Nobody has enjoyed a late career renaissance like Johnny Cash. The series of collaborations he made with Slayer producer Rick Rubin reignited critical interest in his work at a time when Cash believed he was destined to become a touring nostalgia act. The first of these, American Recordings is a...

Where do you guys find these posters?
Does anybody remember movie star bubble gum trading cards from the 1950's? I bring it up mainly because I remember having, among others, a Deborah Kerr card.
Tennessee – I don't know if this is where they find the posters but you can go to http://www.impawards.com
Inspired by recent movies presented here, I decided to watch Adventures in Babysitting (and Action Jackson is on its way). I thought it was a cute movie (and it falls into the "Why don't they make movies like this anymore?" category). Elizabeth Shue never really did it for me but she's adorable in this film, as is the young daughter and her Thor "worship". I'm sure parents would be up in arms today, what with the two F-words even though they're appropriate in context and used for comedic effect and not in a sexual way.
I've actually made it 80s month on Netflix. I've got Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, D.A.R.Y.L., Summer School, Peggy Sue Got Married, Heavy Metal, and The Lost Boys (yes, I'm the one who still hasn't seen it) coming.

"and The Lost Boys (yes, I'm the one who still hasn't seen it) "
So you're the one!
Because I've seen those already!
Blimp, you magnificent bastard. I had your VHS.
Steve – that is what can euphemistically be referred to as "heady praise" indeed. Since I had never heard of this one, I trotted on over to IMDB and it pretty much has to be the 1945 release about a british soldier who has fought in three wars adressing the question of whether conducting a war with honor is actually possible given it's true nature. Still, I see it was put on DVD a few years back by Criterion which tells me it is probably the best possible telecine and a fine film to boot.
New poll is bad, bad news for Obama, Democrats
"The results of the new Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll are a major warning sign for Barack Obama and Democrats in Congress. On some key issues, the gains that Democrats had made on Republicans in the last couple of years have disappeared, and the GOP has begun to reassert itself. In other policy areas, traditional Democratic leads are diminishing."
http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/opinion/blogs/b...
The democrats will now qualify for stimulous to get re-elected
/I bet I am not far from wrong
Thanks Scott – I was probably thinking as much of the films themselves as the posters, but it should be a neat site to pereuse.
Well, another movie.. that I have not seen…. damn, we in the world do you find these posters!!!
In a good mood, this is the first thing I see on DRUDGEREPORT!!!!!!!!
http://www.gallup.com/poll/113980/Gallup-Daily-Ob...
Wow, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels is a blast, Heavy Metal is definitely one of my favorites and has a great soundtrack. You've got some real winners there….enjoy!
"A Lusty Lifetime of Love and Adventure in Lavish Technicolor!"
Now that's a tagline!
Cold Kentucky Rain
Suspicious Minds
Can't help Falling in Love
Burning Love
and some of his covers
Are my favorite Elvis Presley songs ever
Of course I voted for The Fat Elvis stamp so I'm a little biased towards his later stuff
I recently watched this again, it holds up pretty well. I heard they did a sequel…..
OPEN THREAD MADNESS RANT…
Did anyone see Obama, blame Bush and the republicans again for HIS failing economic POLICIES….. damn, to funny!!!
I'll bet you're closer to being right than wrong….
Just wait till ACORN starts polling
Thats when Obama's numbers will reach the moon
/sarc
Yeah, your right… the community organizer pet group!!!
NAACP ,ACORN,and Al Sharpton all say black people have no responsibility for anything they say or do.
Hussein Obama's failed presidency will not be his fault
Bush and Cheney will be blamed when the next terrorist attack happens.
When all the companies leave the US they will blame BUSH
When Iran makes a nuke and launches it on Israel it will be blamed on BUSH
/spit
Netflix calls it "Life and Death of…" and IMDB shows that it has a couple of alternate titles
and comedians say Obama is giving them no material at all…
Tchristemac – in regards to the posters, check out the link I posted above – http://www.impawards.com
You can search by title, director, year, and artist. Lots of cool stuff there.
saw the sequel. it had it's moments, but nothing beats the feel of the 80's original.
Tchristemac – re: the posters, check out the link I posted above – http://www.impawards.com

Which time? It's his standard opening. 'Good evening ladies and gentlemen, I'd like to start off by saying it's all Bush's fault…"
I couldn't bring myself to watch it. Knowing what happened to both Coreys gave me the vibe that they did this movie for meth money….
Thanks Scott…..pretty cool site!
Hank, I am srsly laughing over here….. standard one liner to open things up!!!
