Pigman: Your Grandfather’s Superhero Takes On Jihad
by Bosch FawstinI think the best way to introduce myself here is to post a modified version of the introduction to my new book, ProPiganda: Drawing the Line Against Jihad.
Though I was born into a Muslim family, I became interested in Islam only after 9/11/01 when 19 Muslims murdered 2,996 human beings in the name of Islam. Those who always gave a damn for the truth did their homework and found out first hand what Islam really meant before they said one word about it. But then there were the politicians and the ideologues. Even before the smoke cleared, Western politicians and intellectuals who knew nothing about Islam could not wait to exonerate it by uttering the anti-reality check of our time: “Islam means peace.” This ensured that a rational response to jihad by those in power would be sold out in the name of political correctness and multiculturalism. And though we have come to expect most of our politicians to be unprincipled whores, if enough of us were willing to know what must be known about the enemy and his religion, we could pressure these hacks to actually do their job and protect us without apology. Instead, our culture’s willful ignorance about Islam and its jihad has allowed our leaders to do just enough to give us the impression that they’re defending us. It’s as if they’ve decided that, while the protection of America is optional, the defense of Islam is absolute.
My response to all this is my upcoming graphic novel, “The Infidel,” to be released as a series beginning this summer. It’s a story about American twin brothers, Killian Duke and Salaam Duka, whose Muslim background comes crashing to the forefront of their lives on 9/11/01. They end up choosing opposite sides of the war, which breaks their once strong bond. In the fallout of the attacks, Killian rejects Islam and turns his art into a weapon, creating a pigskin-clad superhero, Pigman, who exploits the enemy’s pigotry and becomes the jihadist’s worst nightmare. Salaam’s reaction to the attacks is a diametrically opposite one: he fully submits to the faith he is determined to personify. It’s the Pigman comic book which forces the twins into an escalating conflict that is echoed in Pigman’s battle against his archenemy, SuperJihad.
In a world where men fly planes into towers and are celebrated as heroes by the vile culture that breeds them, we need a new kind of hero that symbolizes our battle against such evil. An icon against jihad who does the right thing no matter how bad it looks, and who brings an unprecedented ruthlessness to the enemy. A hero who is a great villain to all those who had a good day on 9/11/01. Ready or not, here comes Pigman.

During the last few years that I’ve spent researching and creating the book, I posted about it on my blog, creating original images and essays about the ideas and characters within it. After the number of them reached over 100, I decided to collect them into a book I’ve titled ProPiganda: Drawing the Line Against Jihad.
And here’s a little something I put together for my first post at Big Hollywood:

I'll be looking for this. I think my husband will as well. I'll likely be more interested in the book, but he, being the comic collecter that he is, will like the graphic novel. Both pieces should do very well in my ever-expanding Islam education collection if they fulfill their promise.
You're a better man than I am, Bosch Fawstin (closest thing I could think of to bring Kipling into the fray). This will bring out the howls, the death threats, the fatwahs, and all the things you will be addressing in your work, except that this time it will all be aimed at you. Boldly done, and I wish you well.
Congratulations, Bosch, on getting the word out about Pigman and The Infidel. To those unfamiliar with Bosch's work, I urge you to seek out his debut work entitled Table For One for a strong clue about the artistry and intelligence this modern day master storyteller brings to his craft. I recently bought a copy of ProPIGanda, and it is not to be missed. It is filled with thought-provoking essays about the all-too-real threat of jihad, as well as a boat-load of Pigman illustrations, all of which are jaw-droppingly intense, appropriately brutal, and awe-inspiringly beautiful.
I'll second that.
Mr. Fawstin you are a very brave man, and good luck in all your endeavors. I'm looking forward to getting this.
Congrats on a great looking-book, Bosch! Very striking graphics and images.
There's a company with balls enough to print this?
"ProPiganda" doesn't pull punches. The cartooning is first rate! And it is only an appetizer for "The Infidel". Can't wait. Go for it, Bosch!
I can't wait to see the book burning ceremonies from the tolerant Left. Did everyone see the South Park super hero episode. A clip: http://www.popmodal.com/video/2211/The-Coon—Sou...
