Entertainment Media Finds Any Excuse to Blast Sarah Palin
by Billy HallowellThe entertainment media’s treatment of Sarah Palin and her family has been abhorrent. Like their biased and unjust hard news media brethren, entertainment outlets have gone out of their way to tarnish Palin’s image. While tabloids, semi-legitimate entertainment programs and celebrities issue incessant praise for President Obama and his leftist policies, Palin is showered with insults and inappropriate slurs. And let’s not forget the ongoing insensitive questioning about the birth of her special needs son, Trig.

Since the end of the 2008 campaign, some of the most glaring examples of the entertainment media’s obsession with anti-Palin coverage have centered on Levi Johnston, the father of Bristol Palin’s baby. Levi, a guy who would be better suited to appear on Tool Academy than he would on any legitimate hard or entertainment news program, has been reaping the benefits from his connection to Palin. In addition to his highly-publicized Playgirl shoot, Levi has been circulating entertainment shows in an attempt to pass off his melba-esque persona as something less than bland.
And, surprise! Since breaking up with Bristol, Levi has had a more-than-warm welcome from entertainment media who are anxious to find dirt on the former Alaska governor. While there is no contestant shortage for 2009’s “Most Idiotic Entertainment News Outlet” category, CBS’s The Insider takes the cake. Described as a program that “…reports on the dynamic world of breaking celebrity news and offers viewers opposing views on everything …Hollywood!” The Insider touts coverage that is a half-step above highlighting a covert meeting between President Obama and friendly extraterrestrials.
This begs the question: Since when is Sarah Palin “Hollywood?” One could argue that it all started with Kathy Griffin’s antics. In what commenced as yet another plea for attention, Griffin brought Levi to The 2009 Teen Choice Awards. Clearly, this was little more than a publicity stunt for Griffin, who would likely sell her left kidney if it yielded a decent photo-op. However, in the grander scheme, this was a clear statement to young people: Go ahead and laugh at Sarah Palin. Hollywood’s doing it, so you should too!
For what other purposes would it be appropriate to elevate and promote Levi for all of young America to see if not to embarrass a Republican politician? Of course, Griffin garnered the attention she wanted and Levi was portrayed as a bizarro teen heart throb of sorts. You know you’re in Hollywood when…[insert moment of inhumanity and/or insanity]. The Huffington Post penned the play-by-play back in August:
“Dressed in a pinstripe suit and pink striped tie, the Alaskan teen and father of Sarah Palin’s grandson Tripp arrived hand-in-hand with Griffin, planted a kiss on her cheek for the cameras and did some solo posing as well.”
Gag me.
Anyway, let’s move back to 2009 champion of idiocy: The Insider. This fall, the show decided to reunite Levi and Griffin. During what host Lara Spencer probably mistook as a very riveting and thought-provoking interview, she asked Levi fair-minded questions in the vein of, “Is Sarah Palin really Trig’s mother?” and “Why do you think Sarah Palin is afraid of you?” Following the liberally-driven wingnuttery that ensued during the 2008 presidential campaign, the question about Trig’s birth is breathtakingly cruel and sense-retardant. Spencer’s questioning screamed ratings desperation and showed just how far entertainment media will go to make Palin look idiotic while turning a profit.
Now, let’s jump to Andrew Sullivan’s recent appearance on Joy Behar’s HLN show. According to Sullivan,
“I don`t think [Palin] has much relationship with reality…And I think at some point, if journalists do their job and if brave people stand up and tell the truth, we will find out who Sarah Palin really is. And we currently don`t know.”
These would be the same journalists who did such an excellent job researching the man who currently leads the free world. Insane. And here, too, the story about Trig’s birth is brought into question. Detached from reality? Maybe Sullivan should explore the mental capacity of his interviewer. After all, who can ignore Behar’s detached-from-reality commentary about people who favor Sarah Palin:
“Well her people are evil and nasty. They are not nice people. They send me nasty mail and everybody else who talks about it. Anything negative about Sarah Palin, they get hit with this stuff. You know.”
Ironic that Behar wouldn’t consider her own nastiness as a potential catalyst for negative feedback. Behar has openly called Palin stupid, among other nasally-delivered complements. And the list goes on and on. The entertainment media (which, by my calculation, includes the now theoretically deficient Andrew Sullivan) are intent on making Palin out to be: stupid, evil, incompetent, a mere “Barbie” and insolent, in no particular order.
Get over it, Hollywood. Sarah Palin doesn’t share your values. She’s pro-life, pro-capitalism and pro-rationality. Rather than wasting all of your time lambasting her, promoting Levi and attempting to debunk her very existence, why not divert even a portion of your energy towards examining the man you’ve placed America’s very existence in the hands of. We’ve all got personal dirt. Since you’ll never let up, why not shovel a little less of Palin’s and a little more of Obama’s?
A little fair-mindedness is all we’re asking for. Can you deliver?

