Lady Gaga Bores Us With Her ‘Bad Romance’ With Sacrilege
by AWR HawkinsWhen Stefani Germanotta, a.k.a. Lady Gaga, made news on July 16 by equating Jesus with a bisexual dancer in a performance in Cleveland, Ohio, she only reinforced the belief that there’s nothing she won’t do to sell a disc or a concert ticket. Moreover, she also proved that she is an example of that sick and degenerate type of human who is willing to trample the sacred in order to gain but a smidgen more fame from the secular.

What she doesn’t understand is that stunts like this not only make her look dumb and childish (or rich and spoiled), but also less talented.
Gaga’s emphasis on bisexuality isn’t all that surprising for anyone who has watched her videos. But the listening public had long ago accepted this about her and simply chalked her up as one who was cut from a different cloth. Yet it now appears that her sexual fetishes were but gateway drugs to bigger things: like sheer rudeness and sacrilege.
Remember how appalled Jerry Seinfeld was when he recently met Gaga at a New York Mets game? After watching her flip her middle finger to onlookers and camera crews who wouldn’t quit gawking at her bikini-for-baseball attire, Seinfeld said: “The woman is a jerk, I hate her.” He then went on to lump her together with other “young people” with Hollywood or music careers, and said he didn’t understand why they promoted their careers in the manner exemplified by Gaga. I’d love to hear his take on her now that she’s made the jump from merely being a rude, sexual freak show to an all-out desecrator of mainstream religion. At least singer Katy Perry has reacted to Gaga’s antics by saying: “Using blasphemy as entertainment is as cheap as a comedian telling a fart joke.”
Perhaps one more thing ought to be said about Gaga’s attack on Christianity in Cleveland (as well as in Toronto where she purposely perverted a prayer to Christ while covering herself in fake blood) and that is that she obviously doesn’t understand the very religion she mocks. For example, when she equated Jesus with a bisexual dancer she justified doing so by intimating that just as bisexuals love everybody – they love men, women, and blends of the two – so too “Jesus loves everybody.” I hate to rain on her parade, but Jesus actually talked more about judgment than about grace; more about hell than about heaven. The Bible actually presents God as a deity who loves some people, but hates others.
I don’t’ mention these things in to turn this post into a theological overview, but to simply make the point that Gaga is wrong on all accounts. Her words and her actions rest upon ignorance (or arrogance) and a purposeful blending of the holy with the profane in such a way as to give the profane the advantage.
Seinfeld said it best after seeing Gaga at the Mets’ game: “You take one ‘A’ off of [her name] and you’ve got ‘gag.’”

Looks like her nose was used to clean the chalk off of erasers. But who am I to judge?
once upon a time what Ms GaGa does was cutting edge, even tantalizing…
Now it's humdrum. Look at me. I dress and act like a slut. I glorify sexual excess. I make fun of (only) Jesus.
Isn't that exciting, and different? No- Madge beat you to this years ago, and she is still that what you aspire to be.
But Louise Madonna Ciconne did it first, and to this point better. Sooooo-
Work on your game, there, kid- it's kinda 'been there done that'…
"The Bible actually presents God as a deity who loves some people, but hates others."
Really? I think I'd rather be around Lady Gaga than someone who believes that.
But we NEED to push the envelope. It hasn't been pushed hardly at all!
Sadly (I hate to admit) I once thought Gaga had at least one artistic bone in her body. What was I thinking? I should have seen her for the opportunist she is right off. She didn't sell out because she had no integrity to begin with. Ah well, just another blatant attention seeker. Nothing to see here.
The Old Testament God certainly had no love for certain peoples. But with the New Testament and the New Covenant, God had a change of heart.
For God so loved the world that He sent His only son, that whoever believes in Him shall not die, but have everlasting life.
Whoever doesn't leave much room to interpretation.
I think that Alice Cooper said it best. When asked about Marilyn Manson, he said…. "A girl's name, shocking behavior and a wild stage show. Why did'nt I think of that?" There is no originality in pop music and there has not been since about 1990 or so.
