As Karnac the Magnificent might opine: "the answer is — the quick and the dead." . . . .and the question is "how would you describe a meeting of sprinter Carl Lewis and communist manifesto author Karl Marx?
Seriously, Gene Hackman is one of my all time favorite actors. Sharon Stone . . . not so much.
Ugh, Sharon Stone. Blech..
I remember liking this movie when I watched it with the kids. Its kinda of a fun ride. Sharon is required "cow girl" and she wears the long coat that all the preppies brought back from Vail at that time.
THIS……is the movie that launched my fifteen-year crush on Russell Crowe!
There's a Stateside-version, and then there's the real international-version!!!
He is still so frikkin' hott!!!!
Sharon Stone was better when she was Charles Bronson and the movie was "Once Upon A Time In The West."
Awww, Sharon Stone wasn't THAT bad. She did okay. This just seems like a movie everyone had fun making, and I have fun watching. DiCaprio as the kid still cracks me up.
Cheers, Frank
Given the easily verifiable facts in this article: http://www.csmonitor.com/2009/0702/p09s03-coop.ht... (I was able to read the Honduran Constitution via an online Spanish->English translator) and given how clear and specific the text is, why is anyone calling what happened in Honduras a "coup"? If there was any "coup" going on there, it was what Zelaya was trying to do, which the Honduran Constitution clearly, explicitly, and unequivocally prohibits and specifies the consequences of precisely to stop the sort of power grab he was trying to pull. The people who wrote the Honduran Constitution were quite smart and anticipated power grabs like this and, it seems, implemented a pretty effective way to stop them.
Q and D, a reel snorer, one of the worst movies EVER!!!
Because they, unlike you, don't read. And it might make their little-g god Obama look bad for siding with communist dictators (like he'd side with anyone else).
Thanks for that link.
Come to think of i. You've read a foreign country's constitution and most of the talking heads don't even understand or have read ours!

Excellent advise for all conservatives is to read the entire US Constitution. It says things that a lot of people don't seem to know about and doesn't say some things that many people assume it says. An excellent reading assignment for this July 4th is to read the Declaration of Independence (which states the moral case for America's independence) and the US Constitution.
I've been visiting BigHollywood for about 2-3 months now and I have yet to see a movie that's been listed on Open Thread Friday…oh wait, except King Kong. That was on here before, right? Haha!
Our current prez WANTs Zelaya's precedent established… so that when he does it all can point and say 'see it's OK'
don't be manic about it though, Otter.
Yeah, it makes me feel like I don't get out much when I see so many of these movie promo posters and I think " (insert actor here) was in that movie? really?"
Hackman is a true artist…Stone sells skin. Will the next beacon of freedom please stand up. We could use a little reminder of how great this nation really is. How we are bursting with potential. How we can fuel our own future with both the old way and the new way and the earth will do what it has always done. How we need to teach our young that anything is possible if you don't know it can't be done. How life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness means anyone can succeed. How we are the champions and the president and government work for us…work for us. We could use a little backbone now, a little courage, and a little in your face NO! This is America baby!
I liked that movie the first time around, but not so much when I saw it again.
These were just shot out at the Paramount Ranch in Malibu:

The Paramount Ranch is like an abandoned factory from a bygone era where entertainment was once created with classic, Western ideals.
Aristotle stated that story tells of "the way things ought to be." Well, today's Reality TV has forgotten this. And Aristotle added, "When storytelling declines, the result is decadence."

