Meet the Cry-Wolf Racists: Dowd, Garofalo, Carter
by Alan NathanWhat do actor/comic Janeane Garofalo, New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd and former President Jimmy Carter all have in common? They commit racism in the name of fighting it, but still expect to be taken seriously. In short, their grasp of self-awareness has the finely tuned grip of a yak opening a jar of jelly.
Our health care debate has fortunately exposed much ugliness too long ignored. Like most political animals (elephants or donkeys), these three give a pass to their own for that which they never tolerate from others. They’re the kind of individuals rightly scorned by Shakespeare’s Antonio in The Merchant of Venice when he said, “Oh what a goodly outside falsehood hath,” Act I, Scene iii. More specifically, Garofalo, Dowd and Carter have morphed into the very beings most of us loathe – those who accuse others of the very evil they have done themselves. They are cry-wolf racists.
During her routine at the 9:30 Club in DC on August 21, Janeane Garofalo referred to health care opponents as simply exhibiting “emotion over being angry that there’s a black guy in office.” In true dissenter-phobic zeal (pardon the neologism), she called them “functionally retarded” and “racist.” She speculated that, “You know what they’re really saying is, ‘I want my white guy back.’”
Maureen Dowd offers similar guessing in her New York Times column on September 12:
Surrounded by middle-aged white guys — a sepia snapshot of the days when such pols ran Washington like their own men’s club — Joe Wilson yelled ‘You lie!’ at a president who didn’t. But, fair or not, what I heard was an unspoken word in the air: You lie, boy!
Finally, on September 15, President Carter theorizes on NBC Nightly News:
I think an overwhelming portion of the intensely demonstrated animosity toward President Barack Obama is based on the fact that he is a black man, that he’s African-American.
Garofalo’s “what they’re really saying,” Dowd’s “unspoken word in the air” and Carter’s “I think…animosity… is based on the fact that he is a black man” share a common denominating theme – they’re supported by zero facts relevant to the specific people getting tarred as racist.
The moment they predicate assertions of racism on grounds that are devoid of any corresponding foundation, they become guilty of using race to marginalize otherwise innocent folks. Whenever you leverage skin color to intimidate opposing speech, BINGO, you’re actually implementing the very racism you claim to despise.
By their measure, no person of color should ever have to defend his or her politics. Are they genuinely unable to discern the difference between issues relevant to racial conflict versus conflict transpiring between those who are simply not of the same race? A Black guy and a White guy can disagree over the same things that might be the case for two Blacks, two Whites, two Hispanics, two Asians or two Semitics. But according to these abridged thinkers, if they’re not of the same race, it’s a racial conflict. This is inexcusably and embarrassingly unevolved.
In the interest of fair disclosure, I’m an aggressive centrist. For example, I concur with most conservatives in my support for the war in Iraq, the war against fanatical jihadists, smaller government, lower taxes, originalist judges and the genuine belief that health care reform should be more targeted and less all-encompassing. However, I’m also a social progressive who’s pro-choice, pro-gay rights, pro-gay marriage and pro-reparations for African-Americans. I’m additionally of the view that both conservatives and liberals have been responsible for our current health care challenges.
Republicans claim that health insurance out of the workplace would lower costs, but still take funds from HMO lobbyists who want the opposite. Democrats argue that health insurance devoid of waste would cut prices, but continue banking the bucks from trial lawyers opposing the very malpractice reform necessary to make it happen. Consequently, both parties ensure that their moneyed constituents trump their voting constituents.
There are plenty of grounds for legitimate debate. However, fringe folks like Garofalo, Dowd and Carter must learn that invectives without premise are masturbatory. Given their volume, not even a Sham Wow! could clean up their mess.

Wolf!
You have picked a fairly unattractive group of people to expose. Is that fair ? Hasn't Megan Fox said something, about anything, anywhere ?
well, in your statement of being a moderate. how can you be pro reparations, unless you can prove those who pay the reparations, are giving it to the people who they enslaved. my family is from outside the us, are we supposed to pay reparations? isn't that part of your argument a fault, that undermines your whole story? i have been accused of being a racist, not for being a racist. i was accused because of the people in question trying to cove their backside. so instead of light shining on them, they tried to move the spotlight to me with false accuasations. perhaps you need to rething the moderate thing. remember the moderate chicken gets hit every time when the stay in the middle of the road. perhaps its time to pick a side, and stay there.