Wolf, no MATERIAL…. gheeeesh!!! LOL
Right, BLAME BUSH ITS NOT OUR FAULT!!!!!!!!!!
it is getting to be a cliche.
Can't the man stand on the stregnth of his own ideas? His followers do it all the time too. I wonder why they would use the man they consider the worst leader in the history of the galaxy as a defense.
The organizing philosophy of the Left
"Asked about his organizing philosophy, Andy Stern summed it up this way: “[W]e prefer to use the power of persuasion, but if that doesn’t work we use the persuasion of power.”

Right???
just proves what complete cowards they are….
An Obama appointed offical ordered the case against the Black Panthers blocking a polling station with weapons, be dropped.
Obama's 20 year relationship with the hate filled rantings of Rev. Wright.
Michelle "the only day I have ever been proud of my country was the election of my husband"
Eric Holder another white hating black man "white people are cowards"
Maybe it will take more then 1 beer with 1 white cop to overcome this.
Hey isn't today the day of the Beer Summit?
I wonder if after quaffing a few, will Gates and Obama gang up on Crowley?
Or will they all decide it was Bush's fault?
Who let the New Black Panther Party thugs off?
"Last week, I reported on the Obama administration’s stonewalling of House efforts to investigate its decision to drop default judgments against New Black Panther Party thugs who menaced Philly voters on election day with nightsticks and racist epithets. Yesterday, I included the episode in my review of White House thuggery over the last six months."
http://michellemalkin.com/2009/07/30/who-let-the-...
Again /nothing to see here move along
"Or will they all decide it was Bush's fault? "
Yes they will
Gates will become the new Racial Equalty Czar
Crowley will his deputy assistant
I'm gonna go with Bush's fault, it seems to be the catch-all for everything Obama's administration screws up….
Need a good laugh ?
Dan Rather wants Obama
to help save the news
"Former CBS News anchor Dan Rather called on President Barack Obama to form a White House commission to help save the press Tuesday night in an impassioned speech at the Aspen Institute. (Snip) Such a commission on media reform, Rather said, ought to make recommendations on saving journalism jobs and creating new business models to keep news organizations alive. "
http://www.lucianne.com/thread/?artnum=484974
Hahahaha
That's the thing. his ideas are shite….
This movie seems to run on TCM about once a year, so I have seen about the last three quarters of it. I heartily second your praise, although I think the initial section (set in Germany under the kaiserreich) is the best part of the film.
The other day 15 people were shot in Chicago within an 8 hour period, almost everday I see on Drudge 6 dead in Chicago 3 dead and 4 shot in Chicago this has been going on for months right in Obam's hometown (the great community organizer) and somehow I neer see this in the MSM. I would bet the homicide rate in Chicago alone higher then Iraq and Afghanistan togeather.
In my town Tampa When a cab driver is killed the black community goes into "No Snitching" Mode.
When one of their innocent kids get killed they march for peace, ending violence, and for more police protection.
Then when the police have to kill some gun totting thug they march against the police and racial profileong.
I'm gettig tired of this little game but apparently Mr Obama stills wants to play it
Oh my freakin God….
Wasn't Dan Rather the one with the forged Bush documents? Shouldn't he be living off his wealth in utter shame and above all…..SILENCE??
Another good one by the always excellent, Tom Sowell:
http://article.nationalreview.com/print/?q=MGI0OW...
Shizer is not the word….. complete shit, is more like it!!!
I can read her articles all day long…. Persuasion of power…. I gather Michell has used that numerous times on Hussein!!!
In his on-going quest to relentlessly shame Birther-sympathizing, race-baiting conservative talking heads, Jon Stewart introduced a hilarious new Daily Show competition segment last night called, "So You Think You Can Douche."
http://gawker.com/5326187/jon-stewart-hosts-an-ep...
Thats how they are gonna save the News
LOL
Black panthers…. what a crock,,,,,,The white house stand up for there opinion's and the thing that bothers me about this… ANY white group would be shut down in a heartbeat and the media would crush anything left of them!!!!
FAIR TRADE DOCTRINE……. news=FAIR…. bwahahahahha, that is laughable!
Yeah Right !
I hear he has fits everytime someone mentions LGF
LOL
I have yet to find a "bad article" by Sowell.
I never understood, "NO SNITCHING MODE" if it was my neighborhood, I would want the criminals in jail… but in the area's that this is prevalent, they almost hold any criminal in high regard.. I guess I am soooo OUT of the loop… that I have no clue… but it is a weird practice…
Hank, you beat me to it… it's BUSH's FAULT!!!!! 4Q Obama….
