‘Hollywood Reporter’ Ridicules Christians For Mobilizing Against Comedy Central’s Jesus Project

by Big Hollywood

—–

Here’s a snarky report from James Hibberd of the Hollywood Reporter. No doubt if this was a gay group mobilizing against a show that mocked them, or the NAACP or CAIR protecting their own protected status, Hibberd would be just as derisive and dismissive. No double standard here:

It’s not on the air yet. It’s not shot yet. There’s no pilot yet. Hell, there might not even be a script yet.

But Comedy Central developing an animated project about Jesus Christ has the biggest names in the TV watchdog business forming a Super Best Friends protest super-group to preemptively smite the show.

Not from the Onion:

“Top kill” didn’t stop the Gulf oil spill. How about something “titanic”?

Federal officials are hoping film director James Cameron can help them come up with ideas on how to stop the disastrous oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

The “Avatar” and “Titanic” director was among a group of scientists and other experts who met Tuesday with officials from the Environmental Protection Agency and other federal agencies for a brainstorming session on stopping the massive oil leak.

Happy Birthday: Clint Eastwood Turns 80 Today

by Big Hollywood

clint_eastwood

In honor of Clint’s 80th birthday, TCM is airing a 24 hour birthday tribute today. You can see the schedule of films here. This includes a new documentary, “The Eastwood Factor,”  by critic and documentary filmmaker Richard Schickel, who wrote an excellent biography of the screen icon in 1996.

Still a force behind the camera and a powerful, virile and bankable presence on screen, Eastwood’s a truly remarkable man in every sense of the word with one of the most interesting and diverse careers in the history of the medium. How many actor/directors move so effortlessly between pure popcorn entertainment like “Space Cowboys” and “The Gauntlet” to ”Bird” and “A Perfect World?”  (more…)

TRAGEDY: Gary Coleman Dead at 42

by Big Hollywood

coleman 2

PROVO, Utah (AP) – Gary Coleman, the child star of the smash 1970s TV sitcom “Diff’rent Strokes” whose later career was marred by medical and legal problems, has died after suffering an intercranial hemorrhage. He was 42.

Utah Valley Regional Medical Center spokeswoman Janet Frank said life support was terminated and Coleman died at 12:05 p.m. MDT.

Coleman, with his sparkling eyes and perfect comic timing, became a star after “Diff’rent Strokes” debuted in 1978. He played the younger brother in a pair of African-American siblings adopted by a wealthy white man. (more…)

RED COUNTY: Time for a Conservative Revival of the 80’s Punk Band ‘Dead Kennedys’

by Big Hollywood

Chip Hanlon at Red County:

I have to admit, I automatically figure that every actor or musician is a political Lefty until shown otherwise.

But, boy, that would be the wrong assumption to make of the iconic ‘80’s punk band, the Dead Kennedys!

kennedys460

At least, the very first single the band released in 1979 will make any California conservative’s heart sing, I assure you.

First, though, and I have to stop to write this because too many Republicans get squishy fast and end up apologizing for things they didn’t even do if the P.C. police come crashing down: the band’s name was not meant to insult the assassinated Kennedy brothers. Instead, to quote their lead singer, Jello Biafra (how great is that rock and roll name?!), the name was meant to “bring attention to the end of the American Dream.” (more…)
