Malcom McDowell, I have loved hime since Clockwork Orange, but I haven't seen this.
Open thread:
what is this Aaron Russo's "America from Freedom to Fascism"? I couldn't finish it. It seems like a lot of Black Helicopters and Tin Foil Hat conspiracy theories. Some Ron Paul guy gave me a copy.

Is there anyone who can comment on it?
I saw it and asked the same question in a post here on BH-Are We a Nation of Serfs?by Alvaro Alvillar…check it out !
This should have been a reply to the first comment by BuckwheatPicard…oops!

Jon Stewart is America's most trusted newscaster–couldn't believe that until I saw the competition (Charlie Gibson, Katie Couric, and Brian Williams). Had to reluctantly admit he'd probably be my choice. At least he doesn't pretend to be serious in his delivery…
And it broke my heart to see Katie coming in at a mere 7% after she's tried so hard to endear herself the mainstream America…
I find myself royally p'd off that I have a president I can't trust as far as I can throw him and who will say and do anything to involuntarily enslave me to his anti-American ideals.
they love her on "auto-tune the news"
they get a bit redundant but they are funny

see if that works…if not just BH search alvillar. it got a lot of comments that might help!
"Well I dont know all the facts and details of this case against my friend Harvard "Black Studies" professor Gates but clearly the police are a bunch of stupid, racist, facist, pigs who have nothing better to do then hararass innocent black men for no reason and put hem in jail just for verbally abusing police officers there to investigate the burglery of their homes. Barack Obama
Just what do they do all day over at the "Black Studies" Dept of Harvard anyway?
yeah it was quite the popular topic.
"O Lucky Man" is a complete mess of a movie. Its only redeeming virtue is one scene where you can see a graffito scrawled on a brick wall–"Revolution is the opiate of intellectuals."
Yes. I has gotten to the point that I cannot bear to listen to him. How do I know he is lying? His lips are moving. The gist of his argument is : "Trust me. We can have everything we want and not really have to pay for it."
The thing is, we've had good and bad presidents before; we've had presidents I have agreed with and disagreed with; but none of those presidents has ever before been an actual, real threat to the this country's constitutional freedoms the way Barry Soetoro is. He is bound and determined to sink this country into the tried and failed ideals of socialism and probably marxism if truth be told. I am deeply concerned about where he is herding this country. I am deeply upset at the fact that even GOP politicians are being so easily led by this pied piper.
Good morning people..
It maybe a couple of days old, but this is the change we can believe in!!!
http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/International/Stor...
Last night, I threw up about 6X at around 8:45 or so….. the amount of drivel coming out of this mans voice made me wretch harder then I have ever before in my life!!!
Katie Couric… what a MARROON!
that is a great line
Like a broken clock, hunh?
lol.
I couldn't even dare turn on the presser… first sign of the empty podium, I had to change the channel IMMEDIATELY!
Maybe this'll teach her to do actual interviews with people instead of snarky little lib hit jobs.
I can't even listen to that guy anymore. He literally makes me sick.
"O Lucky Man" was intended as Lindsay Anderson's version of "The Pilgrim's Progress" through what was then contemporary Britain. It is an uneven film but it is still definitely worth seeing. I believe that Malcolm McDowell co-wrote the script based on his own experiences as a neophyte coffee salesman. In any event he was perfect as the innocent young man exposed to an increasingly bizarre series of vignettes that parodied British life. Alan Price's music was perfect and his overall score is one of the ten best ever for motion picture.
Ah, 'O Lucky Man!' An original film if ever there was one, an acquired taste for sure. I remember going to see it when it first came out (1973) and left after about 5 minutes (did the same with Altman's 'Nashville') Being a movie lover something told me to go back another day and give it a second chance. Glad I did. Both films are two of my favorites. A true odyssey of a story, yes, as Jed mentioned, can be bizarre at moments, actors playing mutilple parts, as we follow McDowell's character on a wild journey. Score by Alan Price, who also appears in the movie, is perfect. A link for a look and listen:

Great tagline and just look at that mug of McDowell on the poster…
Smile while you're makin' it. Laugh while you're takin' it. Even though you're fakin' it. Nobody's gonna know…
Out on DVD after many years, if you're looking for entertainment that's different, 'O Lucky Man!' is it.