The only exception I take to your excellent analysis is Griffin would sell her kidney for a photo op.
That has a pleasant outcome provided the kidney is not disease ridden. I have better analogy but its probably not permissable on this site. Behar and Griffin have been described as comedians which is a disservice to the profession.

It was the GOPers who lambasted Jackson and his wife, Rachel, calling them bigamists (which had been sort of true, but wasn't at the time of the election ) and even said that his wife was "fat". When Rachel died, Andy blamed the "nasty" politics.
Dems, who had courted Ike, then turned on him, when he ran as a GOPer and started a whispering campaign about Mamie beiong a "closet drunk", but that never did get national, radio, newspaper, T.V. time.

I truly can't say if Palin will ever be president, and I am not sure if she SHOULD be president. She has a very good moral code, and for that she should be commended, not crucified. Wheter or not the presidency is in her future, I can't believe the Hollyweird crowd would hold up a negligent father jerk-off like Levi as a heart throb. Keep clinging to those 15 minutes Levi, they will never come again, and be sure to never return to Alaska. Those folks probably don't like you much.
Fine. How about Ms. Palin actually answer some legitimate questions. Such as.
1. Did she really ask Billy and Franklin Graham for advice about what the Bible says about Iraq? Should elected leaders use Biblical interpretations in order to shape foreign policy?
2. What *exactly* is her opinion of the Alaska Indpendence Party's call to scecede from the US?
3. Could she please clarify her opinion about teaching Intelligent Design in Science Class?
4. If she felt it necessary that the US open up another front of warfare, how exactly would she propose paying for the new war while still cutting taxes while running budget deficit (remember, this is exactly how the surplus evaporated in 2002). Moreover, if she felt that a new war was necessary, given the potentially overextended troops we have now, would she be in favor of bringing back the draft?
What's that saying about desperate people? But really, I could never imagine being THAT desperate.
Saddest part is, their desperation revolves all around themselves. How pathetic is that?
But thank the liberals media/entertainment and DC politicians. After 3 decades of being a Democrat, I switched.

Really? What specifically? My guess is that the next GOP President, whenever that may be, will simply regurgitate the programs and policies that the last three GOP Presidents implemented. It will be the same deficit ballooning tax cuts, domestic spending cuts erased by the boosts in defense spending, and judicious use of military strikes to distract people from the reality that supply-side economics has never balanced a single budget.
All this ominous talk of "payback" is exactly that, talk. Unless you're prepared to do something more "concrete", let's hear it.
I think anyone who is old enough to have paid attention to politics during the two Reagan administrations (that's right 2, count them 2, both land slides) can figure out what all this is about.