You know what would be shocking and novel? Pulling the envelope back. That's something no one's seen before…
I attended her recent concert in Indy (right after the Cleveland stop). She made what I thought was a loving and reverent reference to Jesus. She was on her back and said that Jesus in Heaven "loves everyone". I am a born again evangelical Christian. My understanding of Jesus is that He – as the living son of God – does indeed love everyone. His parting commandment to the disciples was to love one another. He saved the woman caught in adultery from being stoned (she was not punished at all). He forgave the criminal on the cross. His love is boundless. Gaga's reference was meaningful to me as she used the present tense. She didn't say that "Jesus was a man who loved everyone." She references her faith time and again. Gaga mentions God or Jesus in interviews (most recently Larry King), she thanks God for awards and she leads her crew in prayer before each concert. She toured what she called "sacred and holy" Jerusalem last August wearing a large cross. She puts her faith in action. She has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars – perhaps millions – for charities and speaks out for human rights and helping others. I see her as a sister in Christ. She doesn't proselytize yet she has made her faith known many times by words and deeds.
Hey GaGa – what are your views about Islam? Like ALL "entertainers" Lady G can blasphemize Christianity with impunity because millions upon millions of people like me will IGNORE her not seek to fufill a fatwa against her.
Big difference between most religions on earth and a certain CRAZY religion that kills first – and seeks common ground never, huh? Lady GaGa knows it and practices that double standard out of FEAR.
The fact that we're even discussing this bimbo demonstrates the depths to which the entertainment world has sunk. She's a serial blasphemer, Mel Gibson is a race-baiting misogynist, and Lindsey Lohan is a drunken, drug-addled red-headed step-child heading for the slammer.
Yet they all live at the top of the entertainment news.
i would think we were approaching the end of the world if this stuff wasn't all so commonplace.
But, but she is an artist! So who you small minded people to judge her? /sarc
From the first time I heard her name, before I heard any of her music my first thought was 'style over substance'. Quite often your first instinct is correct.
Why is this ugly slut even news? What kind of people watch this garbage? She can't sing, she can't act and she is probably awful in bed. She must only appeal to the Satanic crowd.
She's practically a nun.
We are talking about an imbecile that calls herself Lady Gaga!
Gaga

Gaga
Adjective
Informal
1. Silly; crazy.
2. Completely absorbed, infatuated, or excited: They were gaga over the rock group's new album.
3. Senile; doddering.
Origin: French, old fool, gaga, of imitative origin.
Do you really expect any sense to come out of her? I will take a purely capitalistic approach and not buy anything associated with her.
I'll not cast my judgment on her Jesus comments. That right is reserved for a higher power.
I thought that was some other white substance that she was trying to snort but missed.
Oh I LOVE LADY GAGA, OUR MARY MAGDELENE WHO JESUS LOVED AND ADORED. ALL OF YOU SO-CALLED CHRISTIANS ARE SO FULL OF HATE THAT YOU REALLY THINK THAT YOU ARE RIGHTEOUS. Ah and yes, you too blind men will one day see the error of your ways. YOU WOULD BE THE SAME PEOPLE CALLING FOR JESUS TO BE CRUCIFIED IF YOU WENT BACK IN TIME because Jesus loved all people not just people who looked and thought like Him. AND TO AWR Hawkins, you masturbate to Gaga dontcha?
Dammit, Gaga, you call that pushing the envelope?
Where's that dynamite-lined burqua and featured Dance of the 72 Virgins I suggested? You don't get more hardlined, edgy, sticking-it-to-the-PC-crowd than that. No sir-ee.
Her support for the LGBT community is her business, (as I support some of their causes. Domestic partnership, anyone?) and I'm leaving all that hard-lined judgment stuff to the man upstairs.
