Another Celebutard of the Week: Britain (and much of Western Europe)
by Andrea PeyserCan a country get so caught up in lunatic political correctness that it ceases to respect human values and dignity? Can an entire land drink the Kool-Aid of enforced Islamofascism, to the point where every man, woman and child within its borders earns the cursed title “Celebutard?”
How about a continent?
With the exception of a tiny Vermont town that tried to indict President Bush, plus the lefty institution that is The New York Times, it was only idiot individuals who earned the C-title in my new book, “Celebutards: The Hollywood Hacks, Limousine Liberals and Pandering Politicians Who are Destroying America” (Kensington). That is, until Britain, our friendly neighbor across the pond, defied all reason and self-interest to advance the goal of sucking up to people who would kill Britons as soon as say, “Hello.”
Earlier this month, Britain detained a Dutch parliamentarian, Geert Wilders, at Heathrow Airport, and quickly shipped him back to the Netherlands. Wilders, claimed the Brits, constituted “a threat to public policy.”
What had he done? Condoned child sacrifice? Drank American beer? Nope. Wilders is set to be prosecuted in his native Holland for “inciting hatred and discrimination” and “insulting Muslim worshippers,” in his 2008 short film, Fitna, as well as in public statements.
What’s the fuss? Well, in the past, Wilders has called for a ban on the Koran, which he compared to Adolf Hitler’s Mein Kampf. His film Fitna contains footage from recent atrocities committed by Muslims, plus it presents the passages from the Koran that appear to have called for the bloody killings. The blasphemous film has been screened in Rome (go Italians!) but is having trouble seeing daylight in Britain or Holland.
According to the New Republic, the prosecution of Wilders resulted from extreme pressure put on Europe by the Organization of the Islamic Conference, which includes 56 Muslim states plus the Palestinian Authority. The OIC’s goal is plain: to make the world safe for sharia. And whether out of fear of its Muslim immigrant horde, or out of a deep-seated dedication to suicide, Britain is duly falling in line. This is a land whose union of university professors has tried long and hard to isolate Israeli academics and ban them from participating in research, evoking comparisons to Nazi Germany.
But the right to free speech pales against what the OIC calls forbidden “Islamophobia” that is practiced in modern European countries. Islamophobic activity, incidentally, can include opposition to illegal immigration, and any and all efforts to combat terrorism.
So when in Europe, be careful what you say and what you think. The speech police are out to get you. The thought police are coming next. Wait a minute – they’re already here.

I'll be honest, I have a bigger problem with people who live on their knees for radical Muslims more than I do with actual radical Muslims. Why?
The Muslims at least have the audacity to make demands of an entire continent. The Europeans are content digging their own graves. Let Europe burn, they deserve it in my opinion.
If the Muslims ever made such demands of me, I would give them a boot in the ass, as I am sure most Americans would.
Better to die on your feet than to live on your knees.
What's doubly horrible about this is that they shipped him back home, where he can become a political prisoner or murder victim. Bad enough that they didn't want him around, but far worse that another person's life and freedom mean so little to them.
What has happened to Great Britain? It's like everyone there has fallen asleep at the teat.
I follow the Euro news. It really is a very different world over there. Strange how they accept their decline.
This is one of my favorite subjects as I lived in Brussles for four years (96-00) and I am American (NY…Yankees Bitches!!) Americans here are so far removed from the Muslim problem across the pond as we tend to deal with our own immigration situation with our friends to the south. I urge any and all to look up Theo Van Gogh if you do not know the story from 2004. I cannot think of a better example to compliment Andrea's above commentary. Ill even give you a preview and spolier to how it ends: Murder…GYZULT NIET DODEN! Thou Shall Not Kill, written near the murder site was ordered taken down as it was, "Outlawed as incitement"
Five years later and this one still makes my blood boil.
Here we go again, Europe whistling, and skipping by the grave yard. The big question is, will the USA come to their rescue again?
People asleep at the wheel and governmental officials who are so concerned about offending everyone. It's a bad combination anywhere.
http://the100mostannoyingthings.blogspot.com/
Didn't we have a story here in the U.S. where a "moderate" muslim beheaded his wife, which was basically ignored by the MSM and none of the wimmin's groups could get worked up over? Are we following lockstep behind Europe?