I'm a fan of any man who's a fan of Black Jack Pershing! This is the Muslims third attempt to destroy the rest of civiliization, and it will be their last. Glad you're here!
Right on! This looks great. Reaching kids with this is excellent. If we've ever been in a war suitable for the graphic novel treament — with such a lurid and remorselessly evil enemy — this is it. CAIR and our culture's quislings will scream but just that means you've hit the bullseye.
God be with you. It's amazing.
Yes, God bless you for your integrity and bravery sir!
Can't wait to buy this, it sounds terrific. Hope I'll find a local distributor.
You're a good man, Bosch. Just took a spin by your blog…creativity with balls to boot. Welcome to Big Hollywood.
What kind of fellow is required? Why, one who "brings an unprecedented ruthlessness to the enemy."
Just so and nothing less.
The very best of luck to you.
Controversy aside, it really does seem like an intriguing, original plot.
Very Interesting…. Can't wait to check it out…..I got about 15 pages into WATCHMEN and put it down…BORING.
The premise sounds very interesting. Its about time someone shed some light on this death cult called ISLAM and
and helped all us bitter, Christians, especially us knuckledraggers in the South understand things better and what could be better than a graphic novel….LOL. Can't wait to read it !!!!!
Thanks to everyone for the good words; I always appreciate it. Mike, Batton & Jackie, great to see you here.
GaryEaton, there must be a publisher with the "balls" to take this on, but for now my O'ink Comics imprint will have to do. But I am All Ears.
Raven, this is not for kids. It will have some profanity and some violence, of necessity because of the ugliness of Jihad.
dr_nic, not sure if you're a retailer, but for ordering information you can visit my site or e-mail: bosch.fawstin@gmail.com
Thomas, I'm glad you find the plot interesting, that's important to me.
I love the blog, man!
I will be buying your books as soon as possible!
Good luck!
Big Hollywood Kudos to you for self-publishing and being the bravest dude in comics today.
I wanted to call my graphic novel that! SOmebody beat me to it.
Well, that's my fault. Good luck.
[...] Big Hollywood… Though I was born into a Muslim family, I became interested in Islam only after 9/11/01 when 19 Musl… Those who always gave a damn for the truth did their homework and found out first hand what Islam [...]
Hmm, very curious. Will you reveal the reasons why jihad exists? The lack of assurance upon death of one's fait and the supposed assurance than can only come from death in jihad? Will you bring to light what the Kuran says Muhammed taught after he raped and pillaged his way through Meca after his many years in Medina? Will you discuss who and what "Allah" really is? The moon god of one of the many tribes of ancient arabia. I hope you do, few know what Islam really is(I don't, only some). I hope you shed light on the Truth. Orthodox Islam is death to all who don't bow down before it.
Thank you, Mr. Fawstin, for having the guts to create this important (and I'm sure, entertaining) work of art.
I definitely wanna read your stories.
Great job. Good luck on the launch.
You guys are a bunch of hypocrites. There is no people on earth more blood thirsty then christians. They have killed more people then all other religions combined and continue to do so. You talk peace but you are always at war, why, because of the evil and hatred thats in your hearts for any one who not of your religion. For christians to talk about another faith of being violent is laughable. What a joke
Moe, you may be right to a certain extent BUT and here's the kicker, We have EVOLVED, islam has not. We know where we were wrong and have moved on, islam has not. Islam hatred is still fueled by centuries old "feuds". Time to move on.
Moe will now, I am sure, attempt to explain just why the actual facts bear absolutely no resemblance to his anti-Christian allegations.