They already are
All republicans have been shut out of both houses in all commities
And the TEA party attendents are all racist .islamic, homphobes
Well, I guess the Messiah is buzy with a REAL JOB…
http://defamer.gawker.com/5325772/the-year-of-awk...
Your right…I drew a blank for a second…. and WOW… look at that…..there have been a number of republicans groups shut down already!!!
Jon Stewart is a total coward.
while you're at it watch Kathryn Bigelow's masterpiece 'Near Dark'. Don't care much for the vampire stuff (unless it's Christopher Lee) but this is an extremely cool flick…
That is if you haven't already seen it…
Actually it was released in 1943 after a rather bizarre campaign against it by Winston Churchill (who I suspect didn't know what he was talking about, because it has some highly Churchillian moments).
If you like Deborah Kerr, you'll love 'Blimp' because you get 3 of her for your money !
Excellent acting from all the principles, but my favourite bits are actually the transitions between episodes. The sequence in the mill at the end of WW1 invariably chokes me up, although I can;t explain exactly why.
I just added it to the Netflix queue. Thanks for the suggestion!
Actually, LB, Deborah Kerr's film debut was, I believe, 1941's "Major Barbara" starring the bewitching Wendy Hiller. See Deborah in another fine Powell and Pressburger film, "Black Narcissus." You will be enthralled, trust me!
http://news.yahoo.com/s/bloomberg/20090730/pl_blo...
This bill just gets BETTER and BETTER!!!
I wouldn't put it past them *lol*, and while both of them are in it, one of them you don't see till the very very end, during the credits.
Slowly but surely each state will fall by the waste side and STOP SUPPORTING THIS LOON WE CALL OUR PRESIDENT!!!
http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20090730/ts_nm/us_obam...
I guess I am reading tooo much GOOD news stories today…… this DEFINATELY is Bush's fault….

Higher then expected, and it is still rising!
he's one of this year's nominees for Biggest Douche in the Universe (along with Bill Maher and a few others).
Tchristemac, you might like this one as well.
http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/po...
Lowest level for BO.
I think Bill Maher wins that hands-down. He has the ability to utter one sentence and effortlessly reveal his douchebaggery.
Stewart is a lightweight. A flaming coward, but still a lightweight….
but what about all those jobs Obama is saving????
*cough*bullshit*cough*…..
I think if Time and Newsweek would just put Obama on thier cover a little more often they will reallly start making the BIG money.
Exactly….. a administration in the SPIN CYCLE…. they can spin just about anything and this is a NEW MEANING of BS….
Thanks Joe…. I love seeing SLIPPING numbers….. I gather his next 3.5 years is going to a SLOW SLOW process… wow, a lame duck 6 months in!!!!
It is a great film, I've caught it a couple of times on the TCM. The reason for the multiple titles is (from what I've heard) because of censoring they had to release different versions of the film in different parts of the world.
Sure you do, it is called Omerta. Used mostly by the Mafia.
When is somebody actually gonna call them out on this BS in front of a camera?? Why is everyone afraid to confront this administration???
Just wait til something really bad happens with North Korea or Iran, or something here like his Obamacare plan or Cap & Tax….
His popularity will fall faster than Michael Vick's career…..
"Summer School!" Great underrated 80's comedy that makes me wish I lived in California near the beach…then I remember the taxes.
Fortunately, the politicians, specially Democrats, are getting scared of the electorate. We will vote them out.
This is disturbing, I just heard that Gates is expecting an apology from Crowley at the Beer Summit.
I would love to know if anyone has the balls to stand up for OUR COUNTRY… the hell with the party boundaries….. we need for someone to actually take action against this progressive liberal…
Could you supply the link? Or did you hear it on the radio or tv?
Someone mentioned it on the Coulter thread at Townhall so I don't know how true it is. I may have jumped the gun on this one, but it sounds like something that would be true.

Even if Crowley doesn't apologize, Gates will claim he did, and Barack will back him up.
Then Crowley and the FOP need to stand up to them. This is so ridiculous….
I saw this a few years ago at a local art house theater. What a good movie!
Thats pathetic….. APOLOGIZEs should be in order for CROWLEY!!!
Suspicious Minds is my all time Elvis favorite. It was used really well in Black Hawk Down as well.
Great rhythm, outstanding vocals.
Really? No material?
TOTUS or as I refer to them by secret service codename Binky 1 & 2, he next to never goes anywhere without them.
The sting of persons nominated for positions who have a problem paying their taxes. Granted the tax code is nearly 70k pages and should be max 1,000 pages.
The Czars, all 34…35, 36 of them.
1] their growing like rabbits.
