Tom Hanks’ Fuzzy Math: Obama Has Saved ‘About a Billion Jobs’
by AWR HawkinsIn a June 22nd CNN interview, actor and director Tom Hanks proudly announced he will be voting for Barack Obama in 2012. That’s fine, because that’s his prerogative as a voter. As a matter of fact, I’m going to go ahead and announce right now that I won’t be voting for Obama in 2012: that I wouldn’t vote for him if someone took my dog hostage and threatened to make me listen Al Gore speeches from here to eternity unless I supported Obama.
But the important part of Hanks’ interview wasn’t the announcement about voting for Obama, it was the way in which he actually presented Obama as an accomplished president: as a president who really had brought hope and change instead of harm and economic disarray.
For example, Hanks said Obama had saved “about a billion jobs” at GM and Chrysler via the passage of the stimulus package. (I’m just going to go ahead and say Hanks is too intelligent to truly believe this. He was either talking tongue-in-cheek or he is a full blown victim of Obama-mania: a feverish disease which I thought had ceased to exist once the economy tanked a year into Obama’s presidency.)
Contrary to Hanks’ claims, Obama hasn’t added jobs to our economy. Rather, he has destroyed them. Thus, Obama’s promise in early 2009 that unemployment would never rise above 8% if the stimulus package was passed turned into unemployment as high at 10% (even with the stimulus package), and which now sits at 9.1% (thanks to Obama).
As a matter of fact, the damage Obama has done to our economy is so great that no less a liberal outlet than CBS News took time in October 2010 to point out: “The National Debt has increased by more than $3 trillion since President Obama took office.” (For those of us who’ve never thought about it, $3 trillion written out looks like this: $3,000,000,000,000.)
Need more proof of the damage Obama has done?
Consider this: while the nationwide unemployment average stands at 9.1%, the average for black Americans stands at 16.2%. It’s as if Obama has waged war on the black community.
Whatever happened to all that talk about spreading the wealth around?
It appears Obama has only been spreading poverty.
While there’s no doubt ideologues and die-hard liberals will still pull the lever for Obama in 2012, outside of those political extremists the numbers supporting Obama should be greatly diminished compared to 2010. For odds are, they will be worse off in 2012 than they were four years ago (and there’s a good chance they’re worse off right now).
Mr. Hanks is a good actor, dare I say a great actor, but the reasons he gives for supporting Obama simply cannot be stomached. To label Obama a job creator is to assign him a moniker as fake as Joe Biden’s hair plugs.
Hollywood can hold to the lie all they want, but out here where east meets west, where working men and women earn their dollars by the sweat of their brow, we’re not buying it.

Hey, Hanks. Stupid is as stupid does.
Tom,
Perhaps our President did save about a billion jobs… but you should also include the number of jobs that were lost because of him, too.
Surely you think that's fair. Right Mr. Hanks? Right?
Makes a person think Tom Hanks' entire life must be an act.
I'll take it for the record Lt. Dan Taylor will NOT be voting for Obama.
Thank you for weighing in, Mr. Gump.
It was a stupid thing to say. But not as stupid as blaming unemployment on ATMs.
How exactly do people quantify the number of jobs saved? This is the same voodoo math the government uses all of the time. Baseless Estimate – Reality = Liberal Success Amount
No fool like a liberal fool. May Larry Crowne crash and burn…
I used to like Tom Hanks but that stopped a long time ago when I saw his ignorant remarks and his liberal koolaid drinking views.
Yeah, he saved a billion jobs. Unfortunately, none of them were in the USA.
One of my favorite Actors, its to bad that he is a dunce in real life. Good lord man anybody with half a brain can see how Obama and a willing Congress and Senate is destroying the private sector, and along with that the government sector, since there is not going to be anybody to pay for it. If he was so good, why did him and his party take such a beating in the 2010 mid term elections, the losses was staggering if you look at not only on the Federal Level but the State and local levels as well. And 2012 is not looking good either, for his highness and his buddies. I can't control much of anything, but I can control what movies I will see and what I will not, the box office has not been all that great there Forrest!