Moved on? Lets talk about the last 20 years. count the numbers how many people have christians killed compared to how many people have muslims killed. No comparison
It's about free speech, which is what gives all of us the right to express our opinions right here on this page. As far as "religion" killing people, I don't blame any religion for killing anyone. Religion is like a gun; someone has to hold it, aim it, and pull the trigger. No one's religious beliefs ever killed anyone; it's people who do the killing, using religion as an excuse. As far as the graphic novel goes, there are plenty of examples of equally offensive cartoons, jokes, books, and other materials worldwide that would offend any number of other religions, races, or groups. Here in the USA, there is a massive amount of material horribly offensive to Christians, for example. There has been plenty of killing to go around on the part of both major religions, but keep in mind that the grand total of all "faith-based deaths" since the beginning of recorded history does not even come to a tiny fraction of the ideologically-based slaughter that has occurred here on our planet. Just add up the hundreds of millions killed by Mao, Hirohito, Stalin, and Hitler during the 20th century. It's in the hundreds of millions.
You claim islam is the biggest threat to america but lets be honest how many non muslims have muslims killed. If you really think about it its not that many. This so called was on terror has cost us almost $2 trillion. What a bunch of idiots we had in the white house. There is no way bin ladin could have taken us down. But with us spending all this money on these stupid wars he doesnt have to we’ll just go broke. And if that happens we’ll just kill each other.
Well moe, why don't YOU enlighten us as to how many and please back up your allegations with FACTS.
I'm thinking you must be muslim moe, I can't think of anyone else would defend it so vehemently if that were not the case. I can "taste" the hatred in your posts/comments. Look at what islam is doing to England and the rest of Europe, bombing and killing anyone who doesn't believe in their "religion of peace". Go on deny that one MOE.

Oh and let's not forget the OUTRAGE over a cartoon of their beloved "peace loving" Mohammed. Give us a break already.
You have a sad view of humanity. I also don't care for your Christian bashing which is juvenile. Quit pulling your sayings out of thin air. It's all lost on you.
Yes i am a muslim. Just cant stand how if a muslim does anything doesnt matter whether hes religious or not all of islam gets attacked. You guys are nuts. If i were to bring up all the things christians do (murder, rape, ect…) id be here all year trying to count them all but i dont . Ill give you an example. violence against women you guys always claim we abuse them but i dont know any muslim that does that not one but you guys act like we all do it. On the other hand i just read a report that said 25% of all women here in america are abused where is your outrage about that why not condem all of america for it. Btw 80% of americans are christians.
You dont care for my christian bashing? Doesnt feel good does it to have your faith attacked. I dont want to do it but you guys leave me no choice. You stop bashing my faith and ill stop bashing yours. See how that works, simple isnt it
I want facts not just a tool throwing words around like murder and rape. I serve the risen Savior. 80% claim to be Christian if that number is indeed true. People can claim to be anything. If they are out raping and pillaging that means they aren't Christian but hypocrites and sinners that need a Savior. Stop trying to villafy true Christianity which requires sacrifice and brings about a changed life, heart, and mind. True Christianity can change the world for the better. Not destroy it.
Listen im a muslim american and im a fair guy. Unlike you guys i dont think all muslims are good and all christians are evil. There are plenty of times i see muslims on tv that do some crazy sh+t to the point where if i had the chance id want to kill them but do you know how many muslims there are in the world. I mean come on if we muslims did the same thing and scrutinized every thing a christians says and does in the whole world you dont think we can make christianity look bad ?
Yea we,ve all seen what true christianity can do. Thank god we are a secular nation.
Please enlighten me as to what true Christianity can do.
Christians didnt become civillized until they became secular. Think about it we are governed by secular laws and we should keep it that way
Christianity is against science just the other day the pope said using condoms causes more hiv/aids in africa. Thats just stupid is it not
Christians are not against science please stop throwing around statements without doing your homework. Also, Christian and secular is contradictory. Again, tell me what true Christianity is.
As a muslim i cant stand alqeada but what can i do. Thing is there are crazys out there. But you cant deny that there are alot of good muslims out there combating them. Muslims are on the front lines. But invading muslim countries doesnt help, neither does condeming all of islam. It only sends them more sympathizers and fighters.
Gee, Moe, I think the peoples of ancient Arabia, Persia, India, North Africa, and Spain might disagree. Islam spread itself violently by the sword. The lack of Zoroastrians, Nestorian Christians, the various pagan Arab cultures, many Middle Eastern jewish tribes (who are as native the Middle East as the Arabian peoples), various North African peoples, etc., would disagree with you.