Of course the correct answer is Megyn Kelley!!!!
Cleary you didn't pay enough attention.
He was just explaining it's not as it should be right now and things need to back to what they could have been because now is the time and it's not like it wasn't the economy he inheretted and it's really just a matter of getting it to be the thing that should have been before it was. He's serious people. This is no game.
After President Obama (never felt sicker typing that after last night) trashed the Cambridge Police, by calling them 'stupid'. Our Fearless Leader better not count on any Fraternal Order chapters endorsing him anymore.
What a slap in the face to our brave policemen and women.
rigghtt, becaus he can tell that we were confused when we confused our indirect thinking to take tonsils out of little Janey when she was allergical.
So I'm taking it that his speech did not sway you into wanting to destroy our country to achieve whatever it was he wants to achieve?
Mr. Obamma clearey want to help me acheive my goles in life. I think I shud help him acheive whatever he wants. Plus he is cool. Where can I affix my X?
syvyn11-
Just read that as a pathetic attempt to accuse naysayers of this monstrous healthcare proposal of being racist. He is unforgivable.
I dunno…they arrested him for "disorderly conduct" AFTER he showed id proving he was in his own home. While I know it's never wise to mouth off to the cops, it sort of seems they should've just walked away after it was proven there was no break-in. I think the average cop is man (or woman) enough to take a tongue lashing by a 60-ish plump professor. And they dropped all the charges so there couldn't have been too much merit to begin with, IMO.
Grate post!
Obama is becoming more of a divider everyday. Liberal blinders, white guilt, and black excuses are at an all time high. My favorite part of this story is everyone shouting 'he gave an ID, he gave an ID!!'. Too bad said ID did not contain an address (nor was it of state or federal issue, therefore had no bearing on the situation). I have a feeling Gates wanted to get famous, because, even though he is apparently one of Time's most "influential " people, most people don't give a sh*t who he is.
Kudos for this post.
It's an all-American nightmare.
However, I notice an increasing number of outbursts at town meetings, etc., to spring hope (knock on wood) that the people are not going to stand for it.
No kidding! And what a question to conclude another faux press conference!
O. seemed to be awfully well informed on this minor incident.
the "Dear Leader" is all hollow inside, so I am sure you could through him a bit farther than you think.
But then all that pork will be fattening him up soon.
they dropped charges because they were pressured to do so, doesn't matter if they were right or not, as soon as a white cop is accused of racism, he can never be right about what happened. It wouldn't have mattered if there were ten witnesses.
Obama (stupidly) commenting on the situation at all is laughable at best.
O LUCKY MAN is one of those surreal films that came out in the late 60's early '70's. It is an aquired taste but well worth the look. A good double feature would be with THE RULING CLASS. Now dat's entertainment!
Was it possible to vote for "none of the above"? That was a pretty lackluster group.
at best. Hmmmm.
Even more fun on our OPEN THREADS!!!!
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/article6...
You KNOW the pitch fails when even GMA won't talk about it the next morning! Even worse, they DID mention the Gates kerfluffle, and mentioned how Obama said the cops "acted stupidly".
LOL!!!
Obama had NO IDEA what happened, but hey- why not comment on it!!! (Turns out Gates is another liberal elitist, race-baiting black guy who, despite his position, entitlements and success, still sees racists everywhere.)
Obama has NO IDEA what is in the current health care bill, but hey- why not keep on pushing it?
What AN IDIOT!!!!
They study how oppressed the blacks are in the Congress, Senate, all major Universities, the boardrooms of America, the national labs, the professional sports teams, law enforcement, the music industry, the courts and now, the White House.
Oh, and they also study exactly to what degree white people are racist and the various means by which they exhibit their racism.
Why not comment on the Gates kerfluffle it if you do not know about it????????????