Where to start? These Hollywoodians are such total hypocrites! They paint themselves as more compassionate than the evil corporations. They care about people.
While their very names are trademarks. They are, themselves, products. If they are introduced by name that is a commercial. Everything about them is geared toward SELLING.
It doesn't bother them that people have to work hours to earn the price of a movie ticket or that it takes a day's work or more to scare up admission to a live appearance. And when they have a "project" they are out of Hollywood and on the road to a non-union, no-tax location.
Like every left-wing airhead, Hanks believes he has a moral obligation to help get Obama re-elected. And that is about the limit of what left-wing airheads know about morals.
Taking political advice from an actor or musician is like taking political advice from a circus clown.
Never pay for movie ticket again with any of these Liberal propagandists involved.
Wow, Hanks. Understatement of the year — I heard it was more like eleventy kabillion.
As everyone knows, Obama farts rainbows and sneezes sunshine, and he smells better than the dude in the Old Spice commercials.
Hanks knows what's in that box of chocolates. It's as empty as the suit in the Whitehouse.
I'm beginning to think ole Tom Hanks is a little post traumatic from his Private Ryan gig.
Let's face it. There is a reason Hanks is just "another pretty face" and not an economist. Good thing his day job is acting.
The Clueless leading the Blind. We just need to Educate the Blind and leave the Clueless on their own.
Wow, Josh Baskin had more serious, mature thought patterns than Hanks exhibits with this statement.
Liberals just say whatever they feel like saying. Doesn't have to be a fact….to be true in their world. Hanks is an idiot for saying this crap.
Hanks was just talking about the no-show union jobs that Obama saved with his intervention.
The actual unemployment numbers are double the phony ones put out by the Government; if fact all of the un- or underemployment is over 22%.
Any of us who actually have a clue need to boycott every film — new and old — that features any of these Hollywood jackasses. We need to boycott every mainstream (leftist propagandizing) television network and every one of their publications. Let's keep reminding ourselves that we're the majority in this country, thank God, and not fools like Hanks. Way to insult your audience, Tommy Boy.
What he meant to say was… He made "about a billion" off his last job
I was amazed at the amount of people who don't care about auditing our gold supply. It is rumored that there is none because the Federal Reserve seized it as collateral against our debt.
Then I thought, these people don't care because our gold supply and the gold standard have to do with reality. They prefer "fuzzy math" or the comfort of meaningless numbers being fed to them by the government and media. They prefer an oracle. A Ben Bernanke. That is why I liken leftism to mysticism.
Tom has never evolved from his break-out movie BIG! A kid put into an adult body trying to cope with reality. Now he is a big star trying to cope with…………REALITY. Sorry Tom, the majority of America see you as "Forrest Gump" Sweet but dumb.
Is there any truth to the rumor that Tom Hanks' next starring role is in "Kool-Aid: The Movie"?
"Voodoo math"
I like it.
I shall use this phrase.
Eleventy kabillion times eleventeen! That was great. Thanks.
…if not for this comment, then for Julia Roberts' guffaw, which is once again on display in the commercial trailer.
I like Tom Hanks! Its sad to see that he has dementia at such a young age.
I know a secret that will make everything Hanks says make sense. You know that Oscar he won for Forrest Gump? He wasn't acting.
Why not 6 billion?
I once heard a hollywood twit, around Christmas time, say that we should bring back our boys who are millions of miles away from home.
The problem with hollywood is that they are all idiots. They are programmed to read and memorize someone else's words and move according to someone else's commands. They are mindless robots and should never never try to think or say anything technical or mathematical. Most hollywood twits have never even graduated from a real high school.
While most normal people use both left and right hemispheres equally, it seems that these hollywooders all have broken or defective left hemispheres, meaning that they can only feel or grope their way through life. Their analytic powers are zero.
He is having a Forest Gump moment!
Hanks is a great actor, but all his time in Hollywood has clearly atrophied his brain. His is one of the worst cases of Obamamania that I've seen. He needs to STFU and go back to making movies. Of course, I could say that about 99% of Hollywood, but I digress.
