call the Easy Rider Approach.
By that I mean that that movie worked for both those who loved the hippys and those who hated them. That was especially true of the ending. According to Peter Fonda, the flower children saw themselves as they lamented the rednecks shotgunning him and Dennis Hopper to death. The rednecks also thought the film worked because the addict freaks got exactly what they deserved.
The lyrics that Benko cites from the Beatles song Revolution explicitly reject Mao’s violence. That confused me as a young hippy dupe; however, it was easy to resolve. They were also about non-violence. Tricky. If I used that song as a way of programming my subconscious, I would never fight – exactly what the commies wanted.
Ford, where are you when we need you
- Up side yo obama head, damn, missed it by thaaaaaat much !!!!
The Stones Sympathy For The Devil works the same way. It overtly identifies the Russian Revolution with Satanism, but it also glamorizes Lucifer. Look how powerful he is. He killed the Kennedys, with a little help from his friends – you and me. This works on the viewers’ psyches something like the old whiskey ads that contained hidden images of penises and vaginas in the ice cubes.
In other words, using our fears and forbidden desires subliminally pulled us closer to hard liquor. Jaeger did the same for Satan. After all, Mick sings in the first person. With Sympathy For The Devil (one of my personal favorites), he converted more to drugs and perversions than he convinced to consider this song’s implications. Overtly Sympathy bashes ole Scratch, but underneath it all invited him into our psyches and souls.
The Who’s lyric, “We don’t get fooled again,” contains the same potential for ideologically opposing double entendres. The Left could listen and think about Nixon. A soldier in Viet Nam who also loved rock and roll thought about all the commie dupes back home, or worse yet, demoralizingly about Nixon.
I have realized for some time now that we need a movie that critiques the 60s from a conservative point of view. Juxtaposing the songs from our youth in ironic opposition to their original intent could create powerful images.

The "teaching moment is "being president obama means never having to say you are sorry." They must not be that good at their jobs because apparently neither you nor I "got" it.
Oh I think we've all been taught that Obama is our "daddy" now and we must obey. Had I been in Crowley's position, I wouldn't have showed up at the White House picnic table. It would have been in the Oval office with my union lawyer in tow, at a cop bar in Cambridge
, or not at all. Home court advantage.
Crowley handled it well, though. He definitely wasn't thrilled to be there but he handled it well.
there are more of us than we think. More are coming out of their stupor everyday. Do have hope!
That was a very well edited piece! Really enjoyed it. Thanks for the link!
I like the previous ones except no snacks for Crowley ( no beer either at least not more than a sip or two) Gotta stay light in case the conversation turns ugly. With the crowd he was with, it was half-way there!