Jjaneen "racist accuser" Garafalo will tell you! If you oppose Obummble you are a racist!! He slipped that right out like a soft poo all over his insipid, incomprehensible argument.

That is an insult to the color.
Line up against the wall when they come in to the building? That's a visual!!
Sure, and if the cops had walked away a little too quickly, they couldv'e been sued for not exercising due diligence and could have been accused of racism for not wanting to take the time to investigate what could have been a crime against a black person's property.
The cops did nothing wrong. Professor Gates did something wrong, and that "something" is called "race-baiting".
Yeah, a Harvard U ID is not exactly a driver's license.
Yes, it is!!!!!
The new american dream… Live next to a ILLEGAL ALIEN, have a GM CAR in the driveway, use any of the GOVERNEMENT BANKS… and go get a flu shot from nationalized healthcare…..Pay over 55% in taxs and go to get free AMERICAN CHEESE BLOCKS FROM THE NEW FOOD CZAR… what a country and AMERICAN HAS BEEN BERY VERY GOOD TO ME!!!!
A rant….
Check out the Smoking Gun's report. http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/years/2009/0...
I know this is one of those 'two sides to every story' things, but here is the police's side of it. There's also a second report from another officer with a Hispanic surname corroborating the white officer's report. Take that as you will. I think we're pretty clearly getting Gates' side of it. What kills me is that Gates states that he can't properly secure his front door because of a previous burglary/robbery attempt. So there's a history of crime at that location, and yet he's upset at the cops for responding to a break-in in progress call. When the cop asked him for ID, why didn't he just get his license and explain to the officer about his stuck front door? Would have saved everyone a world of trouble. But obviously a white cop showing up outside a black man's house for 'no apparent reason' is racism.
Nothing like a good hot July day to get the blood pressure going.
Don't forget that your kids will all graduate to get Hamburger flipping jobs. Sweet.
That final sentence was sarcasm, btw. The cops had a very good reason for showing up at this Gates' house, but apparently Gates didn't seem to think so. It's just straight up racism.
McDonalds University….. I guess there will be a EDUCATION CZAR as well…. giving our children the direction they need going to the GULAG……. Socialism "Change we can believe in"
Here's one for the old open thread: my wife and I are currently contemplating moving. We're a young couple (25 & 27, respectively) with no kids living in eastern Iowa. We're pretty open to anywhere there's not tons of snow in the winter. Winter and snow are great when you're a kid and it means no school and playing in it all day; different story when it means commuting to work and shoveling driveways and sidewalks.
My wife likes California, San Diego specifically. I like the state itself, it's great to visit. But I'm pretty firm against actually living there for the obvious reasons that it's a spiraling pit of failed socialist progressive policies and the high cost of living. We both like Texas though. Any one here hailing from the Lone Star State have recommendations about where in the state to live?
Somebody photoshop Obama's face onto McDowell's, quick! The caption on the poster is perfectly appropriate in describing the Obama Presidency. (Except that most of us who comment on this site know Obama is faking EVERYTHING.)
I loved "The Ruling Class"! O'Toole was great as Jack; that part and the part of Lawrence were his best work, I think.
With a lovely wife who is a Nashville native, I've been there many a time. Unlike you, I did actually enjoy it first time through even though it dragged in spots. A very strange experience happened a couple of years ago when I picked up the DVD. The first viewing after all those years went well enough, but then just recently I screened it for friends, and none of the lines made me laugh. Just one of those things, I guess.
I did enjoy seeing the late great Vassar Clemmons get to play in that movie. Possibly the greatest country fiddler ever, The Kissammee Kid was enjoying temporary left coast Hollywood "celeb" status do to his work with Garcia and Grissman in "Old & In The Way." To date myself in that regard, I was at Sunset Park in Avondale, Pa. when Jerry and "Dawg" first met. Oh, the memories!
