Madonna - love her or hate her. Some think she has no talent, while others have named their daughters after her. Some think her career is pure marketing and her fans believe she’s a real trend setter. There has always been a wide range of opinions about this woman, an...

Great poster (compare to the lame DVD cover). Great score by Frank Skinner. Great make-up Bud Westmore. And great monsters and A&C.
But what I'd really like to know is why REAPER isn't being renewed?
And why Obama is president.
Is it wrong to wish harm on someone else? Like say a politician for example?
Or at least to dream about it?
BTW, does anyone else think the new drop down menu for intense debate sucks? I very rarely receive any email notifications anymore so now what I do, in order to keep up, is I save all of the articles at BH to a designated favorites folder.
I don't know why people feel as though they just HAVE to keep improving on something, especially if it's already working well and people like it.
At first glance I thought you wrote "ham". Then I thought, "Well, it is wrong to wish ham on certain people, but it is perfectly right to wish it on others."
I would never wish ham on an observant Jew, for instance. However, I would wish an abundance of ham it all it's various forms on a Jihadist. Funny how that works, huh?
I say bacon should be a staple at Guantanamo. Well, hold on,… not bacon. Too tasty. Head cheese. Yes, head cheese ought to be served at every meal at Guantanamo Bay.
But, you know, that's me.
Why is Obama President?
Well, if you think THAT'S strange, consider the following:
Despite more than two centuries of having tacitly recognized its ENORMOUS potential utility, the phenomenon of hypnosis has always been commonly regarded with outright Fear & Loathing. How is it possible that something as beneficial to humanity ever came to be viewed in such a horrible manner?
Unlike the answer to the reason why Obama is President, which totally baffles me, I DO know the answer to the other question, and have in fact written a unique book about the subject titled: "A CRITICAL History of Hypnotism: the UNauthorized story".
Anyone curious enough about this fascinating topic to want to read a number of free chapters can do so at historyofhypnotism.com.
"I don't know why people feel as though they just HAVE to keep improving on something, especially if it's already working well and people like it."
Just like eBay.
Yes. It will always come back to haunt you. Wish them a long life, a very, very, very long life, so long that no one remembers who they were and what they did…hey, I didn't say I was perfect. [Disclaimer: No politician was harmed during the making of this post]
You can dream about it. Hey, Hollywood makes billions every year using our best revenge fantasies and putting them on the screen!
Ok good, cause so far I've only dreamt about it. I just hope it doesn't manifest into something bigger like wishing.
Exellent point. "Just like ebay".
It wasn't broken but they just had to "fix" it anyway.
Ok so now we know how obama REALLY got elected. He hypnotised all those dim witted morons into voting for him, makes sense to me.
Now THAT would be REAL torture.
The hardest part about being a Christian is trying to pray for someone who is loathsome. I wish William Ayers would…. that smug mug…the damage he's done to the education system… the people he harmed… I wish, I wish, that the scales fall from his eyes and he realizes the evil of his ways, and he comes to the love that God is ready to give him.
Yeah, I'm not too good at this. Rejoicing, praying for victims, giving thanksgiving for blessings in my life, asking for God's grace, well, those aren't hard at all. But praying for someone like Obama? That's a toughie.
Sarge- you have no idea how close you've come to the truth even though you meant that as a joke.
I kid you not! Check out the following link- which is an anonymous article titled: "An Examination of Obama's Use of Hidden Hypnosis Techniques in his Speeches".
http://api.ning.com/files/9BaDyhAeOc9XOFo2vdf*rQZ…
It's long (66 pp.!) and quite technical, but even if you skim through it quickly you'll be amazed at what it reveals. The author obviously knows his stuff, and I assume he chose to remain anonymous so that the Powers That Be don't sic the IRS (or worse!) on him in retribution for this expose'…
How long will this nation be subject to the likes the neo-climatolgist, Algore, and his traveling band of intellectual lightweights? Chicken Little was the paragon of good sense and steadfastness in comparison. What will it take to marginalize this clown?
Sunday Open Thread @ Big Hollywood…love it! With an ice breaker to boot. Too bad there's nothing on my mind at the moment.
Hey ABBOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOTT!
Sgt…..Biblically, yes. But when it comes to my ex-wife I do it all the time.
When I was a kid, I had such nightmares from the images of Dracula, F's Monster and all the classic "monsters", that even this classic comedy was forbidden for me to watch. I got better.

What is wrong with head cheese? especially pickled head cheese.
