And does the self-proclaimed defender of the working and middle classes actually know anything about them and how they live? My questions were prompted after a "letter from Michael Moore" popped into my inbox. It was promoting the DVD launch of his documentary Capitalism - A Love Story. Mr. Moore...

Gates says we should move on about the arrest.
http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=D99LLQF00...
Seems there is going to be a beer summit. Well, as in all good things must come to an end, I guess this one is finished.
But before we leave, we should enumerate what we have learned. I'll start.
President Obama likes racists. Wright, Sotomayor, and Gates.
What else?
If anyone disbelieves the "Socialists" want eugenics and euthansia, then they cannot read.

LOL, I'd want to change the subject like Gates too… if I made such a comprehensive ass of myself.
And NICE work Barack… with one comment you managed to alienate 75% of America. And that presser and call to Officer Crowley sure came out of nowhere… did Axelrod rip you a new one? Looks like your knee-jerk rabble-rousing kind of backfired.
And anyone who has spent any amount of time in the "higher" education system knows the Professor Gates type: bitter, spiteful, bigoted racist with a position of power who felt emboldened to make a political statement.
This is the type of Professor who would change the subject on you when you attempt to engage in a debate- or would give you a poor grade because you actually have an opinion, and done research outside of marxist texts and such. You are fooling no one, Mr Gates.
And Mr President, is this "nuance" you've spoke of? "the police acted stupidly"? -please
Obama is out to rip this country to shreds in EVERY way- who can question that such ill-advised statements are divisive… and NOT helpful? He has no idea what happened, he admitted it- and apparently doesn't care, either… he's picked his side.
But back in reality, the childish and paranoid Gates completely baited the cop, who acted with admirable restraint, IMO… all he had to do is show his ID and shut up, he was treated with respect. This guy was clearly looking for a fight… and he ought to thank God he didn't find one.
Obama is going to destroy race relations in this country with his vengeful "get even" mentality… some messiah. Americans should have chosen a fair and sensible human being instead of this embittered nutcase.