2] czars didn't work out so well with russia
3] the power of the executive branch keeps growing and growing [is that a hydra or a new gov't? [not sure, I didn't vote for the later]
TARP crammed down the bank's throats [ok, that was bush/paulson]
Stimulas, with shovel ready projects… yeah, how many of those projects have started?
Breaking of contracts. Certified Bond Holders, the people who get paid first, didn't. Pension programs are heavily investing in secure bonds, you know guys like firefighters, cops, teachers. We're not talking daddy warbucks here.
Unions. SEIU exec meets with Barry once a week. [Halliburton didn't have that kind of access to Dick Chenny]
Israel. Not really supporting them. You might have notice they don't have the nicest neighbors of the world. [I wouldn't have A-jad over for a bar-b-que] Oh, they've canned their order of F-35 jets.
Speaking of Jets… Barry doesn't want more F-22's. It's not like their to replace the aging F-15 which now can't keep up with Air Force 1's new engines. F-22's can. [and yes, I'm still pissed they [Navy] put the Tomcat out of service. Its not like we were hitting targets in afganistan… oh, wait, we were. [wait, that was bush too or is that 2?] Its not like parts for the F-14 have gone missing. Yup, they have. Who else has F-14s? Iran.]
so thats Barry 6, Bush 2
No material?
or just lazy comedians?
Firing of GM's CEO.
Laundering money, near 100 billion around the world, through AIG.
By the way, Barry said he'd remake the country, what is he remaking into? Did anyone ask that during the campaign?
I saw "Colonel Blimp" decades ago, almost by accident when I was up late one night and channel-surfing. I watched it largely because it starred Roger Livesey, an actor whom I had seen in a couple of other old English movies and whom I liked. One post here calls the movie "funny," and I guess it has its humorous side, but what I remember most was how very poignant it was, as (semi-spoiler alert) Blimp ages and watches the world he knew unravel and nurses within his bosom continued heartache from . . . well, you'll see, if you watch the movie. The poster you reproduce, by the way, is a bit misleading. You'd get the impression that the movie is some kind of romantic swashbuckler with a sexy babe but it is not that at all.
Earlier on Fox, they reported that Crowley is bringing his lawyer and another police officer to this prestigious "beer summit". I think family members of Gates and Crowley are also attending. Hopefully, that means there is less chance of an ambush.
I agree Joel. Thomas Sowell is one of our great American thinkers. I enjoy the fact of knowing he was instrumental in getting David Mamet to examine his thoughts and politics. Did you ever read the article published by Mamet in the Village Voice, 'Why I Am No Longer A Brain Dead Liberal'?
WOW !
I just heard 2 Atlanta cops were suspened for doig a background check on Hussein Obama
For crying out loud! This is getting worse and worse!
I read this earlier Hank. The thing I would take notice of is the article was written on July 22. I imagine the spin doctors at the WH are making sure Mr. Gates, if he chooses not to apologize to Sgt. Crowley, sure as hell doesn't attempt to get one from him.
That would blow this whole thing up and make the president not look so good. It's all about the photo-op tonight. All about the image. Gates and the president each in their own ways, messed up. They would both be well served by a public apology to Sgt. Crowley and in the case of the president an apology to the Cambridge PD and to cops all across the country. He'd get a big bump in the polls if he were to do so. I'm not holding my breath. We'll see.
For the record, the sergeant is not looking for any apology from either man.
Just saw "Half Blood Prince". Boring. Look, the sixth book is badly written but it STILL had 2 great plot points – Voldemort's family (especially his tragic mother) and Harry's secret love for Ginny. Yates and Kloves ignored the first and beat the second to death with bad timing and worse script. By ignoring the first (except for a confusing look at Riddle in his orphanage), the audience was robbed of the crucial context for the mysterious "Horcruxes". The second – love story – was botched. In the book, Harry conceals it from Ron and Ginny until the end – building climax with a 'will he? won't he?' tension. In the film, Harry blurts it out in the first reel and Ginny declares her love from the getgo – robbing all the tension. In a word, this film is boring. No wonder it lost 2/3 of its audience in the second week.
Jed, for what it's worth I've bought a vintage poster from Chisholm Larsson in Manhattan. I wasn't cheap but they're knowledgeable and fair. I was really impressed that the BOSS, Mr. Larsson called me himself with a few suggestions and tips…(framing, etc.) I'm an Audrey Hepburn fan and have a spectacular Argentinian half sheet, one of the very few in the entire world from "Funny Face", aka "The Pink Poster".

Thats what they did to Joe the plumber and Palin and it was not a problem
Think Obama will ivite these cops for a beer ?
