Moe, Eli, Fred, Nathan, Golani, everyone take a step back, count to ten, and face reality. Christianity and Islam each have histories many centuries old, across three continents, and 3-5 centuries on a couple more. Each has infiltrated into many different cultures, morphing each time they did so. (It is not coincidence that Osama b-L found refuge among the warring tribes of the Hindu Kush, who have always been fighting each other or someone else for the last 5000 years, no matter what their religion was). Islam did get its big break through a campaign of conquest, while Christianity had to wait 300 plus years for its first big chance to sell out to the Roman Empire, but members of both faiths have been all over the map from pacificism to brutality here and there, at one time or another. (The Byzantine and Sassanian empires were both rotten with corruption and exhausted from fighting each other, so it was a ripe time for a new empire to move in anyway — most of the subject populations were fine with the change). Put two members of either faith together from several centuries apart, they would have trouble recognizing each other, even quoting from the same scriptures. As to science, Islamic cultures saved and enhanced science during Europe's dark ages, then passed the torch (unplanned, but it happened) to the Renaissance, just as Islam went into its own dark ages of intolerant sects and schisms. Incidentally, the caliphates provided refuge to large Jewish populations during years of Christian persecution, and then some sects arose which persecuted Jews in the name of Islam. And some Christians today do deny obvious scientific facts, perhaps because they haven't noticed that the framework for evolutionary biology has been in Genesis from the beginning — God knew, we simply weren't smart enough to figure it out.

What we face now is not a war with militant Islam. That's like saying the USA was at war with militant Christianity when the FBI was tracking down Eric Rudolph, or engaging in overkill with a few settlers on Ruby Ridge. What we face is a war with a militant sect of Muslims. There is a difference. Since there are some billion or so Muslims in the world, we would be idiots NOT to distinguish between Islam and al-Qaeda. We must make such distinctions if we don't want to hand a billion potential jihadists over to what is now a rather tiny enemy. Nor is it true that no Muslims condemned al Qaeda. Many have, but if you carefully screen those voices out, you can create the illusion that all Muslim voices are condemning America. Remember that many American Muslims are fifth-generation. Their ancestors arrived to work in factories in the 1890s or so.

Finally, we should stop leaving the name of God untranslated from Arabic into English. Muslims do not worship a god named Allah. Muslims worship The God, in Arabic, al-Lah. That is the word for God in Arabic language Christian Bibles, because there is no other word available. The call to prayer, fully translated, is "there is no god but The God." That ought to give us a bit of common ground to work with.

When a Christian commits a crime (murder, rape etc.), he doesn't do it in the name of Christianity. He's not murdering for Jesus. He's not raping for the Holy Spirit. He is simply one rogue person, and Christians are quick to denounce his behavior. Christians will help the victims and their families, while assuring that the perpetrator comes to justice.

Islam, by contrast, does none of this. The criminal is lauded and given a hero's burial. Celebrations are held because the "infidels" have been killed. There is no outrage among Muslims at the deeds of other Muslims. No one speaks out against the rogue behavior of the fanatic, who proudly proclaims that he kills, rapes, destroys in the name of Allah.

Show me one Christian in the last 100 years who has slaughtered at least one person in the name of Christ, who was given a hero's recognition by the fanatics, and tsk-tsked by the moderates, and I will concede you have a case. All it takes is one person. (Hitler doesn't count, as he worked for the glory of the State, not the Glory of God.) Cite your sources.

I've been out of the comic writing business for several years (Couldn't handle the fan boys) but I do continue to write for my own personal enjoyment and have cobbled together a consolidated universe over the years. An unholy alliance between Islamic States, Socialism, and the UN plays a central role as the major villains in that universe.

At least one character shares an absolute hate of Islam and a friendship with of all fictional characters: Dracula. The reasoning behind this the one character lost his parents to a terrorist attack in Israel, and Dracula hates it for what became of his brother.

Excellent point.

Martin Luther King condemned those who were using the Bible to justify their racist sins. King didn't make excuses for these "Christians." (On this level, King was very must like Frederick Douglas who refused to ignored slave-owning "Christians.")

King was being a true Christian by not ignoring the twisting and abuse of his faith. The book of Jude in Bible alone backs him up.

So, as a moderate Muslim, Moe is going have to stand up to the al Qaeda types instead of remaining silent.