Loved this film! Finally got it on DVD a last year. Definitely a forgotten classic.
With Gate and Sgt, Crowly meeting at the white house, I am uneasy about this. I feeg the Sgt. will get a come to Jesus meeting and be forced to apolgize. He'll be in the Oval Office and in there will be Gates, Obama, Alxelrod and Emanuel to pressure him. I hope he will stick to his guns and not.
ReaganiteGOPer has it right. What I am wondering is what kind of a parent he must be to make such uninformed snap judgements, or in ReaganiteGOPer's term, "knee-jerk rabble-rousing". Perfect.
Shouldn't we mention the poster artist?
It's John Alvin.
So, is Gates dropping the demand that Sgt. Crowley apologize?
Officer Crowley should not go to the WH to drink "a beer" with those two posers. Show them no mercy. Shun them. Don't gave in to those low-lifes.
He may be under a lot of pressure by bosses and people of influence to go. Sad, but true.
Release the audio tapes and let's see what went down.
Flat out – I think GATES is a LIAR. Obama is a clown and a friend of malcontents who won't admit how good they have it.
I always enjoy a good Sherlock Holmes adaptation just to see how the new story tellers will handle things. I can't recall this film clearly, though. I like GW, but many of his roles seem very much the same.
Sherlock Holmes movies… and Gene Wilder what a show!!!! this was a funny movie….
Good morning people, back to the grind of OPEN THREAD MADNESS!!!
Check this tid bit out!!!
By hiding the hate bill as an amendment to Pentagon spending, moderate Democrats (and all but two Republicans) are faced with a difficult choice: either pass the Pedophile Protection Act or STOP PAYING OUR TROOPS serving overseas. Faced with a "poison pill" many moderates may falsely claim they have no choice but to swallow. Unfortunately all Senate Democrats voted 63-28 with five RINO Republicans (Sens. Voinovich-OH, Lugar-IN, Murkowski-AK, Snowe-ME, Collins-ME), to invoke cloture and end debate on the pro-homosexual bill. But the Senate and House verison don't agree, so Conferees will meet to further amend this bill.
On another note:
PELOSI SAYING NO TO OBAMA??? For the 2nd stimulus!
After rewatching Season 7 of "24" this past week, I proclaim it the worst season ever of the series.
Bad from the start when they rammed the car with the Star Trek dude and his daughter. To put the girl in jeopardy w/o the use of suspense = mistake. Ugly mistake and it set the path for the whole season or errors.
They made horridilly bad decisions on the story and the use and misuse of characters.
Killing off Bill Buchanan was a crime. They went right to the 'kill a character' line when they killed Edgar Stiles and Michelle Dessler. KIlling BB went over the line
Making Tony Almeida evil was a crime and absurd in the context of the story. All this death and destruction to avange Michelle's death? Ridiculous!
Under using Chloe O'Brian – what a waste, even though MLR gave a poor performance this year. Her husband – needed more of him as he was one of the few characters with any color.
Janis Gold – irksome, but she gave one of the few decent performances in character of anyone this year. You may hate Garafolo in real life, but she added a lot to the show – but dont bring her back, please.
Larry Moss – what an idiot.
Renee Walker – only got interesting after she was suspended.
Airport scene with Kim Bauer – a joke. Silly shoot out.
Abandoning the CTU LA set was a huge mistake, especially for the drab FBI HQ in Washington, D.C.
Much of the season is just talk talk talk. Nearly every scene with President Taylor and her bizarre, yet dull family, was a bore.
The Sengala arc – so boring with it's comic book villian and entourage of thugs and girlfriend. Invading the WH by coming up thru the toilet with scuba divers – ludicrious.
Jon Voight – talk talk talk about his philosophies. Boom. Kill him, bring on actor Will Patton in whatever his ultra bore character's name was.
The 'good Muslim' arc – what a sop, though I had no problem with Jack calling in the one holy man he knew.
Why even have a plot line where he may die b/c we know how that is going to turn out.
Even watching it and skipping through all the chat still only made it bearable at best.
Wouldn't it be funny if they were seated together on the same plane to DC?
If I was Sgt. Crowley, I'd politely decline the invitation. This is being turned into a Obama / Gates photo-op. Gates and Obama tried to use the incident in one fashion, which blew up in their faces. Now they're trying some Jiu-Jitsu on the public outrage to look just as reasonable as Sgt. Crowley.
Please don't left them climb up your back, Sgt. Crowley.
Joe, beer summit? good call, they will get liquored UP and paint the town RED….
The Cop is between a hard place and Obama. If he doesn't show, he's 'small minded and likely a racist after all'. When he Does show up, he is diminished as Obama becomes The One again, bringing together an oppressed Black professor and an insensitive white cop. This an an Obama 'teachable' moment, teaching all us ignoramuses the one true path to Correct racial awareness.
Why do I hear the Odd Couple theme playing in my head all of a sudden?
I think Gates knows or has heard the police radio call recordings and/or the 911 tapes. I am sure they will back Officer Crowley's version of the situation.
Appease the race industry, placate the offended but uninformed, and move on to the next battle in the war on America and our rights and values. Well played, Obama? We'll see.
Somebody give the man a new deck, the race card is getting a little worn and tattered and his ideal of a permanent black underclass with over represented political power defies logic. And compassion.
Conservative definition of the word "racism":
1. Nothing that has anything to do with white conservatives.
2. Something that only black people and liberals are.
3. For any other possible suggestions on what that word might mean… NOPE! JUST SEE #1 and #2.
From the article linked below:
Gates said he hoped his arrest by Crowley leads to greater sensitivity on racial profiling and that it was time to “move on.”
http://newsone.blackplanet.com/obama/obama-will-m...
If this is the mindset of Mr. Gates going into the peacemaking-beer fest, then Sgt. Crowley should do himself a big favor and stay home. This event brought on by an elitist black man with a huge chip on his shoulder and blown to the forefront by our narcissistic president, was never about 'racial profiling'. That is BS. As for the 'greater sensitivity' part of his statement, FTS. How's that for sensitivity, professor?
Sgt. Crowley seems credible, professional and a good man, in every sense of the word. He did nothing wrong. Anything short of a public apology by Mr. Gates first, and President Obama second, to him is classless. The WH can try to spin this any which way they choose, without a public apology, the meeting means nothing.
Americans, the Big Bamboozle, is about to begin. Spike Lee, you watching this, bro?
Jimmy, I agree.