I just hope Sgt. Crowley doesn't fold. I'm worried that he'll be compelled to make some sort of concilliatory statement.
I can just see Gates and Obama offering a back-handed apology and then staring at Crowley with the expectaion he say something apologetic while the flash of the cameras are going off.
Gates strikes me as very arrogant person that probably feels entitled to an apology even when he's the one that's wrong. We'll see I guess….
It's obvious why the President is doing this, for the same reason the White House was bashing Rush earlier in the week: his poll numbers are down. Bashing Bush and Rush is like a political 'tic.' It means he's loosing his cool.
I remember a four way game of pitch years ago, two on two teams. One guy on the other team would always stack his hand in front of the table, and not touch them till the round started. That's how I could tell when he had a good hand.
Same thing with Obama. When he's nervous, not happy, things not going well, trot out his A list of political enemies. Bush and Rush.
My question: Will Obama serve beer in champagne glasses?
http://moxie.nu/
For those who aren't already familiar with it, you can find tons of stuff on the original memogate story over at Litte Green Footballs.
http://littlegreenfootballs.com/weblog/
Charles Johnson, a noted jazz bass player was one of the bloggers that originally broke the story. He has a particular affinity for Mr. Rather.
From watching the 20 minute raw video of an interview he did with a Boston TV station and a few other short pieces, Jim Crowley, seems a very solid, principled man. A good guy.
I don't see him folding for a moment.
Its a good thing guns are banned in Chicago. Imagine the number of dead criminals if the citizens could protect themselves.
Actually Gates wasn't wrong, but I expect he's expecting an apology. And he probably expects an apology not for being arrested for being a pain in the ass in his own house, but because he's down for the struggle, against da' man, and in this case, the Sgt. is 'da' ma.'
He wants an apology for 400 years of slavery at the hands of whitey.
I know nothing about the man. But the fact that he's standing up for himself like this is encouraging. It's also encouraging that everyone that's worked with him, no matter their race, is also standing up for him.
He wasn't wrong for calling Crowley a racist? I beg to differ, and he does indeed owe Sgt. Crowley an apology for that.
I don't think there's an apology big enough to knock Gates off his high horse. What he wants will never happen.
Do you have a link to this?
Morally Gates was 100% wrong. Morally he most definitely owes the officer an apology. And I'm pretty sure he won't get it. The closest he'll get, and I doubt even this much, Gates will apologize for Crowley not understanding why he was right, and the police are wrong.
From a legal stance, he was probably pretty close to 100% with respect only to the officer not having the authority to arrest him for being a major league dick on his own property.
I know this is not a very popular opinion around here, but its just the way I feel. A man's house is his castle, and if he wants to be a bat-sh*t, crazy, ranting racist in his castle, he can, as long as he's not disturbing any other citizen.
I realize Gates is a professional racist, just like Jackson and Sharpton are on the streets, and Rev. Wright is in the pulpit, Gates is in academia. He wanted to get under the cop's skin and he not only knows how to do it, he probably teaches a class on how to do it, maybe even authored text books on how to do it.
None of that matters. The day we have to fear what police think of our own personal beliefs on our own property, we're in deep doo doo in this country.
I agree with your whole post. Everyone has the right to be a complete tool in their castle.
I will look
I heard it on the radio
Cops suspended for Obama check
DeKalb equipment was used for query
Two DeKalb County Officers are being investigated for allegedly performing a background check on President Barack Obama.
Officers Ryan White and C.M. Route have been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation, according to DeKalb County spokeswoman Sheila Edwards.
Edwards said the two patrol officers have been with the department for about two years.
The incident occurred on July 20, according to DeKalb County officials.
The United States Secret Service notified county officials that DeKalb County computer equipment was utilized to do a query on the President.
Edwards said the background check was run using a computer mounted in a patrol car

Now the SS is going to look me up
LOL
Assuming that this is actually "The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp" then I recommend it highly. It is a magnificent film and one of my all time top 5. Give this move a shot even if you've never heard of it. The quality of the performances and filmmaking are truly startling considering that I hadn't known of this film until last year.
Ed, yes, Christopher Hitchens makes a similar point in this article:
http://www.slate.com/toolbar.aspx?action=print&am...
However, to be clear, when he was arrested, Mr. Gates was *not* inside his home. He was outside, having followed the officer, continuing his provocative tirade. Once outside, he was now creating a public disturbance. He was warned to calm down, he chose *not to* and was subsequently arrested for disorderly conduct.