Hopefully they will keep the restaurants, better hotels, and museums open. You think security will cost much as we travel around ? Hermes scarves should be very popular, but the pigs trotters are probably a thing of the past. It makes one worry about the availability of wine though. Pity the better designers and creative artists will have moved on.
Maybe we should just empty the museums now, bring the better stuff to America ( better people having moved prior)
and smugly sit here, with all the intellectuals, beautiful women, good wine and Asian trading partners.
The anti-free speech trend in Britain is of great concern and it will silence those British citizens that do disagree with the actions of their government. Geert Wilders is merely presenting his film Fitna that has been available on the internet all along. The film Fitna presents historical and current facts and events that have occurred and reported (by media that are actually alert) to the public already. The so-called charges he is facing in Holland are a complete farce, and a profoundly horrific consequence of deadly political correctness. Geert Wilders is a courageous politician.
PC gone wild, when Jihad gets slow give'em unemployment.
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2193373/...
And what does one expect from Londonistan? As long as cowardice is considered an attribute, 'Old Europe' (God, I miss Don Rumsfeld) will do it's fealty (Dhimmitude, as the Koran calls for) to the radical Imams that receive welfare… Wilders will get a fair accounting here in the US- at least until Pelosi&co. ban free (read that conservative) speech.
'tis a shame, too- the Brits, particularly the SAS, are Sierra Hotel when it comes to fighting terror…
that's s—- hot, to the uninititiated.
You speak in terms of the Western world, but there are two diseases causing ruin, not just one. The other is Zionism. The US seems to be run by Israel. If not for that, there would not be the backlash you complain about. Until Western civilization rejects BOTH of these foreign, Eastern, desert religions, it will continue to fail.
It does seem ironic that whilst Geert Wilders advocates a global first amendment, he is simultaneously advocating to ban books with which he disagrees.
There is no life form as low as the "European intellectual." And, the only good Brits are the dead Brits (Thatcher, Churchill, Cecil Rice, et al.) The EU and its citizenry deserve everything they are about to receive at the hands of their Islamic overloads.
Why not appreciate Israel? They are willing to live in a land where everyone fights them, and they are willing to kill for it. They deserve respect.
Who would be so stupid enough to deport someone for their beliefs?
Oh wait,
Cat Stevens deported amid terrorism fears
Did you actually read the article or did you just see the headline and think you found a "gotcha"?
They have evidence he donates to Hamas, sorry, but that's a link to terrorism. So let him go embrace Islam somewhere else. Londonistan seems perfect. Matter of fact we should be deporting everyone associated with that phony terrorist front CAIR.
And I'm not surprised at Britain, look who they elected PM…..
By that reasoning, the Apartheid South African government deserved respect. Funny thing is, Apartheid South Africa was an ally to Israel – funny how rarely that is mentioned in our controlled media. Why is invading someone else's land a reason for respect? They certainly aren't deserving of our tax dollars, or all the technology they steal from us (and sell to China). The attack on the USS Liberty – a botched false-flag attack like the Lavon Affair – should remove any doubt over whether they deserve anything from us, much less respect.
1. 'Zionism' is not a religion. It is a political movement. Judaism is a religion.
2. Christianity is also a "foreign, Eastern, desert" religion – a religion whose primary historical institution, the Catholic Church, played a primary role in building Western civilization, according to contemporary historians of science, law, and economics.
3. The US is run by Israel? Right. Also, the moon landings were faked, AIDS was created by the CIA to wipe out blacks, Nostradamus was able to predict the future, and the world is controlled by the Illuminati…or the Rosicrucians…or the Freemasons…or the Trilateral Commission…or the New World Order…or the Yale's Skull and Bones…or the Bilderbergs…or possibly the Waukesha Elks Lodge.
4. If Israel ceased to exist, the same people that hate the US now would still hate the US. The folks that hate Israel for "oppressing the Palestinians" would hate the US for "oppressing the Arab world" and/or for US "arrogance", much as they do now.
Thank god we have real men like Piyush Jindal to help take American into the 21rst Century free from the tyrannous yoke of political correctness. Or sanity.
I read it -What eveidence? "potentially linked", "accused"- well, that settles it. If its good enough for Tariq Ramadan or Maher Arar it's good enough for Cat Stevens!
