Conservatives often talk about what they don’t like about Hollywood. That’s okay, but it’s not productive. Maybe it’s time we talked about what we do like? More to the point, let’s point out when Hollywood has gotten it right. And that brings me to the...

My thought for the day before heading to work:
A Drudge headline today reads: Peace in our time? with a picture of hooded terrorist thugs holding weapons lined up on a bench watching Obama make his speech.
While peace is all well and good, why do I get the feeling that the headline should be "Appease in our time"? How can it be real peace when all we have done is surrender, roll over like an old dog showing our belly, licking everyone's hand in submission? How can it be real peace when it all goes to h-e-double hockey sticks in a hand basket if we take one misstep?
Am I being a wet blanket?
More like a blanket of truth and reality.
What a stud Charles Bronson was on the screen. It’s an interesting juxtaposition between our fearless leader (Barry) and Bronson, huh? The first “Crow” was a cool flick indeed.
When I saw "The Crow" I was ten or so, and it confused and annoyed me, but I guess I wasn't the target audience.
The word appeasement has attracted a negative stigma because of the mistaken notion that the policy of appeasement led to WWII, so let me use a different word, 'mollify'. I have found that a policy of 'mollification' works very well in my personal life and I think it would work well in the foreign policy of the USA. Obama goes to Cairo, he mollifies the Arabs, who knows? It could work.
I hated The Crow, mainly because I was such a huge fan of the comic before the movie was made and they changed some very fundamental points the comic made.
I loved the original Crow. The sequels were crap.
Too bad Brandon Lee died just as he was breaking out, just like his legendary father.
"Soothing" (what mollify means according to the dictionary) your enemy does not promote "peace". It only works as long as you are kissing the other person's behind.
I believe I would rather stand on principles than mollify my way through life. To continue to use the analogy of the submissive dog, I'd much rather stand there and bark, holding my ground, than meekly lick someone's hand to make them like me.
Believe it or not, I never knew (until sometime after repeated viewings) that the Crow was actually in comic form.. Of course, it took me about 4 or 5 viewings to figure out most of the premise of the movie… (and I hope I never see the Sequels ever again…)
What is that Churchill quote? Appeasement reflects the hope that the crocodile will eat you last? No.
"An Appeaser is one who feeds a crocodile, hoping it will eat him last."
Then mollify is the correct term for Obama. He has been mollifying every person that we were previously on bad terms with (Castro, Chavez, etc). He will weaken our image to the rest of the world, and when they walk all over him he will just accept it. I can't stand the guy for being such an apologist.
My grandfather was not an intellectual heavyweight by any means, he like most of the greatest generation was a man of simple wisdom and common sense. He died when I was 10 and died far too young due to a lifetime of complications from a wound he suffered in WW2 during the invasion of Normandy. I don't remember as much as I'd like to remember about him but there were a few gems from him that have shaped my whole life and made me who I am. Here is one of them:
He once told me: "If you're wrong and I'm right and I agree to comprimise with you and meet you in the middle now we'd both be wrong. That's why you don't comprimise when you're right."
This is the mistake President Obama and the appeasers or mollifiers if you like are making. We're moving from being heroes to enablers.
I love Churchill. He's a great writer. And after Gallipoli, I think the world would have been better off if he had stuck to writing.
One of my favorite quotes of W.C. I also always liked:
"He's a modest man with much to be modest about."
The original Crow was awesome and it is ashamed what happened to Brandon Lee. He really had great potential. Also the woman who played his girlfriend in there was just off the charts hot but I heard she was so shaken by what happened to Brandon Lee that she quit acting.
I was reading Joe Sobran's column recently. In it he quotes G.K. Chesterton, "Meek does not mean cowardly and timid; it means polite and unassuming".
As for the dog analogy; the dog licks the hand because he likes its owner.
"Peace in Our Time" was used by Drudge sarcastically, and perfectly appropriately, as it is the common misquote from out of touch former British PM Neville Chamberlain after he signed The Munich Agreement with Hitler's Germany on September 30, 1938.
The Agreement gave the Sudetenland of Czechoslovakia to Adolf Hitler in an effort to appease German agression. It was a sham, and less than a year later, WWII began.
It has become synonymous with appeasers and those others who'd rather stick their heads in the sand than oppose oncoming threats, (or, even for those who, like the French, joined sides with impending evil because fighting it was deemed impossible). The often misquoted actual blurb was "Peace for our Time".

Yeah, Sofia Shinas. So damn hot. She and Brandon were together (possibly engaged, I'm too lazy to look right now). The original film — a great, great film — is dedicated to them.
Ironic that in Bruce Lee's last film, Game of Death, he played a movie star killed when a blank bullet was swapped for a real one.

