Conservatives often talk about what they don’t like about Hollywood. That’s okay, but it’s not productive. Maybe it’s time we talked about what we do like? More to the point, let’s point out when Hollywood has gotten it right. And that brings me to the...

This does not pertain to the poster above, but is anyone elses reply notifier working?
Mine seems to have died about the time the intense debate scores went up.
The suscribe to box below is on replies, but nothing seems to work. Any thoughts?
Mine hasn't worked for awhile either. Intense Debate has got some issues.
Intense debate locks up when I try to reply from home about 25% of the time. Often I'll just give up and log off.
On the "Ox-Bow Incident" theme. An allegory regarding the lynching mentality of the leftwing media towards the right in the aftermath of the James Von Brunn shooting in the Holocaust Museum?
Can anyone answer this movie question? I was watching old movies over the weekend and saw two great ones. One was "Great Ball of Fire" with Gary Cooper, from 1941. The other was "A Song is Born" starring Danny Kaye. It couldn't be my imagination, but the two movies were identical – down to the set and the folks in the movies. Can anyone tell me if A Song is Born was billed as a remake of Great Ball of Fire? If not, I can't believe there wasn't a copyrite lawsuit back in the 50's.
Ox-Bow Incident is one of my three favorite westerns, along with Shane and High Noon. Nice and short, packs a big punch. Jane Darwell has a small part, and she plays it to the hilt.
Mine hasn't worked since they added that little drop down menu with the choice for replies or all new comments.
They "fixed" what wasn't broke so now it's broke.
Shane and high noon are Great classics..I remember reading the Ox-Bow incident but I don't think I've ever seen it, it might be time.
I use to be a HUGE western fan but as I got older most of them just came across as cliche..Of course NOT the ones with John Wayne in them.
We need John Wayne right now!
Yes, it is a remake: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Song_Is_Born
Incidentally, BOTH are written by Billy Wilder and directed by Howard Hawks. Same writer, same director, so no copyright infringement!
The 1941 original was "Ball of Fire". The Hollywood tradition of making inferior remakes goes way back.
No mine hasn't worked for a good while. This all looks like it's Javascript run and JS is notoriously fickle.
Completely unrelated but can we make a group decision here that we will refer to guvment' run healthcare as the Federal Universal Coverage Department (FUCD for short). Can we make that official?
Well, we need a John Wayne type of person but remember John Wayne was only an actor.
or replace Department with Agency?
Oh it's FUCD alright so it has my endorsement.
So was Reagan but he did all right for himself.
Think about the fun we can have with this terminology. I can see the headline once it passes "Healthcare Gets FUCD". It'll be good stuff. By the way I don't know that we can stop this so you might want to start scheduling appointments now to be sure you can get in to see a doctor in a year or two.
we concur as well…
You beat me to it.
Don't worry, kids. Obama's gonna start a new one called the Department of Agency. A beuracrat's orgasm. Miles of red tape and all about nothing. Jimmy Carter is going to be the "Agency Czar" Can you think of a bigger Red? Or a bigger nothing?
We did a great podcast interview with John Nolte. Come on over and have a listen.

Breitbart, Letterman/Palin, and all things Big Hollywood.
How about, Federal Universal Coverage Underwriting.
never a big Hank Fonda fan.
'Ox Bow' is watchable, not much more. Fonda always struck us as pre-occupied; unless he had a meaty bad guy role he always looked like his mind was elsewhere. Not particularly manly, either- a problem we had with Gary Cooper too- he came across as soft. Glenn Ford was far preferable to either…
Outstanding! There is no limit to the comedy that can come from this. Sure we'll be eating $50 canned meats (on account of the repressive taxes and inflation) and heating our houses with flaming twigs in a barrell (on account of Cap-n-Crap…er trade) but at least we'll be free to wait 6 months for a routine physical from an unqualified nurse's assistant who's doing the job because all the physicians left for countries where they can make money. I will now gouge out my eyes with a Sharpie.
I'm waiting for the Czar Czar whose job it is to keep track of all the Czars. In Russia's whole history they've had less Czars then we've had in the last 4 months.
Floyd I have trouble getting your site to load for me most of the time which stinks because it is hands down one of my favorites (though I post as Brandon on there). I have to imagine it's Mike's fault or perhaps some sort of crazy Zombie conspiracy.