Sham-Wow mess?
Now that'll take years of therapy to erase from the mental image bank,.. eeeee-yuck.
Excellent point though. They convince no one, bully no one, as much as they try, and affect no one save their own delusions that folks may care what they think. It's just mental masturbation for them, and for the life of me, I can't fogive the MSM for not calling them on their racebaiting, they in fact, help them do it.
Just once, can an interviewer look Jimminey in the ere, and say,..
Well, that was a stupid thing to say, you want to rethink that?
Your analysis is dead on sir. I am not as concerned with Garofalo or Carter, as I do not know a rational human being that these two seriously, my concern lies with Dowd. If you look at the text of what she said, she blatantly implicated herself:
"Surrounded by middle-aged white guys — a sepia snapshot of the days when such pols ran Washington like their own men’s club — Joe Wilson yelled ‘You lie!’ at a president who didn’t. But, fair or not, what I heard was an unspoken word in the air: You lie, boy!"
What exactly do you mean by what I heard Ms. Dowd?
That's the most unflattering photo of JG ever!
LOLz @ rouebadouz – good suggestion! I personally would prefer a story on Daz Crawford – pictures ONLY please! ;p
On a serious side: I love the being called a racist, it shows their lack of intelligence, so I say: bring it on!
@ peteee – where in the heck are you getting the reparations from? BUT in regards to that: my ancestors – all 4 grandparents – came over on the boat LEGALLY, might I add, and HAD to have sponsors to take care of them when they got here. One grandpa couldnt wait to sign up to fight in WWI (from Norway) – so proud he was to be American, another grandpa (Denmark) worked his TAIL off so he could purchase over 400 acres of farm land in a dream to support his family AND theirs one day. My grandmothers came from Scotland and Czech, so I *know* no one in MY family did anything like that and I dont believe in it anyways. Black men sold their 'brothers off' to make a buck, so I say: go look at THEIR ancestors for reparation.
Q: "What do actor/comic Janeane Garofalo, New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd and former President Jimmy Carter all have in common?"
A: None of the above are funny.
every photo of her is the most unflattering. Truth does hurt eh?
These people are brainless pigs. Sorry for insulting pigs.
Where MoDo, Mr. Peanut and the Tattooed Lady run into problems is that they're so used to throwing the race card at conservatives and not being called on it in battles where the swing voters and moderates are normally sitting things out, they don't realize that when those same voters are engaged in an issue like heath care, calling them racists is not a smart long-term strategerie.
They don't have either the desire and/or the brain power to comprehend that the moderates have serious concerns about nationalizing health care, and don't like having their concerns being tarred as closet racism towards Obama, especially since they were the ones who helped put him in office in the first place. "Thanks for your vote, now shut up and do what you're told or we'll destroy your reputation," probably isn't going to be a good campaign plan for the 2010 midterms and on into 2012, and the more savvy liberal Democrats are starting to figure that out. But as long as people like Dowd, Carter and Garafalo are out there continuing to throw the race card without being directly admonished by their leader (stronger than that limp "I was white before the election" line Obama trotted out on Letterman Monday night), they're not going to get the swing voters back on their side.
I read the reparations thing,.. I'll give him a pass on it. He's on our side on the important issues, and we can agree to disagree on the others. If you list enough things you believe we all diverge from each other at some point, so on the bigger issues,.. we need to think big tent,.
I agree that middle of the road isn't a good place to be.
Moderate is a better word, as you can hold opinions from both sides, but not parsing the middle ground on a particular idea. We all agree there is no middle ground on say, murder, it's bad, there is no, but a little murder….
I think you can be strictly principled on the 1st amendment,. and on the second too. On social issues,.. it gets complicated…
Guess I'm just saying, I welcome his imput, even if we disagree on some things other than this.. I welcome yours too… Ronald Reagans influence I guess, we can find our common ground.