Beer Summit . (I didn't coin the phrase, I heard it somewhere. )
Liberals aren't necessarily racist. Liberalism, however, is.
Jimmy, I agree with you about Crowley staying home…… I would upstage the president and have a press conference and tell him that I wante d to be more fiscally responsible to my family and stay home and work!!!
Another little tidbit….. from BIG HOLLYWOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!
http://www.wilshireandwashington.com/2009/07/obam...
From Variety!
I am surprised that the Citizens are so shocked at this man obama [ until I see a real birth certificate I will refrain from calling him President ] and his SNAFU. Wrong on Russia, wrong on China, wrong on the UN,wrong on health care, wrong on the bail outs, wrong on the economy, wrong on transparency, wrong on unemployment, wrong on the American peoples will and their ability to stand up and fight for Freedom. This man and the racists, arrogant, angry coalition of misfits he surrounds himself with are wrong on almost everything they say and do. Get used to it,expect it because you can't fix stupid. As for arrogance and angry the American People have a fix for this it's called the VOTE. With anything never underestimate your opponent it could be your single greatest mistake you make. Make no mistake about it this administration is after one thing and one thing only Power complete and unquestioned power. The power to say ,demand, dictate any and all things they deem good for the citizenry. To this I say bite me I will never have chains put on me or my family I will fight with all that GOD has given me to reverse this insanity. While I'm at it dose anyone out there no of anyone who did not receive health care when they needed it. In a Nation of 300 million legal citizens +or – 20 million illegal immigrants we still have the beat health care the world has ever known. One sure way to screw something up is to fix it when its not broken. This is not to say there is no room for improvment there is. Think of what could be done with the billions of dollars that are spent on the illegals immigrants for health care. Im Not a raciest I don't care what color you are or where you came from the only thing that I care about is that you came here legally and are contributing your fair share no free rides from me. Life Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness. Not sneak in, lay low and take all you can. This has to stop now. Vote out all who don,t support protecting our boarders now. http://www.kickthemalloutnow.com
What also gets me about Obama is his millionaire lifestyle.
As president or private citizen? Because, technically, every president get a millionaire lifestyle what with the planes, chefs. vacation homes, etc. It's always pissed me off a little bit no matter who's in the White House, but certain appearances have to kept up for national prestige.
I just saw the Japanese film "Departures," about an "encoffiner," the person in Japan who prepares bodies for burial, in front of family members. (Not a well-regarded profession due to cultural taboos there) Not weird or gruesome, incredibly well acted, touching, and beautiful film. I saw it in a 4th run house here in L.A.; it's probably Netflixable by now. Highly recommended.
Not that I give a fig about 24, but give people some spoiler notice! You gave everything away!
The reason why I asked your age is that I have spent on this earth well over four decades. Time enough to have seen the many changes on race relations. So your comments, while you think that they are clever and smart, are actually racist in nature. Which makes you racist or stupid or just a plain bomb-thrower troll.
Possibly all three.
I have never seen the like of Presidential Spouse's being run all over the place. I have seen Presidents being treated well for national prestige. I have no complaint about that.
thanks, sounds interesting.
Speaking of the once and future great Sherlock Holmes, here is a trailer from a Sherlock movie scheduled for Christmas release and starring one of my favorite actors, Robert Downey, Jr.
http://www.fancast.com/movies/Sherlock-Holmes/150532/112...
I know what you mean…as first ladies go I recall Laura Bush doing a lot as well, she just didn't garner the same amount of coverage, although I think the press treated her respectfully. There must be news bureaus dedicated soley to Michelle Obama's wardrobe & hairstyles. Hilary Clinton of course could not be bothered with such prosaic things as reading to schoolchildren.
Keep some kleenex handy! ;-D
Jimmy – the spin on this whole thing has been atrocious. Gates and Obama don't think they did one thing wrong and look at this as a chance to teach Sgt. Crowley some sensitivity. I think I would urge him to stay home using the excuse "I just want to put this behind me.
All I have seen on Michelle is that she loves Paris and London.
I can hardly wait to see this movie. I love the trailer.
I aspire to be inflammatory. If I'm clever or smart, then that is a side-effect. Simply part of what I must include in order succeed at making a good bomb to throw.
I'm 35. I am sure that in your years you have seen progress. Why is my statement racist?
"Liberalism is racist". How so?
"Liberalism is racist". Interesting. How so?
In all fairness, Paris and London are really, really lovable. My favorite is the garden–while I like the concept, I don't for a moment imagine Michelle is out there every day weeding & watering.
I aspire to be inflammatory. If I'm clever or smart, then that is a side-effect. Simply part of what I must include in order succeed at making a good bomb to throw. A separate question you may wonder is: why throw the bombs? That's deeper. I don't know if I have a reason for why I'm a bomb thrower… but I am a bomb thrower, a troll, a pain in your asses, etc.
I'm 35. I am sure that in your years you have seen progress in race relations. Curious then, elder of mine, what do you think are the drivers of that progress? What do you think are the hinderances to such progress?
And why is my statement racist?
I didn't _love_ the trailer, which unfortunately reminded me that it's a Guy Ritchie movie. I will see it eagerly nonetheless because I'm a huge Holmes geek, but I'm a little wary, inclusion of 'baritsu' aside.
I don't believe Michelle is the gardening type either.
Is it time yet for Professor "Yo Mama" Gates to attend racial sensitivity training yet?
Joe – I can't ever remember Downey, Jr. mailing it in. Iron Man is clearly the most adult comic movie yet, but I do love my Holmes. I'm sure you have the Granada Television series starring Jeremy Brett which rather faithfully recreates the original stories . . . but back to Downey, Jr. Did you ever see "Restoration?" It is a rather charming movie about medical enlightenment during the restoration of the British monarchy in the 17th century. Plus it has a fantastic soundtrack by James Newton Howard which skillfully blends period pieces with his own compositions in the same style.
