In 1998, the Beastie Boys announced the arrival of a new album with the release of “Intergalactic,” which in my opinion, is their biggest and best single to date. It’s certainly their most accessible single, mainstream but with a sound that’s undeniably Beastie. The accompanying video, masterfully directed...

Bloated, indulgent (Tom Cruise AND Kevin Spacey?) and not 10% as funny or creative as the first movie.
Beyonce? please . . Lemme upgrade yah
I love all the AP movies, though Dr. Evil's speech about his childhood in the first one is about the funniest thing I've heard not in a Marx Bros. or Mel Brooks movie.
They should have stopped after the first one. The next two were just repetitive.
I would rather hear from people who have lexus nexus or other resources to credibly compare media treatment of the Sanford affair with the John Edwards affair
Bill Mays died. That honestly makes me sad.
Because this is an open thread, I want to tell everybody that they need to read the article posted by our own AndrewPrice over at their blog: http://commentarama.blogspot.com/ His explanation of cap and trade and why it's bad is so much better than anything I've heard anywhere else.
Yahoo has had the Sanford thing on their front page since it happened. I don't remember this much coverage of Edwards at all.
I visit Commentarama all the time. Somebody should hire them to write full time.
I guess Micheal Jackson's wish was to have someone sell his story to God.
Ok, that was funny. Very sad for his family, but I gotta say–I couldn't hit mute fast enough when Mays started selling stuff.
Ah, Goldmember. The shadow-casting scene alone is worth the price of a rental.
Didn't you tell a joke the other day that finished with. . . "nobody knows what Jackson asked for?" If so, this is actually a brilliant ending to that joke. Sad, but brilliant.
I think it's interesting that two 50 year old celebrities died within days of each other. If was 50 and a celebrity, I would be scared right now.
Here is a repost.
I stole part of this from someone, here on BH. I forget their moniker.____Ed McMahon went to heaven and was granted one wish, he wished for a beautiful woman to be by his side. Farrah Fawcet was then sent to heaven and her wish was that all children of the world be made safe. So far no one there has heard from Michael Jackson.
Mark Sanford's head must be so far up his own nether regions that he can see his back teeth from below. As putative Republicans both he and Senator Ensign should have realized that they have absolutely no wiggle room when it comes to their personal lives. They deserve all the abuse they are getting both for betraying their families and for having the hubris to think that they could get away with it. Democrats handle these things better. When any of theirs (not named Kennedy) is caught with his pants down they politically whack them without hesitation, sympathy or remorse.
NYP is reporting that there is a sex tape of them. That's not l/n, but it's darn funny if true. And gross.
That's the one!! Now you have an ending! Brilliant!
Which leads me to an obvious question. Who in the hell is going to market the Samuri Shark?
Still can't get over the eating of the dried skin…
True, he should've stopped after the first two.
The saddest thing about Goldmember is that it came out just a few months earlier than Pierce Brosnan’s Die Another Day fiasco. Myers’ movie certainly has its problems but the Bond franchise had slipped so far into absurdity that it was actually a better spy movie than Die Another Day! At least we weren’t supposed to take Goldmember seriously so it didn’t fall totally on its face like Brosnan’s last. I agree with an earlier poster that GM was very self-indulgent, but the pre-title Cruise/Spacey stunt sequence is actually better than anything they put together for DAD. Instead of stuntmen skydiving into cars, we got a little cartoon Bonds surfing around in a video game outtake. The fact that both films (accidentally?) went with black female leads points up even more how the Bond outing was more foolish than an ostensible parody of it. Beyonce doesn’t have great acting chops, but at least she had a lot of fun with it and was fun to watch. Berry took everything all so tough and serious and “Yo’ mamma” and made a total fool of herself.
I'm probably going to get hammered for bringing up Michael Jackson, but my point is larger and I think of the open thread as, in part, a suggestion box. Please forgive me.
Out of the many posts on Michael Jackson since his death on Thursday, it would have been nice to have read just one that focused on his music. There are plenty of other posts for talking about the allegations, the drugs, his tough childhood, and so on. Just one on his music would have been nice.
Is there a music critic out there you guys could find to write for you on such occasions? There really should have been at least one art-centric post amongst all the cultural-centric and personality-centric pieces.
(I've long suspected Kurt Loder of being a closet conservative, but I think he's got another gig even if I'm right.)
Perhaps but Hallie Berry emerging from the surf made the rest of that flick worth it for me, kind of like her sunbathing scene in that weird Travolta flick, I forget the name of it.
You sir are worse than Hitler.
I liked all three and I think they all had great moments. But over all, the second one and really the third one were just more of the same.