Oh, good. Another phony conservative offered up by the CFR power brokers to give the illusion of choice.
You're kidding right?? Do you actually believe that nonsense?? Do you deny that Hamas kidnaps and beheads people? That they shoot rockets into civilian areas of Israel? That they hide behind women and children when launching these attacks?? Please, comparing them to ANY other government is intellectually dishonest.
I don't think you really understand what terrorism is…..
I'm sure they already "insist" on that. Thing is, "insist" means pout about it and that is about it. Just stop immigration. Immigration is what is being used to blur borders and bring in the New World Order.
When a nation stops having children the future becomes much less important to its citizens. The selfishness of the current generation of Europeans is amazing. They don't even want to share what they got with their own children… so they aren't having children. America is virtually alone among the western nations that has a birthrate that ensures it's future. Is it a surprise that America is growing apart from the other western nations? We are a nation that cares about the future because we have kids that will inherit the future.
I notice Mr. Islam didn't deny or fight it…..
You link to an article by Pat Leahy??? Are you trying to be funny now??
Better than any of the limp noodled socialists offered up by left-wing extremists like you. Can you sit there and say that Pelosi and Reid and all the other liberal politicians are good for the country with a straight face?
Further to TheDudeAbides – Rexter, do you want a list of terrorist acts that have been perpetrated around the globe in the name of the Palestians? Name one time Israel has attacked any country unprovoked. Please…
We are? Birthrates are low here, too – the reason given for the illegal alien invasion and H1B visas, etc… (but the REAL reason is the globalists want to destroy the middle class in the US.)
Rescue? We made Europe safe for the Soviet Union to dominate. Great job! Shouldn't have been involved in either of THEIR big wars and they wouldn't have been "world" wars. If not for our involvement in WWI, there would not have been WWII. But we were manipulated into that war by the bankers who were worried about their plans to rule the world being set back. Read "The Creature from Jekyll Island."
couldn't have said it better myself… good show!
I think that this person is an apologist to the core….
I can just see European history books a hundred years after the muslim takeover of Europe… The Tower of Pisa, built by Muhammad, peace be upon him, a gift for his 9 year old wife. The Palace of Versailles, inhabited by Muhammed, peace be upon him, as he be-headed the local pagans. Islam has a way of rewriting the history of areas it infects.
Thanks for proving my point. It is all a distraction like spectator sports. At least I can see the shadows on the wall. Why is a phony conservative like Bush or McCain better? They get government expansion even easier because the media says "well, if even republicans want it – it must be good." That is the "service" McCain has been providing Democrats for decades. It is all a show.
What happens in Europe will happen here. Free speech? The Fairness Doctrine is coming. We've elected, at best, a Socialist, more likely a Marxist. How does that square with brave boasts of "we Americans aren't going to put up with .." We Republicans put up with our (ex-)party nominating Democrat lite time after time until we end up with Bush who quadruples earmark spending over Democrats, allows Kennedy to write "no child left behind" welfare bill, ask Harry Reid, exclusively, to bless his pick of Meyers to the SC, etc., etc. So how is it America will not allow Europe to happen here? Half the country can't stop it's own party morph into Democrats as both move ever leftward.
Mr Rexter is proof the John Birch Society still lives and breathes… if there is one lesson to be learned in life it's men can't keep a secret… all of these 'conspiracies' would collapse of their own nuclear weight. Look at Stone's laugable 'JFK'- to buy into his fantasy, literally thousands of people
(CIA, Johnson administration, Bell helicopter, et. al.) would be implicated…
and to this day no one has come forward… as Gomer Pyle would say, 'Surprise, surprise'…
I think you'll find Mrs Thatcher is still alive. Is Cecil Rice the artist? You've lost me with that one. I think you'll find their are a number of good Brits currently putting their lives in the line fighting the Taleban in Afghanistan. For all it's faults, the UK remains the best stand up friend the USA has in the world. If this makes the country a celebutard, god help the rest of the world.