If anyone is in Los Angeles this week, the new Madam Toussaud's Wax Museum on Hollywood Blvd. next to the Chinese Theater is doing a 'soft opening" until August 1st. Tickets are $10 bucks off normal admission, and the Hollywood theme is kinda fun. I am sucker for Toussaud's (do NOT confuse it with the crappy Hollywood Wax Museum down the street!!) and some of the figures are downright eerie. There's the usual main room with current stars-Brad & Angeleina, Johnny Depp, Britney Spears, etc., but the 'classic' Hollywood area is a hoot–among others Bette Davis in "All About Eve," Charlton Heston in full Moses gear, The Duke, and what might be my favorite–The Godfather at the desk from the opening of the first film, with a chair that one can sit in for photo-ops. (Many exhibits offer hats and other props you can don, so if you've always wanted to wear a fur vest and wig and stand next to Raquel Welch in 10,000 Years B.C….your moment has come! The 'movie making' area has places to inert yourself via greenscreen, plus all the current guys–Jackie Chan, Wolverine, Daniel Craig, etc. Not sure I'd pay full price, but there is something so goofily old fashioned about a wax museum. I had fun.
You are old enough to have seen some history. How about looking some up? Check out who were the proponents of Civil Rights for Blacks.
I wouldn't exactly say it is progress. The current drivers of race relations prefer blacks and latinos be kept down. Down on the plantation so to speak. In welfare and ignorant.
As to being a bomb-thrower, you are at best an inept one.
Conservatism recognizes that there is racism and does it's best to remove it. Liberalism recognizes that there is racism and does it's best to keep it alive.
Racists is when ever you group according to race and then claim something about that group. Conservatism is all about the INDIVIDUAL. Liberalism is all about groups.
I think he was the Greatest Holmes Ever. And the art direction and details of those Granada adaptations are superb, and don't date at all. While I love Rathbone/Bruce (despite making Watson a dolt which Doyle didn't) Brett and Edward Hardwicke had a camaraderie and ease with each other that mirrored the stories. I can still watch "Silver Blaze" with a grin on my face–it's my favorite story and I can practically recite it with the actors by now–and I think it's as good an hour of tv as anything.
Need a good laugh ?
http://hotair.com/archives/2009/07/26/video-obama...
Very funny !
Hahahaha
I have never seen "Restoration". Sounds like a good movie to view. I like what ever Downey has done. His private life is sad. His movie and television career is brilliant. I also have read most, if not all, the Sherlock Holmes books.
Yep, that about sums it up. I thought season 6 was a disaster, but season 7 really surpassed it in sheer awfulness. What a shame.
BTW we are in the same State. I live in Eastern Tennessee. I am a California transplant.
Yes, and even more, conservatism is how we're more alike, liberalism is about how we're different. Which view draws people together?
Terrific!!! I love it! Morton sings it very well.
)
Cool
I forgot about most of them
Modern Liberalism adheres to affirmative action as part of its philosophy. Inherent to the "affirmative action" doctrine is the insulting assumption that minorities, unlike whites, are incapable of great achievement without government assistance; it further clouds the issue by confusing equality of opportunity (which its followers claim to want) with equality of outcome (which is what they actually want to see).
"Black Outrage" is out of fashion, either put up the proof or STFU. Next!
Joe. Gardening type are you srs? that is tooo funny!
I swear I'm not a purist. But, I'm sorry, Sherlock Holmes is not supposed to be some sort of ribald Victorian version of Indiana Jones. I was looking forward to this movie until I saw the trailer.
I don't think that will happen Jed. I believe Sgt. Crowley will attend because it was his suggestion in the first place. The larger question is what will the tone and tenor be at the event? The WH spin team will control all aspects for maximum media coverage.
I pray, Sgt. Crowley sticks to his principals and does not give in to some form of PC BS type of apology to the professor.
We hear from the left constantly about the need to 'move on'. Fine, let the parties involved do just that however, as I mentioned, any situation which does not include public apologies from both Professor Gates and President Obama to Sgt. Crowley is nothing more than a sham.
This can truly be a 'teachable moment' if the professor and the president choose to accept responsibility for their mistakes and subsequent actions. I, for one, will be watching and listening very closely.
Has anyone been to Mark Levin's website? I swear Senator Graham looks like Perez Hilton!!!!
http://www.marklevinshow.com/Article.asp?id=14279...
http://www.mahalo.com/perez-hilton
Hit the video and then go back to Levin's site.
Exactly. I have to assume they're selling it to people who've never read any Holmes, especially that annoying "youth" market, which is a shame.
"This can truly be a 'teachable moment' if the professor and the president choose to accept responsibility for their mistakes and subsequent actions."
Don't hold your breath waiting on that
This cop is going to regret this meeting
You aspire to be inflammatory, my how noble.
Grow up.
Hahaha
You know what they say
There is no such thing as coincidence
I can answer your rhetorical question ("why throw the bombs?"). You're a contrarian. You enjoy taking the opposite view because it makes you feel superior to the people you're talking down to. You're neither clever nor smart, so I wouldn't worry too much about those "side effects".
Generally, from my experience, people like you were told how smart they were by their mothers while they were growing up, but don't have any real adult acheivement by which they can validate that inflated opinion about their own self worth.
What do you do for a living?
I'm not a psychologist, but I do play one on the internet…
very nice – thanks Scott, and a hearty high-oh thumbs up to you!
very cool, good on yah as the Aussie's might say.
Oh, and by the way, "CgntvDssnt", I don't believe you're 35.
You may be in fact, but you don't write with a mature voice. You write like a self-absorbed high school kid.
It's interesting Gordon – I saw this clip and linked it up just on the strength of Holes and Downey, Jr. I do like to see and compare different interpretations (admittedly Gene Wilder was spoofing the whole notion), but after actually viewing the trailer, I share your concerns. Like maatkare, I am an unabashed Holmes follower and enjoy Downey, Jr. so I'll probably try and think of him as some other Victorian Indiana Jones rather than the greatest detective the world has ever known.
Your english is flawed at best.
Furthermore, your train of thought resembles a train wreck.
Of course you fit the liberal stereotype: Idiotic, with no sense of thought hierarchy.