A turkey was chatting with a bull. 'I would love to be able to get to the top of that tree' sighed the turkey, 'but I haven't got the energy.' 'Well, why don't you nibble on some of my droppings?' replied the bull. 'They're packed with nutrients.' The turkey pecked at a lump of dung, and found it actually gave him enough strength to reach the lowest branch of the tree. The next day, after eating some more dung, he reached the second branch. Finally after a fourth night, the turkey was proudly perched at the top of the tree. He was promptly spotted by a farmer, who shot him out of the tree.
*Moral of the story: *Bull sh!t might get you to the top, but it won't keep you there.
"No politician was harmed during the making of this post" — LOL!
I believe there is an old Chinese saying (it's on the tip of my brain or I would give more details), but what it says is something like "woe betide those who live too long."
I wouldn't mind seeing Nancy P. live long enough that her skin becomes resistant to botox.
Well, I don't like it – and it is buggy. Wrote a reply to you – came back – it was gone – no email notifications – and one thing I did notice when the replies to email notifications were working – the post comes up with all the HTML junk still in it – as a burned-out programmer I can say that string manipulation should be easy – reading the message, detecting all the HTML and eliminating it before posting –
But OTOH I am addicted to BH and considering what Iam paying for the privilege of using it, don't complain too loud
Jimmy, aren't you supposed to "be on First"?
Inasmuch as liberals–you know, the people we're constantly being told care more than we do, feel more deeply than we do, are nicer than we are, smarter than we are, better than we are, just so darned superior to us in every single way imaginable–spent every single day for eight years wishing all sorts of terrible things would happen to Bush, I think that opened the door for us low-life, nasty, awful, evil conservatives to wish people (especially politicians) ill. After all, they're constantly wanting us to take a page from their book, aren't they?
One could egg on this dofuss to the point he could be caught in a documented lie. Those in denial of the truth rarely accept fact beyond refute. One could overwhelmingly argue that chemotherapy is better than holistic therapy on treatable cancers such as hodgekins lymphoma as an example. It is clear that Al Gore was taught the dark sciences, amounting to alchemy and wishful thinking, hoping the pot at the end of the raibow is filled with gold. AHhhhhh I remember those days of religious zealots, transformed from destitute and soft living drop outs of our viet nam history. Those were the people, we discovered ,were brainwashed like Charley Manson did on the Spahn Ranch.
Some one of importance needs to stand up to the farce of his climate arguments. He and his cohorts should be given their due advertisement. Those that should be included are GE and Jeffery Immelt and other climate change backers.
Since this is our opportunity for any subject – what's with all these people who believe in man-made global warming flying around in their own private jets? And Nancy Pelosi – as Speaker she was authorized use of a government Grumman Gulfstream – one of the top business jets – $40-$50 million – 10-15 passengers – but (in the words of John Belushi in SNL – BUT NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! She had to have a B757 airliner to do her hops with – now she is in China.
Seems like the biggest fear-mongers spew the most carbon.
Chuck was renewed by NBC – but only 13 episodes and it won't air until the spring. But at least it's back. Plus Castle got renewed by ABC.
Hooray for good TV.
My mind reeled the first time I walked into a store that rented VHS tapes. You mean I could watch a movie, any movie, any time I wanted to?
And what was the first movie I wanted to rent? "Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein."
You didn't hear him! THE DEBATE IS OVER. Now, if all media would just stop giving credibility to anyone who disagrees with Al, we could all move on and he can cash in.
Asked, and answered.
Why is Obama President?
All I can think of is bad stuff some times happens to good people.
However, if you are trying to look for any silver lining that may be hiding in this fiasco, it just may be that Obama will be the catalyst that rids us of the liberals and RINOs, at least for a while. There will be no one else to point a finger at for the condition of this country but the libs and weak Republicans who went along with the Obama ideals for the sake of bi-partisanship. (How a Republican can be bi-partisan when it comes to socialism and socialist ideals is beyond me.) Because of Obama, open conservatism is on the rise.
Instead of the "We're queer and we're here" rally call it will be:
"We're the Right and we're here to fight!"

Part ONE: Obama finds himself in some "predicaments." I would normally find myself excited about that too, and I see that many other Conservatives also are relishing the fact that the One is finding his rhetorical zero sum campaign positions may put him in some difficult spots. But that is the thing isn't it? If a tree falls in the woods and nobody hears it…you know the rest. Fellow conservatives across the nation are aware of Obama's dangerous and outright frightening decisions and the resultant damage it will cause to the US. That is, Fellow Conservatives that actually call themselves Conservatives and read the Conservative blogs and listen to talk radio and watch the tiny number of Television news/opinion shows that lean "right." So that means the rest of the country knows nearly anything about the massive damage being done, nor do they understand the implications of what the One has done. This is the most frightening aspect of all.