The left burns heretics, we accept ours with better grace, at least I have found we do.
Sorry, you lost me at reparations. I see no justice in forcing me or any other American, who has never owned a slave, from paying off a voting block just to keep modern liberals in power.
I have only 3 relatives that lived in America during slavery, and they fought in the Union army to end it. You want to feel better about yourself by giving money to grievance groups, then give them your own damn money.
Janeane, Jimmy and Maureen? Now that is certainly a threesome of mental midgets who undoubtedly have much in common; I'm sure if they were thrown together in one room they would definetly have a mental masturbatory fornication fest. Ah yes, Liberal Fascist Militants at their finest!
I am curious, would Janeane be consider a wolf, a cougar, or a pig?
Speaking of pigs, isn't it about time for Rosie O'Donnell, Whoopi Goldstien and O-pray Winfrey to voice in?
No her career is still going good…. FOR NOW!!
But wait until a few flops and her looks start to go down hill, she'll go moonbat fast.
Spot on, it is like when Nader attacked the Corvair with no facts and stopped production of a great car line, because he could do it to be noticed, a platform to continue from. Basta!
Mr. Nathan;
It seems that some of you're positions a more than just a litlle contradictory, but I will grant you that pols, left and right, are part of the problem and not the solution. As for Garafalo, Dowd and Carter; we need people like that to make the rest of us look good.
Those racebaiters fling the race card the way zoo monkeys fling feces. The name of the game is simply keep it in the air and see what might stick to the wall…………..
At first I thought the picture of Janeane was of her leaning on the side of a bathtub. After closer inspection I noticed I was mistaken. How strange that for one moment I would actually believe she knows what a bath is.
did you read the end, where the writer said he was pro-reparations? to me once someone makes a argument, then says something way outta here, then it makes the whole story questionable. like when you now hear newt saying he wants to be part of a anti-global warming crowd, or charlie sheen saying 9/11 was a inside job, does anthing else they say hold any water?
Reparations. 110,000 Union soldiers killed in battle. 360,000 Union soldiers died of disease. 275,000 Union soldiers wounded. Isn't that reparations enough?
You meant woof, right?
If blacks want "reparations" they can sue the Confederate States of America.
I'm not giving anyone a "pass" on that one. It's freaking idiotic.
Start? I do believe they've already gone downhill…
lol yes, how strange.
When you look in the dictionary under hateful, spiteful, lonely hag I just know a picture of garofalo is there.
Reparations are a tough nut to crack. How can we tell John Casor's descendants (first slave in what is now the US, and a black man) from Antonio Johnson's (first slave owner in what is now the US, and a black man)? Do Johnson's descendants deserve reparations for bringing slavery to America?
No. They want cash.
By the way, how, exactly, would "reparations" differ from "welfare"? Would they be separate checks, or could we just add them together to save postage?
Just goes to prove a Nation should always be careful what it goes to war for. They might regret in the future what they won. It is too late though, you can keep 'em up North. We sure as hell don't want 'em down here…
"As for Garafalo, Dowd and Carter; we need people like that to make the rest of us look good. "
Ummm, naaaa. We can look good all on our own TYVM.
It looks like she might be naked. I thought it was kind of hot…
"I'm sure if they were thrown together in one room they would definetly have a mental masturbatory fornication fest"
Without ever reaching "satisfaction" because their mental capacity is limited.
lol, I think the pigs would forgive you.
I'm lost as well. However, I’m also a social progressive who’s pro-choice, pro-gay rights, pro-gay marriage and pro-reparations for African-Americans.
I'm trying to figure out how this is different from the average liberal mindset.
Comparing Garofalo, Dowd and Carter to yaks is manifestly unfair to yaks. They (the yaks) have done nothing to deserve such ill treatment.