best
I saw this movie and thought it was very entertaining. It was no way near as good as 'Once Upon A Time In The West' or 'The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly', but it was watchable good.
And since it is open thread, I'd like to say a few words in parting to our old friend the incandescent light bulb. You were great. I'll miss you. May the people who killed you be despised forever.
I'm avid role-player (of the "Dungeons and Dragons" vein, for those of you who wish to go grab pitchforks and torches). Movies like "The Quick and the Dead" are perfect for a guy like me and my group of friends. The movie may not be perfect, but it's easy to pick out and enjoy the one-liners and small moments of awesome that end up transferring over to our twice-monthly weekend games.
Absolutely. Sharon Stone as a tough gunfighter? Ugh. It's just sad to see Gene Hackman, Russell Crowe, and Gary Sinise wasted in this very silly movie.
Could we possibly adopt this title as it relates to Leftist trolls who crawl out from under their rocks and leave their collective slime at Big Hollywood? Q and D?
Just observed one over at S.T. Karnick's tribute to Karl Malden. I did notice administration has since sent *it* off to the land of Q and D.
Nice.
ImChiquita – I must profess Russell Crowe is one of my favorite actors, but would be less than honest if I also state I personally don't find him "so frikkin' hot." Still, I will defend to the death your right to feel that way.
p.s. I'm just kidding with you, it just seems like that kind of a day. Crowe is great!
very, very nice Patricus; very nice.
I don't see very many "leftist trolls" around here – and perhaps it is because of this:
"Your comment must be approved by the site admins before it will appear publicly."
followed by never seeing it get posted. Makes it easy for you to do your insults without contention. Great site you got here.
Yeah, it is a great site now that you mention it. Hope we can keep it that way…as I mentioned there was a nasty odor this morning over at the Malden tribute however a sweet cool breeze prevailed once administration sent the little turd off to the land of Q and D.
I don't mind her as an actress, I just can't stand her as a person.
Don't feel bad, this one is the first one for me.
I actually thought the movie stunk to high heaven but what do I know.
I wonder if your rating has anything to do with it?
Awwww, thank you!!
Kid away. Kid away.
I'll defend to the death your right to feel that way about…..(Name Hot Actress Here).
Looks like Palin's stepping down as governor…also know as resigning. WTF?? Interesting timing…news dump Friday of a holiday weekend.
Open thread's are famous for this…
I was floored when I just saw that she stepped down…. they are thinking that she is clearing her schedule for a 2010 Presidental run!
I think you mean 2012. But to resign before her term is up? Why not just finish it out? It feels weird. People resign before they get indicted for something.
I just got slammed with the staggering news that Palin is stepping down as Governor of Alaska before the end of this month – she won't run for re-election next year. First off – this hit me between the eyes like a load of bricks. My first panicky thought was that she was doing this to get out of politics altogether – NO one has endured the vicious attacks to the degree and depth that she has. My second thought – after I breathed a few moments into a paper back and held my head between my legs – was that she now has removed impediments for her to be what she wants to be. And I hope and pray – please, God – that what she wants is to run for President in 2012. GO SARAH!!
It doesn't look good to quit before your term is over. NOW her kids need her? I think there's an indictment of some sort down the pipeline…also fishy that they did it on a holiday Friday, a traditional "news dump" when you hope people will forget by Monday.
Sarah Palin is ending her political career. Whatever her reasons – and I am strongly assuming there is no scandal – she cannot run for President if she does not serve out her first term as governor. Very sad. My blind guess is, the 500K debt caused by frivolous ethics suits and the constant vilification drove her out.
We get the politicans we deserve.
Neither can I, but I'm learning to separate the actor chops from the person side. Sharon is certainly not a great or even a good actress, but this wasn't one of her worst performances. Other than the obvious Basic Instinct 2, there, Diabolique, Sliver, and of course Catwoman, where they all mailed it in.
PS, go 'former' Gov. Sarah! Not sure if resigning now is best move, you could just have said you would not run for reelection. But it sure looks like she's aligning her ducks, moose, whatever for 2012.
Sorry, but no. Once she is out of office, there is no way back. Two years as governor and what is she going to do from now until 2012 that qualifies her for a run? No, she is getting out for good.
Hell with the movie Can we talk about the Washington Post lobbist get togeather.
I'm so sad it was cancelled I was hoping to bribe some high Obama officials, congessmen, and newspaper reporters with large envelopes stuffed with cash all conveinently at one location and now I'll have to go to their individual offices with my bribes, what a hassle.
This is how all great Democracies operate you know.
(This is so off topic but I LOVE your icon–THIIIIRTEEEEN!)
I'm startled by Palin's decision tho…the woman's a hunter. I can't imagine that a few dweebs with microphones in her face can phase her. I have to go with the indictment theory.