Yesterday, I saw an audi SUV with a bumper sticker on the right side that said " ALL mothers are working mothers!" and on the left side an "obama/biden" sticker. Wow.
We are in an age where Liberals have controlled the mechanisms of Education for 30 years or more, and now the "chickens have come home to roost" to cop a phrase from someone whom Obama is very loosely associated with for the past 30 years, and by loosely, I mean just attending his Church with his family and spending thousands of hours with. Liberalism is thus indoctrinated early, and as a result our entire media and culture are dominated with Liberalism.
Part II
Liberalism is easily digested. It boils down to a very simple equation : Republicans bad, Democrats good. Conservativism = selfishness, Liberalism= moral righteousness. This is of course simplified, but it serves as the explanation for the crazy world we live in today. A United States in an age where our society is the richest and most "educated" than ever before, yet Obama can literally say and do whatever he wants without nary a peep from the media puppets and from the people who stand the most to lose, which is everyone that wants to have good life for themselves and their family by being productive and having opportunities. It awes me what a confused and downright ignorant country we have become. We have absolutely no ability to think critically. We are a country that allows itself to be easily manipulated by buzzwords and rhetoric (and equate eloquence without substance with Genius). American's have become so inured, so knee jerk reactionary, that we simply accept what we are told, and few of us have the fortitude to actually seek out information in order to fully understand a topic before we take an embarrassingly strong stance on positions. Americans are utterly inured to the utter BS and manipulation by the Elites in the Media and education, and of course Democrat and some Republican politicians. Every topic that is considered "important" is defined and disseminated by Liberal Elitists who hate our country. They SET THE AGENDA, and we are all forced to dance to its tune. This equation has allowed most people to accept without question everything Liberal and despise and distrust anything that Liberal elites tell them to. A nation of tools, ushering our children to the edge of a cliff and pushing them over.
Can we ever really return our country to the path of Greatness it once walked? With Public education, Liberal Universities, Liberal agenda in every newspaper, Television Newscast, Liberal Hollywood, and Liberal domination of even the Internet and its biggest search engine (google), is it really possible? Doubtful. Here we type out our frustration and it is literally our only tool. Here we fight and split hairs over our differences and thus divide our small collective. A collective of shared universal ideas, but apparently so much principle that it is impossible for us even to come together enough to make our voices heard, let alone affect any sort of real change. Our best chance is to support Republicans the same way liberals do: Vociferously and uniformly. We concentrate on our MOST IMPORTANT ideals, IE smaller government, the deficit, the courts, and of course taxes etc. Then we get every SINGLE Republican elected we can no matter how squishy they are. Don't you see? Republicans have become squishier the more the Democrats win. It is our indifference, our lack of passion, and our hair splitting that has made the RINO, not the Democrats, it is WE who have allowed it! Republicans have not become RINO's nor are the unable to respond to the "needs of society" or the "topics of the day". Republicans don't get to set the agenda, therefore they have to dance the jig. Gingrich contract for America was brilliant. Republicans won because they set the terms, they played the song. How can we blame them now, when we have become so complacent? How can we be upset with a RINO, when he can't address the issues that are important to us because NOBODY ELSE THINKS THEY ARE IMPORTANT?!
Then we take our money and we support our cause, we support business, CONSERVATIVE BUSINESS. We get out from our computers. We stop keeping our mouth's shut in front of company to be polite. We wear our shirts, we buy our bumperstickers, we go after the Elitists. Or here is our future:
A one party system, a society of the Nobility (government employees) and serfs (us). In short, Animal farm.
The first Americans had families and a life, yet they FOUGHT the most powerful Empire on the Earth and won. We are afraid to say our beliefs or express ourselves anywhere but here or AM radio. It just wouldn't be polite.
Wake up, was that a tree falling?
Mmm I love ham! Then again I'm not really observant so that works for me. I'm with you on the head cheese sandwiches for terrorists though.
My fortune cookie said my lucky number was .25.
Well, if ever our Depression gets so bad that .25 cents is a bucket load of money, you might be in luck!
Thanks Saul, I saved the link for later perusing.
I thought it was pronounced "Yaaaabott".
Ha! Good one!
But of course you silly little person, don't you know that the rules that the rich politicians make only apply to the little people.