As a muslim i cant stand alqeada but what can i do.
Be as sober and vocal about not standing them as you are being about defending your religion. Muslims are on the front lines, and they are being aided heavily by the "invaders" of Muslim countries. Many Christians are on those same front lines. You spoke earlier about secularization being a civilizing power in regard to Christianity. Do you advocate the secularization of Muslim countries as well? That kind of advocacy from Muslims would be a great blow against groups like al Qaeda.
Bosch, will the "series" be a series of graphic novels or a monthly mag which will eventually be collected into a graphic novel?
Hi there, I have been reading and learning a lot on this fab webiste. Thanks for the help with cardsharing.
I’ve just got my brand new dreambox 500s receiver from dvbseller.com for 48GBP
I know its a import clone but it all looks and appears brilliant.
Now, I am looking for best value cardshare supplier.
I have spent the past 4 days seeking and have filtered it down to these suppliers SatCard costing 140GBP for the year.
They give a lot of channels for that and Im in th UK, so is this average deal?
Has anyone had experiance using this provider?
Is theere better providers out their?
Your help is very welcome.
Pt. 1
Moe, defending yourself by trying to point to what you perceive to be similar flaws in someone else is not a good defense.
And considering that the average condom does not provide a full-proof barrier to the HIV/AIDS virus proven in studies, I'd say the Pope was right to warn against using condoms as the only means to prevent HIV/AIDS. A 1993 study by the University of Texas found a 31% failure rate in AIDS prevention when condoms were used to prevent AIDS. That's because the tiny holes in a latex condom are actually bigger than the size of the AIDS virus.
Pt. 2
That doesn't mean that every single virus particle in every encounter escapes, but it does mean that that critical one or two could. Of course, you can't catch HIV from every sexual encounter from an infected person either. Odds for unprotected vaginal are roughly 1/1000. Add the condom to your already low chances, and things look good.
Now think about this: tell people that condoms are 99% effective as most people think. They tend to have more sex than they already do. Sexual encounters go up; the odds of sex with infected people go up. The chances of infection go up. At some point, you pass any benefit a roughly 60% effective piece of rubber had to begin with in a population already riddled with disease.
PS. Moe,
Christians aren't at all against Science. Most of us believe it's the tool God gave us so that we could have dominion over this creation. Every day, science unlocks more of His work for me to marvel at. My husband is a highly successful biologist/microbiologist, Christian and feels the same.
Try The Language of God: A Scientist Presents Evidence for Belief by Francis S. Collins
Nice read.
get rid of all uslims as ALL muslims want to get rid of you!!!!
get rid of the 7th century stonae age a-holes and all our rag head problems will be over!!
.
I can not defend what some muslims do. I think there are too many fanatics out there. But for all those people the say kill’em all and nuke them and all that silly sh*t( and there is alot that say that) i see them in the same light as alqaeda. No difference.
Brigitteye. You make my point
Ah brigiteye thank you for that comment you have made my point
Moe, if you are the moderate you claim to be, then you need to stand up and denounce those who use the many violent verses in the Qur'an and the violent Hadith as justification for their actions. You need to organize your own against Wahhabism which holds that there will be no peace on earth until all the world is for Allah. Those of us in the other religions of the world have been begging for those like you to step forward. We know you exist; we know not every Muslim wants us to convert, submit to the jizya and dhimmitude, or die.
But it seems the only time you step forward is when someone offends your faith. You need to step forward when others of your faith step out of line or else we begin to wonder.
Ah, Moe, this makes our point. You will only be see what you want to see, and now you will leave feeling justified despite those of us who have said nothing of the sort.
Brigitteyee was wrong insofar as it goes, but she does make a poorly explained point. Very often the Muslims who do want us dead are the ones we need to get rid of; they will kill us and think nothing of it.
Can you deny that any of the 9/11 attackers wanted nothing less than to kill as many kuffaar as he could? How about any of the suicide bombers?