Mr. Hanks, 1.2 Million jobs have been lost due to this con man. You're not very informed are you? He's a textbook sociopath and an anti semite. You're a horrible judge of character. Maybe when there isn't enough coal mining to produce anymore electricity for those movies that you make, you'll get it.
If by "saved" he means "destroyed", then he's correct.
Hanks is just towing the re-election line for Obama…
If at first you don't succeed, lie, lie again!
What a contrast: liberal idiot Tom Hanks vs frickin awesome patriot Gary Sinise. I've always been a huge fan of Sinise and I used to like Hanks, too.
I will definitely be skipping his next movie with Julia Roberts (it looks like it's gonna be terrible anyway).
About as stupid as the White guilt types who support Cain. Notice that when Whites had pride in their race none of this would have been transpiring?
Dear Mr. Hanks,
Thank you for your dedication to WWII vets. That's very cool of you.
But… Peter Scholari was funnier.
Sincerely,
Syvyn11
This whole "save or created x amount of jobs" nonsense is akin to a gambler losing $10,000 at the poker table but cheering and gloating that he won $100 at the slot machine.
Leftwing Hollywood airheads need to stick to what they do best, reciting lines others have written for them and doing drugs.
What do actors, football players, basket ball players, singers etc have in common? agents, assistants, accountants, managers.
Because they are rich due to over inflated and well managed salaries everyone assumes them to be clever, trust me, once you get a lot of money, you can be dumb as a rock and most of them are.
There was a list out at one time that listed all the big shots who liked to run their mouths at every opportunity, most had never finished high school.
One that I do have respect for is Bruce Willis, I believe he was asked one time why he did not chime in on all the usual issues, he replied that as he did not know all the facts he preferred to keep his mouth shut! thank you Bruce.
Yeah, but now the people are on to the game the Hollywood 'eliet' are up to. We (or most of those fooled) won't be fooled again.
"Tom Hanks’ Fuzzy Math: Obama Has Saved ‘About a Billion Jobs’"
What a coincidence! Tom Hanks has influenced "about a billion" metro-sexuals.
Can someone tell me what a 'job saved' is? By Obama-Logic, you can say every job in the USA is one Obama saved. And they can repeat that metric every day. Sooner or later, they'll get to a billion.
I hate it when I think like a liberal.
Agreed!
It's liberal accounting where you celebrate the credits and ignore the debits. And if you question the leftwing lunatics over their Enron style accounting they just call you a racist.
BTW, equally absurd as "saved jobs" is "green jobs." A green job is relaxing on the beach collecting a welfare check.
It's time to switch from dumb blonde jokes to dumbass actor jokes.
I think you nailed it. "Hey, I"m raking it in as much as ever so everyone else must be doing just fine too!" Must be nice to live in La-La Land where you don't have to deal with the reality most others have to deal with. Hey Tom, a little advice: just shut up and stick with your day job. I don't think you've got much of a future at a think tank anytime soon.
When oh, when will Hollywood liberals just shut the f__ up about sh__ they nothing about?
Gads, Hollywood liberals are like B.O. without the teleprompter, total idiots.
Does Hanks want to have Obama's baby? I think a lot of Obamatons do.
For a while now, I've had the impression that Tom Hanks is a very talented entertainer who is just really not terribly bright. This latest just adds to that impression.
The only jobs I've heard of being added was government jobs in the growing useless bureacracy. Obama sucks as does all of these Obamazombies. They must be putting LSD in their Kool Aid these days to come up with the outrageous lies they spew.
After a couple of movies, Hanks and his big nose get kind of old.
Sieg Heil!
Hanks has gained about a billion pounds and lost about a billion hairs.
He may wish to believe it, and he may influence a few to believe him, Tom Hanks, in his heart knows the truth. I wouldn't hold it against him, or his movies, because he actually has done outstanding work as an American promoting the strength, courage, and patriotism of those who served both in WWII and in the NASA space program. He also gave a human face to those who have suffered and died of Aids, (no matter what you believe about how and why they got it.)
But his wishing about Obama doesn't make it so. And most people see this recovery for what it is. In little children, the term is called Failure to Thrive. Its a good enough moniker for the Obama Recovery.