After reading the police report, watching the video of Sgt. Crowley's TV interview, which I will once again link, along with the corroboration of Crowley's fellow officers at the scene, I find the sergeant highly credible in performing his job. The professor brought this on himself. He and only he, is responsible for his arrest.

I guess I just find it odd that, given equal content, some movies seem to offend more than others.
I've actually made it 80s month on Netflix. I've got Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, D.A.R.Y.L., Summer School, Peggy Sue Got Married, Heavy Metal, and The Lost Boys (yes, I'm the one who still hasn't seen it) coming, among others.
Today must be Steve_TM day. Not only a mention of Colonel Blimp but now you add Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. Why not just add the Godfather, The Empire Strikes Back and the Third Man to round out my favorite movies?
Welcome to Loon Land.
U.S. Military to enforce flu shots ?? Wha ??? NO WAY !
We're with you, Crowley!
I can't say this is a fact, but what I heard originally was the officer ordered Gates out of the house, and that's what sent the nut case into over load. How dare an officer order him outside?
But when the officer responded to the call, he was alone. Standard operating procedure would be to ask Gates outside in order to verify his identity. Had Gates been a thief, and since there were reportedly two of them, the other one could be waiting behind the door to ambush him. Hence, the possible suspect should be investigated outside the premises for the officer's own safety.
A good friend of mine has a wonderful story concerning the local police. One sunny weekend afternoon he was sitting on his front porch downing a few brewskis, noting big. A police car pulled up to the curb and waved him over. He got up, beer in hand and walked over to the police car. He asked the officer what the matter was, the officer replied "there's an open container law in this village." My friend replied he was on his front porch drinking a beer. The cop replied "you're in the street now."
My friend laughed at him and went back to his seat. The cop, apparently not knowing what to do next, drove off.
The police have their methods.
I completely understand and agree, this entire sordid event was Gates fault. All he had to do was be reasonable. He was looking for a fight, so he got one, but that doesn't matter.
Amendment IV
The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.
Once the police officer determined Gates was the property owner, the officer no longer had any "probable cause" and should have left, no matter what Gates screamed. He didn't.
I'm sorry, but when it comes to my constitutional rights, I'm a stickler for details. They are under attack enough from government as it is. And President Obama and company don't need any help from us to take away even more rights.
Tossing in a "BLIMP" cast plug for the fabulous and underappreicated (these days) for ANTON WALBROOK…who also gives a stunning performance in THE RED SHOES with Moira Shearer…and which is not a kids fim which some people seem to think and they show it to their little daughters who are then traumatized for life
my new philosophy is " Screw you guys, I've got Net Flix"
Obama is becoming the boss that everyone hates with Gates as his kiss-ass flunky-donkey office manager who everyone hates even more because he is such a weasel.
When a good employee gets the goods on them, everyone begins rooting for the 'little guy' not to cave in to the crappers in suits.
Thank you for the laugh!!!! fantastic! I hope you don't mind if I spread this about…
From what I understand, the police technically aren't supposed to look people up on those things unless they're being investigated or under suspicion of something. Cops probably have been doing s__t like that for a long time — either out of paranoia or just for laughs — and these guys only got caught once they tried doing it to a high-ranking government official.
I'm equally irritated by the misuse of law-enforcement equipment for entertainment purposes and by the federal government's inability to keep quiet on this matter. Cops shouldn't push civilians around, and the government shouldn't be pushing the cops around either.
Carroll woman's answer to highly visible Obama: Selling her televisions
"A 78-year-old Carroll woman says she's so tired of seeing President Barack Obama on the airwaves that she's selling her television sets – two of them.
Deloris Nissen, a retired nurses' aide and former Kmart employee who was raised on a farm near Audubon, placed a classified advertisement with The Daily Times Herald for Friday's paper.
In the $5.50 ad, Nissen tells readers she has two television sets for sale.
The reason: "Obama on every channel and station."

Ed,
Not sure where you heard it from, however according to the sergeant's own words and account, he asked Mr. Gates, not ordered him, to step outside to talk.
The professor refused and immediately began to exhibit behavior in his initial response which set the tone for the event. The sergeant was courteous and professional.
You seem to be a reasonable man, if you have some time please take a look at the link of the TV interview with Sgt. Crowley I provided. The man is very credible and has great support from his fellow officers. If he were some rouge cop who had a past history of inappropriate behavior, we would have heard it by now.
Quite frankly, I wish we had more cops in this country like Jim Crowley.
That sinks with an article I read where it says the GOP is going to go hard for 80 House seats in 2010. They must be feeling pretty good if they are going to chase 80 races.