You can't make this $h!t up
Hahaha
There's been one other attempt at turning Sherlock Holmes into an action hero–Young Sherlock Holmes. I don't think I've seen it since it came out, but if I recall correctly it had a young, brash Holmes while planting seeds to indicate that he would grow into the older Holmes we all know and love. Not a great movie, but better than throwing the whole canon out the window.
At the time, I had really liked David Burke as Watson, and was disappointed when he was replaced. I must admit and agree that Hardwicke was every bit as good and went on to "own" the role himself. My favorite Holmes is the somewhat obscure "Valley of Fear." Like "A Study in Scarlett." much of this more lengthy story involved someone other than Holmes himself. Unfortunately, Granada never filmed it to my knowledge, probably for just that reason. I liked it because the character who was the lead was very Holmes like in the way he handled the situation. It kind of reminded me of some kind of Molly Maguires thing.
There was a movie from the earliest days of film that I swear I have on a VHS tape somewhere, but I can't seem to find it.
"You don't talk about Diogenes Club. If this is your first night at Diogenes Club, you have to Diogenese.'
"You don't talk about Diogenes Club. If this is your first night at Diogenes Club, you have to Diogenese."
I had pretty much the same experience with "Young Sherlock." Only saw it once during the original theatrical release. Thought it was o.k., but certainly not particularly memorable.
Season 6 is a masterpiece compared to season 7.
I watched Season 6 again recently and its biggest weakness is that it doesn't compare as well with seasons 4 and 5 – which I feel are the best seasons. Season 6 stands better on its own vs being comparfed to seasons 4 and 5. And 6 has some good stuff in it.
But, season 7 – ay yi yi! "What were they thinking?