Over eight plus years, the MSM did its absolute best to turn Reagan into a jelly bean eating buffoon. And it didn't work. It worked fine in the elite liberal circles, but in middle America, the real America, the ones that make this country work every day, never bought any of it. They simply ignored the MSM and Hollywood. Reagan spoke, the people listened, and obviously agreed. If they didn't, Mondale wouldn't have received the biggest shellacking since Japan said "uh oh" after Pearl Harbor.
(On a side note, I would like to thank Mondale for running for the Senate a few years back. When he ran for President, Minnesota was the only state he won. By running again, he granted Minnesota voters a chance to right that wrong, by voting against him. And they did!)
I'm convinced the MSM and the left in general is terrified of Palin because they sense the same personality as Reagan. And the thought of being side lined again terrify them.
This is all a preemptive strike to take her out of the picture before she gets anywhere near power.
(One other side note, after having Palin's daughter as a girlfriend, how on earth can he be slumming it so low to be seen with a witch like Griffen, much less actually touch her? Talk about bizzaro world.)
From the nature of your questions it seems a reasonable guess that you expect answers which will further solidify your own predisposed ideas.
How 'bout asking more open ended questions that lead to discussion and the potential of mind-opening dialog? Something like:
Mrs Palin, can you describe how the concepts and teachings of your specific religious affiliation affect your thinking on foreign relations?
Do you believe that your affiliations have a negative or positive impact on how you view the world outside of the United States?
Do you feel that your religious expressions will have a negative or positive role in how you would conduct international affairs?
See, these questions open the respondent up by asking for their opinion. The opinion may be scripted or false, but the purpose of the question is to start dialog, and to open the opportunity for greater understanding between the questioner and respondent.
There was only one, made by anyone in the entertainment field, which was later apologized for, almost immediately and was quite mild. BTW, Chelsea truly was ugly, when the comment was made.
Name any candidate's child/children, who were gone after, as Sarah's kids were; just one, when the losing candidate was out of politics for months to a year. And Margaret Truman doesn't count, because that was a music critic, talking about a concert she had given.

There's a BIG difference between Reagan and Palin. Reagan simply ignored the criticism, and often looked like the better man than his critics (I was no Reagan fan, but that was an astute strategy on his part).
On the other hand, Palin reacts to every slight, real or perceived, with a disproportionate fury. Seriously, how much time has she wasted on press releases and Facebook posts and the like about the 19 year old father of her grandchild? This habit of hers has the cumulative effect of building up an image of the governor as a thin-skinned person always angling to settle scores. That was NOT a Reagan quality. That WAS a Nixon quality.
Palin has yet to show she can rise above anything, and that might be her undoing. I know that you all don't want to hear that, but I suspect this country would like to move beyond politicians with chips on their shoulders about everything.

Classy. On one hand you correctly state that politicians children should be off limits. But then you can't resist it and say that "Chelsea truly was ugly" anyway. Like it or not, people are very wary of politicians committing their countries to war based on what they think a 2000 year old religious text tells them to do. There are some people who have legitimate concerns if Ms. Palin ascribes to the whole nonsensical "end of times" belief system that seems to checker *some* of the military actions previous Republicans have launched in the Middle East. Palin has been kind of slippery about it, I suspect it's because she wants to have the evangelicals firmly in her camp by making them think she's in their camp about the "end of times".
Frankly, if we had a candidate that said that they consult the I-Ching before making policy decisions, the country would be aghast. No offense, I don't want a President making a decision to send our country to war based on the belief that if they launch the war that Jesus might come back. However, if they do want the war to bring Jesus back, how will they pay for it in the short term given our current deficits.

Sarah is the 2nd coming of Reagan. We need a hero and her and Glenn Beck are mine. She speaks the truth and doesn't need any party hacks to allign with. I remember when he addressed a joint session of congress over the budget deficit, where he look at the budget bill you could see he was ready to vomit on it.
Reagan also had something that Pailin doesn't have – yet. The prestige of the office of President to back him up. And the attacks from the left weren't nearly as well coordinated with all the various branches of Hollywood and pop culture.
This is a highly coordinated campaign against Palin. Back after the infamous Couric incident, some of the interview that was cut made it to youtube. And I can see why CBS cut it out. She comes across as a completely lucid, intelligent, gracious. Everything the left wants to portray her as lacking.
Currently she is a private citizen and chooses to reach the American public via Facebook, so what?
And if you think America has a politician in waiting with out a chip on their shoulder, I wouldn't hold your breath. Can you imagine the size of the ego needed to think only you can save the world?
Generally, I find conservative candidates for the Presidency to be rather interchangeable. At the end of the day, the last four or five campaigns on the GOP side have proposed roughly the same policy ideas. There's not anything really that different between Pawlenty and Palin in terms of proposals.
But, in the spirit of amping down the rhetoric, would you agree that it would be an entirely fair question to ask ANY politician running for office that in the event that they would order our country to war, just how such a war would be paid for and how would we find the troops to carry out the mission? We've been burned way too much with wars that are launched without much thought given to the economic consequences. Frankly, if Palin really wanted to separate from the "fiscal conservative" pack, she'd emphatically say in interviews that it was irresponsible for the Bush Administration to keep the costs of Iraq and Afghanistan off the books in an effort to make people think the deficit was lower than it actually was.