I got a ton of 'em, if you have not already thought about it, replace "turkey" with Obama and "tree" with political ascendancy.
I'm with you Bonnie – sometimes the more someone needs our prayers (and the more we need to pray for them for our own spiritual well being), the harder it is to offer those prayers. I think you're on the right track in your comments about Ayers, BTW…
When he was running it was obvious to me that he was replicating, in a slightly different way, the hypnotic techniques taught to Adolf Hitler by Ernst Weiss (there's a book about it, look it up). There are videos about it on YouTube. He might not know he's doing it as it could have come from some other form of training. Tony Robbins uses the techniques. L. Ron Hubbard used them constantly.
The bad thing is, the karma of it comes back to them within their lifetime, and it isn't pretty how they ALWAYS end up.
After Bill Clinton Dies he goes directly to Hell. Upon arriving he is met by Satan, who informs him that Hell is currently full but since he really deserves to be there, they will make special arrangements by letting someone else leave to make room for Bill. And, as a special favor, he will be given a choice of people to replace. Satan then leads Bill to a room with three doors.
The first door opens. Behind the door is Nancy Pelosi. She’s being worked over with a blowtorch. Upon seeing Nancy in this predicament, Clinton cringes and says, "That looks painful. I don't think this is for me."
The second door opens. Behind door #2 is Al Gore. His skin is being stripped off with a pair of pliers. Grimacing at the bloody scene, Clinton again says, "I don't think this is for me."
The third door opens and behind it is Ted Kennedy. He is naked and bound hand and foot. Kneeling before him is Monica Lewinsky, doing what she does best. "I can handle that!" Clinton proclaims enthusiastically.
"Very well," says Satan. "Monica, you've been pardoned – you may go now."
The new Mike Judge project "The Goode Family" looks really promising. I'm a little nervous, however, by the fact that it is on ABC. If the show is truly subversive how come FOX didn't get it?
I wasn't getting any responses after months of being able to reply to people who responded to certain posts I was interested in. So I tried that "reply" message after writing to the BH comments and ID people. Now I'm getting responses to everything, whether I want it or not, and I've received no answer from either BH or ID. But as Bill Brandt said, considering how much I'm paying for a site I really enjoyed, it's not the worst thing that could happen. I just hope they fix the unnecessary fix.
For anyone looking for a wonderful book about the underpinnings of this great republic, let me recommend "The 5000 Year Leap: A Miracle That Changed the World" by W. Cleon Skousen.
great idea…and who doesnt love Abbot and Costello?
is that much time even possible?
LOL
Love the Clinton "Hell" joke.
Can I change it to Colin Powell?
Question: Is there anyone who believes that Colin Powell is NOT a Democrat now except Powell?
http://news.yahoo.com/s/bloomberg/20090524/pl_blo...
Obama is President because the people who own this nation and its people, chose him.
It doesn't take a PhD in Anthroplogy to figure out that the largest voting bloc in America, women ages18-44, are going to prefer a youngish man such as Obama rather than a matron like Clinton or an old geezer like McCain. And the second largest voting bloc, Blacks, are pretty much entrenched on the Democrat plantation.
Most conservatives were disgusted with McCain for his awful legislative record which includes that treasonous McCain-Kennedy Immigration Reform Bill and that treachorous McCain-Feingold Election Reform Bill. McCain was the only candidate that Hillary Clinton could have beaten and the fact that he was the nominee is circumstantial evidence of Clinton skullduggery in the Republican nominating process. It was Clinton's misfortune that there was a handsome male alternative to her who was promising more hope and change and who just had more sex appeal to the girls than either Clinton or McCain.
Nah, Who's on first…
Thought of a new catchphrase for B.O./Spock:
"Talk Long – And With a Teleprompter"
It think it was more like Hey YAAAAAAAAABBBBBBBBBBBOTT!
I been a bad boy…
I would just like to take a moment to publicly thank Evan Sayet for allowing me the opportunity to get up onstage @ the Laugh Factory last Tuesday night to do my Robert DeNiro as Jake LaMotta performing Kenny Loggins' 'House at Pooh Corner' bit.
I had a blast and the audience seemed to enjoy it as well.
Evan Sayet is the Best!
Scrapple still violates the Geneva Convention rules and has been removed from the Army Field Manual.
The Taliban and Janeane Garofalo.