Today's poll question, which we have been discussing at work today. What do you think the chances of a full blown revolution in the US are within the next 15 years?
My answer 65% (and growing daily).
Thanks… and I'll check on that. Does it time out? I don't think we have any extra-special thingamabobs that would make it a long load. After kicking Mike… I'll have to yell at Word Press.
It doesn't time out it just keeps loading and never comes up. At first I thought it was just because of video content (our work computers are odd about that) but from time to time it will do that on my home laptop also. It is why you have seen no post from me as of late, I can't get through.
Nothing cliche about the Ox-Bow Incident. Great ensemble acting.
Full-blown revolution??
It is currently around 40% and growing. When it gets close to 50% it will stall because the left wing media will not be reporting it, and 20% of the country will not know it is happening; the other 30% will be trying to decide if they should offend the government that is feeding them.
The 20% figure comes from the number of people who have not changed to digital television receivers. They are apparently waiting for someone to come to their door with a new TV set.
When I was in the military we had an expression: Ten percent never get the word, and it is always the same ten percent. Years have passed and times have changed and the ten percent have procreated.
Great way of putting it and you are right about the 10% procreating I think it's about all they do.
I've always said the only way to really get people to act is to interrupt their television shows since it seems to be the only thing that people really pay attention to. It really is kind of like that movie Wall-e (didn't like the movie though).
Speaking of which what was with the guvment' wasting hundreds of millions on digital television conversion anyway? What is the purpose?
I'll look at it. I blog on it from 3 or 4 different computers and have never had other than the occasional "network difficulty".
I think you're being watched. and toyed with. Look outside. If you see a '70s era van and a slovenly dude in a robe, stained Red Sox cap, and smoking hand-rolled cigarettes… that may be Mike.
Didn't work out so well the last time folks tried it. (1861-1865)
I disagree I think it worked out exactly as it should have, America won and a great injustice that directly contradicted the founding principle of all men are created equal was undone.
So it looks like there is another Democrat with shady dealings. Dick Durbin, D/Illinois (go figure), the No. 2 Man in the Senate, might have a little insider trading issue. He sold a large amount of stocks and mutual funds and bought a large amount of Berkshire Hathaway in September right after a closed door meeting with then Sect of Treasury Paulson and Fed Chairman Bernanke. Hmmm, do you think the Senate ethics committee will pick this one up and run with it? Maybe they are too busy investigating Chris Dodd's (D/CT) sweetheart mortgate deals with Countrywide to take this one up.
Here's some good movie news: Paul Haggis will not return to write the script for Bond 23. Thank God. You could literally tell exactly where his contributions were in Quantum of Solace. Plus, he was so relentlessly left-wing, it was like having Noam Chomsky doing the screenplay.
And who the heck thought ot was a good idea to let Paul Haggis write Bond in the first place? I mean, seriously.
Speaking of revolution. Ya know what makes me feel great? Seeing crowd shots of young conservative people. Rallies, YAF ballrooms, church groups, the C-SPAN camera panned Newt's crowd at his recent speech and the young, scrubbed, well-dressed young people made me much less hopeless. The bigger the group the more I love it. Does anyone have the resources and reach to solicit, collect and consolidate such images?
Me too. I thought perhaps it was just me…perhaps Andrew can call the fix-it-man
Hey Dom, just left Omaha Beach. I'll post soon. Thank you.
So I've been pondering this question to myself the last couple of days. Who was more gifted, Brian Wilson or John Lennon? Their respective bands were rivals on the Billboard in the 1960's. Lately, I have really gotten into the Beach Boys and have come to the conclusion that without Pet Sounds, there would have been no Sgt Pepper.
Well, of course it did–I was just responding to those that seem to gleefully feel we're really headed for some sort of CIvil War II.
I know that but what I meant was that John wayne was more of a heoric/masculine "figure" more then he was anything else. He wasn't someone who could actually "save the day".
No disrespect meant to the Duke.
If the Beatles hadn't been there the #1 group may very well have been the Beach Boys. They seem to have been dismissed as a niche band and the Beatles have been excepted as icons. I think it is a lot of hype but most others think they were Wyld Stallyons or something.
This individual sounds very familiar. Might he also be trying to lure people to his van with a jar of aged hard candy?
Busted, yup.
