Conservatives often talk about what they don’t like about Hollywood. That’s okay, but it’s not productive. Maybe it’s time we talked about what we do like? More to the point, let’s point out when Hollywood has gotten it right. And that brings me to the...

looks like a cute but vacuous date movie
I thought it was ok on DVD when it was called "He's Just Not That Into You."
This looks like one of those films where the brawny, manly man brings the elitist feminist down to Earth.
That's good for America.
Ha John! Actually the dude playing the guy she wants…and I don't mean Butler either…the other one. HOTTIE…
Trust me, John, the man will learn his lesson by the end, and the lesson will be The Man Was Wrong (unless David Mamet or Neil Labute wrote it, but I don't get the sense either had involvement).
The trailer does peg the mind of man. Luckily once in awhile we let values steer us in the right direction.
Thought it was okay when it was "Someone Like You…" Mainly because I'm all for Ashley Judd doing cheerleader routines in her underwear as long as she's not spouting off ill informed animal rights propaganda at the same time.
Gerard Butler is truly a fine actor. In the previews, when his face shows that he really cares about the girl he's coaching to win "the perfect guy," it melted my heart. I think this is going to be a fun date movie, and heaven knows we need more of those!
I hope so. I hope it's not one of those where the guy "learns his lesson" by the end. That would kill it.
Aw, the poor stunningly beautiful woman is having trouble landing a man. My heart bleeds for her.
Come now…we can all see what is going to happen. It's just yet another take on Cyrano de Bergerac. I am sure that by the end, Butler's character will come to realize the shallowness of his ways and that, deep down, he has fallen in love with Heigl's character. She, of course, will have learned to see past Butler's bravado and see the good man that he really is.
Despite knowing all that, I laughed at the trailer.
Trainwreck.
I'm thinking of starting a petition for Gerard Butler to stop making chick flicks and return to action movies. The Ugly Truth? PS I love you? Nim's freaking Island? Gaaaaghhh. Maybe I'm a weird chick, but I'd rather watch 300 than any of that stuff…mmmm Spartan abs…what was I saying? Oh yeah. Gerard, please stop the chick movies and be all macho again.
mmmmm, hotdogs….
I liked it 40 years ago when it was called "Pillow Talk."
Let's see if Katherine Heigl can go without putting this movie down in any interviews post-production…she seems to have a hard time with that.
I predict the guinea pig movie beats this this weekend, with Harry likely still being #1. Although Bullock's "The Proposal" is still making money, so maybe this can score some o' that sweet rom-com $ before next month's super ChickLitFlick "Julie & Julia."
Another dumb chick flick for Butler. The guy has action lead all over him, and he's doing these stupid chick flicks. It's terrible. I wonder if this will make any money? Maybe not, doesn't seem to be much care or skill used to put together a chick flick. Heigl's a limited actress. Not very funny, or charismatic. Overdoes the cute thing. Zoey Deschanel would have made IMHO a better lead, plays nice/innocent better.
I MIGHT rent this on DVD.
was not this movie done in the 80"s. i dont remember so i guess thas what this movie will do. great date movie but the guys need the hangover and transformer 2, but my date and i loved proposal.she is just so gorgous and funny at the sametime. still cant figure her and jessy. he's a lube guy she a smart business women.
I'm with Stephanie. More 300…less Chicklicky.
Butler's an actor. He said himself he didn't feel like he had another 300 flick in him. The man is nearly 40…I don't mind when an actor stretches the talents he has. But Butler is starting to look a little worn out. Puffy cheeked, like a chipmunk.
Yes, he is!
Butler used to be the dude to. Whats up with the puffy cheeks now? He looks wierd to me.
I'm looking forward to this movie because I got a little bit of a girl crush on Heigl after seeing 27 dresses. I thought that movie was better than it should have been. I'm especially looking forward to the John Nolte review, especially knowing (being the longtime reader/fan that I am) you're a sucker for a good romcom — as any true movie lover should be, imo.
Looks like a heavy drinker, IMHO, although I think he gave up smoking a few years ago, so he may have packed on a few too many pounds as a lot of new quitters do.
Supposedly he hasn't touched a drop in over a decade so I would believe him on that unless otherwise proved wrong. Smoking…Oh I'd bet the farm he is still smoking.
I was hoping that a Gerard Butler mention would herald the return of Stephanie! IMDB was running the trailer for his next flick, the action film "Gamer"….I won't mention that GB was talking to Craig Ferguson about his work in a Dreamworks animation film…..
But I agree, I like Gerard in action films; hoping to rent RockARolla (or whatever that is) soon.
Yes, he has been pictured recently smoking–perhaps with chain-smoker Aniston on the set of their new movie.
But I agree the he needs to deviate from the romcom—-charming though he is, can't someone write him a Thomas Crown affair type flick? And what about the drama/thriller he was producing?
I believe Law Abiding Citizen is finished filming now…but I haven't checked recently having lost interest in anything Butler does. He used to be kind of a refreshing character in Hollywood and he bought into the whole thing, including going to Deepak Chopra's Indian Crack House to stop smoking…and then it didn't work. What a tool.
Just read that, too, and I agree—how sad. I will wait for this to come to DVD. Had some interest in Law Abiding Citizen was it was going to be filmed in my hometown of Detroit…..but NO ONE wants to go to Michigan nowadays, even with tax incentives.
Yum. Weenie in a bun.
Ah, well…if it's not one vice, it's another. Guess we won't be seeing that 300 body again anytime soon.
This film is rocking 11% at Rotten Tomatoes. Looks like the title is Ugly Truth in advertising.