She's not terribly good at subtlety, so her support looks obnoxious and empty. She has (or "had") some glitters of artistic talent, but she's not using it so wisely.
or, perhaps the god of the Old Testament is NOT the True Creator- as the Gnostic Gospels of Thomas seem to indicate. There has always been a disconnect between that god- and the Father of Christ…
I think it's time to leave that last 'a' out of her name…..
When comparing a bisexual to Jesus, Gaga, like others of her ilk, demonstrates an inability to distinguish between concern for the immortal soul of all people and having sex with anything with a pulse.
Trashing Christianity is blasé and predictable and dull as dishwater. If this bimbo wants to impress me with her cutting edge, try taking a few pot shots at Mohammed. I wouldn't sell her a life insurance policy after that but I'd admire her guts.
I like Gaga's music – went to the OKC show last night, wasn't impressed with the live product, whatever. Unlike what appear to be many of her critics, I like club music in general, and Gaga delivers good club music. Doing things that will outrage Christianity is boring, I agree. Best way for it to stop? Quit getting outraged by it, pretty simple really (calling her an ugly, no-talent, hell-bound slut probably isn't the best way to start).
As for wondering when celebs will start bashing Islam, ask Theo van Gogh. If you think it's so easy, write a one-man Islam-mocking show, tour the country, and do your worst. If there was any Christian-bashing last night, I didn't catch it. She was a gracious performer, repeatedly thanking the Okies who bought tickets and came to the show. Hard to ask for much more, really.
God does not change:
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever (Hebrews 13:8).
Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows (James 1:17).
If I can summarize Christian Theology:
God hates sin. Sin is like a cancer and one day God will destroy it. Man abides under God's wrath because man loves and practices sin and will be judged because of it. That's the Bad News.
What's the Good News? For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life (John 3:16).
God does love and hate. The Old Testament Law was like a schoolmaster to demonstrate how much God hates sin, to show sinful man how far he has fallen and his need for a Savior. If you think about it, you cannot REALLY love anything, if you do not hate what destroys the thing you love.
Anyone willing to commit blasphemy in public has automatically earned my respect. If she were to somehow incorporate caricatures of Muhammad into her act, I might even consider purchasing her album.
Hey take a couple tokes for me and another mushroom padded room is second door on the left. Be there LOL.
Madonna has done this tired hacks act 20 years ago. At least Madonna had some talent, this trolip does not.
What's so infuriating about her is that it gives legitimate artists who do try to fight against the Catholic Church a bad name. Sinead O'Connor had more class than her. Phillip Pullman's Dark Materials Trilogy could run circles around her (as well as The Da Vinci Code. A fantasy like "The Golden Compass" is more constructive than re-written history, thank you very much.) And Trey Parker and Matt Stone don't limit their targets to the Catholic Church: They take on Islamo-Nazi terrorists and the prophet Mohammed, Buddhists, Hindus, Scientologists, even Atheists (and as a secular Jew, I'm not particularly fond of Atheists either.)
She's nothing more than a singing "Da Vinci Code".
Well she sucks at it.
I'd add to her owing her schtick to Madonna that Madonna owes hers to Debbie Harry – a better singer, IMO – who in turn (with others) owes it to David Bowie.
Deffinitely not a good witch! Er, if there is such a thing.
The free market will correct itself soon enough and her face won't be plastered everywhere.
But the listening public had long ago accepted this about her…
"Long ago?" How long ago? I never even heard of her until a few months ago.
Gawd, I'm old and so not "with it."
PS: As far as I'm concerned, cradle-robbing Seinfeld and girl-kissing, whipped cream bra-wearing Perry can keep their comments and judgments to themselves. Glass houses…stones…all that.
i would think we were approaching the end of the world if this stuff wasn't all so commonplace.
Why mess up a good buzz by having to go onstage and sing?
The only thing I know about "Lady" Gaga is the song "Poker Face." as sung by one Eric Cartman. Other than that, she hasn't entered into my collection of Hendrix, Eagles, Skynyrd, Led Zep, U2, Heart, Rush, AC/DC, even Weird Al, and much much more. Just no Gaga, not even Kajagogo.:)
where did this "THING" come from.
i wake up one day and bam! there she is…
music industry is a cesspool.