Most actors and actresses live in their own little make believe world. Hanks is no different. In his world, Utopia is just around the corner. He's oblivious to the problems because they just don't exist in his little made up world.
GM and Chrysler have been firing thousands of people for years. They are not hiring.
I'm not so stupid as to let Alicia Silverstone lead ME anywhere
Phil Ivey NEVER plays the slots.
He shoots craps.
Most actors are dolts in real life.
Ok, I know everyone is thinking of Forest Gump jokes but really, it looks more like he wasn't acting stupid, that was his natural mindset. For Hollywood millionaires everything is fine. Hanks-Gump is still living the good life, still living in a mansion, still not sweating the price of groceries, so Obama is doing hunky dory.
For normal people who aren't rich or living on foodstamp, things kind of suck. Hanks-Gump is isolated from the normal world. The closest he gets to normal people are the people who get him a bottled water and drive him to interviews. Do you think they'll still have a job if they tell him things aren't so good for working people? I kind of doubt it.
Ok, I question a lot of assertions made on BH, Im not gonna lie about that , but I have to call pure and total BS (Id spell it out, but I cant without being flagged) on this:
"once the economy tanked a year into Obama’s presidency"
Yeah…totally not true. The economy was already WAY tanked before the election ever took place. As a 2009 (MAY 2009) law school graduate, everyone in my class knew the economy was "tanked" way before Obama ever got in (evidenced by the fact that no one was hiring even young lawyers with 7+ years of post-graduate education.
I know this because I explicitly remember having conversations as far back as late 07 when friends and I would discuss the upcoming election and say things like "no matter who wins this, they will probably be a one-term president, because no one will be able to get us out of this in 4 years."
This is not a defense of Barack Obama, but a calling of a pure and utter lie on the part of the author of this piece in making the assertion that January 2010 (a year from when Obama was sworn in) was when the economy "tanked".
Downtick away. If you rad this article and agreed with that assertion, you are a blind Obama-hater and not someone who even looks at the actual history. We did TARP (the R and P stand for "RECOVERY PROGRAM") while Bush was still in office….we needed ECONOMIC recovery back then. BECAUSE THE ECONOMY WAS ALREADY TANKED.
It's one thing to say Obama has not made it better, or even made it worse, it's another to just lie about when things happened.
Donna Dixon was the best part of Bosum Buddies. And Peter Scolari is a funnier actor. Tom Hanks is as smug as they come. And as phony. He calls himself a 'Robert Kennedy Democrat' because he thinks that makes him sound smart. Robert Kennedy ok'd the wiretaps on Martin Luther Kings and was a big anti-Communist. I sm sure the learned Mr. Hanks doesn't know that. The 'billion' jobs line shows the depth of this nitwits intelligence. Another arrogant, ignorant actor. Obama has that demographic 100%.
Most posters on Breitbart were disappointed with GW Bush's flagrant spending. Most people who post on this site understand that the policies laid down by Clinton, followed by Bush and voted/executed by a Democratic Congress after 2006, that required lenders to loosen their lending rules so "everyone" could own a home was a major factor in the 2008 meltdown. Most people on this site, while frustrated with Bush's spending record, are floored by the FACT that Obama has spent TWICE what Bush did in his entire 8 years in a mere 2 years. The stimulus plan made very few jobs but did pay the ridiculous pensions that public workers receive (way more than private sector workers) and also kept money pouring into wasteful government programs. Every single thing Obama has done policy-wise has done more to inhibit prosperity in this country. Threatening tax hikes, adding thousands of regulations, even hiring thousands of IRS workers who are auditing thousands more business owners (that takes time away from their business), threatening cap and trade–and most of all shoving a behemoth "health-care" bill that has frozen new hiring in it's tracks. A bill half the nation doesn't want. A bill that I believe was shoved through on false pretenses.
You don't even mention the FACT that Tom Hanks claimed that Obama made a billion jobs is a lie. Most people, according to a recent Rasmussen Poll believe they are worse off now than 2 years ago. I'm not sure you've really read what people are saying here, I sense you've come here with pre-conceived notions of what you think we'll say.
What a nitwit.
Hey in all fairness, maybe the jobs were in the other seven of the fifty seven states?
