I love it when pathetic non-entities like yourself love to pretend they are "in the know". Yeah - you have it all figured out. Why I bet you are probably a self-made millionaire, Rhodes scholar, Olympic athlete and part time brain surgeon. This is just your hobby right? Your are the joke. Get used to saying "President Palin".

"What you call "Protectionism" is what the Japanese and now Chinese are using to destroy us economically and grow by leaps and bounds."

And yet that is what you are advocating?

" What we practice, this strange religion of self-destruction YOU no doubt call "Free Trade" has resulted in a glide path to 3rd world status for us if we don't turn it around."

Perhaps. But you are attempting to turn it around in the wrong fashion, by sucking capital up by artificially raising prices. Which I have no reason to believe shall work.

"Funny, our most prosperous years were with the Protectionism."

Nope. 1980-92? 45-56? Ring any bells?

""Free Trade" is nothing more than a race to the bottom - an averaging of our standard of living with those living on dirt floors."

Have you EVER studied economics?

"It is hard to admit you have bought in to a lie but there is nowhere else you can run now."

So is this why you haven't admitted how deluded you are yet?

" Nearly everything we have is imported which is not only draining away
our capital but leaving the consumer with junkier and junkier products."

Which is because the consumer at home is being provided with even JUNKIER products, usually at higher prices, here. If you want to solve the importing issue, START HAVING THE DOMESTIC BUSINESSES BUILD THINGS AMERICANS AND FOREIGNERS ALIKE WILL CHOOSE OVER FOREIGN COMPETITORS!

"Funny, your kind likes to talk about "competition" but not only are domestic industries competing with foreign work forces living on dirt floors 20 to a home but their GOVERNMENT is subsidizing the company."

Not usually, for instance, Japan, Poland, Ireland etc.

"Indeed, people like you with a BASIC understanding of textbook theory on economics are a menace to the well-being of this country. Obviously the book doesn't cover the topic of "dumping.""

If there is one things I disdain more than arrogant wrong people, it is arrogant HYPOCRITICALLY wrong people. The only way we were able to combat "dumping" from ye olde British Empire in the decades after Independence was first by tariffs (which didn't really work too well), and then by removing said tariffs and forcing the companies to sink or swim by using our resources to make a product that could compete with the products the British were dropping off.

THAT worked.

You need to study economics more.

Right wing or left wing can apply to a person’s politic beliefs and not (necessarily) their party affiliation. Especially in our two party system where you have Republicans that vote liberal the majority of the time.

On the contrary, I'd love to hear your thoughts on all three points. A couple things I'd like to point out though. First, the bailouts were an atrocity. You won't hear me defending them in any way, shape or form. Postal service? Agreed, but they took a nosedive because of e-mail. Not enough of a niche market like Fed Ex, etc... There's no way they could operate the way they did pre-net. Social Security? Other than the challenges it faces in the coming years, it's done pretty well so far, although let's make an objective critique of the old school notion of corporate pensions that used to actually mean something until the Enrons or the world changed the game and made social security the primary income for many elderly people who had planned for something a bit more financially ambitious. But the main point I would make here is this: our healthcare system doesn't work for a HUGE percentage of our population. Our administrative costs are five times those of single-payer systems. The GDP rates are significantly higher as well (England and Canada are about 10%, we're at 16%). We have a full 20 percent of our population who have no coverage or not enough coverage. How can you claim that our system actually works? You may hate the words "socialized medicine" or all the other negative spin terms that have been used to describe single-payer healthcare, but the facts are that it actually does work... WAY better than our system does. We're the only first world Western country that doesn't have it, and the consequences are statistically unquestionable. And by the way.... since we are "the greatest country in the world" (tm), why do you think that we couldn't improve on the single-payer systems that other countries have? Sure, things aren't perfect in Canada, England, or France, but why couldn't we take the best elements of their systems and make it even better? Just because the government is involved in something, it doesn't mean it's doomed to fail. Our police force and firefighters should be proof of that. And at the end of the day, with the understanding that corporations are just as flawed, if not more so, than governmentally-run organizations, I like the idea that at least with governmentally-run systems, we can vote out the "ceo's" if they fail. Can't really do that in the private sector, eh?