That is the most ignorant statement I've read in a long time…Factually wrong. Produce your proof. Typical way that Muslim's (Islamist's) or their apologist's, like to re-write history to justify their brutal actions…No Jewish holocaust for example..More Islamic wars going on right now all over the world…
Aharis. My goal is not to justify their stupid attacks it was to show you that there are extremists on both sides that want to just kill everybody and brigiteye just proved me right. And yes i will leave here happy that i made my point.
I'd like to see some facts too, was there another Crusade or Inquisition that happened in the past 20 years that I somehow missed?
And by Crusade Moe I mean an actual one, not a trumped up charge of crusaderism revolving around the wars against the Jihadi.
Sorry guys its been fun but i got to go. Busy watching tv. Peace
Or my personal favorite, the priest who was killed in Istanbul for saying Islam is not a religion of peace.
Irony apparently is lost on many of the faithful.
Sorry guys its been fun but i got to go. Busy watching tv. Keep the hate alive while im gone. Peace
I'm still waiting for what a true Christian is.
Gesundheit!
"You put your weapons away first, then I'll do the same." In all the long history of Muslim vs anyone-else relations, has this ever worked out well for the non-Muslims? Since the precedent of this tactic apparently was set by The Prophet during his time raiding caravans, I'll pass on accepting. If you want to prove you're some different type of Muslim, you go first.
Indeed, like the old saying goes:
If the Arabs put down their weapons, we'll have peace.
If the Israelis put down their weapons, then no more Israel.
That applies to the totality of the conflict now though, replace the word Arab with Jihadist, and Israel with US, UK, Philippines, India, etc. and it cuts to the heart of the matter.
Moe = Schmo

Gee, why is it guys like Moe won't demonstrate how "enlightened" they are by sticking their necks out and fighting against the Islamists? Oh yeah, they're too afraid of getting their heads chopped off by their brethren. When you're not willing to have courage in your convictions and pride in your beliefs, you have neither courage nor pride.
Is it just me, or do the tactics of these terrorists make the North Vietnamese look like noble warriors in comparison?
Additional: To those who say this is America, we must have tolerance and respect for other religious beliefs no matter what, I ask how tolerant you'd be of a religion which advocates sacrificing infants. You may figure out for yourself which one has adherents currently doing so to those not of their faith.
test
…and how do we count the Muslims killed by other Muslims? Now there's a number you will never get an honest answerr on. I suspect we are going to have to ignore the slaughters going on in Africa too. You know, being non Muslim and black is the worst of crimes.
It is not simple, Moe. You are right. Can you explain what good jihad is bringing to the world? As a Muslim, how do you feel about al Qaeda? Wahabism? You asked how many non-Muslims have Muslims killed. Is that some kind of barometer for the justifiability of their acts? What does the faith of the dead have to do with whether or not their death (by bombing, beheading, shooting or whatever) is murder that needs to be combated?
Thanks for the info on your comic. Superhero books (and I still read a bunch of them) almost never offer the true vicarious and cathartic wish-fulfillment that they used to. What made Superman great was that he kicked the crap out of the Nazis when we still didn't know if we could. Your art reminds me of course of Frank Miller and the costumes and story seem to have some good old-fashioned un-PC (and sadly under-appreciated) jingo and so I think I will really dig the Pig.
Very true. Scientific pioneers ranging from Galileo to Isaac Newton were Christian. Put another way, modern science wouldn't exist without Christianity.
Heck, I'm a Christian with a Civil Engineering background. So, the "Christian = anti-science" is as nutty as saying "Black men can't be scientists." (I'm Black by the way.)
@ Moe
In all fairness, harccore atheist scientists like Richard Dawkins believe Christianity, Islam, and other religions are anti-science.
So, I guess we're all science-hating infidels worthy of stoning as far as Dawkins is concerned.
@aharris
Excellent point.
Martin Luther King condemned those who were using the Bible to justify their racist sins. King didn't make excuses for these "Christians." (On this level, King was very must like Frederick Douglas who refused to ignored slave-owning "Christians.")
King was being a true Christian by not ignoring the twisting and abuse of his faith. The book of Jude in Bible alone backs him up.