Hmm, GWB was the dumb one, right?
It makes me think of him in this role. http://www.bing.com/videos/watch/video/tom-hanks-...
Hey Hanks you are a complete moron just like the rest of the hollywood losers
I can't remember any performances after that one that are all that memorable.
And Donna Dixon was hotter!
I liked it when Tommy-boy talked about the racism in World War II in the Pacific as if it was a one way thing. It shows that this guy took to many acting classes in school when he should have been reading history. It also show just how ignorant liberals can be about the real world of which Mr. Hanks know very little. So take your money and stick it where the sun doesn't shine Tom, because you are a hypocrite and a fool of the first magnitude.
I "love" Tom Hanks also – I have even received comments that I looked like him when I was younger. But he has genuinely lost it in his later years (as have I). As nice a gentlemen as he presents himself in so many venues (and let's at least admit this) – when he opens his mouth politically he is a disaster, And I agree – I believe the greatest presidential gaffe of all time is for this sitting President is to blame unemployment on ATM machines. It is such a stunning statement in the face of what we are dealing with – and such a daming indictment of idiocy for this President. Where is the outrage – why isn't this unbelievable utterance of stupidity disected on the Charlie Rose show? The man has NO CLUE – yet we get wall-to-wall coverage of Lindasy Lohan legal shenagains or Sarah Palin causing traffic problems. The world has gone mad.
True dat!
That's an insult to all circus clowns! How dare you!
Tom, stick to acting. It's apparent math is not one of your strengths.
Goody, yet another great actor whose work I will never watch again.
Yeah…those "billion" jobs need to be in the USA to matter. Obie is the US President, not president of the world.
The only shovel ready job he produced was having Osama shot and he bungled that as well by burying him at sea (no shovel required).
My day would not be complete without reading a bit of crazy from one of our negative p trolls.
Excellent letter. Obama really has single-handedly destroyed our space program, and with it, any hope of us ever getting off of this rock.
Aww, poor racist Liberal troll is projecting. Unlike your side's support for Obama, our support for Cain has nothing to do with skin color and everything to do with the fact that he has the country's best interests at heart.
Your trolling is weak and transparent. Try harder.
Yeah I didn't think we had a billion people…here, let alone a billion jobs Maybe Hanks is channeling Dr. Carl Sagan.
You ain't the only one.
Yeah, a billion….trillion…something like that.
I hate it when actors think we care about their politics
Also you guys are wrong unemployment isn't at 9%…it's much higher http://www.wnd.com/?pageId=270957
People need to stop checking the U6 and use the U3
Yeah…Brazil, Venesuela, India, China………just NOT HERE!!!!
Pee Wee Herman says that Obammy has lost about a brazilian jobs. Now, be quiet, I'm trying to use the phone.
Tommy, tommy, tommy. He must not have a t.v. in his 57 billion dollar Bel Aire mansion.
Tommy's been drinking the Obama Kool Aid
http://i1137.photobucket.com/albums/n511/Gaelicfi...
Ditto.
This clueless fool has not lived in the real world since Forest Gump did….
The disconnect between Tom Hanks and the real world is ….sad, really.
What does he think about us, then, the viewing public? Why don't we just eat cake, Tom, because apparently your castle is filled with it, while the starving masses are growing angrier and angrier.
There is only one thing to do: Boycott this dude's movies.
To be a successful and popular actor in Hollyweird you must drink the koolaid.
He is lost without wilson.
PLEASE tell me again, those who watch movies, why would ANYBODY pay green money to see an idiot recite lines and pretend to be somebody else?
This guy is a great example of why I would never go to a movie. How could anybody ever forget that he's just an idiot playing like he's somebody else? Do people really believe the costumes and crap and see an actor or actress as who they portray? Sorry, It's never happened to me. Never. Some nut in funny clothes is still some nut trying to fool the public. Why people fall for it and PAY for it is beyond me.
Reality might be unhandy at times but it sure is durable!
Here's the touble. Even Forest Gump knew there was something wrong with the women he loved. Hanks doesn't think there's anything wrong with economy.
Tom take some lessons from Forest.