Okay! You caught us! We are all biggots…………Now please explain why on two occasions I have been called a racist by "Known Liberals" just because i didn't vote for Barry? When I try to explain I that I didn't vote for him because I don't like his views and I don't think he is smart enough to be President I was told I was lying and that I just don't like Black people………Really?
Liberals are the biggest racists there are! Don't believe me? See Obama's response to the "White" police officer in Cambridge! Your crazy if you don't think that was race based favoritism (racism)……………….

Dissent is patriotic. Is patriotism not noble?
I guess so, but there wasn't much to give. Only way I will buy this on DVD is when it drops below 20 bucks and if there is a special features is where the writers and producers say at almost every scene -'yeah, we really screwed up here….and here…and here…and here"
PLus, your forgetting about his REAL ESTATE guy Tony Rezko…. he has helped a bunch of MILLIONAIRES…..like Louis Farrakhan…. and Blago and the list goes on and on!!!!
We need to start a Hillary 2012 ! campaign now
while Hussein Obama's numbers are in a free fall

And just to nitpick –
Does anyone remember Chloe being released from her holding cell (The one with her name on it by now – haha)? First she is in a cell, next time we see her see is back at her hotel.
Who the hell was paying for that huge make shift CTU building?
When Jack and Renee get ambushed in the low-level villian's apart and the villians get killed – there are 2 dead villians, but later in the episode or series, they refer to 3 dead villians? Who is 'The Third Man".
Why does Tony try to shut Jack up when Jack is telling Renee why he is helping Tony escape from the van?
Odd stuff!
HEY – props to Aaron Pierce for being the one guy who has appeared in every season and for being the one character who has never compromised or disgrased himself in any manner. You see Aaron on the job and you know the world is a safer place! Terse, tight-lipped, no small talk – yet in real life, he is a motivational speaker!!!
Grahm would probably vote to confirm Perez Hilton to SCOTUS. Grahm is such a tool.
I thought I read somewhere that one of the show's head honchos (Joel Surnow, perhaps?) scaled back his involvement considerably in season 7. If true, that would explain a lot. After this debacle, I'm not going to bother watching season 8. I don't even recognize 24 anymore.
He is such a tool, I forgot how to spell his name.
"Now let us drink some very, sexy, wine." – Eduardo Gambetti. A great movie. Madeline Kahn is one of the most underrated actresses.
Both those novels are wonderful, but it's alternately amusing and horrifying to see Doyle's view of America as apparently rampant with murderous Irish gangsters and lecherous polygamists. (Although I always found the end of "The Yellow Face" to be remarkably progressive for the time it was written.) One of my best purchases was the slipcased Annotated Holmes collections edited by Leslie S. Klinger. Their heft is hard on the wrists, but a wealth of info in plain language to amplify enjoyment of the stories.
Notable for having the first CGI character on film, the stained glass knight, as I recall!
"Dissent is patriotic"? Where'd you pick up that load of rubbish? It reads like something you were taught by some hygenically challenged 11th grade Political Science teacher who is upset because William Ayers no longer returns his calls.
Dissent, in and of itself, is nothing. It's only patriotic if motivated by patriotism.
That's a good example of how truly limited in intellect you are.
I agree completely. Homes the woman-hater now a lecher? Holmes an action hero? Holmes a Victorian James Bond????
Puh-leeez. Give me Doyle's Holmes, or his screen avatar Jeremy Brett.
I guess I must have picked up that "rubbish" at a Tea Bagger party.
thanks for the compliment. "you are as young as you feel".
"See Obama's response to the "White" police officer in Cambridge! Your crazy if you don't think that was race based favoritism (racism)………………. "
Were all the police officers white? I thought I saw a black one in the photos.
"Which view draws people together?" it drew more people together than the other side did last Nov 4.
Eh, he just likes stirring up the muck to see if there are any interesting chunks in the bottom, reasonable people grow out of that phase eventually. Sure it can seem romantic to look for lost gold jewlery in the bottom of a septic tank, but the romance quickly fades when you start hauling out buckets. And the beauty of the idea of throwing in lit dynamite sticks to help goes away pretty quick. "Bomb thrower" indeed.
"Conservatism recognizes that there is racism and does it's best to remove it. "
In the years of 2001-2006, when conservatism's political dominance reigned, how did conservatism improve racism in this country? Alternatively, how has the rise of Rush Limbaugh helped the cause of race relations? Where in either case was there "recognition of racism"? How was an attempt made to remove it?
"Liberalism recognizes that there is racism and does it's best to keep it alive." This statement is confused. Surely you can't mean that liberalism aims to keep alive the *same* racism that it recognizes? I would imagine that you feel that liberals aim to keep alive the racism that they deny?
Just like the "Cracker."
"Racism is when ever you group according to race and then claim something about that group. Conservatism is all about the INDIVIDUAL. Liberalism is all about groups."
I agree with you that liberal thought willingly recognizes groups. I think that's a good thing. I think that the individualism-versus-groups discussion has some merits. I think its fair to be skeptical about the purity of the phisophy of "individualism".
Man-child, get over yourself. There is no improving RACISM.
Notice here folks… he didn't explain why my original post was "racist". He didn't back up the accusation. He called me inept and spouted some other stuff, but he's basically dissembling.
OhMyGOODNESS!
Holmes was an action hero of his times. "The game's a foot!!"
To my knowledge, Holmes only loved one woman. Watson mentioned her as The Woman.
"How about looking some up? Check out who were the proponents of Civil Rights for Blacks."
okay, sure. I will look up… what's that woman who insisted on being at the front of the bus? Rosa Parks. What about her? Secretary for the NAACP. Part native-American, part Scotch-Irish. Teacher, African Methodist, worked for John Conyers for years.
Read what I wrote. If you wish to then take my words, written in reference to your original comment, twist them into a snappy little counter response to make yourself feel better, do it.
You're a child, son, a child.
You truly are a numbskull!
Hey, next time you are confronted by a liberal about your voting habits. Laugh whole-heartedly and say you don't vote for KNOWN racists.
*ahem* "the game's _afoot_" not "a bipedal extremity."
) (sorry, couldn't resist!) I don't think he actually loved Irene Adler…he had a fairly low opinion of women but always admired her for hands down getting the best of him. It's funny that he maintained such an opinion of women, given the parade of plucky typists and governesses who came to him for help.

Cool video. Thanks for the link Scott.
One great line missed, fresh in my mind since I watched it again last night, "They Call Me Mr.Tibbs!" from 'In the Heat of the Night".
Classic.
"Inherent to the "affirmative action" doctrine is the insulting assumption that minorities, unlike whites, are incapable of great achievement without government assistance;"
Affirmative action, in the terms of its proponents, is that race (or gender, ethic, etc) should be considered to foster equal opportunity or to increase diversity. Basically, it rejects the moral principal of "color blindness". Its saying: For this reason or that, some this group of folks tends to have a handicap.
When we provide wheelchair access to a building, are we effectively "assuming that a wheelchair-bound person" is incapable of the great achievement of being able to get up the stairs without the help of the ramp? I think that's overstating it. Certainly it would be a great achievement for that person to make it up to the building entrance without those ramps.
CONTINUED…
Likewise, certainly it’s a great achievement that we see all of the time when blacks / Latinos / etc work hard, avoid the plentitude of trouble in cities, and persevere. Would their great achievement be even greater if they didn't have the helping hand of Affirmative Action programs? YES! It would! Just like the “greater” achievement of a handicapped person making it up those stairs without a ramp. But is that right?! Is it moral to sit back and say: “Its better of you scale an even taller mountain!”
That is bogus.
I like the idea, but you forgot one thing. Liberals think racism is a one way street. Whites can be racist, but every other group is just "venting there frustations at being kept down by the white man"………This play's "Big" in Chicago………….
Holy Sh!t… I knew it would be trouble when it showed the location as Santa Cruz but good Lord Almighty. That video needs to go viral.
Joel Surnow was out altogether
LOL
He's The One…
Ok
All docs start billing Obama personally. He's The One single payer !
T. Jed, get the Klingers. Not only is the canon broken up into 3 _slightly_ easier to handle volumes (2 of short stories, the 3rd the 4 novels), while it pays respect to Baring-Gould, it's much better researched and in a more modern style. It also has more recent supplemental essays related to certain stories (dating, codes, etc.) and is equally well illustrated and referenced, handsomely bound on good paper with an easy to read font. (Yes, my late dad was a graphic artist/book designer. I pay attention to these things) I still have my tattered Baring-Gould somewhere, but it's like going from cassettes to cd's–you just won't need it anymore. That's what I love about books…while my blu-rays are delicious, I doubt that 75 years on they'll still be viable whereas books, as long as you keep your fingers cheetos-dust free while reading, are pretty much immortal.
Clinton / Pelosi 2012 !
Clinton / Boxer 2012 !
Clinton / Gates 2012 !
Which one sounds better ?
Wait
Clinton / Lewensky 2012 !
Hahaha
"Liberals think racism is a one way street. Whites can be racist, but every other group is just "venting there frustations at being kept down by the white man"."
Thank you for affirming my original post.
I'm just pointing at the scoreboard.
so why is that sir? Because you "old" you get to be bitter and give up on idealism?
I'm not out to eradicate racism. I just like to call people's b.s. when they say they are against racism and its not quite so simple.
There is no doubt in anyone's mind that there is racism on the left. So what? Please. You on the right can give me a call sometime when you have anywhere in hell a reasonable gripe about it.
Slavery, Jim Crow, urban blight… but then: shame on black people for having a chip on their shoulder! YEAH. okay. Blacks aren't the only ones with a chip on their shoulder, apparently.

