Dreaming Of President Petraeus And An American surge

by Andrew Breitbart

This week’s Washington Times column:

America is in a crisis of its own making.

Not only are we realizing that our banking system and our core infrastructure are broken, and that our primary checks and balances (Congress, the media, etc.) are corrupt, but we are also coming to grips with the fact that we did not inherit our forefathers’ or even our fathers intestinal fortitude.

Signs of our collective weakness emerged after 9/11 when only part of the American population took seriously that we were at war with an evil and motivated enemy determined to destroy our way of life. Since then, al Qaeda has refused to quit despite debilitating losses. (more…)

Ron Silver

by Andrew Breitbart

Meeting Ron Silver humbled me. Never have I been more wrong in assessing a person before knowing him.

Until I met him, he was just another Hollywood liberal loud mouth.

Yes, he was an award-winning actor and prolific film star. And, yes, he had strong political opinions. (The net sum of his positions added up to no partisan’s delight.)

But Ron Silver was also astoundingly intelligent. Ask anyone who knew him. He spoke fluent Mandarin Chinese and Spanish to go with having a Master’s Degree in Chinese History.

These facets combined to make Silver a most compelling public person, a natural leader and the type of man who automatically commanded respect and admiration no matter the social or vocational circumstance. (more…)

My Real Time With Bill Maher

by Andrew Breitbart

To view video of Andrew Breitbart on HBO’s “Real Time with Bill Maher,” taped Friday, March 13, 2009 click here.

This week’s Washington Times column:

Pretty much everyone I respect in media and politics recommended I not go on HBO’s “Real Time With Bill Maher.” But on Friday night, I defied that wisdom and had the time of my life.

I sparred with Mr. Maher, Georgetown professor Michael Eric Dyson and a MoveOn.org audience from hell that booed my sentences before they were completed. Unfortunately, my wife and in-laws, who watched from the green room, were not as enamored with the experience as I was.

Since the salad days of ABC’s “Politically Incorrect,” which minted countless right-wing pundits and best-selling authors, conservatives have rightly assessed the HBO version of the Maher show as R-rated and shockingly hostile to their worldview. So most opt out.

I totally see why. But I think that’s exactly the wrong strategy.

The Hollywood Awards Show Not Shown on TV

by Andrew Breitbart

This week’s Washington Times column:

SIMI VALLEY, Calif. | After spending two weeks on something akin to a fact-finding mission in depressed New York and depleted Washington, D.C., I found no answers to our nation’s mounting ills. I discovered that there is much to be angry about and unlimited reasons for deep concern. But on the evening after my return, the stars aligned on the outskirts of Los Angeles at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library, and for a brief moment I felt safe again in America.

On Saturday, my wife and I were privileged to attend the second annual “Celebration of Freedom Gala.” We joined more than 1,000 others who, like us, were electrified to honor 43 of the 98 living Medal of Honor recipients. We also gave our thanks to former first lady Nancy Reagan, war hero and actor Charles Durning, and Gen. David H. Petraeus. (more…)

Rush to judgment: A media hopelessly divided

by Andrew Breitbart

This week’s Washington Times column:

The mood at the Omni Shoreham Hotel late Saturday afternoon was off the electrical meter when Rush Limbaugh took center stage at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC).

Hundreds of revelers packed the Regency Ballroom and hundreds more filled overflow rooms, hallways and stairways to watch on wide-screen TVs. It was a rare and much-anticipated public appearance of the man so powerful that President Obama singled him out for destruction in his administration’s first days.

Conservative pundits, party leaders and movement bigwigs took special care to position themselves close by so they could hang on every word of the only person who actually could accomplish what the three-day conference was all about – jump-starting the flagging conservative cause. (more…)

And Now For Something Completely Different, Please

by Andrew Breitbart

This week’s Washington Times column:

As CPAC begins in the nation´s capital later this week, the conservative movement has much to contemplate as it attempts to reestablish itself as a dominant force in American political life.

Actually, “relevance” may be a more reasonable short-term goal.

The timing of the yearly Conservative Political Action Conference could not be better suited for evaluating the strategies of the standard bearers of free markets and limited government as free-spending and nanny statist Obamaism runs amok with nary a media check or a legislative balance. (more…)

The Night the Oscars Died

Good night, friends.

Is Zac Efron the new Jared Leto?

Remembering Mumbai… Or Not.

by Andrew Breitbart

Bollywood was rocked late last year when Muslim extremists coordinated a deadly attack on India’s movie capital. Nearly 200 innocent people died. Yet with Slumdog Millionaire taking all these awards no one brings up this very recent impactful global event that is most certainly tied to decades of similarly heinous coordinated attacks on innocent civilians.

Yet Hollywood is silent tonight.

Like it was silent when filmmaker Theo Van Gogh was killed in 2004.

Ignoring the heinous behavioral traits of ascendant radical Islam — while isolating in the most parochial and partisan ways the wrongs in America — is the primary reason why for the last 7 1/2 years many of us neo-cons and ne’erdowells on the right have picked on Hollywood, and especially the Oscars.