But that is usually the fate of sequels — to rehash the original to squeeze more money out of the property. That's why I have so much respect for the few sequels that have actually moved beyond the original.
P.S. Gordon, I've been reading your record reviews and I like them a lot. I am particularly impressed when I compare them to the garbage that passes for reviews on places like Yahoo. "Dude, it was cool, but the band is like so old." Yeah, nice work.
Thanks guys. There'll be a little something special in this week's paycheck for ya!
One of the stupidest tenets of the new religion of Green is that wind farms are good for the environment. How does anyone know that? Wind farms take energy out of the atmosphere. What effect will wind farms have on climate?
Have any of the people behind that so called Clean Energy Bill, which passed the House of Representatives yesterday, given that question any consideration? No. And they won't because they are not scientists or even intellectuals. They are exactly what they look and sound like: a bunch of clowns.
Thanks for dropping by! To give credit where due, my co-blogger Jason has written more than his fair share of recent reviews. I like our template in general, but the names at the bottom of the pieces are really small and I can't find a way to change that.
Sorry, can't help you there. My HTML is about as good as my Swahili.
And since I forgot to include the link in my prior post, here it is: http://ondeafears.com/
I'm actually surprised that the bond franchise was dead after Die Another Day. It made a huge chunk of change. I didn't think it was a great bond film, but it was decent enough. I think it could have been really good if they had made it less of a sci-fi film and more of a spy/bond film.
Goldmember was a disappointment.
Andrew: These guys are great, but the problem is we're paying them so much that we're running out of money for the site!
TaxPayingChump: Would you settle for us just making you the head of the publicity department? THANKS.
Gordon: I know what you mean. I write all the good stuff, then in the middle of the night, Andrew sneaks in and changes my by-line. Never trust those lawyers.
You're paying TCP? I'm not getting paid! Or someone is stealing the checks from my mailbox. It's hard living under a bridge.
Isn't it about time that somebody cashed in on this whole thing and wrote a song entitled: "You, sir, are worse than Hitler?" Words by Greg Gutfeld, sung by XXXXXXXXXX. And just to liven things up, you could have a mainstream version, and a rap version just so we could have another big dust-up here at BH!
You could mix it with the Christian Bale song.
I just cannot get my mind off the amount of media coverage this man has received, almost Messiah like. Do not get me worng he was a talented man, his coreography his songs and so on. But the man was a PEDOPHILE…. you had a great man like Ed McMahon and then Farrah that passed around the same time and they got pushed to the side by the media for Michael Jackson???? whatever!!!
They are still fawning over him and now there are stories about his kids not being his? HOW LONG IS THIS GOING TO GO ON FOR????? PLEASE STOP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Is that Swordfish you're thinking of? Yet, another Travolta movie where he chews the scenery as the bad guy.
Re: Wind Farms — and what are we going to do with all the chopped birds?
I'm not going to prove myself insane by denying that Halle Berry is an extremely attractive woman, but that take of her coming out of the water actually made me laugh out loud. I remember sitting in the theater, watching her rise up, noting the much ballyhooed Dr. No reference and then seeing her let loose with these big yawns! “Oh, aren’t I precious? We awkward tiny pixie-cutted Revlon models get all tuckered out pretending to be mean spies!” From that moment on the movie was dead to me.
Just go ahead and give mine straight to Obama.
Wow did you hit the right button with that one………
Democrats are calling for Sanford's head on a platter. Meanwhile hear in Illinois, it was announced that no actions will be taken by Illinois legislators against Roland Burris for being a lieing POS. Rumor has it that he is going to be allowed to run for the seat again! What?
Then there's Rod………… He robbed this state blind, and the MSM played it off as a "Carnival Sideshow".
MSM Reporter…….Oh Look, isn't that Blago kid strange. Yea, but he's harmeless. Let's just have a good laugh and move on, nothing to see here…
With Sanford………..
MSM Reporter…….Sanford is an evil vile despicable man who deserves to burn at the stake. Let's ruin his entire families life. Yea that's the ticket…………..
We need a new word to describe the MSM because "Hypocrisy" just doesn't cut it anymore!
Sorry, but these sub human reporters really get to me…………………
That's Bullsh**!
I guess that's why Bawney Fwank is still there after having a gay escort service run out of his D.C. Townhouse. Democrats have no morals. None! Sure, Kennedy got a pass for playing a part in Mary Jo Kopechne's death, but his old and feeble condition of today won't save him from his final judgement tomorrow.
Unless people wake up, ignore the shills in the communist press, and vote the democrats out of power in 2010 and 2112, this country, under the man-child and fool Obama, is doomed.
