I impersonate no one. I advocated this two days after 9-11 and it's been obvious the Bush administration didn't have the stomach for it. And so it appears you haven't the stomach for it either. Brutality is the only answer when confronted by fanaticism. Time to grow a set.

It's interesting that today marks five years since Islamists took children hostage at the Beslan School in Russia. Up until that point, one thing I admired about Russia (in a respect-your-enemy sort of way) was its sense of self-preservation. I guess they like their oil and weapons deals with Iran more than civilization.

I always thought the worst thing the Muslims could do was mess with Russia — a country (as despicable as much of its history is) that doesn't deal in political correctness, and leftist hand-wringing. Now it seems like its a true paper tiger.

Jack brings up an interesting point: Just what is the endgame with these lunatics? I love his musings, but I fear we no longer have the resolve for such actions — especially with more administrations like this Islam-apologizing one in the White House now.

Nice question to ask at this time. Right now I do not think they fear us very much. Predators and Reapers just do not bring fear to the enemy. Sure they die but it is not the same as being meet on a ridge line by a well trained Infantry Squad.

These Islamofascists have a long history of getting down on their knees when facing hard leaders who are willing to go after them in an aggressive manner – from Assad in Syria and Mubarrak in Egypt crushing the Muslim Brotherhood to Saddam Hussein to the Russians. The only time the Islamofascists show any "courage" is when facing governments who will not fire on them – the Shah in Iran. The Islamofascists have no fear of the Europeans and bring terror after terror attacks. The task of the US is to hammer them relentlessly until they are extinct or hiding in their caves where they belong.

I give thanks every day for the U.S. airman, sailor , soilder and marine that show the terrorist the error of their ways. The U.S. would be nothing without these heros.

David, why don't you educate me as to the distinction between war and "response and retribution?" Are we still talking about large amounts of people dying? If so, then does your distinction really exist?

It's easy to sit behind a keyboard and talk about war, but I suspect that most of the well-fed upper-middle class people posting on this site would shit their pants if our country were invaded. The people (like the author) who talk about war and the killing of large amounts of people so cavalierly remind me of Muslim fundamentalists… oh wait, they worship a slightly different God. This is a prime example of the Leftist tendency to tell people to shut up.

Allow me to explain: According to the Left, only a soldier or former soldier can speak in favor of a war, but anyone at all may speak against it. By calling the civilian war-supporter a chickenhawk, the Leftie (who is against the war in progress) hopes to either shame the civilian onto his side or shame the civilian into military service.

This leads to two dilemmas:

1) If the Leftie succeeds in shaming the civilian over to his side, the civilian is now speaking out against the war only because he doesn't want to go — in other words, he is doing so out of cowardice. This would make sense with a draft, but not with an all-volunteer military, as service is not mandatory. If there are enough of such people on the Leftie's side, groups opposed to the Leftie can point out that his anti-war movement is made up of a bunch of cowards, making the Leftie and his movement look like a bunch of jerks.

2) If the Leftie succeeds in shaming the civilian into military service, he just added to the troops fighting the war he opposes, thus making him complicit in the so-called "illegal war" by his recruiting activities. With each new recruit enlisted, he only digs himself deeper.

The trick to an effective chickenhawk argument is to favor the war while being military or former military.

What one must be careful of, however, is taking credit for the military's victories, i.e. saying that "we" won this or that war when we didn't fight at all. We are not at all the same as those who do fight, but just because we are not over there does not mean that we must stoop to the level of calling our soldiers all kinds of vile names. We must simply pay respect without making our role seem so grandiose and momentous.

Or, we can just end this whole discussion by only allowing soldiers to speak either for or against war.

Wait, I forgot a dilemma: If a soldier or former soldier tells the Leftie that the war is just, the Leftie, by the logic of his own chickenhawk argument, must accept it.

Hence, "chickenhawk" means "shut up."

As someone who lives in NYC and had family friends killed in the WTC disaster, I have not been in a "comma" since 9/11. In fact, I haven't been in a coma either (nitwit.)

Pretty much. I even saw a milblogger who had actually deployed to the Gulf be called a chickenhawk. Why? Because he was stationed at the port Kuwait City (he was in the Navy, headed up some port security detail, IIRC) so it didn't "count" in their eyes.

OTOH, some current and former military personnel do jump quite hard on these weasels and it's mildly amusing to watch the weasels sputter.