Licking the hand of a terrorist who threatens my family's life and my own life is not an option. Nor would I lick the hand of a terrorist who threatens my neighbor's life.
What happens after you appease or mollify a mean dog with a bone? Do you constantly have to watch your back for fear of being attacked until another bone appears? What kind of life is that?
Sorry, Patricius. That isn't the life I envision after living in the US for almost 60 years. You may be soothed into losing your rights, but there are millions of us who aren't. When the breaking point comes to this country for what Obama is trying to do, who do you think will be there to salvage what little is left from all this pacification? I'm putting myself out on a limb here, but I'm guesssing it won't be the weak mollifyers.
I remember seeing the Crow for the first time when it came out, it blew me away and that was from someone who read the comic as well. While it wasnt a true rendition of the comic it still captured the feeling and tone of the books. I was already heavy into the underground sounds and look from the movie so to me most of the scenes in the movie reminded me of the clubs and some of the bad guys who hung out in them. Ironic that Brandon Lee and myself were the same age when he died and I wonder to this day what he would be doing if he had lived.
Are you French? British? unfortunate combination of the two? Chesterton seems famous for restating the obvious, not taking a firm stand. How British of him, in fact the entire Middle East mess can be laid at the feet of the British and their desire to remain relevant despite a world quickly passing them by. In other words Chesterton seems to me to have written a bunch of meaningless pap. Let's take Machiavelli instead; to paraphrase, it is best to be both loved and feared but because that is rarely the case it is much preferable to be feared. Fast forward to modern reality, Obama wants to be loved ALOT and the U.S. feared a little bit, in the process we will be neither, Americans will die at the hands of Middle Eastern terrorists and the blood will be on Obama's hands.
That is stupid and ridiculous. G.B. was going to be irrelevant anyway, they could not expect to hold on to their Empire and in fact didn't. Churchill was a war time leader and filled the role perfectly. Providence saved him from obscurity and helped shape the post WWII world. That the idiot we have as POTUS, Hussein Obama would "return" his bust to the British says more about Obama than it does about Churchill. The world NEEDS a Churchill or a Reagan every once in a while to flush out the debris left by "progressive" politicians. Watch G. Brown flush down the Labour toilet, LOL!
What made it particularly aggregious was the Czechs were not involved, not party to the carving up of their own country. That shows the depths of the failure Chamberlain was. The only good he did was buy G.B. time to try to gear up to try to fight, he HAD to know it was inevitable…
Pat must be a Brit, a pacifict Brit. See below. He can have Chesterton, we Americans will take Machiavelli…
FYI,
Iowahawk's video about the new car just got played in part on CNBC (2:54 pm EST, June 5). They did a whole story about it. Great work Iowahawk!
Machiavelli wrote that it is better to kill a man's father than to steal his patrimony, which is the whole problem there in the middle east. There are those pesky Palestinians who think their patrimony has been stolen by the Israelis.
The people over there are crazy as a box of rats. Obama is probably the worst President in history; but who knows?, Maybe playing them is his forte. That, and playing us.
As for as me being a Brit, I'm not. I do speak English though.
What Great Britain needs is a King who will defend the faith and kingdom from the assault of all
those social ills it now suffers. That would require at least three royal executioners working 60 hours a week for five years.
Churchill was a great wartime leader because Hitler gave him quarter at Dunkirk in June 1940 and because Roosevelt threw in with him in March 1941, and because he could give a good speech. Thanks to those three things he was a great wartime leader. Take any one of those things away and he wouldn't have been so great.
I always liked: "I'll be sober tomorrow, but you'll still be ugly." (Actually, Sir Winston borrowed it from another great W.C. — Fields)
I agree that the House of Stuart should be restored.
But you're dead wrong about Churchill.
The Crow preceded the rennaisance of comic book films, and excepting the The Dark Knight, I believe it remains the best. I watch the film every Halloween and marvel at how much richer it gets with each viewing, the first being inn the theater the summer after my freshman year of college. The film has stood the test of time like few action films films before or since, and even though it wasn't faithful to James O'Barr's original work, the spirit remained. The sequels have been terrible.
*That* is great news!

Why were the comments turned off on Dave Konig's article about gay marriage?
The Crow, there's never one around when ya need one. Does anyone know if the german's ever figured out Hitler was crazy or did it turn out to be a big surprise to them?
Hey! My number finally changed!
That's how his generation was able to sacrifice so much and get America (and the rest of the world) through an awful war with our honor intact. Such great people; not perfect, but mostly decent and hardworking. Can we be the like of them?
And how in the world did their generation beget such selfish, ungrateful, narcissistic creatures as the Liberals are? God save us (or help us save ourselves)!
Congratulations! The race is on. Here's a +1 for you!
Agreed! That was a great video, and whatever fame it brings him is well earned.
Sofia Shinas is still in the movies. The actress who played the little girl is the one who quit. She had to do a scene with Brandon's body double after the accident.
Or, if anyone prefers a less bloody but equally awesome way of dealing with punks: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LaPVaBoAlf8&fe...
As another option, slightly more bloody, but still…
"Just dumb kids, Hub. Don't kill anybody."