I just read an interesting opinion piece in the Washington Post, of all places, about the lost idea of national service that as a result of the all-volunteer military force. One statistic noted: in 1947 65% of respondents had served or had an immediate family member who had served in WWII; in 2008 only 14% of respondents had served or had an immediate family member who had served in Iraq. Also, mandatory military service required men to work with people of different backgrounds, classes, races, etc. Here's the link: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/arti...
Very astute observation, Skip- that was spot on!
Cult leaders are also well versed in similar techniques, though they may not recognize the dynamics behind what they're doing.
Check out that link if you get a chance- it makes for fascinating reading despite it's rather technical nature.
Excellent!
"Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein" is the greatest horror-humor movie of all time . . . the monsters stay true to themselves, as do A&C. One of my all time favorites. Fond memories of it playing every day on WOR Channel 9 in New York (any NY codgers here remember "Million Dollar Movie"?)
Close second in the horror/humor movie category: "Shaun of the Dead".
All IMO, of course!
Of course it isn't wrong to wish harm on other people re: Wanda Sikes, Bill Mahr, Alec Baldwin, et al, as long as the person being wronged is a conservative and/or Republican. Where've you've been the last 9 years?
You've asked quite the philosophical question there. I understand that there is enough time for rivers to run dry, mountains to crumble, suns to burn out, and twinkies to go bad. . . but Pelosi's skin? I just don't know.
Cause Fox entertainment is left wing.
My dad (god rest his soul) went to a dinner in Columbus OH, to see Gen. Powell. I asked him (he was a dyed in the wool liberal) why he wants to see a republican? He told me, "Son, he's no republican. He's a democrat!"
I thought he was crazy. After 13 years, he was right. Powell is a dem.
Hey, all jewish people who voted for Obama. Are you upset that Obama has basically told Israel to go F$$$ itself. And isn't raising much stink about Iran building it's nukes.
Bet you all feel real stupid right now.
Don't worry, many moderates feel just as stupid.
I heard that if you break a fortune cookie with your forehead, the fortune will come true.
I agree. I’ve always thought the older posters were better than the new posters (in general). They are wittier.
The most annoying thing for me has been a tie between 1) no one involved with site maintenance ever replies when you have a problem/praise or suggestion and 2), in my former identity, for some reason every single post by me suddenly began being instantly "deleted by the administrator" which was frustrating enough… then add to that annoying thing number 1.
You definitely got the worst of it. In defense of the site though, I have to say that as near as I can tell, most of the problems appear to have been fixed. Comments don't vanish anymore, and I can always get the comments to load — sometimes I have to do the thumbs up to make it happen, but it will always happen.
Also, as was said above, for what we pay for the site, this is one heck of a bargain.
Her excuse would be the words of another SNL Hall of Famer, Steve Martin: "well excuuuuuuuuuuse me!"
I always wonder why no one ever talks of a GE boycott — no GE toasters, no GE refrigerators or stoves or ovens. I won't buy a lightbulb from them or watch the Today Show, but my friend says they're in everything and you can't live without them…surely if every conservative in America stopped buying from them we could run them into the ground before the Green Energy Wave hits.
By the way, is anyone else so sick of hearing "green" they recoil at buying anything from anyone touting the green revolution?
Saturday night I saw for the first time the 1962 movie "Panic in the Year Zero". While not a great movie, I was impressed enough to stay with it. Partly because of the recent discussions here about how Hollywood looks at what it means to be a man.
Soon after an average middle-class family, the Baldwin's, leave on a camping trip they learn America has come under nuclear attack. The story focuses on the transformation of the family, but primarily the father Harry (Ray Milland) from "mild-mannered" to survivalist. He takes firm control of what little he can to protect his family, even when it means being reduced to robbery at one point. In one scene after he is roughed up by three thugs, his son Rick (played by Frankie Avalon) wounds one of them with buckshot. His wife, Ann (Jean Hagen) admonishes him for letting their son use a gun, saying she doesn't know him anymore. Later on, she winds up using a gun herself to save their daughter Karen (Mary Mitchell). Even while Harry finds himself going to lengths for his family he would never consider in normal life, he still tries to cling to some sense of civility and justice. Later, when it seems radio reports indicate the war has ended and Rick has been badly hurt, the family is racing through the night to the nearest town with a hospital. They're stopped by a vehicle where all you can see are headlights. Harry is ordered out of the car. He doesn't know who it is and thinks it's more thugs. You finally see the distress begin to take hold of him. It turns out to be a US Army patrol and the family is not just relieved but overjoyed to see them.