"There is no improving RACISM."
Yep. that's right. that's exactly how you feel. That's why so many politicians just say, heck with it. might as well leverage it to get elected.
Take the truthers. Are they all really so dumb as sh*t on a stick? Or are they just filled with the feeling that "Obama ain't one of us"? <— now that is a "true" feeling for them, no argument there.
Soooo… the facts get in the way a little bit. So what? Let them have their idiocy. What's the harm? It'll help in the election after all!
What? The intent of your original post was to paint Republicans and Conservatives as racist! You implied that we are guilty of racism and that we deny it by pointing to Liberals actions to cover our own inherent biggotry..
I did not affirm your original post, I pointed out the "fact" that Liberals will never admit to racism in there little club. If you are correct, why won't you admit that Gates and Obama acted out of dislike of whites? Seriously, do you think Gate's little tyraid was not motivated by deep seated dislike (racism) of white people?
There is always an excuse from Liberals as to why one of there own has made some demeaning or derogatory remark towards another group and we don't believe any of them.
Face facts, your Presidents remarks where based solely on the color of the Cambridge officers skin. Had the black officer at the scene put the handcuff's on Gates, Obama wouldn't of said Boo!
"we deny it by pointing to Liberals"
"I pointed out the "fact" that Liberals will never admit to racism"
…hmmmm…

Another forthright & patriotic speech from Sarah Palin today – as she left office.
She doesn't need 'promters of any kind to tell you – clearly – what she thinks.
Missed that! Got me on that one……..
Does this mean you agree that Gates was motivated by race and to a lesser degree Obama?
I wouldn't think that Michelle would want those expensive "tennies" to get dirty. And getting mud on her hands — except for a photo shoot — is probably below her pay grade.
I saw that also
Who knew the next Reagan would be a woman
I am glad it is tho
That was GREAT! Thanks for posting the website.
With all the depressing news about what Obama is doing to our country today, we all certainly need a laugh.
Definitely, I am a contrarian. I do enjoy taking the opposite view. Is it out of arrogance or conceit? hmmm, I'll have to think about that.
As far as clever or smart? its all relative. I know I'm smarter than your average bear, so to speak. But I learn stuff new all the time, and that is true for my conversations here. I don't pretend to be a know-it-all. But I do like to argue.
professionally speaking, I'm an engineer. And yourself?
enlighten me then, oh-wise-one. What is a thought hierarchy?
Here’s a headline I read today: “Key Senate Democrat Concedes Republican Support Needed for Health Overhaul.”
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/07/26/key-se...
As far as I’m concerned, if the Republicans were not allowed to help write it, none of them should vote for it. Those who do should be voted out of office!
he did not originally assert that it was racial profiling!
REPORTER: "What does that incident say to you? And what does it say about race relations in America?"
then later on in the answer…
OBAMA: "I don't know – not having been there, not seeing all of the facts, what roll race place in that…" and then he goes on to preface the "stupidly" thing by saying "any of us would be angry".
The "stupidly" word choice was aimed at the cops for arresting the guy, but did not indicate any suspicion of racial profiling. No, sorry.

I understand the new Health Care Bill will have mandatory Sensitivity Training for White's only.
Then next time some useless "Black Studies" professor berates a good cop doing his job we will just say.

I wonder what Professor Gates will order, Colt 45 Malt in a tall boy?

Then you must be familiar with the Brett adaptions? BTW, I didn't know about Guy Ritchie, so I looked him up and understand your comments. Well, we can hope can we not?
Maureen Dowd makes me want to puke:
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/07/26/opinion/26dowd….
I hope *before* Sgt. Crowley sits down with Mr. 'Elitist Black Man Chip On His Shoulder Apology Wantin' Gates and The One, that the Cambridge PD release the audio tape of the arrest for everyone in this country to hear.
Second, Sgt. Crowley, when having his beer with these two gents, will receive an apology from them which *he* is due, they will shake hands and it's over. Finito.
Anything short of that is BS.
Agreed- Holmes *respected* Irene Adler- alone among all women.
Also, Holmes was 'cat-like' in his personal hygeine (if not his housekeeping)- so what's with this scruffy, disheveled Ritchie/Downey version?
But he continued to comment on the topic when it was abundantely clear to everyone that Gates was making this about race. His first response should have been no response. Obama's statement only reinforces the belief that he had a preconceived notion of what must have happened. That, because his friend was black and arrested by a white officer, race must be a factor. The response looked far to familar to him. Something he believes.
Gates broke the law. You don't speak to law enforcement like he did no matter who you are, there job is hard enough, yet Barry offered no apology to the officer or law enforcement in general for a his stereotyped response. Gates broke the law! Obama stuck up for the lawbreaker and insulted the police. This is hardly conduct becoming the President of the United States. I just don't believe Obama. I think he's a liar………….
Well, that's easily chalked up to the 7% solution, but still…
When I click on reply to the "24" thread, I keep getting this-