She/He is just another example of someone with very little talent having to do something to draw attention to themselves. The great performers could and can walk on to a stage in blue jeans and a tee shirt and dazzle a crowd with their ability. Lady Gaga, Madonna, and their ilk have to rely on shock value to keep feeling valuable.
This too shall pass
You "LOVE LADY GAGA," but do you love her sin?
Jesus sat with sinners to turn them from their sinful ways. Jesus doesn't not condemn but he expects people to" …Go, (and) from now on do not sin any more."
so that would make Gaga watered down four times… yes Debbie Harry was not only better but culturally significant- she elevated Chris Stein's punk musings into sulty vamp territory. A first. And, of course Bowie melded art and entertainment like no one else before him.
Good reply…
Indeed. I never understood this obsession these entertainment types seem to have with powdered donuts.
wahhh wahhh she trashed my religion! Get over it. Just because you believe something is "sacred" doesn't mean everyone else has to agree with you. I'm no fan of gaga (Manson did it better – 15 years ago) but it's time people realize that religion is no longer "off limits" to criticism or ridicule. Believe what you want to believe but don't complain when others trash your ridiculous fairy tales.
idiots
Looks like he had one stale "shroom" too many on his pizza.
No, leave that "a" in and changes the G's to C's.
I have some of her music on my ipod for running. Or maybe it's the Glee versions. She's sold herself well, as did Madonna. I await her eventual bad marriage and children's book.
BTW, I see far more connection between Germanotta and Grace Jones. Madonna fell into reinventing herself after pushing her product through the club scene. Grace was a model with a voice who became an artiste very directly.
You say this crap to Christians but I'd bet a dollar to a donut that you kiss Muslim ass and proudly call those rectum smoochies "religious tolerance."
She really meant it when she excused herself to go powder her nose.
LOL! Cooper's gotta' be a hoot to be around.
Nope. In my opinion Muslims are worse in that respect. Perfect example: the whole South Park debacle. All religions are subject to criticism, especially Islam. I will say one thing about Christianity – at least we can ridicule it without fearing for our lives nowadays. My point is that NO religion is "special." Just because you believe some dogma is sacred doesn't mean the rest of us do or have to adhere to your rules and ideas of what is blasphemous or not. Those days are over, my friend. Good attempt at reframing the argument though.
Parker and Stone have ripped on everyone and everything. That's why I've remained a fan of the show even when they've ripped on group(s) to which I belong. (There are four or five episodes that I've not watched more than once because I found them offensive, but that's another story.)
Before Isaac Hayes died, he quit South Park because they ripped on Scientology. Prior to the episode airing and him quitting, he went to them and asked them not to do it, saying that it was bias against Scientology and that he'd have to leave the show if they went through with it. Their response to him was that they'd ripped on every other religion and so not doing it would be bias for Scientology, that they hoped he'd reconsider and not leave the show over it. He chose to leave, as you know, and, although they wished him well, they ripped on him in the episode in which Chef's dialog was made of words he'd said over the years, poorly patched together to make sentences and phrases, because ripping on everything is what South Park is about.
That's really all it takes to earn your respect?
Only when we can't conjure up images of Jesus being crucified to masturbate to. /sarc Idiot.
Is Lady Gaga not a woman? I mean, s/he wasn't born female?
The power of suggestion: Since reading your comment, Cartman singing Come Sail Away has been playing in my head. Thanks, Kevin_S.
You've got a point there, since it's only a matter of time before she smears feces all over her body….
"The Bible actually presents God as a deity who loves some people, but hates others."
That's according to the AWRHawkins. That's not my perception of the god of the Bible, New or Old Testament. I admit I haven't read the OT in its entirety, at least not in page order. I have read the NT a number of times (it's a lot shorter, you know) and, although I wasn't keeping a tally, I don't recall it being more hell and judgment than grace and heaven. What I read were different disciples' accounts of their travels with Jesus, what He taught them about how to live, the events of His life during their years with Him, and then, ultimately, His crucifixion and resurrection.
