I like the Godfather films for period nostalgia.
How badly do you think the Messiah will trash the US while he's in Russia? His main concern will probably be befriending Putin et al, so naturally he has to tell them what a horrible big bad country we've been to poor Russia these past decades.
I never really liked a "Woody Allen" movie. In other words, I don't seek them out and most of the time, I am bored by them.
I love "Radio Days". I think it's the only Woody Allen movie that I like but he did an exceptional job with what is essentially a period piece. Very nostalgic and a terrific sound track.
But there are Woody Allen films and then there are Woody Allen films — this one was really a nice little movie, and a lot of fun.
I am totally burned out on pop black culture in music and dance. I now shall shun it in all forms….as well as it's white copy-cats and apologists, plus all academic, eggheads and beard scrathers who attempt to validate it.
No more low-lifes – and that goes for sports, too.
And the hell with Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton and all the other old black b/s'ers.
No more low-lifes!!!
With O, you never know. He could apologize for embarassing them in the 1980 Winter Olympics.
Perhaps they will both stare in their own mirrors as they emit a few words to one another.
This is probably my favorite Allen film because it makes me nostalgic for a period time that came twenty five to thirty years before I was born! That's nostalgia!
What did you think of Diane Keaton singing?
There´s always the classics. You cannot lump the great jazz and soul masters with what´s popular today.
Yes, some of them had personal problems, too, but they didn´t flaunt them. And dammit they were good.
Yes, this may be his least nasty movie. Lots of lovely, enjoyable moments. The narrator apologizes for romanticizing the past … That´s the problem with Allen: doesn´t he know we get it? And why would he apologize?
Question, please. When this great site was started months ago, the main topic of discussion was how badly the republicans/conservatives were handling "new medias". Claims were made that conservatism was falling behind because of their inability to communicate their ideas through these new communication portals.
Have republicans and or conservatives made a positive move to communicate better? Or are we making a comeback only because of the absolute stupidity and inflated egomania of the left?
I think the individual conservatives have always been doing, by and large, just peachy. It was the Republicans as a party that dropped and continue to drop the ball (and continue to lack them). My goodness, they have talk radio and they didn't lift a finger for that. They have Evangelical churches and they most certainly didn't do a thing to cause that (thanks, God). And they have so many great sites like this one. The Republicans must learn to stop snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. They only have themselves to blame for letting Bush set the stage for Obama. They forgot that for conservatives, it's not about the party (as it is for liberals). It's about principles.
Absolutely.
In my despair, I should have used the word "current" and/or "recent" black pop culture.
We will never see the likes of the great black Jazz men and women, plus all those great dancers again.
But I cant regard Jazz as pop culture and employ it in the same thought as rap or hiphop or trash comedians or mindless poppin' and locking dancers or break dancers of recent times.
Black pop culture has gone to Hell…..and now so has one of its most freakish 'leaders'.
No more National holidays on Saturdays!!!
Total rip-off.
Also – SUV and Ford 150 drivers – total a-holes!!
Maureen Dowd's column today: perfect example of liberal condescension and simple sarcastic bashing, instead of creative, insightful commentary.
"Some in my country have called you an 'evil empire.' I reject the divisive rhetoric of the past."
Yeah, I can see your point.
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/07/05/opinion/05dowd….
What intrigues me is that she didn't point out Obama's meglomania.
Strangely, M Dowd also said that Palin was leaving Alaska in the lurch. Did M Dowd's personal opinion of Palin change? Basically she insinuated that Palin leaving was a bad thing for Alaska. Hmmmm.
Could it be that she is afraid of Palin free of the encumbrance of governing Alaska?
Or apologize for not going to the Moscow games of 80.
*actually Carter should apologize to the atheletes who trained their guts out for those games.
My mom showed my a editorial cartoon in today's Courier Journal. It was a donkey, representing the democratic party. In the first panel, he said "Al Franken won!" Next panel said "A Filibuster proof majority". The thrid said "NO MORE EXCUSES!!!!". Then in the last panel, the donkey had a scared look in his face like "MY GOD WHAT HAVE I DONE".
I wished that was the case with the dems. Saddly, even though they got control over everything, they will still blame republicans when Obama's plans go south. I wished it was that they were smarting up to what THE ONE is doing, but they'll be lead to the primrose path.
Ms. Dowd, what it is? Is it that Mrs. Palin is a idiot who couldn't find her behind with both hands and a roadmap, or is she so vital that Alaska won't survive without her?
Which one? Can't be both.
History will re-evaluate Jimmy Carter.
I didn't think it was possible, but considering the groundwork laid in the past six months, he's now got a good chance of moving up to Second Worst President of All Time.