That would be perfect….. Obama…….what a LUCKY MAN….. has the world at his feet and he wants Michelle…… a wise AFRO AMERICAN… living on the edge of decency
Let the backpedaling begin! The WH now says Obama's remarks weren't meant to cast aspersions of "stupidity" on the officer who handled the Gates call. "Cooler heads shouldv'e prevailed" they say. Of course, "cooler heads" is direted at the cops who responded, and NOT at Gates, who immediately launched into accussations of racism when a white cop had the audacity to show up and (gasp!) ask for ID at the scene of a possible burglary!
Why can't the WH make good on all the "black people need to be responsible" talk and condemn Gates' race-baiting?
I guess, this is what Obama meant went he was refering to the STUPIDITY of people, not everyone knows he is the MESSIAH:
I. Thou shalt have no God in America, except for me. For we are no longer a Christian nation and, after all, I am the chosen One. (And like God, I do not have a birth certificate.)
II. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, unless it is my face carved on Mt. Rushmore.
III. Thou shalt not utter my middle name in vain (or in public). Only I can say Barack Hussein Obama.
IV. Remember tax day, April 15th, to keep it holy.
V. Honour thy father and thy mother until they are too old and sick to care for. They will cost our public-funded health-care system too much money.
VI. Thou shalt not kill, unless you have an unwanted, unborn baby. For it would be an abomination to punish your daughter with a baby.
VII. Thou shalt not commit adultery if you are conservative or a Republican. Liberals and Democrats are hereby forgiven for all of their infidelity and immorality, but the careers of conservatives will be forever destroyed.
VIII. Thou shalt not steal, until you've been elected to public office. Only then is it acceptable to take money from hard-working, successful citizens and give it to those who do not work, illegal immigrants, or those who do not have the motivation to better their own lives.
IX. Thou shalt not discriminate against thy neighbor unless they are conservative, Caucasian, or Christian.
X. Thou shalt not covet because it is simply unnecessary. I will place such a heavy tax burden on those that have achieved the American Dream that, by the end of my term as President, nobody will have any wealth or material goods left for you to covet.
Gratuitous Plug Time! I CREAM "Obama-care" in a full length piece. Please take four minutes out to read it and tell me what you think. It's on http://shermansmarch.blogspot.com/
were it not for my (and my wife's) actual preference for snow and cold weather, Texas would have been our number one choice for our move. My best friend and blood brother is originally from there.
I just noticed the story above on the BH Marquee..'Bill Cosby Slams Obama…'
Anyone who is interested in reading further, Michelle Malkin has a link to The Smoking Gun, which has posted a copy of the police report. Seems to me, The Prez's old pal, 'Skip' Gates may have some splanin' to do.
Better yet, how about sucking it up and apologize to Officer Crowley and Cambridge PD? I won't hold my breath.
http://michellemalkin.com/2009/07/23/the-dont-taz...
Don't know about anyone else but I'm tired of this BS. 'Skip' Gates is just another black man with a chip on his shoulder. Apologize or STFU.
Jimmy: I prefer the one that says Jon Stewart is the MOST TRUSTED NEWS MAN!!!! what a HOOT
Thanks for sharing the stories, Jed. The reason I probably had a hard time with 'Nashville' at the time was country music was so foreign to me. I was a young kid who listened to mostly rock but loved movies and was an Altman fan. I was happy I went back as the film works on so many levels. A great tapestry of a story woven together with wonderful actors playing such great characters. The movie was ahead of it's time.
Keith Carradine's 'I'm Easy' is such a good song and the scene where he's onstage singing while the women sit there believing he's singing just to them is priceless.
It's an upside down world, that's for sure.
Trying to keep a sense of humor but it is rough at times.
Sense of humor, in this day and age.. if we don't then we are in for a LONG DAY!!!!
Now the FOP is condemning Obama's remarks. Good for them! Once again, Obama gets it wrong 3 times before he tries again and still doesn't get things quite right.
Look, did Gates have a few pops on the way home? I merely ask as this would explain mouthing off at a police officer who is trying to make sure your home is secure.
Notice the racist cop in the forground. Clearly he hates black people.
http://corner.nationalreview.com/post/?q=MzExODMx...
