The announcement that Oprah’s ending her show after 25 years came as no surprise. In fact, I have been expecting this sort of announcement since Oprah took the stage with Barack Obama to announce her support for his presidential run. During her first of many stump speeches in Manchester, I heard the crowd chant Oprah! Oprah, and listened to her give a well-crafted speech. I also noticed a transformation in her voice and delivery. She sounded more like a pastor giving a fiery sermon, closer to Reverend Wright, than a professional talk show host. She seemed to revel in the moment and the difference in reception that comes with political power. I couldn’t help but think of Oprah’s career and what was left for her to do that she hasn’t already done.

She became the country’s first Black Billionaire, she has maintained the crown of Queen Of Daytime for the last 23 years, she’s built schools in Africa and convinced Americans to read whatever book she suggests, no matter how ridiculous. She even started her own magazine appropriately called “O” during a time when the printed magazine market was being pummeled by digital delivery via the Internet, and it has somehow succeeded.

So, what’s left for her to do? What could possibly feed an ego of that size? It’s an ego that insists she appear on every cover of her magazine and claims that her readers insisted on it. Egos are a funny things because they actually have an appetite, so when I read that she’s ending her run in 2011 as the Queen Of Daytime, I realized that she most likely isn’t abandoning the single largest source of food for her internal animal but, in fact, would use it to catapult herself in a position that her money and power could never buy: Vice President of the United States.

Sure, Joe Biden would have to be dealt with, but that’s nothing for the woman that helped Obama get elected and it sure doesn’t hurt that Joe Biden can’t seem to show up at any event without acting like the manager of a used car lot. Oprah is a regular visitor to the White House and also from Chicago, so she certainly knows the CHICAGO WAY. With the President’s daily tracking poll dropping below 50%, he realizes he’ll need more than change and hope to get re-elected. He will need the power of “O,” but not just as a supporter, but as powerhouse with unfettered access to money and media. Not to be overlooked, Obama and Oprah could both take even a larger part of history by getting not only the first woman elected as VP but the first African American woman. Can you just imagine the size of the ego that would emerge from such a victory?

I’m not privy to the square footage of the Vice President’s official mansion but I am certain it would need expansion.

Now, before you go calling me a racist or chauvinistic pig, I will admit that Oprah has done some amazing things. She’s helped a tremendous number of people and put her money towards many great causes — so I try not to judge those actions as an ego-boosting activity, although these good deeds are bound to make one feel as though they somehow deserve greater gratitude than others. Nonetheless, I applaud her good deeds.

MY PREDICTION: As we move closer to 2011 you will see Oprah’s shows become more and more focused on political issues and figures – wait… it’s already begun. Sarah Palin’s appearance might have been the first shot at defusing a potential contender in the next election.

After all, Palin’s “Going Rogue” is not listed on Oprah’s book of the month, even though it was a best seller even before its release. Let the battle begin…Something tells me this will be a long and painful three years of television.

I recently attended an event at The Ronald Reagan Presidential Museum celebrating the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. The event titled: Ronald Reagan and the Fall of the Wall: Reflections from Yesterday, Lessons for Today, was a conference packed with an impressive list of speakers ranging from world leaders, dignitaries and influential personalities from around the world.

–

The event was comprised of three panel sessions and a luncheon keynote speech. The goal of the conference was to look at specific events that led to the fall of the wall, the people responsible, the impact of that historic event, and the legacy of the man who led the charge to end the Cold War, Ronald Reagan. There were two sessions that stood out at this event. The first was the keynote speech by former Secretary of State for Ronald Reagan, George P Shultz. His speech shed light into the unique leadership Ronald Reagan provided that we fail to find in our elected officials today. Shultz delivered a rare look into the mindset of the Soviets at the time, and the determination and constancy of purpose that Reagan possessed. He spoke of how Reagan approached the use of force with a subtle pot shot at the Obama administration.

Although he didn’t mention Obama by name, he spoke of the time when the U.S. invaded Grenada. Reagan sought counsel from his military leaders on the invasion strategy. His Generals asked for a specific number of troops to successfully invade and rescue the 250 Americans being held hostage. Reagan responded by saying, “Take that number and double it, there will be less casualties on both sides.” Shultz went on to say, “Today the General on the ground in Afghanistan requested 40,000 more troops from the President, and the President responded with ‘I’ll get back to you on that.’ That would be unconscionable in a Reagan White House,” concluded Shultz — to long applause from the roughly 500 in attendances.

