Jude Christodal was born outside of Boston where, aside from a few years in Washington State, he grew up. As a boy, his father sung him to sleep with a guitar Jude still plays.
Jude moved to Los Angeles in '94. He took his degree in philosophy and applied it to several menial jobs while writing and playing his music around L.A. His performances caught the ear of BMG Songs and his 1997 acoustic debut “430 N. Harper Ave.” was originally released on the Fish of Death label.
The inclusion of Jude's hauntingly beautiful "I Know" on the multi-platinum City of Angels soundtrack propelled him into the public consciousness. He followed with “No One is Really Beautiful,” his first album recorded with Maverick Records, released in 1998 and was received warmly by the music press. Jude hit the road with some other folks (Ben Folds Five, Train, Tori Amos, Chris Isaak) in support of the album, then returned to the studio to do battle with the record company, who insisted on "putting their greasy fingerprints all over" his songs. The result was “King of Yesterday,” which hit stores in September 2001, notably absent of "Cuba," a stand-out track telling the story behind the record.
In 2004 Jude independently released “Sarah,” a stark and beautiful cycle of songs describing a relationship from start to fall. People liked it a lot. The record topped CDBaby's online chart for months and remains one of its all time bestselling discs. In April of 2005, Naïve Records released “Sarah” in France, where Jude toured extensively in support.
In 2006, Naive records produced Jude's latest studio album, “Redemption,” released in France and several other European countries.
Jude co-founded and was a primary writer and singer for the LowStars, an acoustic rock harmony band that released an eponymous CD through the Starbucks Hear music label in 2007. The song "Calling All Friends," which appears on the album and was penned by Jude, was the theme for the ABC drama "What About Brian.”
In 2008, Jude released “Cuba,” a collection of early out-takes.
Many of Jude's songs have been used in shows such as “The O.C.,” “Alias,” “Dawson's Creek,” “Crossing Jordan,” and “Felicity.” Jude has also penned the main title songs for “The Ellen Show” (2001), the 2nd season of VH1's "Surreal Life," and ABC's critical smash, "Cavemen." "Cavemen" featured Jude's first work as a composer.
Mixing his performances with spontaneous humor, storytelling skills, and his angelic, captivating voice, Jude weaves a unique experience at every show. Still based in Los Angeles, he is currently in the studio working on score and songs while threatening to get back out on the road.

Question for Stage Right
by JudeShould multiple songs be nominated from single films? Was this always the case?
Fleeting fame…

One of the all-time greats. One of the all-time great A-holes, by all accounts. His “Dean & Me” book is a great, breezy read of a love story.
how did we lose Meghan McCain, what the hell?
Film Editing
by JudeNow here’s a category full of great artists with great rhythm who are seldom recognized.
…right back with “Host” Hugh Jackman.
Hugh Jackman, the Tom Sawyer of the 81st Oscars
by Jude…talk about getting by with a little help… i think it works better this way, but let’s go ahead and give credit to Steve Martin, Will Smith, etc.
by Jude
yeah, wow Doug, I actually saw some of those! LOL, Will is with it!
By the way, Will Smith is a guy you’ll never see in the tabloids. To the extent possible, he walks the walk.
What the hell was Benjamin Buttock even about? yu’re telling me it was somehow better in ANY category than Iro Man and Dark knight?

We need to keep rewarding the real documentarians. No more mega-celebrity documentary winners, please.
God bless this woman, her crew, the people she’s talking about.

The current Mrs. Downey, currently holding lightning in a jar. many more to come for them. This award was done months ago.
Ledger by a mile.
Watching the musical thing on Tivo…
by JudeBeyonce’s trying not to trip while walking down the stairs seemed to morph into the first of several lame dance steps. Isn’t she in the shape required to sing this live?
Amanda Seyfried for President of Earth.
Why Beyonce? Why, why. I defer to Stage Right and Ben: that was a strange mishmash without many artful transitions. I think the arranger was named Commercial Break. Baz has done so much better.
by Jude
I saw Natalie yesterday at the same coffee shop I saw Ben Stiller at a month ago. And it’s my local hang. That makes me gross, right?
Anyway, this is very funny, the Pheonix take by Ben.
by Jude
With my girlfriend out of the room for the moment, I must quickly nominate Amanda Seyfried for an all-around Oscar. She’s just a lot of everything lovely.
Hugh Jackman is KILLING it tonight.
by JudeIs he trapped in a costume change or something?
Stage Right, is Scene or Costume design a bigger leap from the stage?
STYX
by JudeOh Andrew, it goes SO much deeper than that. If you want to chase it down the rabbit hole, the STYX melodrama will take a year of your free time away.
By the way, I’d certainly be a little toasty in Jack’s shoes, so good on him if he is. Why should we care – he’s not driving.
oooh, the equine beauty and the best Bond. Singular lack of chemistry.
by Jude
Jack not drunk or high, just very funny and a little bored up there. Seems a little tired, is all.
Hugh Jackman is REALLY doing a great job so far, huh?
by Jude
This is nice, with the writer’s words up on the screen. Is that new? look how happy Sean is for this young writer…. uh oh, “Mormon” and “married” both dropped…
Liked it all, except for the apparent nexus of Federal and Hollywood powers…
by Jude
Oh great, the Wolverine with less chest hair than me. In my heart of hearts, I truly wish him luck.
the crowd just gave him the encouragement applause for telling the first joke.
Second one was better. …here we go – the guy can move!
by Jude
Tim Gunn prefers Marisa with clothes on. I love him and this open society we live in which allows him to declare that on TV.
by Jude
Honestly. I’m already disgusted. I don’t begrudge all the talent they’re moment in the sun, but I think this whole production does real damage to the world. My old man used to walk in on us watching the Oscars and tell us to remember that it was just a bunch of famous people patting each other on the back, and that we were suckers to sit and watch the whole thing.
So here i am. Oh hey, Miley something just said that Anjelina is her favorite person of all history, then some other stuff.
whoo boy. the night i never watch…
by Judethis will be the first one of thse I’ve sat through in over a decade…goes to show how fun this site can be!
i’ll be rooting for my friends and saying nasty things about people I’ll then hope to never run into. In truth, I’m rooting for everyone to appear as if they aren’t taking themselves too seriously… All I can say is Steve’s link to Rourke’s speech last night has set the bar pretty high…
24 reasons to watch ‘24′ tonight despite Janeane Garofalo
by JudeI try to separate the art from the artist, I really do, especially among actors. The thing is, if you believe you can sense Garofalo’s hatred and disdain for us in her onscreen performance, you must be deeply sensitive. Whenever I feel myself doing that with an actor, I try to take a step back…. but then she said this the other day:
“The reason a person is a conservative republican is because something is wrong with them. Again, that’s science – that’s neuroscience. You cannot be well adjusted, open-minded, pluralistic, enlightened and be a republican. It’s counter-intuitive. And they revel in their anti-intellectualism. They revel in their cruelty.”
Tolerance. (more…)