Thanks. Rome a was brilliant and Ray Stevenson is such a charismatic good looking guy. Unfortunately the name El Gordo is closer to reality than the icon…

Which "indictment"? You have any source for that? I think you are talking out of your rear end.
Well, just take a few more rounds in the arena!
Yes, the show was incredible. It had me from the first bus ad. Wish they hadn't cut it short.
Too bad, really. It could have gone on. So many great dramatic moments of the kind movies don´t do anymore.
This is the only show I remember where every episode had its own dedicated end credits music.
Sarah Palin resigns. Is there a John Zieglar suicide watch yet?
ummm sorry 2012… thanks for correcting me… I was in a haste typing!!!!LOL
OK, that's funny! More likely, it'll just launch his NEW new film, "How the Evil Media Made Palin Resign." He'll be arrested soon at a venue near you!
My rear end has nothing to do with it, buddy! Did you see her press conference? Did you find it remotely inspiring? It was vague and rambling. She's not declining a new term, she's QUITTING in the middle of her term. Why? It's getting too hard? It stinks to me. The only reason I can think that makes sense is a big ol' hammer's about to come down on her from somewhere. An indictment is the logical conclusion.
One can only hope.
Last night, I had the chance to take a look at what's coming down the pipeline from the Hollywood Regurgitron. With the exception of Harry Potter and the Umpeenth Sequel, It's pretty much downhill from here to the rest of the year. Time to bone up on the classic films. The Academy will be hard pressed to find 5 good movies to nominate this year, let alone 10.
Speaking of Westerns, check out the "Ideas Have Consequences" Gold 45 Revolver video game patent:

Imagine how many millions would want to play such novel game types wherein *ideas had consequences*, and soul, character, and honor mattered! Litertaure including 1984, Animal Farm, A Brave New World, V is for Vendetta, The Matrix, Twilight, Atlas Shrugged, Dracula, and 300 could all be brought to life on a more profound level! As well as the American Revolution!
Happy 4th!

Yep, after all it would be international precedent, and doesn't that trump our silly little Constitution? Sotomayor will certainly say so.
Joconde, I recommend you listen to the "you tube" version, the whole 12 minute 5 second statement. Palin iterates EXACTLY why she is stepping down. I'm sorry you don't "get" her speech syntax, but do give it a try. She is just what this country needed, not B. Obama, not J. McCain, we need her and her clear thinking, because millions of people reason just like her (hence, her appeal); we'd be in much better shape now than we are, thanks to Obama's inexperience and cluelessness.
The worst thing you can do to stay informed is listen to the soundbites of the mainstream media, because they are soooooo wrong, and mean-spirited, and do the groupthink thing inside their little box.
As I commented elsewhere, she is (probably) clearing her calendar of all the minutiae, including the constant pestering by the opposition, so she can concentrate on prepping for 2012.
Time to dig out some classic novels and let the telly rest.
I watched it live, in full, when it happened. I'm sorry, it came off as vague. Has any other pol ever quit their current term and then gone on to win major office? How will she get the big GOP money support now? She's handed her every opponent a golden attack line–"she quit as governor…can we trust her as president?" It's a looong time until 2012, or even 2011 when campaigning starts in earnest. Quitting does not inspire confidence.
As read on Seraphic Secret website:
Question: "What's the difference between a prostitute and the Washington Post?
Answer: Nothing
No, prostitutes have more principles.
In other words, you have not the slightest knowledge of any indictment. You are just being hysterical. Which was my point.
Why would a NORMAL person not quit after what she has been put through, including several 100K of legal debt due to fraudulent ethics complaints, all of which were thrown out. Could you take it? Thanks to the sick culture we have created, politics will attract fewer and fewer normal people, aka citizens.
"National office will dwindle down to the unhealthily singleminded (Clinton, Obama), the timeserving emirs of Incumbistan (Biden, McCain) and dynastic heirs (Bush). Our loss" (Mark Steyn)
No thanks to you.
Getting the heck out of the political limelight, and prepping for the serious business to come, has got to be the right move. By the way I hope to see her and Romney on the ticket, in either order.
As for Sharon Stone, she counts for nothing but a piece of flesh served cold.
Yeah, but quitting…sucks. It doesn't speak to character. How on earth would she withstand the scrutiny of running for president? For a woman of strong will and huge popularity, it smacks of something much more than just media weariness. And seriously, when was the last time politics attracted normal people?
fear not young CobiWann, you are not the only RPG player here.
And yes, I enjoyed this movie too. Another of Sam Rami's early works.