Most Americans hoped that a Barack Obama presidency would change many problems in this nation. The simple fact that he was elected showed that racism was declining.____We wanted a strong economy and were willing to help those who needed health care among other concerns. Unfortunately, Obama saw this as an opportunity for him and a puppet Congress to increase taxes on us and gain government control over our financial institutions, our businesses, our health care and move America toward Socialism.____Then, his own racism showed when, without all the facts, he claimed the Cambridge Police Department had acted stupidly by arresting his pal, Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates Jr. Now Jimmy Carter, Nancy Pelosi and the liberal media are pouring fuel on the racism fire.____Through all of this Barack Obama continues to mis-represent the facts. To publicly "wee-wee" on Americans and tell them it's raining is stupid. Sure, you can fool all of us some of the time and you can fool some of us all of the time but you will inevitably be exposed.____GOOD JOB OBAMA…__http://usataxpayer.org/page.asp?Get=headlines
"However, I’m also a social progressive who’s pro-choice, pro-gay rights, pro-gay marriage and pro-reparations for African-Americans. I’m additionally of the view that both conservatives and liberals have been responsible for our current health care challenges. "
Sorry but on this I have to disagree 110% At least on the reparations part. IMO we have already given WAY more then enough back to the African-Americans of this country. I would say countless lives lost in a civil war in order to FREE them was plenty. Not to mention the countless dollars that we spend every year on welfare for the ones that choose not to work. I'm getting tired of all the whining and bitching all in order to get something else for free.
Here's the difference: Mr. Nathan supports BOTH "original intent" constitutional interpretation AND Roe v. Wade.
Even liberals aren't that confused and self-contradictory.
Clintons ratings only one lower then obamas at this same time.

The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For out of the overflow of his heart his mouth speaks. (NIV, Luke 6:45)
Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; who substitute darkness for light and light for darkness; who substitute bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes, and clever in their own sight! (NAS, Isaiah 5:20-21)

Rockefeller republican. Quite happy with big government, and even at that, not even that upset with not being in charge of it.
It allows them to rattle off two or three policy differences, declare that's proof they have core values, and still be included on the cocktail circuit.
Really Ms. Dowd? You heard boy? I am pretty sure everyone else heard "You Lie, you incomoetent doofus!"
Citing references to the US Constitution itself, can you argue exactly how Roe v. Wade is constitutional? Because I certainly can't find any sentence that specifically states the federal government has any authority on the issue at all. And, according to the 9th and 10th amendments, if the federal government is not granted specific authority over an issue, it is beyond the scope of the federal government's authority.
You were doing so good until the reparations thing.
The Republican tent ain't that big.
I believe the PROPER term for them is "swine"!
"Because I certainly can't find any sentence that specifically states the federal government has any authority on the issue at all."
I believe that the right to life is in the Constitution.
Geez!
I didn't realized my monitor came in smell-o-vision, 'cuz I'm picking up something nasty!
Am I surprised that at the end of the day the biggest race-baiters are the one's calling everyone racist. Yeah, no. What does surprise me is that it has taken until 2009 for people to start to see this. PEOPLE please.
True conservatives believe "equality" means "equality." Always have.
Let me see if I understand this porpaganda; just when the ACORN scandal is picking up steam, just when the NEA scandal is picking up steam, the UN happens to be in town, and the only news on the idiot box today is a heightened state of terrorist plots? OK, I got it; sweep the whole deal under the rug, duct tape your windows, cough into your elbows and kiss your asses goodbye…………………..
Reparations is like giving welfare to someone whose grandparents were unemployed. Stupidity on high.
Reparations is like giving welfare to someone because their grandparents were unemployed. Stupidity on high.
The Roe Court found that the 14th Amendment was enough to protect the privacy of US citizens and allow abortion, since that is a fundamental right. The Courth also found that there were no legal grounds for protecting a fetus, because the 14th Amendment states "All persons born or naturalized in the US" were subject. Unborn don't count.
The Roe opinion was written by Harry Blackmun, who originally was a Republican but later turned to the dark side who thought it better to preserve choice over taking life.
Roe v. Wade lacks constitutional foundation and needs to be overturned. Even Norma McCorvey, (Jane Roe), who was the plaintiff int he orginal case has reversed her stance on abortion and finds it morally wrong. Norma McCorvey never even had the abortion.