Haven't they already remade Cyrano de Bergerac?
This is Roxanne with Steve Martin but with genders reversed. Still… looks OK.
Does she get naked in this film? If so, I will see it when it gets on cable.
Heigl: "So men only think with their groins?"
Butler: "That's right my hot blond babe!"
Heigl: "I can't believe that, this is such madness"
Butler: "NO! THIS IS SPARTAAAAA!"
The audience totally didn't see that coming.
I'll see this. Gerards' puffy face notwithstanding. I can forgive him a little looseness in the features. Hell, Jack Nicholson can still pull the under thirties with no hair and moobs that are firmer and higher than mine. I'll cut Gerard some slack. hehehe.
Seriously though, Gerard needs a "Hangover", stat!
I saw The Hangover on the weekend with my partner and nineteen year old son. Bloody hell!, we were cacking ourselves throughout the whole movie! The whole theatre was in a total uproar. Not a single person got through the movie without almost pissing themselves.
The Hangover has been added to my list of "out there and bloody different hilarious movies". The others so far are,
Idiocracy, some call it a documentary.
Black Sheep. Definitely the BEST Kiwi film ever made.
Severance. A British sleeper comedy that really needs to be seen by a LOT of people around the world.
I find it interesting this movie is about to hit theaters as Gerard Butler and Jennifer Aniston are currently filming a movie and fielding questions of romance on the set. While I believe Gerry isn't necessarily a no name actor, I tend to think the women, Heigl and Aniston, funded these movies and choose to work with Gerry in their chick flicks — The Hollywood elitist feminists choose to work with a known man whore from Sparta. Regardless of the movie's story arch, doesn't this in itself bring the elitist feminist down to Earth?
It has Gerard Butler, maybe the last of the Male men in Hollywood. "nuf said.
Butler was in "Timeline" — small role but stole the film from the lead — forget who it was.
Butler's "Attila" (Made for TV) was one of the better movies I've seen (and it never was in theatres).
Butler's phantom was more attractive even with the scars than the lead who got the girl — forget who that was, too. Anybody know?
This actor is grossly under-used. He needs to watch the chick flicks, however, as the same thing happened to Hugh Jackman — he got stuck in films where he was the manly skirt chaser who was "tamed" by (in Hugh's case, Meg Ryan and Ashley Judd). I can't think of any film with Christian Bale in the lead that Gerard Butler wouldn't have been better.
There are some excellent male actors out there. Unfortunately, they're all Brits, Scots or Aussies. American men are just damned boring with the exception of Robert Downey, Jr., Too much PC in their bloodstream(s).
Growl that has more to do with the fact at whose running Hollywood. There are I would guess tons of American actors who could take any of the parts so called Brit manly men get but these guys are never casted because tehy aren't metrosexuals. I find it really disheartening to.
Butler isn't taht good of an actor. He has his moments but in seeing some of the trailer for this one he looks like he is really forcing it. No chemistry between him and Heigl. Which is too bad, she is stunning. There are several American actors who are second tier that are star quality if they are offered a chance.
She is very attractive with her mouth SHUT!!!
Astonishingly, "Orphan's" pulling a higher percentage. Killer orphans in 2009? Really? I can only think they didn't give many early screenings to "The Ugly Truth," which usually means it stinks and the studio knows it.
You can't tell me with a straight face that Butler would've been a better Batman. I'll give you the rest–in fact, seeing Jackman and Butler go head-to-head in Prestige would've been slick–but with the exception of the nasal Batman voice, Bale owns that role.
I assume you mean Black Sheep (2006) with the killer lambs and not Black Sheep (1996) the lame Tommy Boy follow-up.
Is this the Stepahie from DHP? If so, where have you been?
Sorry, I think Butler would have been a better Batman except perhaps that he might be too tall, thus too imposing. Keaton was a much better Batman than Bale (IMHO) as was Kilmer though Bale was better than Clooney who sucked in the role.
Have you seen "Public Enemies" yet? Bale was bloody awful! Johnny Depp acted rings around him. When Bale is "acting" I never forget for a minute that I'm watching Christian Bale ACTING or what passes as his impersonation of same.
Frankly I cannot imagine any role that he can play that someone else couldn't do better. That's unlike Robert Downey, Jr. or Johnny Depp. I can't imagine any role they can't play.

make mine a Hebrew National with spicy brown mustard.
I am sooooooo not going there.
had one of those at one time, but started loosing it just shy of 38. Ah well, enjoyed it while it lasted *lol*
" I can't think of any film with Christian Bale in the lead that Gerard Butler wouldn't have been better."
He played second fiddle to Bale in "Reign of Fire". Would have been interesting to see the roles reversed in that one.
he so needs to work that line in as his calling card in every movie from now on.
Actually, I call "Idiocracy" a portent of things to come.
Nope I don't know what DHP is, and this is my first time posting comments in a long time. Sorry!
Yes Tommy, the 2006 one. Have never seen the other one.
We won't talk about how long ago my Pam Grier body retired. *sigh*
Gotta love Pam Grier!
I second that!