To all Libitards, try to educate yourselves here (for everyone else, its a reinforcement to what we already know)
http://perfectlyhuman.multiply.com/video/item/8
HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!! Since when has the media EVER said "well, if even republicans want it – it must be good." ????? Especially when it came to Bush??? And McCain didn't stand a chance against media creation Obama. Now I will agree that both of those guys were phony conservatives, but they are both better choices than Eco-Nazi Al Gore and his "Do as I say, not as I do" philosophy and John "FIRE BAD" Kerry……
Never attribute to cunning what can just as easily be explained by incompetence.
-Rule of Thumb for Conspiracy Theory
Is this why NAFTA was passed despite people calling in over 100-to-one to their congressmen to oppose it? That it was advanced by both a "Republican" President AND a Democrat one? Is this why they are determined to give Amnesty to the illegals despite overwhelming opposition by the citizens? Or why they keep giving money to Israel for no apparent reason – even after they plotted against us with the Lavon Affair and even murdered sailors on the USS Liberty?
Stone's JFK is not so nearly laughable as the "lone gunman" theory. JFK was killed because he was trying to get rid of the Federal Reserve.
This country's government has lied us into war after war because it is profitable for an elite few.
No was Yousef charged or convicted of any crime either -and that link is about Maher Arar- "Did you actually read the article ?!1!!eleventy1"
Just one? Well, they started the 1967 war AND they provoked it beforehand by encroaching in to neutral territories.
They made an unprovoked attack on our ally, Iraq.
They invaded Lebanon more than once. If "kidnapping" is a provocation, then just about every country has a justification for attacking Israel considering the foreign nationals they have kidnapped. They even kidnapped and assasinated foreign officials! They are THE terrorist state in that region!
They are in violation of multiple UN resolutions, refuse weapons inspections (despite having illegal WMD's), and commit ethnic cleansing as a POLICY.
The actions of the government is as hypocritical as it is with smoking. If smoking is so terrible – BAN it. If not, leave smokers alone. Instead, government sees it as REVENUE.
Same with so-called terrorism. If "these people" are a threat, deport them. Don't suspend civil liberties for everyone else. No, they WANT YOU to live in fear and they WANT the threat of terrorism so they can get both REVENUE and POWER.
Immigrants are having a lot of babies in America but so are the natives…
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,323028,00.htm...
Demographically, if you look at America's position from a world perspective we are looking pretty good. Our birthrate is right at the number needed to sustain our culture. We have an immigration problem but at least our immigrants share most of our values. Americans and Latinos have more in common then they have differences.
Europe on the other hand has declining populations across the board. At the same time they are being overrun by muslims who think little or nothing of traditional European customs, traditions or beliefs.
I'll take America with all of her problems over Europe any day.
Let me guess, you're a Truther….
I can agree with the thrust of your posts, but the shameless plug for your book is getting to be a bit much.
"Since when has the media EVER said "well, if even republicans want it – it must be good." ?????"
No Child Left Behind, Senior Drug Benefits, Amnesty, MORE gun control (thanks to the NRA's help on that one!)
"And McCain didn't stand a chance against media creation Obama."
Well, even if he had won, things would be largely the same.
It isn't my major issue, but I agree that too much stinks about the whole thing for the official story to fly.
Read Marc Steyn, America Alone; it says it all, and it ain't pretty!
"They don't even want to share what they got with their own children."
Neither do Americans, who are on board with charging a massive spending spree to their childrens' tax accounts. Americans aren't quite as bad as the Euroweenies just yet, but they are on the same path and have just elected a Euroweenie to show them the way. Watch birth rates here plummet in the next decade.
good point. Our media mostly ignored the story, and those that covered it said he had "removed" her head. We are on the Euroweenie path right now, I am afraid.
"Share our values"? Certainly not the illegals.
What is a "Latino"? Sounds like a fictional category to me. You mean "Mexicans"? The ones that fly Mexican flags?
Except incompetence usually loses money, not make record profits.
NCLB was co-authored by Rs and Ds, yes it was based on Bush's plan but this was a bipartisan plan. I mean, what media outlet would ever criticize a Kennedy? MORE gun control?? The brady bill expired and wasn't renewed, DC vs. Heller, the ability to carry a concealed weapon in parks…..you got this one wrong big time. The media absolutely SAVAGED Bush for years.
As far as amnesty, no argument there. But I highly doubt McCain would've introduced a bill that doubled our debt…..
