IATSE Union Member Fired for Wearing Bush Hat and Shirt
by Derek Broes***UPDATE: The spelling of Duane Hammond’s last name has been corrected.

Obama’s visit to Los Angeles today has stirred controversy even before he arrived:
—–
A stage worker setting up the stage was fired for refusing to remove his hat and turn his sweatshirt inside out and the reason? The shirt hat and shirt both had the name “Bush” printed on them but not just any Bush but, that of George H.W. Bush.
The IATSE (Local 33) union fired the worker even after he explained the shirt to his bosses. The shirt didn’t explicitly support George H.W Bush but that of the aircraft carrier named after the former President and the aircraft carrier his son has served on for the past many years and is currently deployed. The union worker was interviewed on KTLA Channel 5 locally in Los Angeles. (more…)
Does Oprah Want to Be Vice President?
by Derek BroesThe announcement that Oprah’s ending her show after 25 years came as no surprise. In fact, I have been expecting this sort of announcement since Oprah took the stage with Barack Obama to announce her support for his presidential run. During her first of many stump speeches in Manchester, I heard the crowd chant Oprah! Oprah, and listened to her give a well-crafted speech. I also noticed a transformation in her voice and delivery. She sounded more like a pastor giving a fiery sermon, closer to Reverend Wright, than a professional talk show host. She seemed to revel in the moment and the difference in reception that comes with political power. I couldn’t help but think of Oprah’s career and what was left for her to do that she hasn’t already done.

She became the country’s first Black Billionaire, she has maintained the crown of Queen Of Daytime for the last 23 years, she’s built schools in Africa and convinced Americans to read whatever book she suggests, no matter how ridiculous. She even started her own magazine appropriately called “O” during a time when the printed magazine market was being pummeled by digital delivery via the Internet, and it has somehow succeeded. Mr. Obama, Tear Down Your Wall!: Reflections After 20 Years
by Derek BroesI recently attended an event at The Ronald Reagan Presidential Museum celebrating the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. The event titled: Ronald Reagan and the Fall of the Wall: Reflections from Yesterday, Lessons for Today, was a conference packed with an impressive list of speakers ranging from world leaders, dignitaries and influential personalities from around the world.
–
The event was comprised of three panel sessions and a luncheon keynote speech. The goal of the conference was to look at specific events that led to the fall of the wall, the people responsible, the impact of that historic event, and the legacy of the man who led the charge to end the Cold War, Ronald Reagan. There were two sessions that stood out at this event. The first was the keynote speech by former Secretary of State for Ronald Reagan, George P Shultz. His speech shed light into the unique leadership Ronald Reagan provided that we fail to find in our elected officials today. Shultz delivered a rare look into the mindset of the Soviets at the time, and the determination and constancy of purpose that Reagan possessed. He spoke of how Reagan approached the use of force with a subtle pot shot at the Obama administration. (more…)
You’ve Been Warned
by Derek BroesOver the past three months we have witnessed some truly amazing movements by the Obama administration. He has proposed more spending than all Presidents in history combined; he has trampled the Constitution by allowing the Treasury to take on a dictator style infringement on private companies, and now the democratically lead Congress has proposed the “Pay for Performance Act” which passed Thursday with even some Republican Congressman voted for it.
This bill essentially allows the Treasury to define “fair pay” for all employees, at any level. Worse, the Treasury would like to be able to take over any company it deemed as important enough to take over regardless of whether or not it had accepted bailout funds. Worse still, the Serve Act proposes to make volunteering for the government mandatory (with pay, of course). Last time I looked, working for pay was called A JOB. (more…)
Press #1 for Reverse Logic
by Derek BroesIf you call 411 or customer service for almost any service-related company today, you’re greeted with, “Thank you for calling. Press #1 to continue in English.” Excuse me, but when did English cease being the default language in this country? And this is just one of the politically correct or (PC) aspects invading our culture and stifling free speech.
Today, PC attacks are the foundation of the left’s approach to politics and policy. Examples are everywhere. If you didn’t vote for Obama you’re racist, if you oppose gay marriage you’re homophobic, and if you voted for Bush or McCain — according to Janeane Garofalo — you’re an anti-intellectual a**hole (and she said this in such an intellectual way, too).
This is where we have failed and where the left has succeeded. Conservatives ideas are simply branded as politically incorrect and when we fear a backlash to speak up about Obama releasing a terrorist who killed American soldiers, we have not only lost all intellectual thinking, we have all but surrendered the US to whoever might want to destroy it. Communist
by Derek BroesThank you Sean for pointing out that Hollywood is filled filled with communists.
Old Hollywood
by Derek BroesI must say, I like the old Hollywood feel. Too bad the ratings won’t reflect it.
I do think they need to replay Cuba Gooding Jr’s acceptance speech. The best ever and not because he thanks me.
Was Bush A Gift To The Left?
by Derek BroesDuring the election the chants of “Hope” from Mr. Obama and his followers always seemed to be said with a smile. Today those smiles are gone and have been replaced by the stern condescending look of someone very frustrated that a socialist agenda is being met with resistance from the right and conservatives all around the country. Thankfully, conservatives have finally spoken up and we can only “hope it’s not too late to reverse course. (more…)