When you join us in our fight against real evil, we will go back to indulging you on your big night your inconsistencies and eccentricities that tend to be naturally worked out in vital democracies like ours.

Best Oscar Moment Ever?

Styx reference?

Anyone ever see the VH1 Behind the Music on Styx. Beyond the best TV hour ever created. Must figure out way to see it. It builds up around the “Mr. Roboto” rock opera crafted by Dennis DeYoung for a Monsters of Rock headliner event. The tension between him and guitarist Tommy Shaw makes “Spinal Tap” look like “Schidler’s List.”

Who knew?

by Andrew Breitbart

I thought “Milk” was just a movie. I guess it was just a political statement. Glad Dustin Lance Black sent that subtle yet bold message to President Obama, Vice President Obama, Hillary and Bill Clinton and Americas majority black and Hispanic populations about their anti-Gay marriage stance.

And I hope you heard that, too. Osama. There will be gay marriage in your cave next.

Bold, Hollywood. Bold, Dustin Lance Black. This is why Hollywood rules!

RD Jr.

by Andrew Breitbart

Is about the only person in this entire mix I can root for. He was just subtle yet great on the red carpet. I always wonder what would have happened if Lorne Michaels let him do his thing during his short stint on SNL.

I’m sorry Americans United Against the Making Fun of People with Disabilities, Tropic Thunder was Funny and I hope Robert Downey Jr. beats the talented dead drug addict.

I Heart George Pennacchio

by Andrew Breitbart

It’s been years since I watched all this preamble, let alone a full Academy Awards, so bear with me.

After watching the local L.A. Red Carpet extravaganza featuring KABC entertainment reporter George Pennacchio I realized just how vast the divide between me and Hollywood proper is. When Pennacchio interviewed Queen Latifah and asked her about the “diversity” of the nominees I just about lost it.

“Diversity.” “Diversity.” “Diversity.” “Diversity.” “Diversity.” “Diversity.” “Diversity.” “Diversity.” “Green.” “Green.” “Green.” “Green.” “Green.” “Green. “Green.” “Green.” “Green.” “Green.” “Green.” “Green.”"Eco.” “Eco.” “Eco.” “Eco.”"Eco.” “Eco.”"Eco.” “Eco.” “Eco.” “Eco.” “Eco.” “Eco.” “Eco.”

What other sleep-inducing PC buzz words will we hear tonight? Are Melissa and Joan Rivers still in this racket? I think I miss them.

‘Spreading the Good Vibe’: New Orleans’ Finest ‘Cowboy Mouth’ to Play for U.S. Troops in Iraq, Kuwait

by Andrew Breitbart

Memo to all active duty servicemen and women stationed in Kuwait and Iraq: An amazing musical group and an almost surreal positive live musical experience is coming to a theater near you.

According to the Times-Picayune, New Orleans-based Cowboy Mouth will be coming to Iraq and Kuwait for two and a half weeks in the beginning of March. This is not PR puffery. This is a direct order: See Cowboy Mouth when they come to your base. There are no excuses. And send your photos — I will post them at Big Hollywood.

Back in my college days in New Orleans (’87-’91) I took advantage of the city’s historic music venues (Tipitina’s, Storyville, etc.), the cheap drinks and cover prices, not to mention the great bands born from that vibrant, otherworldly and unpredictable culture. In 1990 my friend Chris Huston was working for the local music magazine, Wavelength, and informed me that the locally famous former drummer of Dash Rip Rock (still a Southern-fried country-punk bar band without peer) was starting a new band and would be playing at the now defunct Jimmy’s on Willow Street. The Con Artists Have Taken Over the Asylum

by Andrew Breitbart

This week’s Washington Times column:

Can we all agree that the “hope, “change” and “transparency” part of the Barack Obama media carnival is officially over, and it’s finally time that we start holding our new president accountable?

Consider the tale of the ubiquitous “Hope” poster that helped get Mr. Obama worshiped, inoculated and elected — and the anti-capitalist street artist who “created” it.

Shepard Fairey last week was sued for copyright infringement by the Associated Press, which claims he stole photographer Manny Garcia’s work and made it the basis of the iconic off-red, white and blue posters whose signed editions are being sold on eBay for thousands of dollars.

If found guilty — a liberal application of “fair use” law could protect Mr. Fairey — we have a case of the white man stealing from an ethnic minority in order to turn a quick profit. (I thought an Obama presidency would automatically end such practices.)

Introducing the “Big Hollywood” Theme Song

by Andrew Breitbart

I don’t know what RevoLucian is but he, she, it or they is or are (a) genius(es)!

Listen to the *** profanity-laced *** techno-masterpiece inspired by Christian Bale’s ‘Terminator: Salvation’ set rage-out against cinematographer Shane Hurlbut for mistakenly walking into his scene.

The story is less than a day old but is already a legend of the Hollywood tirade genre.

If ‘Big Hollywood’ were ever to have a vote on the site’s theme song, I’d have to stop the voting early. Because ‘Bale Out’ would win. ‘Cause I’m in effin’ charge! Enjoy:

Bale Out – RevoLucian’s Christian Bale Remix!