France does, but Britain not so much. And we saw how effective France's efforts were two summers ago. Remember the riots? Sharia is actually OK in Britain (from Religious Intelligence, 02-22-09):
In a BBC radio interview on Feb 7, 2008, given before a lecture at the Temple Church on “Civil and Religious Law in England: A Religious Perspective” Dr Rowan Williams stated that it “seems inevitable” some parts of Sharia would be enshrined in this country’s legal system.
Other European countries have troubles with their immigrant populations to similar extent, but we don't hear so much about it over here (in the US). Immigration is what built this country and what will keep it strong. Intelligent people from around the world want to be free and if they can't get it in their own countries, we should welcome them here. I don't mind living in the greatest country on Earth, and if an immigrant from Ireland or Thailand or Zimbabwe can add to that greatness, I welcome them with open arms. If they want to keep their Irish or Thai or Zimbabwean culture, that's OK with me too, as long as they are willing to live by our laws, don't expect us to learn their language and don't expect us to take care of their needs.
Oh, and by "intelligent" I simply mean people who can think for themselves.
dude, get help, you're a sick pup
That sound you hear is your credibility circling the drain. My suggestion is meds and plenty of bed rest…..
Let me get this straight… If I visit Europe, I can't say anything bad about the Muslims but I can still say nasty things Jews right?
Well, I've never heard anything I didn't like from JBS. What of it?
I've never heard an American blow off the USS Liberty attack knowing it was intentional, though. that is a new one.
No, they wanted to blame the Egyptians for the attack. Watch "Dead in the Water" – a BBC documentary about it.
Regardless if Oswald was the only shooter – he sure wasn't working alone and there was certainly a reason he was assasinated before he could talk!
We are sharing with our children… our debt! I'm with you. There are enough right-minded people to pull America back from the abyss. What we need to give us voice is a conservative political party. The Republicans are not the answer. They are one head of a two-headed beast. ( http://chauvinistpig.com/?p=84 )The other head is the Democrats. I think it is too late for Europe. Even if they started having babies like rabbits they can't reverse the damage that has been done. Eurabia is inevitable.
I was looking over some archived blogs from 2008 on the subject because I heard about Austria's Suzanne Winter having the same fate as Wilders, and what I read made me realize I never understood the extent of the persecution against Wilders in his homeland. Apparently big name companies like Unilever were threatening to get damages out of him if their companies were boycotted, and people were arguing that he should no longer have police protection. All this because he used the actual footage from Muslim TV juxtaposed with the Quran? Then I watched the You Tube video series of 5 segments from Canada's Agenda on Maclean's and Islamaphobia where Mark Steyn had to listen to a panel of Muslims complain he actually said not all Muslims were involved in this pro-Sharia stuff at the beginning of the piece and had the gall to quote actual imams and the Ayatolla. Amazing when you can't quote their people.
Wilders is becoming my hero. Did you see what Rowan Williams said the other day about more prominent leaders there agreeing with his earlier comment that Sharia should be accepted in Britain? Let me juxtapose this with a Wall Street Journal article today on a Hindu politician who converted to Islam to marry a second wife. Apparently, their family court has two tiers (perhaps like Williams wants?) where the Muslims are allowed to take four wives but the Hindus only take one. How quaint.
There's alot more then mexicans running our border. Calling them all mexican is not accurate and it understates the scope of the problem.
Bush and gun control:
http://militarytimes.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1...
Heller is pro-gun control.
Bush deserved impeachment more so than Clinton and the media couldn't bring itself to even broach the topic.
This is about destroying the middle class and bringing in the New World Order which will be more like feudalism.
Instead of passively saying there is going to be immigration, just say "no." We don't need or want immigration. Since when did this become some sort of given? Just say "no." Then you don't have to worry about vetting them when you know it won't do any good anyway. Saying they are gonna "vet" them or "crack down" or whatever is just a means to placate you while they carry on doing exactly what they have been doing before.
How can you rescue something that is simply disappearing? We can't make them procreate.
Yup, Bush folded under leftist pressure like a lawn chair.
Heller was in no way shape or form gun control. ANYTHING other than what DC was living with would have been an improvement. This was a victory for the 2nd amendment, albeit a small one.
"Bush deserved impeachment more so than Clinton and the media couldn't bring itself to even broach the topic."