I did stop my channel surfing long enough to watch O'Reilly blast his latest town hall as the most boring and incoherent attempt to sell his Health Crap bill ever. All O'Reilly could do was talk about how bored the audience looked and complain that they couldn't lift a single useful sound bite from the whole mess.
A lot of it is gang related. In many of those neighborhoods, you're either in a gang, connected to a gang, or afraid of a gang. A lot of gangs also emply PR of a sort. They like to put themselves up as neighborhood protectors even as they prey on the same neighborhoods they mark as their territory. So, yes, it is like Omerta, or it's done out of fear of reprisal in a lot of cases. There is also that inherent mistrust of the police as agents of "The Man" that also plays a role.
See, Thomas Sowell should be our Sec. of the Treasury. I'll bet he'd do a much better job than Timmy "I Can;t Figure Out TurboTax" Geithner.
JIm,
He may not have used the word "order," but the police officer had a perfectly valid reason to move the situation outside – he didn't want to take a chance on a trap. I commend his intelligence. An ambush hadn't even occurred to me till I heard some one on the radio mention it. That's why it stuck in my head. It's a good idea. I try to remember those.
I've seen parts of interviews with Sgt. Crowley, and I completely agree with you, he seems like an extremely competent officer, and perfect gentleman. I don't for a second race had one single thing to do with any of his actions.
And I agree with you, Gates may seem decent in other settings, but on this occasion, he was a racist looking for a fight. No doubt. I think he was more ticked off because the officer didn't recognize his obvious celebrity status. His M.O. is victim status, so he went right for it.
My problem is with a police officer on private property. I'm really big on property rights. I've had a couple of run-ins with Police on my property and on other people's property. The rules dramatically change when you invite them on your property. They're not allowed on your property with out probable cause, which extremely limits what they can legally force you to do.
Up until the moment Gates provided identification, the officer had reasonable suspicion to be on his property – the neighbor's call. Once identity was verified, he no longer had reasonable suspicion, he was an uninvited police officer on private property. Time to go, no matter what kind of racist drivel was pouring out of Gates.
That's the mistake the apparently very honorable Sgt. Crowley made.
And I'm also pretty sure my reason for agreeing with Gates would sail far over his head. Because to people like him, everything is about race.
I still love how we've all been brainwashed by the evil rightwing conservative talkers. When will these people get a clue that you have to search for the opinions that dissent from the John Stewart/CNN/MSNBC/The View/Oprah led charge to make us all lean left?
Summer School is highly quotable. It's one of those movies that, even if you own it on DVD, you'll put down the remote if you find it on cable. It never really gets old. Courtney looked great in it, too–but, not as great as the beach scene in Revenge of the Nerds II.

"The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp" is great amusement and highly entertaining! The film offers a great look into the pre-war (both of them) cultural attitudes in Europe.
Bonus: a very hot Deborah Kerr's film debut?
Bring popcorn. Two thumbs up!
Don't forget Olbermann. He wants in on this action. Him and Chris Matthews' tingly legs.
Sounds to me like Crowley is going under duress. He probably said no way and his superiors said, "Oh, you're going alright."
O'reilly hates anything to do with his healthcare bill… it is funny to hear his tone of his voice change when he is speaking about the health care bill
its like Obama is the boss and the media is the employee. They dont wanna get the boss mad…sure they say they cant do some OT here and there but otherwise they are just petrified of being given the dirty job. They are cowards. This whole Gates thing proves that.
watching local FOX news..new device that prevents you from leaving vehicle and forgetting your child is in the back seat… Who on Earth could forget ???
I wish there were more like Crowley who DIDN'T support Obama.
This flu vaccine thing both my husband and I worried. He works in the industry in QC, and he's more than a little disturbed that they've trotted a vaccine out so quickly and that the government has given the manufactureres of the vaccine legal immunity from any lawsuits. They haven't done any safety studies on it at all. Anyone who comes to our house to enforce vaccination will see our private firearm escorting off premises. We'll trust to voluntary quarantine over untested vaccines with no proven safety record.
New toon on the "BEER SUMMIT"…let me know what you think.

To the tune of "If You're Happy and You Know it:"
If your poll has started falling, blame Bush
If your poll has started falling, blame Bush
If your rating's going south and your foot's caught in your mouth
If your poll has started falling, blame Bush
So Mr Rather wants to save journalism jobs? Why would he want to save jobs in an industry he knows nothing about? As far as keeping news organizations alive, I'm sure he can give great advice on what not to do.
I believe so. I remember reading something like that.
Speaking of them Brits:
Country Ploughman's Pickle (relish)
Just bought this stuff for the first time and it is tasty.
