----- Later this week, Big Hollywood will address Tom Hanks' comments in this interview about how long it's taking for America to overcome racism. But for now, let us all pause and reflect on just how much more enlightened the actor is than the rest of us. Back to...

I thought this movie was Jodi Foster's best role. This is one of the toughest crimes because it so often a "he said, she said." Foster's character was not perfect, and certainly not just minding her own business, but she absolutely did not deserve what happened to her. The movie also raises interesting questions regarding culpability of those who were standing by and egging the perpetrators on.
The scene, including the music which depicted how things actually went down was great movie making. Tough subject and a great movie.
It also has some interesting points to be made about upgrading certain criminal sentences from the original.
Remember the wreckless endangerment? Slight sentence with a possibility of reduction from felony to misdemeanor.
I liked the South Park version better.
I do, now that you mention it . . . a great point. Still, the thing about this particular movie that I remember most, is how it got me to examine my own thoughts about this specific crime (I must be careful on word choice to avoid administrator.) We know, for example that celebrity males can be complete pigs towards women (e.g. Kobe,) but that they can be targets as well. Similarly, it is easy to jump to a conclusion that the Foster character somehow was at least potentially responsible for her fate because of her flirting in a bar. In both cases though, jumping to conclusions would be unfair to both the sleazy celebrity being set-up and the Foster character whose so-called "moral character" may not be above reproach.
According to many on the internet, the people who booed Obama in St. Louis last night were obviously racist. Not a new revelation about their conclusions, but just pointing out that color still dictates their thoughts. When will content be their barometer for the Pres., 1 year? 3 years??Never???
yes great moving making, but brutal subject matter. I can't watch it again.
This movie was mislabeled at Blockbuster many years back when I was 12. It said PG so my grandmother rented it and she, my 9 year old brother, and I watched it. That was awkward.
I have so many mixed thoughts about this one, I don't want to jump on the conspiracy bandwagon but there does seem to be something going on here. I do believe the Major also filed Conscientious Objector status as well, which would explain the revocation of deployment orders.

I agree I can't watch it again. Too brutal.
Never.
That world view depends on the notion of intractable American racism in order to function. Remove that and the whole thing falls to pieces.
I hadn't heard about the CO part.
maybe so
The class warfare continues.

This obviously is designed to get people on board in order to "soak the rich".
Hopefully most will see through this. Rich and Super-rich set up their money to be protected from "Millionaire Taxes". And if the government actually does manage to tax the "Rich", most of the capital that is used to create new businesses goes away.
A very big part of the reason there is little if any recovery now, the "Rich" are holding off of creating new jobs for better business climes. At the very least, they are doing their level best hiding their money because of this group of idiots in this administration.
Between the players and announcers, this was a FOXfest of unrequited puppylove. Instead of covering the game, they devoted their admiration and constipation for the one. Then I needed Bob Costas blathering on MLBnet. I started following baseball, because I couldn't stand watching the news channels anymore. A harmless diversion? Now he cometh, indeed – he is everywhere. Maybe I should take up rodeo or synchronized swimming – I think that's safe?
I thought this movie was Jodi Foster's best role.… Nyet… Candleshoe (when I first fell in wuv with JF… ) and Contact.
I'm in the same boat. I don't want to believe that someone can reach the White House without being a US citizen, but why won't he produce the documents?? What's the big deal??
AuthorJack-
Yes, by Gosh, is there no escape? My husband was infuriated when he got in the announcer box. I left the room.
I agree, Joelim! Also, Mark Steyn explains very cogently ( I think) that this is an incremental plan and as it fails full-on socialized govt. will follow.
Can you supply the link?
Rented ages ago but left the room, Jed, couldn't watch. Love both actresses but couldn't…
Candleshoe was when I became a Jodie fan too. Of course I was only about four, but still…
Sorry, I heard him talk about it when he was substituting for Rush last week (and I cannot even remember the day.) Steyn's blog gives very few "free" opinions. He writes books and sells 'em! (are you a fan? If not, check him out. He's mostly on the terrorist issue but being educated in Oxford (born? England) he knows socialized medicine and hates it. He lives in N.H. now.)
I listen to him all the time. I have Rush 24/7. I'll find it. Thanks.
I am listening to Sotomayor. Doesn't she sound like Janet Reno of Clinton fame?
Re:The Accused.
There are 300 million stories in this country. Which means that there are going to be hundreds of "one in a million" type crimes and bizarre episodes going on every day. The problem with media is that when one of these situations happens to align with the narrative a particular power block wants propagated, then a "one in a million" shot becomes mainstream and by the nature of media appears like an everyday event.
How many people have had relatives call you from someplace else in the country and inquire if you're still in good health after they've watched some fire, earthquake or storm event on television which supposedly has devastated your area, but that you are barely aware of? The media blows up small, statistically unimportant things and presents them as something the average watcher thinks happens all the time.
The problem is that this is the fodder from which hate laws and political movements are built. I sympathize with the victim of the tragic case that "The Accused" was based on, but the result of that movie has been the "Take back the night" movement on college campus's across the country. These are feminist evangelical rape awareness meetings and have become a yearly event on many campus's. Meetings which are effectively man hating recruitment devices for radical feminists.
I would like to see someone write a book on how to intelligently watch media, in fact, it should be a required course in high school. I believe much of the present steep political divide in this country is a result of the media explosion and it's effective exploitation for political ends. If the knowledge of how the media, in general, manipulates then it may well defuse what has become a disagreeable situation.
Because it keeps the conspiracy section of the right wing busy chasing a single sheet of paper in Hawaii instead of focusing on real misdeeds happening in DC. It's actually a decent political strategy. Obama is so carefully controlled and scripted that there needs to be some misdirection utilized to divert criticism away from his agenda.
A very tough subject to deal with, let alone watch. I'm not so sure even I could watch it today, but it did broaden my intellectual horizons
There were a lot of things that made me turn away from the game very early this year. The several days of gushing over Obama's first pitch, ESPN has mentioned Obama more than Tiger Woods and Brett Favre combined in the past few days. It's supposed to be about sports! Andy McCarthy has a good takedown of this on The Corner at NRO which includes a comment about why we were not treated to a good view of were Obama's pitch landed. All the fanfare leading up to this, dozens of cameras, the President on the mound and they can't reproduce something they do 300 times pergame, which is capture the pitch on camera and broadcast it.
That's exactly the reason I don't want to jump the shark on this.
I agree there is no question that this is an interim step. Once the foot is in the door. Mark Stein . . . . is excellent and enjoy listening when he guest hosts, although I am hit or miss on listening, particularly beyond the first hour (usually check out the website for highlights.
But why not…just turn it off? Why leave the room?
I tried the last two days. Between the self-aggrandizing senatorial speeches that have nothing to do with the hearings (I really don't care what your teenage job was, lady), it's chloroform. And it seems to me they just keep asking her the same three questions. She's a judge, guys. She's not likely to slip up.