This statement is just plain false. Between MSNBC, The New York Times, and anything out of Kalifornia, there were DAILY screeches about impeaching Bush and bringing both him and Cheney to trial.
I don't think you're completely nuts, but it's close….
Nonsense. All immigration is not equal. We didn't have "immigrants" so much as pioneers that built this country. That deal went off when the IRS and wealth redistribution was created. Now they just add to the burden.
"Intelligent people"? Ohhhh, so there is an intelligence test? When did this start. Please fill me in on this.
Actually, culture is more important than "intelligence" but we are too afraid to demand either so just cut off all of it.
"If they want to keep their Irish or Thai or Zimbabwean culture, that's OK with me too, as long as they are willing to live by our laws,"
Laws have VERY little to do with quality of life. Nor does money. A shared culture is by far the largest factor.
OMG. What an idiot I am. Thanks for reminding me the great lady is still breathing.
Jeez, you need to stop heeding the MSM – it is rotting your brain. Heller paves the way for more gun control because it affirmed gun REGISTRATION.
Yeah, along with over 1/3 of the rest of America, right?
USS Maine – probably faked
RMS Lucistania – proven to be a setup
Pearl Harbor – comedy of "errors" that led to messages not getting passed on – McCollum Memo where a plan was laid out to provoke Japan to attack us
Gulf of Tonkin
And how about the burning of the Reichstag?
More often than not, the official story used as an excuse for violence from government is a LIE…..from that same government.
You must be a liberal – you seem to implicitly trust government…
No it didn't, it repealed the gun ban. It did not affirm anything except what the 2nd amendment means. Dude, seriously, give it a rest already….
In regards to vetting, I was being facetious. In regards to immigration I referred to "The Americas". I think most Europeans would choose any country except the US if they were forced to immigrate. Men stand up to pee here… for the time being.
For the record, I'm against immigration probably more so then you. But there won't be a change to our immigration policy while the Republocrats are running the country. They take turns sharing power and neither party has any intention of getting serious about immigration. Shouting about immigration reform with today's political realities is a waste of your breath.
Throw both parties out, then you might have a chance of change.
http://chauvinistpig.com/?p=26
"2. Christianity is also a "foreign, Eastern, desert" religion – a religion whose primary historical institution, the Catholic Church, played a primary role in building Western civilization, according to contemporary historians of science, law, and economics. "
Ummm……no. The Catholic Church, and much of Christendom was not a supporter of the things we think of as the foundations of Western thought and Western Civilization. The Church was often doctrinally opposed to things like science, medicine, democratic reform, literacy….the list is pretty long. The Enlightenment pulls the fangs of the early Church rendering it much less powerful–but not dead. Because of this–the fact that we kept our religion through the Enlightenment–we 'cleaned up' it's actual positions.
Wow dude, you are cuckoo for coco puffs…..
And I'm as far as you can get from being a liberal. But you seem to be cherry picking from the "Tin Foil Hat Handbook"
I don't suppose you have any proof of things like "USS Maine – probably faked" or "RMS Lucistania – proven to be a setup". And the Pearl Harbor statement is so over the top it's not even funny. You don't have to be crazy to buy any of this stuff, but apparently it helps….
I don't fly a Mexican flag. A person can actually celebrate the culture that thei ancestors came from without denying their love for America.
You bigoted attitude is why it's so hard to me to show the good side of conservative values to other Latinos.
I don't fly a Mexican flag. A person can actually celebrate the culture that ther ancestors came from without denying their love for America.
You bigoted attitude is why it's so hard to me to show the good side of conservative values to other Latinos.
Well, the Pearl Harbor thing happened in the movie (filled with liberal actors) so it must be true, right?
Dan Ackroyd was trying to warn us but Jon Voight just wouldn't listen so Ben Affleck and Alec Baldwin had to save America.
I never understand why people like you, Latino4Liberty, support the republicans (obviously, even though you used the term conservative). They love getting your vote, but they would burn you to heat their house if it got cold enough. Same goes for black republicans and gay republicans. The conservatives will conserve themselves at your expense every time.
What UN resolutions? Oh, the one from the UN Security counsel led by Sudan??? Yeah whatever. And weapons inspections? Israel has been nuclear as long as they have existed. What's to inspect? Israel does not have "illegal" WMD's anymore than France does. Ethnic cleansing policy, hmmm. What would that be now? So protecting your people and your country from attack is now called "ethnic cleansing".
