Why Does Robert Redford Keep Making Stuff Up to Kill Working-Class Jobs?
by AWR HawkinsOn June 24, 2010, I had a post on BigHollywood that examined Robert Redford’s asinine statements about the Gulf Oil Spill. From his support of a drilling moratorium to the fact that he literally blamed the spill on Dick Cheney to the way he expected George W. Bush to respond instantly to Katrina, while making excuses for President Obama’s slow response to the BP disaster, his words were just another proof that many actors in Hollywood are out of touch with reality.
And although I hoped Redford would rethink his pomposity before speaking again on topics that he seems unable to comprehend, except through the prism of politics, it appears my hopes were misplaced. On Tuesday, the Huffington Post carried a statement by Redford wherein the actor lambasted Republicans for sinking Obama’s energy bill and with it “our moment to create two million clean energy jobs here in the United States.”
Where did Redford get such precise information about “two million” jobs? It seems like something that was conveniently snatched out of thin air, unless this number is a reference to jobs that the government would supposedly create in a faux clean energy market. But since when when has the government been successful in creating jobs?
The government cannot create jobs: it can only subsidize public positions with funds taken from taxpayers via confiscatory taxes. And secondly, where’s a clean energy that’s truly dependable (like oil), or that’s profitable enough to sustain it’s own production (like oil), or that has the infrastructure in place to make it readily accessible to the people (like oil)? I hate to break the news to Mr. Redford, but such energies are not there.
The “clean energy” we get from wind turbines, which are currently ruining otherwise picturesque landscapes in the Southwest and on the High Plains, comes at the expense of government subsidizes. This is the same scenario we saw with ethanol: the fuel that was supposed to “end our dependence on foreign oil,” but which instead simply lowered our water tables and cost taxpayers a fortune in subsidizes (all the while using foreign oil as part of the process of making ethanol).
And it was no less than Obama himself who spent the 2008 Presidential campaign promising to use his energy bill to bankrupt the coal industry and cause electricity prices to “necessarily skyrocket.” Moreover, since becoming President he’s gone Redford’s way in the Gulf Oil Spill by placing a job-crushing moratorium on offshore drilling.
How many lost jobs would a bankrupted coal industry represent? And what new pressures would skyrocketing electricity prices put on household budgets that are stretched to the point of breakage around the country right now? And how many jobs have we already lost due to Obama’s drilling moratorium? I suppose these are the kinds of questions that never cross Redford’s mind. But he needs to deal with them because even if his “two million clean energy jobs” really exist, they wouldn’t even be a drop in the bucket compared to the number of jobs that the oil and coal industries provide for Americans every day.
But all of this is lost on Redford, who is can’t quit crying about what he sees as a treachery committed by “Big Oil and Big Coal” – the two industries which he believes “reached deep into their pockets” to guarantee the defeat of the energy bill.
Maybe Big Oil and Big Coal did reach deep into their pockets Mr. Redford, and maybe Republicans can be blamed for blocking the energy bill. (Isn’t it about time for Republicans to do something which actually slows government’s encroachment into our lives?) If so, then the Republicans, along with the oil and coal industries, can be thanked for staving off another attack on what is commonly called “the American way of life.”

1. How to pretend to be someone else (a.k.a. Acting)
2. What it's like to have once been handsome and desired by millions of women and some men.
3. What it's like to have a metric ass-load of money
Why does anyone take him seriously on any subject outside of those three?
How do I know his knowledge is limited to those three subjects?
Well, Mr. Redford is a proponent of political ideologies that have murdered millions and enslaved the tens of millions more. He befriends and associates with murderous tyrants.
So, he is either supremely ignorant or just plain evil.
Quit paying attention to him and he will go away.

As tempting as that is to imagine, to do so would mean supporting a government that has decided it has the authority to do it to you too.

How about Mr. Redford make a real push to save the planet and deal with the evil coal and gas companies. Cancel Sundance since all of the gasoline that flies his elitist crowd to Colorado to see films is probably speeding us to the global warming/ice age/oozone hole/acid rain catastrophe. The films probably would be better served on the internet, anyway. There we can ignore them much like we do now only then we wouldn't have to endure the tons of pollution all those elitists spew into the atmosphere while the Hollywood crowd pats themselves on the back for being green minded and telling normal people how to live their lives.
I'll listen to these yahoos when they all give up their money and live on a commune together to avoid using oil and coal. Until then I just see it as an attempt to make themselves better than the rest of us by making us miserable.

Who blocked the green jobs? Obama has been shoving everything + the kitchen sink down our throat for ~2 years, no one has stopped him from anything. Redford is committing what I call the DiCaprio fallacy — suggesting that the energy industry has something to lose by supporting alternative energy.
Rather, companies like Shell, Exxon and Conoco have the most capital to invest when alternative energies become economical. Unfortunately, many environmentalist-leftists have a habit of biting the hand that would feed them, if only they'd stop snarling at it.

Redford has always been about telling other people how to run their lives. In Utah – specifically up in Provo Canyon where his Sundance ranch/ski resort is – the guy has been reviled for years for letting his horses and other ranch animals foul the creeks that run through his property and that feed the Provo River. He is very much the typical liberal elitist hypocrite.
Here's the deal for these delusional Hollywood dimwits like old irrelevant Redford. From now on, they give ALL of their earnings to the government and live on $27,500 per year. They give all of their materials goods, real estate, everything. just turn it right over to Odumdum. Their life experiences are markedly different from the average American yet they assume that because they are famous that their opinion carries more weight or they are somehow enlightened. Academics are another example of this same type of self appointed enlightenment. A machine that has lifted the living standards of much of the rest of the world, simply by being innovative, inventive and PROFITABLE. It's because of the invention of new, inexpensive vector control techniques, new medicines and insecticides and new medical treatments—ALL of which came from the U.S. and those "evil" capitalists.

In one state of Australia they have a voluntary fee on their car registration to pay for 'Climate Change', the uptake on it was, decidedly small. Ever notice how many Hollywood types NEVER talk about their education – just life experiences. They drop out of school after learing their ABC's and they hire an accountant to COUNT THEIR MONEY. I don't know what to call Robert Redford….. He comes from a family that whose livelihood depended on the oil industry. His father worked alongside my grandfather at Standard Oil of California, now known as Chevron. In addition, before Bobby became a big old movie star/director/producer, he worked at Standard Oil while he was a struggling actor.

One of the things that bothers me about this post are the cheap shots that people have taken about the way Redford looks.Is the point to be made that only attractive people can have good ideas? Someone's physical features are irrelevent to their ideas.Attacking people personally like grade schoolers is what the left does. The fact that Redford did not surrender to vanity and try to look like the Sundance Kid forever is a sign of character whwether you like it or not. There is enough wrong with the position that he has taken for it to be destroyed on it's merits by any thinking person. Just a thought.