Correct, Roe v. Wade should be over turned for no other reason than its unconstitutional. As I understand it, he made a jambalaya out of three of four "rights" under the Bill of Rights, judged that sufficient to declare a "right to privacy" is implied, and used that to justify federalizing the entire issue.
Over turn Roe v. Wade because its pure and blatant example of judicial legislation, turn the issue back over to the states, where the constitution clearly states it belongs, and let the states hash it out.
In my opinion, the only reason for Roe v. Wade was to allow pro-abortion forces marshal their troops in one single federal court room, rather than have to slug it out in all 50 state top courts and legislatures. Hardly worthy of justifying such a stain on We The People's constitution.
Some states will outlaw it altogether, some states will allow all forms of it, and most other states will end up some where in the middle. But the key fact is, We The People will be able to have our say at the ballot box on the issue, as the federal constitution originally provided for.
I thought reparations came when Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation?
I thought reparations came when the US set up Liberia for the repatriation of slaves to Mother Africa?
I thought reparations came when the Civil Rights Act was enforced?
What have I done to deserve having MY freedom and livelihood reduced/taken away?
For people who have such an obvious ego-centric view of history, they live too far in the past to remember it.
my personal request: no more pics of garofalo. makes me want to punch something.
Reparations WERE paid with the lives of thousands and thousands of white men, when the black man could not fight for himself. Reparations were paid by free land when the black man was set free from slavery and reparations have been paid by the tax payer in this country who have spent untold trillions of dollars in trying to effect the GREAT SOCIETY. END OF STORY!!
Excellent article on RACE.
http://canadafreepress.com/index.php/article/1497...
Janeane, Carter and Dowdy should read it……..
Eyebleach please. Now.
That lovely portrait of Garafalo is reminding me too much of a college friend who brags of being world traveled, and yet the truth comes out she mooches frequent flyer points and then goes to third world countries where "The people there wait on you hand and foot for just a few dollars a day."
It's the stink of hypocrisy seeping off of that oily dirty laundry smelling portrait that's staining my monitor. Now I have to clean my entire computer.
Thank you.
Give a warning, next time
Dang, at first I thought that was just an ugly painting. Then I realized it was too real to be a painting, but ugly enough to make you wish it was.
I think Garafalo is still angry that she isn't better looking.
Umm, I was being facetious.
testing….
Yup. Shore 'nuff.
It probably won't happen under Obama's watch. Code Pink and the other people without real jobs would go ballistic and I think they are the only ones still supporting the President and not in legal trouble. Funny how that works.
We have some real house cleaning to do. The thought that people would go to Congress and do what is right has been vanquished and we find our homes sold, our health in jeopardy and the state of the Union in disarray.
Do you think we can keep the Republic that was handed to us?
Anyone remember Howard Cosell? If people need a reminder do a Bing Search or a Google search. He was the first national victim of race baiting. Maureen Dowd and company just keep moving the needle. But like the post above states its crying wolf now. You can't say a person is a racist when nothing about that is true. The strategy is done..kind of like CapnTrade and the Health Care bill….we just sit and wait for teh funeral.
Dr. Thomas Sowell doesn't support socialized medicine? He must be a racist.
Hey, Janeane. Ever hear of a new invention? It's called shampoo.
Not even in a cosmic kind of way?
They'd never be able to finish it. They would declare it gave them racist cooties before the end of the first paragraph.
Ah dang, some one sells eyebleach? Why didn't you say so before I pried my eyes out with a rusty spoon?
No it's not. It's in the Declaration of Independence, which is a splendid statement of principles, but has nothing to do as the basis of our laws.
Self-hating Whites are a pathetic sight to behold. This threesome are indeed pathetic. I wonder, since they are uniformly contemptuous of Christianity and its practitioners, Why do they embrace a lunatic interpretation of "feed the hungry and clothe the naked" as well as "welcome the stranger in your midst"??? One might think they would see the hypocrisy, but then again, there is that whole "speck and mote" thing to consider. Heavy sigh.

Or, how much do Obama's kids get? They have one African-American parent (possibly descended from US slaves) and one half-Kenyan parent with no slave ancestry.