I would take you more seriously if you actually gave specifics rather than blather on in generalities.
[Begin Part 2]
Reputable historians freely attest the democracy of political theory and practice in the Middle Ages, i.e. long before the Enlightenment, when the Catholic Church was the prime source of education and scholarship. Otto Goerke states: “An ancient and generally entertained opinion regarded the will of the people as the source of temporal power; political authority by Divine grant and absolute power was wholly foreign to the Middle Ages.” (“Political Theories of the Middle Ages,” pp. 38-39). “Medieval doctrine gave to the monarch a representative character” (ibid. p. 61). Dr. A. J. Carlyle asserts, “The emperor derived his authority, ultimately, no doubt, from God, but immediately from the nation, and this fact [he adds], requires no serious demonstration” (“Hist. Med. Pol. Theory in the West,” Vol. I, p. 292, and Vol III, p. 153). Carlton J. H. Hayes writes “Constitutional limitation was a medieval tradition” (“Pol. And Scc. Hist. Of Med. Europe,” Vol. I, p. 264). Lord Acton says, “Looking back over the space of a thousand years, which we call the Middle Ages, we find that representative government was almost universal. Absolute power was deemed more intolerable and more criminal than slavery.”
Though monarchy was still the norm for government, nearly two hundred years before the Declaration of Independence and the French Revolution, Cardinal Bellarmine laid down lucidly the whole theory of real democracy ("De Laicis", "De Officus Princ.", “De Clericis, “Recognitio de Laicis”), works that contain numerous passages parallel to those found in the Declaration of Independence.
Want more? Fine. It is pretty much common knowledge that the monks of northern Europe preserved the literary treasures, not to mention literacy itself, of the West after Rome collapsed, but they did much more than that. The brothers gave “the whole of Europe a network of model factories, centers for breeding livestock, centers of scholarship, spiritual fervor, art, readiness for social action – in a word, the advanced civilization that emerged from the chaotic waves of surrounding barbarity. Without any doubt, St. Benedict (the most important architect of monasticism) was the Father of Europe. The Benedictines, his children, were the Fathers of European civilization”. (”Monastic Realm” by Gregoire, Moulin, and Oursel)
Oh, and just to pile on, the great 20th century economist Joseph Schupeter calls the Spanish Scholastics of 15th and 16th century Spain the founders of modern scientific economics. And good luck finding any Enlightenment institution that had even the slightest comparative level of charity and commitment to the poor that the Church did.
You may now return to belittling the Church and its contributions to civilization.
Another thing which converted me from Conservatism, in addition to living the nightmare Progressive Left and finding it to be hellish, was closely watching over the last several years the demise of Europe today and seeing America's death tomorrow.
I cannot in good conscience follow Europe's path towards destruction so I joined Conservatives or rather Classical Liberals who understand what is at stake, that being, the fall of Life, Liberty, the pursuit of happiness and all the freedom that they bring.
I never needed President Bush to tell me why we must fight, it was the fall of Europe today which made me see where America will be tomorrow.
But unlike Europe, I will never surrender to tyranny.
And one more thing….I will no longer be emotionally blackmailed by politically correct identity czars who attempt to shame me into compliance; I have seen what these czars have done to all of Europe and I am not going to let them do it to me.
Correction, that's "converted me TO conservatism"
Okay, then don't attribute to centralized conspiracy what can be explained by decentralized greed. I'm familiar with "The Creature"; it's half solid, half insane paranoia.
Reply to Jack – Part 1
Ummm, no sir, it is you who are misinformed. That the Catholic Church "was often doctrinally opposed to things like science, medicine, democratic reform, literacy" is wishful thinking that goes against a mountain of current scholarship by experts in their field.