Shultz spoke of Reagan as a man of humility who believed, “One man can accomplish great things as long as he doesn’t care who gets the credit.” Everyone who spoke during this event agreed Reagan was never comfortable with the credit he was given for ending the Cold War because so many people were part of the solution. It was clear the humility of Reagan had a lasting effect on all who worked with him and it was also very clear that humility was something we are not seeing in the current President.

Former White House speechwriter for Reagan and drafter of the famous “Tear down this Wall” speech, Peter Robinson, commenting on the personality of Reagan said, “Reagan would have said, ’No thank you, I don’t deserve the Nobel Peace Prize.’” Robinson also spoke of the harsh resistance Reagan received from bureaucrats throughout the government about the line in his Berlin Wall speech: “Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!” Reagan asked all of his advisors their thoughts about removing the line from the speech and they all agreed it should be removed. Reagan responded by saying, “I’m the President and it’s my decision, right? The line stay’s in.” He reflected that Reagan delivering that line was a special time in many Soviet occupied countries.

Mart Laar, former Prime Minster for Estonia, mentioned that Reagan’s principles helped him construct a system in Estonia with privatization and a flat tax that led to a strong economy for his citizens. Laar said, “I have a picture of Reagan in my office. When panelist Steve Forbes was asked if there was an unfinished legacy after the fall of the wall, Forbes replied: “Yes, we don’t have a picture of Reagan in OUR President’s office.”

Throughout this event there was one consistent message, a message that left me more concerned about the direction of our country than ever. Czech President Vaclav Kalus expressed concern with our current administration and its policies saying the U.S.A. is becoming a Marxist country. Mart Laar screamed to the crowd, “Remember, people, YOU WON THE COLD WAR!” Poland’s head economist warned us that there is truly no freedom without capitalism. These comments made me realize that former communist countries, their leaders and people know far more about Marxism and communism than we ever will. They know the smell, the taste and the effects of tyranny. They are more familiar with freedom and liberty because it’s fresh in their mind. In fact, these leaders sounded more like our Founders than our current leaders do and want to see a strong America comprised of people from all nations that stands for liberty and freedom and not big government controlling industries and taking over private companies.

During the event I had the pleasure of meeting and speaking with many of these world leaders and dignitaries. People like Nancy Regan, Ed Meese (United States Attorney General, 1985-1988); Richard Allen (National Security Advisor, 1981-1982), John Lehman (Secretary of the Navy, 1981-1987), Lord Charles Powell (Foreign Advisor to Margaret Thatcher, 1983-1990) and Czech President Klaus.

Why is it that our media doesn’t speak to these leaders and reveal their thoughts on the present direction of our country? Could it be that they think it would confirm the Tea Party protesters’ concerns? I think so. Whatever the case, during this 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall and end of the Cold War, we need to turn to those who understand how to defeat tyranny and recognize who in our government is advancing that tyranny.

We need to find leaders that think like Reagan, the man who said, “Concentrated power has always been the enemy of liberty.” America has an enemy in the White House and many more in Congress. It’s time we demand. “MR.OBAMA, TEAR DOWN YOUR WALL.”

Over the past three months we have witnessed some truly amazing movements by the Obama administration. He has proposed more spending than all Presidents in history combined; he has trampled the Constitution by allowing the Treasury to take on a dictator style infringement on private companies, and now the democratically lead Congress has proposed the “Pay for Performance Act” which passed Thursday with even some Republican Congressman voted for it.

This bill essentially allows the Treasury to define “fair pay” for all employees, at any level. Worse, the Treasury would like to be able to take over any company it deemed as important enough to take over regardless of whether or not it had accepted bailout funds. Worse still, the Serve Act proposes to make volunteering for the government mandatory (with pay, of course). Last time I looked, working for pay was called A JOB.

The scariest part of the bill is that while you’re serving as a “volunteer,” you’re prohibited from participating in worship and church activities, political rallies and being involved in a union. In short, your essential freedoms are gone. I keep hearing about Obama being a socialist but, I have to disagree. Based on these measures he appears to more like a person pursuing Communism or Fascism.

Let’s face it; if you wanted to tear down the Republic and install a Communist Oligarchy you would first have to take over all major industries where corporate power resides, then you must get the wealth away from the rich — but how would you do that? Well, you create an even larger economic crisis so the country thinks your massive debt spending is a way to help the country when your real plan is to incur so much debt that the only way to prevent the country from bankruptcy is to impose a tax system that depletes the wealth of the top 1% until we’re all equally “wealthy.” …Well, except for those wealthy people who helped you get there. You know the ones I’m talking about. I don’t mean to HARPO on the subject, but we seemed to have forgotten what we’re protecting. What about the Republic? Is it already gone?