If she actually walked back some of her statements that make people in the middle wonder if she's going to use the office of the Presidency to achieve religious prophecy, I'd be pleasantly surprised. If she said that a person can believe in both God and the Evolutionary process, and that it wasn't necessary for religious theory to be taught in science class, I'd be relieved. If it makes you feel better, I have a suspicion that Palin doesn't really believe the holy-roller Rapture crap, but she wants the Evangelicals to think that she does.
However, if she wants to be President, with our current deficits, just how would she fund additional wars if she felt they were necessary. I think the days of "warfare is free" have long since passed.

I was pointing out a few "dirty" tactics that have been use, over the past two hundred years+, that have been used against candidates and office holders………..showing that none have been as horrific as that which was and still is being used against Sarah Palin.

If you would research her policy in Alaska you would know that she followed the Alaskan Consitution when she made decisions. She governed using the rule of law, not her personal beliefs.

Now, since she is not answering the attacks made against her, the anti-Palin blogs are saying that she does not answer them because they must be stating facts. So, she is Da–ed is she does and da–ed is she doesn't. Since the maternity of her last son seems to have hit a dead end, they are now going after her first son by questioning his paternity. But, no, that is alright, after all it is only Sarah Palin.

I wouldn't say the rumor about Jefferson and Hemings was completely unfounded. DNA testing has proven that at least one of her children was fathered by a male in Jefferson's family: either himself, one of his sons, his brother, or one of his brother's sons. And from every available source, the children resembled Jefferson pretty closely. Even Jefferson's grandson admitted they all looked alike and there was some obvious Jefferson blood in their veins. Unproven rumors? Yes, absolutely. Unfounded? No, not necessarily. Some male in that immediate family was fathering children with Sally Hemings, that's absolutely true.

Sally was Thomas Jefferson's wife's HALF SISTER. It wouldn't be surprising that Sally's children looked something like Martha Jefferson's offspring.
I have read all of the reports and stories and IF Sally had a child who had Jeffersonian DNA, it was most probably from one of his two nephews who were rakes.
From all evidence, Thomas Jefferson was rather straight laced, when it came to "relationships" and having an affair with his wife's 1/2 sister, who was a slave, was something not in his nature.

Even the best raised people sometimes make mistakes. My brother committed suicide at the age of 40 after a life of drug addiction. I have never been in trouble and enjoy a very successful life with a great family. We both grew up in the same environment, so what was the difference? PERSONAL CHOICES. I chose to stay out of trouble…he didn't. And why the slam on abstinence-only education, anyway? When exactly has abstinence EVER resulted in a pregnancy? The success of any program is only as good as the choices made by those who are participating.

Sarah Palin should have been one of them (aka "the media"). She has the pedigree (journalism degree from mid-tier university) and the good looks. But Palin simply smashed the stereotype right out of them. She is actually the complete opposite of every middle-aged, attractive TV journalist working today. And everyone can clearly see that she is well-spoken, smart, impatient with liberal idiots, confident, trustworthy, sensible….the list could go on.
She was supposed to be one of them, but turned out infinitely better. It makes people who already hate themselves and their country absolutely livid. She shouldn't exist! How dare she attempt to speak out, to steal our thunder and our agenda's thunder.

Kathy Griffin is one of those people I look at and wonder how someone like her can make the amount of money she does. She seems to be following the career path of a lot of female comedians… especially when there are sooo many more interesting people out there.
First they are comedians, then they try for movie or TV success, they start to fade… then they marry losers who cause problems that get them minor headlines… then the claim they were molested… then they claim the are addicted to something… then the say they are lesbians… then they wind up with a talk show that now one watches and only gets You-tube hits when a conservative website links to some dumb thing they said to attack a Conservative.
This Levi guy looks like he know who he has become, and that self-loathing is going to lead him to a very short life. He just has that look in his eyes. The same look you see in former child actor's eyes when they are spiraling down… Then when they find him dead everyone in the MSM will mumble how sad it is, then immediately use his death to attack Sarah Palin.