Why do people care about these people who have no responsibilities and recourse for anything that comes out of their mouth. We should not be paying attention and in some cases idolizing these type of people. Comon, they are in many cases worse than us and certainly not better.
I think Garafalo would be a cow or perhaps one of those beetles that roll dung around.
These three cry 'Racism" in the absence of evidence. The next stage of the pathology has been exhibited by The Nation-:crying "Racist" based on *made up* evidence. The Nation has reached this level, claiming that the 912 rally comprised "thousands"of Confederate flags" and pepole chanting "White Power!."
The nice thing about being a leftist is the convenience of postmodern logic under which reality is an artificial construct, and little nuisances like 'facts' can be ignored.

I agree, it won't change anytime soon. But I'm very optimistic over the current Supreme Court. Say what you want about Bush, but he got Roberts and Alito spot on.
With Thomas and Scalia, that's a solid four voting block who understand the foundations of America as envisioned by the founding fathers.
Not perfect, but a damn good start.
The republic we were handed? That one was already vastly different than the one handed to our parents, and that was vastly different from the one handed to their parents. Did you know 100 years ago the most contact the vast majority of Americans had with the federal government was if they chatted with their mailman?
If Obama's African ancestors had any connection to the slave trade, as Luos their role would have been on the trading side.
Word-filter. Certain words kick the post over to human moderation: for example An@lysis contains An@l, which might mean p0rn-spam.
Hey, where's my check from the French government? After all, my ancestors were conquered and enserfed back in 1066…..
There lies the problem.
I've got a milksnake in the backyard that looks better. EGAD!
I had to Google Garofalo to see who she was. Dowd is a moron and I would have voted against Carter but I was a couple of months away from turning 18.
We need some new celebrities to worship as all knowing Gods!
If this "esteemed" group represent Obama's most loyal defenders, it's no wonder his ratings are tanking.
Carter…worst president…ever!
Dowd…a synical pencil pusher who doesn't contribute anything — she just stands on the sidelines of life and reports on what others do.
Who is Janeane Garofalo anyway…never heard of her.

Without ever reaching "satisfaction" because their mental capacity is limited.
This is the root of their hatred………..Their lack of mental capacity to achieve satisfaction!
Yeah. My relatives fled England in the late 1600's for not paying taxes. It seems you could engage and capture French ships, you just had to pay some of the bounty to the crown. Ooops.
Since my family has never had a slave in our recorded history, I think that since "reparations" have been paid, I should get one. Fair is fair. Right?
Barfalo is a PIG! Wallowing in her own mess named Maureen, Jimmy, Rosie, Whoppi, and O-Pray……
We need people like them to make the rest of us look good?
I ain't no Chippendale, but I ain't that ugly.
It's impossible to figure any of it out 150+ years after the fact. Both sides know that. No matter what type of scheme they cooked up, it would grate enough congressmen to kill it.
The idea isn't to actually pay reparations, the idea is to fling it around – just like the race card – to pander to a a self proclaimed victim group.
"Vote for me and I'll get you and your family billions of other people's money!"
But they are jokes.
That's the thing… they can't… Where as we see him as our President that happens to be black, they see him as our BLACK President…
I have said it once and I say it until I die…. I truly believe that they are running around calling us all racists because they are closet racists deflecting their OWN fears and misgivings onto everyone else… :/ But that's just me.
Roger.
Hm… the look at her makes me want to gag instead of punch something… Lord knows what I would do if I ever met that ugly person…
The greasy-haired, tattoo'd skank is hard to look at and disgusting to listen to. Jimmy Carter is an idiot and a anti-Semitic jerk and on the verge of terminal senility. Maureen Dowd is a menopausal harpy who has never met a Fascist she doesn't love. Why are these people relevant to any conversation in America? About ANYTHING?
Hey, the line forms behind me! I'm Slovak, and that's where the word "slave" comes from!
Being pro-choice is different than supporting Roe v. Wade. Can't one say that he believes in the right of a woman to choose, but also believe that Roe v. Wade is bad Constitutional law?
The traditional Christian view of no abortion under any circumstances isn't exactly a pro-Constitutional idea either…is it?