I can't even stand to see him on TV. If his face shows up, I change the channels or turn the TV off. From the moment I first heard the drivel coming from his mouth he has given me the creeps. There was something about him I didn't like and didn't trust. Now I know why. That revulsion I felt turned out to be primal instinct for self-preservation; like putting a rattlesnake in a cage with a mouse.
Perhpas if the Mainstream Sychophants a.k.a. as "The Press" were actually paying attention they would refer to it as a "Train Wreck". Isn't that Palinesque term for speeches they don't agree with?
And, because it is failing he was "forced", rather gleefully, to pull out the "race card", wave it around {"like a fratboy, trying to get boy down!" (love the credit report.com guys spots!)} and by extension, if "WE" don't pass a health care initiative, "WE" are racists. Nice, Chicago thugery at it's finest…

Par for the course. He comments on all his legislative proposals when he clearly doesn't actually know what's in them either.
Say T-mac, I hate to "pimp" my long form writing (ahh, not really, I LOVE TO IT!) but please read my take on Obama-care and tell me what you think. http://shermansmarch.blogspot.com/
There are several of you'all who's opinions I value, and your's is one of them.
Must have got hooked on using cliff notes (or just copying) in school.
What do the kids say? FAIL. EPIC FAIL, perhaps… ;^)
Also, this story from today's Boston Globe, hardly a conservative newspaper, reports this:
http://www.boston.com/news/local/massachusetts/ar...
James, that is a great article….I guess, that is one thing I am frightened by… either waiting or hearing that you not "SICK enough type of thing…. everyone on here knows I lived over seas for a few years and I went to the hospital ONCE….. I was shocked and stunned at the lack of cleaniness and any MODERN equipment… we are going to be MOVING back in time if his healthcare system gets passed…… which I am SCARED AS HELL OVER THE THOUGHT!!!!! but all in all, great article/story!!!
No, idiot. They actually study the diaspora of an entire worldwide culture. They study the history, customs and trend in people of African descent all over the world. It is just as legitimate as any department that studies any other modern culture or cultures of antiquity.
http://aaas.fas.harvard.edu/about_the_department/
But since you couldn't fathom that black people are human beings, this would probably go over your head.
Dolt.
Open thread:
Even I have to admit O'Reilly caught the ball last night:
"What in the world was O'bama talking about [ last night] in that speech. Incoherent."
First things first: You are grossly misinformed.
Secondly, as much as you right-wingers on this site complain about government intrusion in your lives, you sure don't have a problem when governmnet (especially police) intrude in the lives of black people.
Why the double-standard?
Where in the world are the two clowns? Sharpton and Jackson, why are they not on there soap box crying the blues and trumping that RACE card?
Regarding the speech, a quote from Billy Madison sums it up perfectly:
"What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I've ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response was there anything that could even be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having heardit. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul!"

She went with Sean Penn…… what a crock!
What I dont get is that Barry is quick to comment negatively on Honduras, calling the governments actions in deposing a potential despot illegal, quick to comment negatively on opposition to his health care plans, saying they are playing politics when they are trying to save the economy, quick to comment on Israel in building settlements on their land as unjust when Israel has been under assault for decades, comment on police behavior as stupid in the face of obvious provocation by the man arrested, but be silent about Iranian protestors and North Korean missles being launched.
Fines and penalties? sounds like a NBA basketball game…… to funny, I NEVER HAD ANYTHING DONE in there hospitals overseas… I always flew home to the us to have ANYTHING done!
All in all, your article was great!
Buckwheat – this was kind of a sequel to the movie "IF." There is some incredibly weird stuff in it (e.g. scientists making half men half goats.) Alan Price (Of the music group "The Animals") did the soundtrack. If you see it, just keep saying to yourself "chocolate sandwich, chocolate sandwich."
These open threads are really open threads? I thought we were meant to discuss the movie depicted on the poster.
With that in mind, I'll express my love for Courtney Friel. Ab News FTW! She was on O'Really? last night looking superfine. She looks like Carrie Prejean's twin sister. I don't know how I've missed her until recently, but she's the best thing going on FNC.