Has this site been hacked?
Do you know, if Obama stops suddenly, Maureen Dowd would travel halfway up his butt.
well I certainly thought he had no more involvement with the show, but if somebody knows differently, maybe they should just say so.
Absolutely correct re. I.A. – incidentally, in talking about your annotated Holmes, I have the William S. Baring-Gould version which must weigh at least ten pounds. I no longer pull it out all that much, but It does contain all the original Strand magazine illustrations as well as lots of good relevant antecdotal information.
My working copy though is still a two volume "memorial edition" circa 1930 that was my grandfather's and condensed for the first time the entire canon down to two volumes. I am fortunate indeed to have inherited his early 1900's editions of "His Last Bow" "Hound of the Basker Baskervilles" and several others. Sorry to prattle on, but it's always fun to chat with fellow Holmes lovers.
P.S. I think he felt women were a distraction he could not tolerate in his chosen profession.
Yet Obama has not offered an apology and has he really has not back off his original assertion that it was racial profiling,
The point I was trying to make was that Liberals seem to be the ones who have a problem with race, religion and sexual orientation. I do not know, nor do I care, what the black officer's political views are. He could be a Republican for all we know. We do however know Obama's and Gates's political leanings and they happen to be the ones who started this mess……….
"Does this mean you agree that Gates was motivated by race and to a lesser degree Obama"
I think that's an obviously true statement. I think Obama allowed his point of view to be revealed. God forbid. Does he have a chip on his shoulder?
The only question I really ask myself on that topic is this: If I were a black man in America, would I have a chip on my shoulder? Is it so easy for me, with my white male middle class advantages, to stand here and say: Oh that black guy is racist! What did I do to him? You guys may feel differently, but the one thing I will not agree with you on… is that this is a simple thing.
I don't feel stupid. I feel like I learned something. thanks gun totting texas boy. (although the term that comes to mind is: dick.)
sorry if you can't follow my train of thought style. If it seems like a train wreck then skip it. perhaps you can block my posts from your view. really, by all means, go for it.
CgntvDssdnt: “I guess I must have picked up that "rubbish" at a Tea Bagger party.”
Reply to CognitiveDissident Troll —
If you “stupidly” went to a "Tea Bagger Party" rather than a "Tea (Taxed Enough Already) Party," you may have picked up a lot more than "rubbish" — and the cure may be worse than the bite!
You must just be bored today, Troll. But cheer up, tomorrow you can get checked by your doctor for a STD.
An engineer, huh? My grandkids used to be really into Thomas the Tank Engine, but they outgrew it.
I recently retired from a career in aviation meteorology. I currently work at a V.A. Hospital in customer service.

EXAMPLE= I went to the store. I bought butter. I came home and put it away.
Now, we come to you, and by extension, liberals:
I went to the store. Wait, wasn't I just talking about affirmative action? SAVE THE WHALES!
And all that comes from a "gun-tottin' texas boy."
Don't you feel stupid…
REPORTER: "And what does that say about race relations in America?"
the reporter ASKED him to embellish on the subject, and Obama did, only basically saying: look when stuff like this happens, we it tweaks our ingrained fears…etc, etc. e.g. it may not be a racial incident, but due to histories and tendencies, it brings up stuff for us. So yeah, Obama did talk about race with respect to this issue. I STILL don't think that Obama meant to say that the officer was doing something racial… He did say "stupidly" which is its own big bag of problems for Obama, but he did not suggest (effectively or intentionally) that the officer was racist.
Yeah, he could have (and should have) stayed above it. He probably just was trying to help smooth things out for a bad day that happened to his friend.
"Does this mean you agree that Gates was motivated by race and to a lesser degree Obama"

You guys may feel differently, but the one thing I will not agree with you on… is that this is a simple thing.
A lot of conservatives claim that being conservative means you are also religious. So tell me then: Doesn't the Bible tell us not be judgmental? So, yeah, maybe blacks do have a chip on their shoulder. I ask you Biblically minded times: who are we to accuse and criticize?
"Sheer LUCK!"
Putting in that ramp in no way affects the people who use the stairs. Your analogy stinks.
Never saw that one. The only Sherlock Holmes comedy I truly love is "Without a clue" starring Ben Kingsley and Michael Caine. I can watch that again and again.
I didn´t even finish season 6. Looks like I spared myself some disappointment.
Killing George Mason back in Season 2 went over the line if you ask me.