For the last 50 years, virtually all historians of science, including A.C. Crombie, David Lindberg, Edward Grant, Stanley Jaki (the sole religious on this list), Thomas Goldstein, and J.L.. Heilbron, have concluded that the Scientific Revolution was indebted to the Catholic Church. This contribution went beyond mere ideas, but extended well into accomplished practicing scientists, many of whom were priests. Father Nicholas Steno (1638-1686), is cited as the father of geology. The pioneer in Egyptology was Father Athanasius Kircher (1601-1680). The first person to measure the rate of acceleration of a free falling body was another priest, Father Giambattista Riccoli, in 1651. The Jesuits figured so prominently in the field of seismology that it became known as “the Jesuit science”. The Church gave more financial aid and support to the study of astronomy over the 6 centuries preceding the Enlightenment than all other institutions put together. And don’t even kid yourself into thinking that you can say “Galileo” and score any points. The heliocentric model was put forth by a Polish priest, Copernicus, a century earlier, and nobody in the Church had a problem with it. Galileo got in trouble because a) he insisted on teaching it as fact when it could not be proven yet (the instruments to confirm it hadn’t been invented yet), b) he insisted on publicly mocking everyone who disagreed with him, and c) he managed to alienate even those who agreed with him with his big mouth. Even 19th century agnostic Thomas Huxley, after reviewing the facts of the case, concluded “The Church had the better argument.”
The foundations of international law were laid in 16th century Spanish universities (all Church run), and Francisco de Vitoria, a professor and priest, is still known as the father of international law. And not just international law, but a legal system: legal scholar Harold Berman wrote “It was the Catholic Church that first taught Western man what a modern legal system is like. The church was the first to teach that conflicting customs, statutes, cases, and doctrines may be reconciled by analysis and synthesis.” (”Law and Revolution: The Formation of the Western Legal Tradition” by Berman) The idea of formulated rights does not, as some may erroneously think, originate with Locke or Jefferson, but from the canon law of the Catholic Church, which was formulated in the 12th and 13th century.
Part 1, details about a) virtually all historians of science have concluded that the Scientific Revolution was indebted to the Catholic Church, and b) The foundations of international law being laid in 16th century Spanish universities (all Church run), has disappeared. I will repost if requested.
For every traumtic event, 33% of the people always believe that there is a some vast conspiracy connected. Are you always one of that 33%?
In regards to men standing up to pee here…I read an article a while back where a local school is requiring all the young boys to sit down to pee just like the girls do …all to save a few wet seats!! So we have already staerted that movement here. Enjoy.
Your are exactly right about the Republicans. They are no longer discernible from the Democrats. Republicans, Democrats are two heads of the same beast. The Republocrats. In order to get our nation back on track we need to remove both parties from power. Until we do that the Republocrats will continue to use issues like abortion and gun control to divide the electorate which in turn ensures that they maintain control of power.
Throwing them all out is the only way to fix what ills our nation.
Steyn's book is a must read. He tells a scary story and provides plenty of data to support his point of view.
The Lusitania was carrying munitions and running the blockade. German embassy sent a warning to be published but was suppressed from publication in all but ONE newspaper. An escort from the UK was withdrawn. MUCH more about it than you probably know. Read the Creature from Jekyll Island.
There is a VERY big difference. Israel wants to be "sovereign" while at the same time receiving enormous amounts of money and aid from the US. They are back-stabbers.
Mizzle, you are so full of shizzle. You have no idea how a conservative thinks. Democrats are still stuck in their race based politics. Conservatives could care less about a person's race, the focus is on the individual's merit. Do you think Republicans picked Michael Steele to lead the party because he is black? No. He is the new leader because he is a conservative who can clearly articulate a plan for putting Republicans back into legislative seats.
Stop letting race blind you and see the person for their merits.
Britain as a "celebutard"? That's taking a stupid term and making it stupider. Didn't think that was possible, but…
Anyway, I'm glad for the lively political discussion but how is any of this related to Hollywood or movies?
As if you'd let us…

Occupied territories, blockade, checkpoints, bulldozing home, ILLEGAL settlements, etc…. This is not to protect Israel but to ethnically cleanse Palestinians off their land.
Get a clue Mizzle, Republicans want ALL people to pull their weight in our society, not just sit back and wait for the government to tell them when their next check is coming. I could care less what color, race, or creed you are, if you are costing me money or my liberty then you are my enemy.
You could've stopped after "I never understand". Don't try to understand latinos, blacks or gays, just try to fool them into voting for the Party that likes to keep them as pet victims. Republicans and conservatives want Government out of our lives, like personal responsibility and if want to give to charity (which more of us do than liberals) we give our own money, not our neighbors.