I got one sold by Fresh & Easy which has a few hundred stores in the USA, but is owned by a huge UK company, TESCO.
It says to try it with cheese and I thought they were crazy, but I had some Stilton here and dabbed some on it and it was so fine! Yum.
The UK folks call relish, "Pickle". Maybe that is where the expression – "We're in a pickle" comes from b/c it doesn't make any sense to be in an American pickle – like just a big pickle. This "pickle", as they call it, is made of chopped up lil veggies in a very tangy brown sauce with malt and sugar and good stuff. Kind of like relish in a sauce. Mouthwatering!
"Country Ploughman's pickle is a tangy, sweet and crunchy pickle relish great with cheese and crusty bread. Product of England.
Ingredients:
Vegetables in Variable Proportions (Cauliflower, Carrot, Onion, Rutabaga), Sugar, Apple Pulp, Malt Vinegar, Water, Date Paste, Molasses, Modified Corn Starch, Tomato Paste, Natural Flavors, Salt, Wheat Flour, Dextrose, Lemon Juice, Spice."
The Ploughman's Lunch is a basic type thing in the UK…some of these internet pics look goooood. Especially that one in color from some guy in Japan. (He says cheese is very expensive in Japan. Why?) He broils it on a piece of bread and the cheese gets all melty. Mmmmmmmmm….
So if you like tangy relishes and sauces and "pickles", try this stuff. Addicting!

Sadly, Super Cat, it does happen. You would think not but alas it does. Only last year, a father in a stressful job forgot that his only child was in the back seat. The child had fallen asleep, the father was distracted (his job was in severe meltdown and he was frantic to get his workload down) – one thing and another, the father parked the car and ran into his job. A few hours later, the worried wife called because the day care center wanted to know if the child was sick. The father dashed out – but it was too late. The police had to put the wretched man under suicide watch. Yes, it happens. Which means I'd pop for that device in a heartbeat if I had a kid.
Yeah, I saw it. Good heist film. Over @ IMDB. I didn't know it was directed by Sidney Lumet.
Man some good actors there besides Connery and Walken. Martin Balsam, Ralph Meeker, Val Avery, Dick Anthony Williams. Solid cast.
Anyone ever see a movie called "The Anderson Tapes" ? A great movie set in NY with Christopher Walken in his first or second role, not sure. Great movie..not on DVD that I know of..Sean Connery as the lead….a must see. Character actors dream come true. Nothing like a NY heist. edited..on DVD now I believe.
Part of police procedure is to get the guy out from the house because Gates may have been under duress.
Gates was warned he was being disruptive. He was arrested because he wouldn't stop. He was arrested partly for his own safety as well as the community's.
Incidentally, Tesco conjures the same type of frothing fits from the British left that Walmart does from US ones.
Thought that might make your pickle even more enjoyable.
it happens alot with school buses I notice.
I ordered the DVD..had it on tape…Garett Morris also in it, plays a cop. Trivia Q for you: Who was Balsams famous son in law in real life? His daughter married then divorced him….. No googling unless stumped!
One of Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger´s string of truly magical movies. Here is the famous quote from "Colonel Blimp" about having to learn to fight evil:
Theo Kretschmar-Schuldorff: I read your broadcast up to the point where you describe the collapse of France. You commented on Nazi methods – foul fighting, bombing refugees, machine-gunning hospitals, lifeboats, lightships, bailed-out pilots and so on – by saying that you despised them, that you would be ashamed to fight on their side and that you would sooner accept defeat than victory if it could only be won by those methods.
Clive Candy: So I would!
Theo: Clive! If you let yourself be defeated by them, just because you are too fair to hit back the same way they hit at you, there won't be any methods *but* Nazi methods! If you preach the Rules of the Game while they use every foul and filthy trick against you, they will laugh at you! They'll think you're weak, decadent! I thought so myself in 1919!

(continued)
Clive: I heard all that in the last war! They fought foul then – and who won it?
Theo: I don't think you won it. We lost it, but you lost something, too. You forgot to learn the moral. Because victory was yours, you failed to learn your lesson twenty years ago and now you have to pay the school fees again. Some of you will learn quicker than the others, some of you will never learn it – because you've been educated to be a gentleman and a sportsman, in peace and in war. But Clive! Dear old Clive – this is not a gentleman's war. This time you're fighting for your very existence against the most devilish idea ever created by a human brain – Nazism. And if you lose, there won't be a return match next year… perhaps not even for a hundred years.
You mustn't mind me, an old alien, saying all this. But who can describe hydrophobia better than one who has been bitten – and is now immune?