Poor Indy.
Hey–why isn't the background of the site green for those plucky Iranians anymore? Have we so soon forgotten??
Who else thinks this health care plan that is being rushed through the House at this very moment is looking more and more like a Monoply than anything that will actually lower costs of health care?
Oh I wish I could have seen that…. and didn't MO vote for Obama in the Electoral College?
Have you seen PO's pitch? It didn't make it past the plate, yet MSM says it did.
http://www.breitbart.tv/media-conspiracy-bloggers...
The catcher while being over the plate, had to reach forward at least a foot to catch it.
If the catcher was in the correct position, behind the plate, he would have had to dive for it.
I just responded to a totally different conversation!!!! haha
But kind of same answer as my response to leaving a scary movie anyway…
husband watching.
blujay, yeah…
and who else thinks we are going to use monopoly MONEY pretty soon…
I care not at all whether he can pitch. After all, he's a politician, not a baseball player. What bothers me is that people are now lying about the quality of the pitch which makes believe more and more that FOX intentionally provided a bad angle for the TV audience. That the "independent," "mainstream" media falls all over itself, including lowering their standards, in order to praise this guy is just plain creepy.
I can't go to Peru…
Except, according to what I read, Dan.. the Conscientious Objector status didn't come into the final decision?
I'm definitely not thrilled with the Major doing this to not performing his duties, but I understand his argument..
"[Then] any order coming out of the presidency or his chain of command is illegal. Should I deploy, I would essentially be following an illegal [order]. If I happened to be captured by the enemy in a foreign land, I would not be privy to the Geneva Convention protections," he said.
I understand the line of thinking, but to my knowledge, President Obama took the oath of office, so he is officially at the top of the chain of command?
I saw Inglorious Basterds last night. Loved it. The trailer is very misleading. There are only about 2 or 3 individual scenes of graphic violence. And about 70% is subtitled from French or German. I would say Pitt's role is relatively minor.
It's about 2:40 without trailers but it moves along well because it's shot in chapters similar to kill bill and pulp fiction. Again, loved it.
I disagree with you completely. Rape is still a problem on dimly lit campus paths across the country. Any attempt to make these places safer is ok in my book.
I disagree.
Agreed. His pitching is irrelevant, besides it looked like he was wearing the largest bulletproof vest known to man. It just seemed so intentional that for the most highly publicized opening pitch in years they use a camera angle that no one ever uses for a first pitch. Really, really fishy.
Good flick . . .but Jodie has cranked out some really bad cliches lately . . .
The greatest story never told by Hollywood.
Christopher Marlowe, genius playwright and shadowy spy, fakes his death to avoid being sent to the gallows. Accused of atheism and heresy, he goes underground, protected by his handlers in Queen Elizabeth's government. Soon after, works attributed to Shakespeare (who prior had no record as a writer!) begin appearing. Written by whom? Christopher Marlowe – the greatest Elizabethan playwright when he was "alive." Marlowe, with Shakespeare as the willing entrepeneurial frontman!