So, as a moderate Muslim, Moe is going have to stand up to the al Qaeda types instead of remaining silent.
You weren't the one justified Moe, but if it makes you feel better that you got one thing you perceived as hateful out of … nearly two full pages of reason, I guess we rest our case.
PS – Next time you engage in a debate, bring some facts. They help.

Thanks to Scott, NeoconJedi, AJR & USSBen, much appreciated.
Peter,
I've learned more about Islam than I ever wanted to or needed to in order to tell my story, but I will focus on writing about the Big Truths about Islam, the ones that belie every illusion we currently hold about it, in as dramatic a way as I can.
A word on Islam: The greatest problem for Muslims who look to deflect criticism about Islam to all other faith-based belief systems is that their prophet was a murderer, among other evil things.
Once a belief system sanctions the murder of any and all who are non-believers, and its prophet literally acted on this, it has defined itself as evil and it does not deserve one iota of respect from any human being, 'Muslim' or not. In the end, for Muslims, Mohammed has to go. It's their clinging to this idea that he was a morally perfect man that has warped their minds into thinking that lying, stealing, cheating, raping and murdering is ok, so long as these evils are done in the name of Islam and against non-Muslims. Individual Muslims have their own individual ideas about what Islam is, most of those ideas benign, but dead wrong. Muslim murderers do not represent Muslims, but they do represent Mohammed, Islam and his Jihad. And Muslims who complain about every 'insult' against their religion [merely telling the truth about Islam is deemed an insult] have nonetheless not condemned Muslim terrorists by Islamic standards because they cannot.
You always hear non-terrorist Muslims say that al Qaeda does not represent Islam only because they do not want to be represented by al Qaeda, and by implication, they also don't want to be represented by Mohammed, whose own form of terrorism inspires al Qaeda. If Mohammed and his gang were to be transported into today's world, they would be al Qaeda.
space commando,
Unless I get an offer I can't refuse from a book publisher who wants to publish The Infidel as a one volume graphic novel as intended, it will be released as a series of chapters beginning this summer, to be collected when finished.
I don't believe in Allah and leaving Islam for Objectivism was the easiest thing in the world for me, but I must ask those who insist that all religions are interchangeable in their potential for violence in today's world to provide a 2009 list of the active Jewish, Christian, Hindu and Buddhist terrorist groups in similar number to the Muslim terrorist groups below.

Thanks so much for your insite Bosch. I would rather listen to a well informed person over an uninformed individual anyday. Your comic book looks like it's going to be VERY original and someone should pick it up, if they're not too scared that is.
I've been out of the comic writing business for several years (Couldn't handle the fan boys) but I do continue to write for my own personal enjoyment and have cobbled together a consolidated universe over the years. An unholy alliance between Islamic States, Socialism, and the UN plays a central role as the major villains in that universe.
At least one character shares an absolute hate of Islam and a friendship with of all fictional characters: Dracula. The reasoning behind this the one character lost his parents to a terrorist attack in Israel, and Dracula hates it for what became of his brother.
Danny
When a Christian commits a crime (murder, rape etc.), he doesn't do it in the name of Christianity. He's not murdering for Jesus. He's not raping for the Holy Spirit. He is simply one rogue person, and Christians are quick to denounce his behavior. Christians will help the victims and their families, while assuring that the perpetrator comes to justice.
Islam, by contrast, does none of this. The criminal is lauded and given a hero's burial. Celebrations are held because the "infidels" have been killed. There is no outrage among Muslims at the deeds of other Muslims. No one speaks out against the rogue behavior of the fanatic, who proudly proclaims that he kills, rapes, destroys in the name of Allah.
Show me one Christian in the last 100 years who has slaughtered at least one person in the name of Christ, who was given a hero's recognition by the fanatics, and tsk-tsked by the moderates, and I will concede you have a case. All it takes is one person. (Hitler doesn't count, as he worked for the glory of the State, not the Glory of God.) Cite your sources.
I just picked up the two-fer deal on your books. Looking forward to adding them to the wall of comics. I have seen Table for One at my local comic shop, so maybe The Infidel will get out here too. Good luck.