Birds are smart enough to adapt, but consider this:
Rain requires airlift and moisture to happen. What happens to airlift if megawatts of energy are being taken out of the air? What happens if wind farms reduce rainfall averages?
I think what happens is that the Greenies will blame Global Warming and demand that more wind farms be constructed. By the time they figure it out, the world will be in the midst of a man made drought induced famine.
As long as the wind farms aren't located near Martha's Vineyard. There are a bunch of hypocrites out there who can't take that.
Funny, Obama said the same thing.
StlDan
I'm gonna go out on limb here, but I get the impression by all your post's about "the gloved one" that you weren't a big fan? Not so much here either……..
Wonder if Jackson will be able to do the moon walk in lava?
Nobody would be so crass to pretend either of these ladies was hired for her acting chops. As you pointed out with Beyonce though, Halle also is fun to watch. One of her great acting moments; the scene where she is stripping down in swordfish. dumb movie–great shot portraying exactly what the director wanted it to.
You've accidentally caused "Springtime for Hitler" to be stuck in my head. I mention that so that it will be stuck in your head, too. Vengeance is mine.
Also enjoy your blog (http://commentarama.blogspot.com). As to the hijacking of your brilliant writing by Andrew–I suspected as much.
jshub
Sorry, but your wrong! Read my post above. While infidelity is not the problem in my state. Absolute corruption is. The Democrats have completely whitewashed Blago, Burris and now Durbin. They do not, I repeat, do not, "cull the heard" in the Democratic party, they simply point to other bad behavior to deflect the attention.
I have to hand it to the Dem's though they are absolute masters at doing this………
Thanks Gordon. And for the record, it's not easy to change the name on Lawhawk's posts.
By the way, I completely agree with your comment that BH needs a music reviewer. Why not fan out into every aspect of cutlure?
Gordon Winslow
Wow! That's funny, but you have to watch the collateral damage with your posts! I was just an innocent bystander and now I'm humming "Springtime for Hitler". Ouch! I'll have to listen to some ABBA or something to get that out of my head……LOL
Agreed the first is the absolute best. Couldn't stand the note-for-note, beat-for-beat second one (except for the introduction of Mini-Me), but really dig the third. I'm sure Michael Caine has a lot to do with that, too.
Lo-fat salad. Good for you!
McNuggets!
I don't need the media to tell me both men are scumbags.
You're safe on that limb, Primer. Maybe he can Moonwalk with iceskates?
Well, we know he would not lie, right?
You don't have to give me anything extra except what you have to Say. Great stuff. Keep punching Brother.
Pondering this issue for a while. If Obama gets his way on all matters socialist for the next 1301 days, 16 hours and 10 mins, will we ever recover to pre-Obama America? Trying to think the Republicans can help, but with 8 of them voting in favor of the energy fiasco, the moderates supporting many of his programs, I'm not sure. Are we seriously in the decline of the US of A?
jackinmaine- You took the nagging questions right out of my thinking cap. Even if we win back both houses and the presidency, will the Republicans have what it takes to reverse many of the policies that he manages to push through? I'm not convinced at all that they will. But at least they could stem the tide of any bad, new legislation. (We hope).
Thanks MegaTroll for the heads up, I checked it out and Andrew knocked it out of the park! I have bookmarked the page and now I've got somewhere else to go…like I needed that!
Good work Andrew…I was not surprised.
According to the First Law of Thermodynamics, energy cannot not be created nor destroyed. By removing it from the wind the resulting air will have less. That means downwind of the air turbines, temperatures will be lower.
That is a very interesting point that I've never seen raised.
You're right. That could be significant…. and also that no one is paying attention to those little details.
In a couple of weeks there will be no doubt a plethora of accolades for Public Enemies. I have no idea whether it will be a good film or not. I do know that it will generate a lot of attention here.
I don't begrudge Depp his money or fame. He earned it — it's his. But I won't be adding any of my dollars to his paycheck.
I must raise an objection to this fascination with 'gangland' activity.
It's not just Public Enemies, but also The Sopranos, The Godfather films, Good Fellas and other movies that seemingly glorify organized crime. Bad people did bad things, but years later people make big bucks portraying bad people doing bad, but it's no longer bad?
What is it? The clothes? The hats? The shoes? The respect? (Hmmm… respect earned or given by fear?)
Just the same. for all the 'law and order' people that post here it seems odd that the same can hail so much praise on an obvious bad guy.
I liked Goldmember but not as much as the first two AP films. I remember seeing the first one in the theater, before everyone and his brother was saying, "Yeah, baby!" on TV. I enjoyed being part of the "cult."