And from Emmy-winning filmmaker Mike Rubbo, this clip from his critically acclaimed PBS/Frontline documentary on the theory above, Much Ado About Something.

Can't deny Clarisse was a tremendous role for Foster even though I think the Accused presented her with an even greater acting challenge, but hey, she was excellent in both so who is to really say. Hillary Swank has one of those androgynous faces that permits her to perfect roles such as Karate Kid II, a female boxer, or gender transfer candidate. In the case of Foster, just a guess, but I think she specifically tries to go for roles that will be a role model to females in terms of achieving and taking care of themselves. "Boys Don't Cry" was a compelling movie. I don't know how exactly historically accurate it was, but compelling nonetheless.
So on Drudge there is an article link about a Soldier (a Major in the Army Reserve) who said he shouldn't have to go to Afghanistan because Obama isn't legally eligible to be president.
The Army revoked his deployment orders. This seems like a huge error. I wonder how many others will attempt the same thing. This lends the air of credibilty to the birth certificate thing.
I was never really a believer in this whole mess, but it seems the waters have been muddied.
By the way, the lawyer in the case is named Orly Taitz, which is surprisingly similar to a prolific poster here, albeit with a very low score.
booing him doesnt mean its racist. What about the times Bush was booed? Its dislike for what they see. Two different opinions…I dont like Obama, I never will. It has nothing to do with his color.
since it is a conspiracy, maybe it was to hide the marksman on the knoll.
are those 2-3scenes as bloody as they seem to be?
Sebastian
Seems you like this Marlow angle. but do you have to bring it up every time you post?
poor grandma. Still, the depiction of the subject matter pales in comparison with French "shock" film maker Caspar Noe's movie "Irreversable" with Monica Bellucci. That is the most brutally violent act I have ever witnessed on film. It is not for the squeamish (arguably not for anybody for that matter.) At least it does contain GRAPHIC WARNINGS on the label.)
They must be paying him per mention–like handing out flyers! ;-D

I've always had a weird attachment to Jodie Foster after an old girlfriend of mine told me she thought that she was exactly the kind of women I was attracted to. A certain discomfort comes in knowing there's some truth to that statement.
That said I don't think this is her best role because it doesn't play to her strengths. Foster's strength has always been in playing a bookish and/or academic professional woman in a totally plausible way. It's probably extremely sexist to point out that the touch of androgeneity adds to the effect, but you have to admit how hard it is to do while pitying the poor "nuclear physicist" Denise Richards. I just watched the semi-ridiculous movie Flightplan about a week ago and even though the story itself stretched credulity to say the least, I didn't have the least bit of trouble believing that Jodie could design an airline engine.
I know you are not rich. You have no concept of how wealth is created nor protected.
The reason I think it was her best role is exactly what you point out {sic} "it doesn't play to her strengths." She did a great job by being convincing in the role despite that fact.
They scalp a few Nazi's but it's pretty cartoonish. They scalp them because Brad Pitt's character is part Apache. It's in Chapter 2 aptly named "inglorious basterds." A Nazi also takes a bat to the head which was very well shot.
And the final scene has Pitt doing something graphic with his knife. I hate to give away endings. I found the plot compelling, trademark Tarantino dialogue and believe it or not . . . very Conservative and Pro-American.
"…A very big part of the reason there is little if any recovery now, the "Rich" are holding off of creating new jobs for better business climate…"
I disagree with that comment. New jobs are created when there is demand. Reagan and Bush Jr. tax cuts have choked this country outside of the small group of elite pigs who own the Republicans. The rich will pay more taxes because we voted out most of those who were preventing it. Will this make the tycoons stop growing their empires? Hardly.
Just saw a trailer for the documentary "The Way We Get By", about 3 elderly people who travel to a small airport in Maine to welcome the troops home and to see them off. If this doesn't touch you, nothing will. It opens in limited release this weekend, and comes to Los Angeles next month. I can't wait.
You bring up a good point. Since I am not rich, I shouldn't have an opinion. Would you take a look at this and let me know what you think of it?

No one is chasing a single piece of paper. B. Hussein. O. Jr. is in violaton of our most important laws, the Constitution, and is waving his ass in all our faces.
He got to the presidency because Big Media refused to inform the American public of the facts. Most likely, he was not born on American soil. Definitely, his father was not an American citizen, but under British rule.