I might even up the ante and go beyond period nostalgia. Although I was a huge fan of Ben Hur, I honestly thing Godfather 1 & 2 are my favorite movies of all time. They never get old.
So…pretty much all you've got left is Hannah Montana and the Jonas Brothers? And hockey?
Dowd is just plain crazy mean, but in 'fairness' to her, she also excoriated Hilary Clinton many times during the campaign. I think she may just not like other woman in power.
Who did you like/follow before your Grand Shunning? And what caused the epiphany?
I don't think Diane Keaton was in this, was she? He had moved on to Mia Farrow.
So true! Excellent in story. I happened upon a few minutes of Allen's "work" awhile ago and to my recollection it was a period piece from his depression era youth. Ho-hum Woodie, Godfather has that beat three ways to Sunday ;^)!
Ben Hur! One of my husband's favorites and he totally converted me! Just saw it again recently!
Yep, she was singing in movie–and I think " for real."
OMG-too much reality!!!! Achhh… ;^)
Guess she didn't leave much of an impression on me! ;-D One thing that does, my old grade school english teacher is the father of the 'quiz kid' they meet at the zoo. I'm old enough to remember when the zoo looked like that–concrete pens in the days before animals got more 'natural' enclosures.
ha-ha! Allen-a legend in his own mind.
How 'bout the zoo? We brought the kids to the Columbus zoo when they were little and we didn't see one animal–nice!
( At least have a little truth in advertising, guys! We want our money back!!!!!!!!
After I read Maureen Dowd's little hit piece today, I thought who does this woman sound like?? Oh yea, Perez Hilton! I just hope the same thing happens to her, KARMA!
Got this question from a friend on Facebook: Today is Independence Day. In your mind, what are "5" things we as a country need to declare independence from here in 2009!
My answer
Hey. It's 6:55 am and you want me to think? Good question though. Independence from: 1) The atheist/anti-Christian agenda of the left; 2) Government hand-outs (aka redistribution); 3) The Left's desire to kill the 1st and 2nd Amendments (more gun laws, the "Fairness Doctrine," their made up "separation of church and state"); 4) The killing of the unborn; 5) Confiscatory tax rates. And I add a sixth. How about freedom from politicians? Just take the next year off — with pay! That way you won't keep voting on thousand page bills you haven't read that kill the economy and stifle the people.
Anyone else have a notion? Please respond.
"instead of "creative, insightful commentary"" ?
You will have to wait til h3LL freezes over to get that from Maureen Dowd.
I never read Maureen Dowd since I have no respect for her nor anything she might have to say, but I take it she trashed Palin. If so, good for you!
This movie has some of the greatest one-liners of all time. When Woody's Jewish uncle is angry at the Jewish neighbors for not properly respecting the Jewish high-holidays he says: "I'd go burn down their house but I'm not allowed to light matches today!"
Funny stuff. Oh, and Obama is ruining the country. Just wanted to throw that in.
I think that most of the current Republican politicians are worthless to the Party. They are the ones holding the Party back. Most of them are RINOS – I know the gals who represent my state are – and they constantly lament how the Party has left them. The conservatives are making points because of the extreme path of Nobama and the Dems. How our current Republican politicians can capitalize on that I do not know, since many of them are Dem-lite. The general populace will be looking for some conservative values by the time Nobama's re-election comes around and I'm not sure the current batch of Republicans can do it, ie the moderates like McCain and all the others who are going along with the bailouts, loss of capitalism, not reading the legislation being put forth by the Dems. I can tell you I'm not happy with the way McCain's people have treated Palin. The Party absolutely needs more strongly conservative, outspoken people like Palin to pull this off, and certainly less like McCain. The Republican Party has been muddied by the RINOS so we no longer have a clear message on ideals or in action. That's my opinion.
Would you celebrate the 4th of July on the 3rd or the 5th? What a doffus!
Loved the music.
Hey, hey, hey – don't put hockey in the same group as those kids.
The irony of your last sentence was that said "freakish leader" kept trying to be more and more white. Too bad he looked more like Skeletor when he died.
And by the way, I tried those jalapeno cheese dogs of yours the other day and they were fantastic…keep up the good work!!
Friday was the official holiday–so you should have taken your 3-day weekend by running out early Thursday like everyone else, my friend! ;D
Some of the greatest talents you can ever hope to see and hear are dead. The rest of the great is undiscovered b/c no one is looking for it and shows like those talent reality shows are a sham.
When I go to hear live music now, it is usually not 'name' talent, just talent.
Who's Pearl Harbor? (LOL)
I listened mostly to older Jazz styles where black talent was incredible. I luxuriated in their brilliance and genius. Same for the white artists, too.
There's always been bad music, but b/c of the requirement to record music and preserve, there was a level to whbich music usully did not drop below.