I'm grateful that I didn't gleen from the Bible what Hawkins has because, if I had, I'd not want anything more to do with the Bible or Christianity. Even Lady Gaga would look good in comparison.
But a really hawt nun.
You know it.
This crap is a diversion or an escape from the real news, which is often overwhelming during the last couple of years.
Yeah. Trashing Islam takes guts.
Indeed, then she can stink in practice as well as in theory.
Doing things that will outrage Christianity is boring, I agree. Best way for it to stop? Quit getting outraged by it, pretty simple really…
Bullshit. There are comments in this very discussion thread by people who say they admire her for ripping on Christ and Christianity. One even said that's all it takes to earn his/her respect. Yet I don't see any Christian outrage here, only some people saying they don't like her doing that and because she does it anyway, they don't like her. Christians' reactions to her and those like her have little to no effect on their behavior. You almost said as much yourself with your statement about Islam being too dangerous to bash. They bash Christianity because it's easy to do. (So much for being "edgy." Cowards.)
Those of you who overlook that behavior, don't mind it or even admire it are the ones feeding it. Own it.
That's some lefturd logic you got going there. Let's see how that defense of blasphemy posing as entertainment works when applied to other occupations.
But it's his job! Don't hate on the hit man for being good at his job. All he wants to do is kill people.
But it's her job! Don't hate on someone for being good at their job. All she wants to do is call you during dinner to sell you useless crap over the telephone.
But it's his job! Don't hate on someone for being good at their job. All he wants to do is auction off all your property to pay the back taxes you owe.
Sometimes, in the wee hours, I can hear 'Spiders from Mars'……..
I don't think there's a pole long enough…….
Yeah, bam! there she was. Yet they were saying her name and speaking of her as if she'd been around forever and everyone knew who she was. That must be a marketing strategy to generate interest in a product: persuade the target to learn about the product by convincing her/him that everyone else already knows about it and s/he's being left out and left behind.
It's blow man, like in Scarface.
Ah, Grace Jones, beauty has never looked as dangerous.
I get that Lady Gaga's shtick is a hand-me-down from Madodo (it's so obvious). That shtick wasn't Debbie Harry's. She didn't do the boy toy thing or the blasphemous thing and she didn't have to do them. She was hot – as in HAWT – without putting on any boy toy act. And she could sing, as you also noted. Except for the peroxide blonde hair, I'm not seeing anything of Debbie Harry in Madodo or Gaga.
As for Debbie Harry or anyone owing it to David Bowie, I'm not seeing that, either. Well, maybe dues are owed him by those who combined rock and theatre to create musicals or rock operas. I'm thinking of acts like KISS, Alice Cooper, Marilyn Manson, and, I get it now, Madodo and Gaga. However, still not seeing Debbie Harry owing dues to Bowie; Blondie's gigs were punk: loud and we-came-as-we-were real.
Pre-teens and teens are among her fans. Now, if that thought doesn't keep you awake at night…
He stabbed me in the back at work trying to get ahead. But that's his job!
Have heard of this singer (ugh) but due to my advanced age I will not be exposed to the sights and sounds.
Just say "trash" when your kid is listening and walk away.
That's what happens when you get pissy with your make-up person just before walking on stage to accept your award.
She was, like Madonna before her, brought up a Catholic, that's why she uses the imagery…which you have to admit, is a little bit gory and bloody.
I would love to see Lady GaGa give Islam the same treatment. It would be stunning to see her come out in full burkah and then explode into a ball of glitter and smoke and emerge in her stage outfit into "Bad Romance". I would love it if she had the guts to do it. Sadly, I don't think she does.
Don't worry about Lady Gaga too much people, she won't be around much longer. She's enjoying the ride, but she's not a driven person like Madonna before her, who aspired to be the biggest star in the world.