When the government ignores legal contractual obligations because they judge someone’s bonus as unfair the law has been ignored, which means it was violated and this violation occurred at the highest level of government. I’m not saying the AIG bonuses weren’t excessive. My point is, we don’t know what these people did to deserve or NOT to deserve them because this was never mentioned or examined. Maybe some of those people brought in a billion dollars of business and their bonuses were based? Maybe the CEO is the main reason the company is failing? Does that mean that some guy who worked hard to bring in that billion dollars in business shouldn’t be rewarded? But Obama needs a way to regulate pay and the bill proposed doesn’t even stop at executives, it doesn’t even stop at dollar amounts. In fact, it has no specification whatsoever.

So we can all look forward to government cars, government jobs, paid civilian volunteers who watch our every move and the the loss of our ability to reach for our dreams. The sad part is that Obama told us exactly what he was going to do and 52% of you refused to hear what he said. In fact many of you cheered at these things. Let’s remember just of few of the things he said.

The Constitution is fundamentally flawed. It only protects the rights of the people but does not allow the government to do anything on your behalf.

He wants a civilian Army as large as our military, and as well funded ($650 billion annually).

He wants to “spread the wealth.” Oh, don’t pretend you don’t remember Joe the Plumber.

And let’s not forget good ole Reverend Wright whose teachings about America being evil and unequal ring in Obama’s ears. Funny … It’s equality that got Obama elected. Change? Oh yes, there’s change and if we don’t act soon the meaning of hope will have a very different meaning.

If you call 411 or customer service for almost any service-related company today, you’re greeted with, “Thank you for calling. Press #1 to continue in English.” Excuse me, but when did English cease being the default language in this country? And this is just one of the politically correct or (PC) aspects invading our culture and stifling free speech.

Today, PC attacks are the foundation of the left’s approach to politics and policy. Examples are everywhere. If you didn’t vote for Obama you’re racist, if you oppose gay marriage you’re homophobic, and if you voted for Bush or McCain — according to Janeane Garofalo — you’re an anti-intellectual a**hole (and she said this in such an intellectual way, too).

This is where we have failed and where the left has succeeded. Conservatives ideas are simply branded as politically incorrect and when we fear a backlash to speak up about Obama releasing a terrorist who killed American soldiers, we have not only lost all intellectual thinking, we have all but surrendered the US to whoever might want to destroy it.

The left also brands conservatives as idiots and have done such a good job that today Garofalo is seen as an intellect while Brit Hume is labelled a bible thumping, gun toting, war mongering idiot. Even the framers of our Constitution have been branded as irrelevant. Today, believing in and standing upon our Constitution is viewed as “out of touch.”

Have we all gone mad?

Stupidity is seen as smart, capitalism is a failed system regardless of it being the most successful in history, socialism is great even though it’s proven to fail every time, and Obama is a genius for doing the same thing Bush was hated for in building big government and massive spending.

So what is political correctness?

Political correctness is much more than simply being sensitive to those around us. In fact, it’s a Marxist strategy that sought to make Communism easier for free people to digest. The idea is to slowly make popular thinking unpopular and unpopular thinking popular. The scourge of PC destroys free speech which is okay with the left because they know that their goal of Socialism and then Communism can ultimately be accomplished through these means.

In their world It’s okay to be intolerant as long as you’re intolerant towards Christians, and it’s acceptable to hate as long as you’re hating conservatives. Dissent is patriotic when you’re protesting a Republican but you’re a radical, or worse, a racist radical) if you show dissent for Obama’s radical policies.

This reverse logic is outlined by Alan Keyes, who recently said that Obama’s economic policy is tantamount to a “bankrupt government trying to bailout a bankrupt banking system.” He’s absolutely correct but yet he’s been called a radical for saying so.

This is just one example of how PC is used to damn logical thinking, and this epidemic is not something that happens accidentally.

So the next time you dial 411 and are asked to press #1 for English, being angry doesn’t mean you’re racist, it simply means you’ve not fallen victim, like so many others, to PC indoctrination.

I do fear if this kind of action continues, we won’t be debating this in blogs or on Facebook. It will be on a battlefield near you when the ability to turn off the TV, close the web page or delete an unwelcome opinion in your email will be stripped away.

For an amazing look at the history of political correctness, please watch this video.