I don’t think I will ever get this out of my head! Extra credit to RevoLucian for incorporating a previous Barbra Streisand profanity-laced tirade into the mix.

The True Face of Hollywood

by Andrew Breitbart

This week’s Washington Times column:

Sometimes I just don’t get the Republican Party.

Back in 2004, a smart, good-looking moderate Republican Hispanic ran for Congress. At the time Victor Elizalde was just under 40 years old and working as an executive at a big-time Hollywood studio. As an ethnic minority, a family man and a rare open conservative in an industry dominated by liberals, Mr. Elizalde represented hope and change for the Republican Party.

Yet because he was running for Henry A. Waxman´s safe seat, Mr. Elizalde got no support from the Republican Party . In fact, no one in the party´s leadership took notice of him. As a result Mr. Waxman trounced Mr. Elizalde with 71 percent of the vote. (more…)

Have Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore Already Broken the Celebrity Pledge of Servitude to President Obama?

by Andrew Breitbart

It’s been less than two weeks — ten days to be exact — but it seems that May-December Hollywood power couple Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore have already broken the spirit of their “Presidential Pledge” to Barack Obama.

Last week Big Hollywood drew attention to a 4:13 video directed by Demi Moore and starring Kutcher and fifty-six of their famous friends and intended to “illustrate how they will help make the nationwide change, inspired by President-elect Barack Obama, a reality.”

Iraq War Showdown: Bill Kristol Agrees to Debate Matt Damon After Actor’s “Idiot” Slam

by Andrew Breitbart

On Sunday afternoon Weekly Standard editor and New York Times columnist Bill Kristol — in an email exchange with Big Hollywood — agreed to debate Matt Damon on his Hollywood home turf after being informed the 38-year old actor ridiculed Kristol in an interview in the Miami Herald.

“He’s an idiot — he wrote that we should be grateful to George Bush because he won the Iraq war. We! Won! The! War!”

As the sponsor of the event, Big Hollywood is offering $100,000 to Damon (or to the charity or carbon credit of his choice) to publicly debate Kristol at a mutually agreed upon time, date and venue.

During the last election cycle the liberal activist Damon — who briefly attended Harvard University — also heaped scorn on John McCain’s vice presidential pick, Sarah Palin:

“You do the actuary tables, there’s a one out of three chance, if not more, that McCain doesn’t survive his first term, and it’ll be President Palin…. It’s like a really bad Disney movie, ‘The Hockey Mom.’ Oh, I’m just a hockey mom from Alaska, and she’s president. She’s facing down Vladimir Putin and using the folksy stuff she learned at the hockey rink. It’s absurd.”

Damon is no stranger to left-wing politics. His Oscar-nominated screenplay, “Good Will Hunting,” co-written with Ben Affleck, was inspired by anarchist Boston University historian, Howard Zinn.

According to Wikipedia:

Damon included a reference to A People’s History in his film Good Will Hunting. In a confrontation with his psychologist, played by Robin Williams, Damon’s character tells him: “If you want to read a real history book, read Howard Zinn’s A People’s History of the United States. That book will knock you on your ass.” Damon also read the latter half of People’s History for an audiobook released February 1, 2003.

If Damon agrees to participate, Big Hollywood will work with both parties to secure mutually agreed upon parameters for the debate (e.g., Did We Win the War in Iraq?)

Boycott Greg Gutfield’s ‘Red Eye’

by Andrew Breitbart

This week’s Washington Times column:

“Red Eye with Greg Gutfeld” on the Fox News Channel must be boycotted or taken off the air. Its sexist, misogynist, homophobic, racist, speciesist and self-hating host must be maimed, lynched and/or killed.

If not, someone might be offended. And that cannot happen – especially now that President Obama is poised to make everything really great.

In an era of extreme political correctness, when almost everyone is offended by almost everything, and with self-appointed advocacy groups organized to find offense on behalf of almost everyone – offensively, without the majority in the group’s consent – it’s nice to know that there’s a place to go where everyone can be offended almost all of the time.

Feelin’ the Healin’: Young Jeezy, Jay-Z Perform “My President is Black” Remix on Inauguration Eve

by Andrew Breitbart

I do not feel the need to offer much commentary.  I believe this video speaks for itself and expect no condemnation from the “hope-change” artistic community.  From knowledgeable people, I have been informed that Young Jeezy and Jaz-Z are popular troubadours in the Hop-Hip community.

I Pledge to Ridicule Celebrities Who Refuse to Recognize We Are At War With People Who Want to Kill Them, Too

by Andrew Breitbart

Many of the celebrities that were central to demonizing and making life impossible for President Bush for eight loathsome years NOW want to help with the heavy lifting of bringing America back together under President Barack Obama.

Witness Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher’s cavalcade of shiny, happy situational patriots appearing in a derivative public servitude announcement: A “Presidential Pledge” to President Barack Obama.

Forgive and forget? Right.