I don't quite understand the hate directed toward her on this board. I thought for a minute I was at the Huffington Post message boards with all the talk about her looks and lack of talent. Isn't that how "progressives" mock what they don't agree with or understand?
Sometimes I guess I delude myself into thinking Conservatives are better than that.
Grace Jones is a very good comparison.
Grace Jones is a very good comparison, although Lady Gaga is more of a real musician than either Jones or Madonna could ever hope to be, no disrespect meant to Jones or Madonna.
Oh why did you have to say that!!!!!
It would be refreshing if all these predictable people who are so ready to do anything to prove they are ecentric would quietly just go to the Catholic Church of their upbringing , get on their knees and pray to their Creator for wisdom and guidance and quietly go back home.
Their boring mockery of Christ is less artistic than the design on a container of new improved Tide. They make the Boy Band era look like the Renaissance.
Oh come on auntie…comments against Christianity by the same old trolls who comment on everything in order to get the regulars pissed off…really.
The author of this blog is saying that the God he believes in loves some people and hates others, and people are worried about Lady Gaga?
I'm more worried about bloggers like this guy, who drove millions of people AWAY from conservatism in the first place.
I wonder if Conservatives were ever really in power again if they would be as mean as they used to be?
Darogr, I've not been posting here long enough to know who the regulars are, troll or otherwise. the couple of comments you posted in reply to me seemed friendly enough and sincere enough but have emitted a trollish odor, so I checked your intensedebate page and read a few more. Still difficult to place, it appears that, for a little over a year, either you've been playing devil's advocate or you've been trolling the Big blogs. Then, I noticed that you ended each of your comments addressed to me with a shitty remark about conservatives. I'm glad I wasn't quick to judge you a troll and tell you to go fuck yourself, that, instead, I gave it a little thought first and a little time to be sure I'm right to do so before telling you to go fuck yourself, troll boy. Idiot.
Since you find conservatives to be so mean and hateful, maybe you should stick with your own kind, then.
I don't see this as a "conservative" issue. I'm sure she has liberal detactors too.
Frankly I could a rat's ass about Lady Gaga. I salute her sense of entrepeneurialism.
I excercise my option to generally ignore her and not contribute to her business ventures.
Actually I had never heard of her before last summer when I was Italy and MTV is the only English languge TV as I dressed in the morning before class.
So, I wouldn't have commented at all other than to show the hypocrisy of entertainer so easily mocking and sacrileging Catholocisim and Christianity in general. I have similar disdane for Madonna who has the nerve to liken conservative leaders to Hitler – a HUGE SOCIALIST – who epitomized "progressivism" with his socilaist/facist dogma (look it up, do the reading YES – facist imposition of socialism – they seek control – he had control)
My point? Mock Islam, let's see how brave they really are.
So…I'm debating if I should thumbs-down you simply for liking Gaga.
Yes, you admitted that it was a long time ago but …I admit, I couldn't stand her at all.
I still love you, you know. Just….shuddering at the thought of Gaga.
You are my new best friend!
I think I'm kind of grossed out by this conversation…
Did she really have talent….? Or was it the Hollywood machine telling us she had talent?
Well, in my defense, I never actually claimed to like her. I just said I once thought she had an iota of artistic integrity. But I have come to see the error of my ways.
Thank you so much for the kind words! Sometimes it does feel like you are friends with some of the people that post here.
The subject matter invites it, but yeah, I'm feeling kinda queezy…..
She's starting to make Lindsay Lohan look well mannered and intelligent…
You are welcome. And welcome to the club, because that is the only version of "Come Sail Away" I hear anymore.lol
The one time I actually watched her on tv, I thought she was as ugly as a mud fence.
As a Christian, I too was appalled by Mr. Hawkins' statement. God hates no one. God hates sin. But He loves the sinner. Jesus sacrificed himself on the cross for all sinners that let Him in to their heart.
I pray that no Christian on the site tries to defend Mr. Hawkins' appalling statement.