I liked how the movie showed a situation becoming so surreal (America's largest cities having been nuked) it forces an ordinary man to shed the trappings of homogenization and become a warrior. I also liked how his wife is a stabilizing force, bringing him back from the brink and giving him a sense of balance and civility.
I've not read the book it was based on and, perusing the web, it sounds as if the movie ending is different (better IMO). Many end of the world genre films of that era had anti-military themes and often showed the limits of a man. This story spends very little time on those themes and even puts the military in a positive light.
I have never seen an A&C film at the movies. I would love to see some of their better films on the big screen with an audience.
MDM – "if you missed any part of today's film or would like to see it again…..". ….come back in a couple of hours or just stay right there b/c we are rewinding it now. hahahaha! (goes to a Bamberger's commercial)
Lou to Frank Ferguson – Do you still want your exhibits?
FF – Yes.
Lou – Well, here comes one of them now.
OMG – priceless!
You may be confused on the details- the thugs rape his daughter, so Milland and Avalon find them and kill them. I dont recall the Mom using a gun.
Milland goes to buy gas and groceries and the guys tries to charge him a few hundred bucks for a few gallons and a few bags of food. Milland pulls out his gun, tosses the guy a $20 telling him that that is what it would have cost yesterday.
Being a Jewish Republican in NYC (a rare breed), I tried my hardest to make my other Jewish friends understand that Obama was not going to be any friend to Israel. They didn't believe me. Why Jews vote consistently with Democrats, especially because of this issue, I will never know.
At that time, you had to rent because movies on VHS tapes were $99–and now we complain when a single Blu-ray Disc is more than $19.95.
And I dare you to look me in the eye and deny the greatness that would be a remake/reboot of "Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein" starring Alfonzo Rachel as Chick Young and Steven Crowder as Wil Grey.
Shoot it in Dallas on HD video and take advantage of experienced non-union crews and the 15% state tax break.
Guaranteed to make money.
No, I'm not confused. Your memory may have faded.
The first meeting with the thugs, the family had pulled to the side of the road. The thugs drive past and get out. The father tells his family to get in the camper then he confronts the 3 thugs. They rough him up and take his pistol and point it at him. They want to know what's in the trailer (camper). Harry tells them to stay out, but one moves toward it and Rick shoots through the camper window wounding the first thug in his right shoulder. The thug drops the pistol and Harry retrieves it. The three say they were just joking around. Harry looks at the wounded one's shoulder and says it was just buck shot and not serious. He tells them to beat it. They drive off.
Later, In the movie, the mother is washing clothes by a creek and a negligee drifts downstream without her noticing. The daughter, Karen, is supposed to be fishing but is reading a magazine and the garment floats passed her without being seen. Two of the three thugs retrieve it and find Karen. She tries to run but the two drag her off. The scene quick cuts back to the mother, where a shotgun is shown clearly behind her leaning against a rock. She hears her daughter scream, calls her name, picks up the weapon and goes to higher ground in the direction of her daughter, where she sees the two men and shoots. Now, rape is definitely implied, but only a few seconds have actually gone by. So, though we don't know, it seems the mother shooting prevented the actual act. Harry and Rick go look for the perps. They find them drunk in a farmhouse nearby (that's owned by the hardware store guy) and shoot them. They hear noise from a back room. It is the daughter of the hardware store owner the thugs had enslaved. She says the thugs murdered her parents. They let the girl come back with them, where Harry expresses remorse to his wife. He felt he was becoming no better than the thugs. She reassures him he did what he had too to protect them saying she had tried to kill them too (when she shot at them.
The gas scene is before the two above. Harry had bought a lot of supplies at a "dry goods" store then asked if there was a hardware store. The dry goods clerk called for the hardware store owner to come and open his shop. Harry bought a lot of supplies including a rope and some gas cans. He asked if he could buy any guns. The owner showed him some hand guns and showed him how to load one. He told Harry it would be over $300 for all of it and he'd have to wait a day on the guns because "Los Angeles may have been nuked but the boys in Sacramento will still want the paper work". Harry said he had $220 in cash and would write a check for the rest. When the shopkeep refused, that's when Harry grabs the pistol. They fight and Rick comes in, gets the gun and holds off the clerk. Later at a gas station, the attendant says "that'll be ninety dollars." Harry asks why, the attendant says "because people are payin' it" Harry says "your pump says 34 cents a gallon that's only ten dollars". The gas guy tells him he can return all the gas if he doesn't like it or trade something for it like a nice watch or jewelry. That's when Harry pull the handgun the second time in the movie.
"these people who believe in man-made global warming"
Simple, they don't