As for Goldmember, all I'll say is I went to see it with an attractive co-worker. If I had played my cards differently that night, I would be a totally different man today. (read: nothing happened)
Alvaro, thank you so much. I'm glad you enjoyed it! Please feel free to drop by any time!
Also, we wanted to link to your website, but the only link I could find (here at BH) did not work. Do you have a current website? And if so, what is the link?
Thanks ALLAMERICAN! You keep punching too man! Someday enough people will see what these guys are up to and America will set itself right again!
So he said. . . but he could have been lying.
Like my Jewish Brothers and Sisters say, From Your Mouth To God's Ears. Later Pal.
Well, Dillinger does pay the ultimate price for his crimes–gunned down in the street isn't a fate intelligent people aspire to. And a lot of people at the time (surely a more "law and order" era in American history) admired him. I think there's always been a vicarious thrill in seeing people behave badly, especially when stylishly dressed. (You left Pacino's "Scarface" off your list, a movie that has literally influence every rapper since the movie came out) Westerns and pirate flicks have softened the image of guys who were pretty rank and murderous in real life. I get what you're saying, and it has to be harder for people with kids to. However, having said that, I'll be subsidizing his next island purchase.
Gordon: Thanks for noticing the true brilliance behind Andrew's alleged writing. LOL He's getting rave reviews for his cap and trade ("duck and cover") article today. He wrote that one himself. And thanks a lot for planting "Springtime for HItler" in my head. It's catchier than a TV commercial jingle.
Were his lips moving?
Forgive me, everyone, for being the last person in the whole wide world to figure this out, but if Michael Jackson was the father of his kids, wouldn't they be sort of black?
As my Hebraic Brothers and Sisters say From Your Mouth To God's Ears. Later Pal
Andrew: I've spent all day trying to figure out how to take credit for that column, but I came up dry. You did a real number on the greatest scam in American governmental history. Cap and trade this!
Alvaro: Ditto on Andrew's comment. Please make sure we can link to your site.
Ha! A comic by the name of Katt Williams pointed that one out in one of his specials (I believe it was Pimp Chronicles Part 1). I totally agree. All his surgery (or whatever turned his skin white) wouldn't have changed his genetics at all, now would it.
LOL!
Didn't it begin way back with "Bonnie and Clyde"?
just testing – mystified by tech glitch not letting me post intended comments – "connection error" — huh?
It's too bad the AP flicks ran out of steam as the franchise went on. They all show a sketch-writer's mentality; just a string of small simple momentary gags; lacking enough big scale ideas/plot structure to make a 90 minute film really rewarding (rather than a mildly pleasant distraction). The concept had great potential. Too bad the humor was mostly so infantile. At least all 3 films have an underlying genuinely sweet sensibility, unlike so much of popular comedy in recent years. Great new songs on soundtrack of 1st AP film.
Yup, Halle Berry was so out of her league (culture, class, sophistication) among the Brits in that Bond film,
it was sadly funny – as in cringe-inducing… (seemed like she was about to say 'Let's go get pizza at the mall'.)
I want to second the point made by Mumbledy Peg:
Movies & TV shows which admire criminals (whether or not the show pretends otherwise) are repellant to me — especially when the criminals are so thuggish and complacently ignorant and uncultured (The Sopranos, or anything by Tarantino). It's depressing to see so many good people (everywhere I look) happily thrilling to the rotten actions of all these criminals on the screen.
Perhaps the popularity of such material is related to the prevalence of living vicariously through a favorite sports team. It seems to be a sad indication that something primal is missing from that fan's life, and he/she has no hope of ever fulfilling that need directly and genuinely through living his/her life more effectively, daringly, etc.
Thanks Goldentrout for taking a little off my mind. As much as I try, I can't get myself psyched up about most of the currently sitting Republicans. Now Obama is siding with Chavez and Castro regarding world affairs, which doesn't surprise me at all, and actually is what I envisioned from him. It gets worse every day. I don't see much of a spine in the GOP. I wish we had folks with the guts and conviction of Palin, Hannity, Beck and yes Rush, in DC shaking things up. If we have to go down, darn it, can't we go down fighting?? Other than a small hand full of real Republicans, I can't see the GOP fighting to save America from the present course it's headed.
I wish we could get into their heads a little. At best, I suspect they're fearful to poke their heads out and say something statesman-like, for fear of getting smacked back down by the MSM (the angry white male rap). And at worst, they're actually buying into a lot of this liberal garbage themselves, and aren't mounting much of a protest. Either scenario stinks to high heaven. But I agree, we need them to come out swinging like the Duke, and bust some liberal jaws (legslatively speaking).