As it became easier and easiet to record, preserve and distribute, the access to doing so gave even the least marginally talented people a pathway to public acknowledgement.
Now – any jackass can have his/her music presented before the publi8c….and b/c the public now has so little education in even basic music fundimentals, they accept the most simple minded trash you could imagine. 90 percent of today's biggest artists would have been booed off the stage 50 years ago. Now they are hailed as gods and goddesses.
I'm done with it. Black vile clowns, white trash clowns, tarty strumpets and whores, boy bands, etc. Adored by stupid people and non-stupid people who don't kniow any better…or any better music.
There's nothing wrong with lightweight pop tunes like the pap Britanny Spears churns out, but it ain;t for me. Miley Cyrus cant sing to save her life. All she is is a cherry waiting to be popped to attract an entire new audience.
There was no epithany, but the breaking point was this mindless adulation of Michael Jacksumoff the drug addict, pervert, child molester, freak.
Tuesday should be a riot. "MolestaPalooza" as the guy on KFI said.
Can't post it seems.
My company was open for business and will be Monday, too.
It's "Independance Day". It can be celebrated on any day we wish.
yes
OH THAT IS GREAT!! I'd add Czars, both foreign and domestic. Other than that, you nailed it!
Um…the declaration of Independence was SIGNED on the 4th of July in 1776 hence the holiday on the 4th of July since. What is the problem here? Take a sick day the Friday before.
In order to have the epiphany and say "My God what have I done" one must believe in God. I think that A LOT of mainstream dems are having there epiphanies. Poll numbers are slipping. One must have hope! AND NOT THE HOPEY CHANGEY KINDA HOPE EITHER!
…just had to make sure my position was known.
Yeah – I knew the history and grasped the subtlety that you hammered away at. Your boss at the pet store must be more lenient than mine.
That was subtle, hot dog. It was also very polite. You however are a gradeschool twit incapable of grasping the concept of the signifigance of days set aside for honor or respect because those two things do not live in you. Your response is evidence of that. I wish you nothing but blessings, sir madame whatever. I know the frustration of having to work on holidays. I've done it before and no my watch commander wasn't very lenient. The difference between you and me is that I realize that one can't always get one's way in this life. You can't stay a child forever. Life is hard. Jesus makes it easier to handle. Grow up, grow in God. Be blessed.
I´m not an expert – grew up with 70s rock and that will always be my home – but I listen to some jazz, swing and the great soul singers of the 1960s and 1970s. They were musicians and artists. They could write, arrange, sing, improvise and they worked hard on their art. Whatever you call black pop music today, it´s not "soul". Exceptions prove the rule.
I think Michael Jackson had the talent but after a while it was somehow blocked up and squandered. It´s never a good sign when every album takes 4-5 years and costs millions to produce.
Don´t take it personal. I think he is a contrarian. Any great Republic must have a number of them.
Hey El Gordo, I don't take anything personally…
. I'm an actress. People saying hateful things about you is pretty much a norm. I am, however, having difficulty dealing with stupidity and ignorance. I just wish the current crop of contrarians would be a little more informed before they shoot off their mouths. It would make debate much more enlightening.
What gave you that romantic idea? A guy like Putin never wants for more or better enemies.
Putin is a smart strategist. Where he comes from, it´s a matter of survival. Not every KGB functionary becomes leader of a violently corrupt superpower. Putin is also a stone cold killer.
Obama? A Chicago rabble rouser with a great voice and delusions of grandeur. That´s good enough to make clueless Americans swoon. But Obama never got smashed in the mouth (literally or figuratively). No, Putin must be happy to have such a guy sitting across from him.
I agree with you but this one is one of the very few that is very good. You really get a feel for what the time period was like.
The main problem is that a huge percentage of the electorate will hear the Lapdog Media blame the Republicans and believe that they somehow are responsible.
I think Vladimir Putin is longing for the days when he had a real United States president, a real capitalist president, to spar with. Deep down, I bet he has more affection for the USA than Obama does.
No, what you really are is an overwriter who thinks she is a wordsmith and psychologist, but is neither.
Go act.
He sure loved lecturing Obama on the cold war for the first hour of their meeting this morning. Major Garrett on Fox said that he was told Obama didn't get to say a word, but had to just sit there and listen to what the cold war was REALLY about for an entire hour. I love the idea of Obama being schooled by Putin. That cracks me up. Putin knows he's got a smart-mouthed, idealogical, and unrealistic star child on his hands.
Really? That must have been some scene. Though from what we know about Obama, he probably agreed with Putin´s version of the Cold War. You remember what he said after Danny Ortega of Nicarague had attacked the US for about 50 minutes: "I'm grateful that President Ortega did not blame me for the things that occurred when I was three months old." Some way to stand up for the country he represents.
Now, now. What´s all this, then!?
