‘jOker’: ‘Art is What You Can Get Away With’
by Andrew LeighIn 1987, Andres Serrano submerged a small plastic crucifix in a glass jar of his own urine and called it Piss Christ. Not to be outdone, Chris Ofili daubed elephant dung on a painting of the Virgin Mary.
While some narrow-minded philistines complained, the artistic establishment heaped praise (and money) on these and works like them. The National Endowment for the Arts was so impressed with Serrano’s work they granted him $15,000 courtesy of the U.S. taxpayer. For his effort, Ofili was awarded the Turner Prize, Britain’s most prestigious art award.
Other recent Turner Prize honorees include Damien Hirst, whose works feature livestock suspended in formaldehyde, and Tracy Elmin, whose nominated work was an unmade bed. The Turner Prize is named in honor of J. M. W. Turner (1775-1851), renowned as the original “painter of light” (pace Thomas Kinkade). (One of the Stuckists, a group of anti-conceptual figurative painters who demonstrate annually against the Prize, puckishly said, “The only artist who wouldn’t be in danger of winning the Turner Prize is Turner.”)
Art and Popular Culture defines “transgressive art” as: “art forms that aim to transgress; i.e., to outrage or violate basic mores and sensibilities.”
The French, naturally, have a phrase for it: “Epater la bourgeoisie,” or to shock mainstream sensibilities. Or as Andy Warhol put it, “Art is what you can get away with.”
Hirst, the formaldehyde artist, said early in his career, “I can’t wait to get into a position to make really bad art and get away with it. At the moment if I did certain things people would look at it, consider it and then say ‘f off.’ But after a while you can get away with things.”
And oh boy, did he. Hirst holds the record for the most expensive work of art by a living artist. His Lullaby Spring, a medicine cabinet filled with pills (and not even real ones with pharmacological effects), sold at auction for $19.2 million to the Emir of Qatar. And in two auction days in 2008, Hirst sold $198 million worth of, well, stuff.
The key phrase, however, is “what you can get away with.” And this is determined by the artistic establishment. Shocking the middle classes is one thing. Shocking the art establishment is quite another. And when those sensibilities largely overlap, as they do in these early, halcyon days of the Obama administration, then woe betide anyone who dares to draw outside the lines set by the media-education-government complex.
A year after 9/11, Hirst said, “The thing about 9/11 is that it’s kind of like an artwork in its own right. It was wicked, but it was devised in this way for this kind of impact. It was devised visually… You’ve got to hand it to them on some level because they’ve achieved something which nobody would have ever have thought possible, especially to a country as big as America. So on one level they kind of need congratulating, which a lot of people shy away from, which is a very dangerous thing.”
Indeed, the post-9/11 era produced a veritable flowering of transgressive political art, most of it directed at one particular individual hated by the artistic establishment: George W. Bush. When it came to Bush, to go from Warhol to Cole Porter, “anything goes.” No depiction was too grotesque.
Since most artists are highly constrained by political correctness of the leftist sort, when it came to depicting Bush, the constraints fell away, and an almost ecstatic cruelty was unleashed. Years from now, the art it produced will be an embarrassment to its creators (if it is remembered at all — never underestimate people’s ability to forget their mistakes).
Much has been made of the recent poster popping up around Los Angeles depicting President Obama as the Joker.
Earl Ofari Hutchinson, president of the Los Angeles Urban Policy Roundtable, said: “Depicting the president as demonic and a socialist goes beyond political spoofery, it is mean-spirited and dangerous.”
My own quibble with the poster isn’t the subject-matter, but that the depiction is a bit stale (the Joker is so 2008) and the caption is too on-the-nose. I would have liked a little more wit or wordplay in the caption. (Perhaps we should have a caption contest?)
Nevertheless, anybody who’s subscribed to Vanity Fair or watched The Daily Show has no standing to express outrage at the Obama Joker poster (or to object to any fatuousness). And whatever you think of the poster, its creator has more cojones than all of the anti-Bush comedians, artists and columnists put together. Because artists and other cultural figures today are more like the sheep preserved in that Hirst glass case pictured above than they care to admit.
So what follows is a refresher course on the level of respect artists held for the office of president during Bush’s tenure, a rogue’s gallery of bad taste:
Here’s the illustration (done by Drew Friedman) that Vanity Fair posted on their website, almost exactly one year before the Obama version appeared:
And here are some comments on the Vanity Fair site:
“Great stuff from the talented Friedman (as always).”
“Very good!!!”
“Brilliant and profound.”
(Unbelievable as it seems, I don’t think they were being sarcastic.)
Then there’s the ultimate online insult, so heinous it has its own law (Godwin’s). Search “Bush as Hitler” on Google images and you get more than 1.6 million results. One of many:
And remember the ever-popular “Bush as chimp” caricatures? (These were the very height of Shavian wit.) So many to choose from, here’s just one:
Speaking of “on-the-nose,” a Google image search of “Bush as devil” turns up more than 3 million hits. Here’s one:
And if a single evil metaphor isn’t enough for you, there are numerous mix-and-match combinations, such as this mash-up of Bush as Hitler and Satan:
And let’s not forget this tastefully done portrait. It first appeared as a cover for the Village Voice and then popped up on countless T-shirts, posters, and even an episode of HBO’s “True Blood”:
If you prefer a healthy dollop of racism in your mockery, you don’t have to look further than this cartoon, which oh-so-cleverly tweaks Bush’s Secretary of State:
The LA Weekly didn’t much care for the Obama poster (despite their past championing and displaying of similarly tacky anti-Bush propaganda). Their blogger commented (weirdly), “The only thing missing is a noose.” Of course, when the noose was on Sarah Palin’s (boo! hiss!) neck, they thought that was just (and I quote) “Super!”
One of the cardinal sins a leftist can commit is to “Other,” which is “the demonization and dehumanization of groups.” Postmodernists like to make much of this, blaming the West for “othering” minorities, foreigners, and Asians, among other people. (Of course, they never mention that the reverse is usually even more virulent.)
As the pictures above demonstrate, in the past eight years, what the left has done to Bush, and to Republicans in general, is to “other” them: to demonize them, to treat them like some alien entity that is less than human, undeserving of common decency.
And what the left experience, when they see the Joker posters pop up, is what psychologists call “projection” — the tearing-down process they subjected Bush to, they fear will happen to their hero. They fear that Obama’s opponents will succeed in reducing their icon to a laughingstock like Bush was (and is — for now).
To paraphrase Obama’s erstwhile spiritual advisor: The cultural establishment’s chickens have come home to roost.

see Steve Bell, cartoonist for the Manchester Guardian, for cartoons of President Bush as a monkey. Shades of Abraham Lincoln.
Great article.
I've also been told by "art" types who know this kind of stuff that art must stand and not be tampered with. No matter how much the Fairey "HOPE" murals irk you, you are not allowed to go change the "O" to a "Y" or the "H" to a "D". You can't "tag" over it. You can't even draw a slight wisp of a Hitler mustache over his mouth with a huge Marksalot! As far as I know, everyone has respected that rule, even the supposed people who yelled "KILL HIM" at Palin rallies. Art must be left alone.
I wonder if the artistic, cool and hip LA crowd will allow the Joker to stand untouched wherever it has been posted?
i wonder if barry's death care will cover the amnesia the libbies conveniently have when it comes to what they said and did to bush during his presidency?
great blog post.
but don't forget what the hag Jill Greenberg did to McCain's during an "official" photoshoot for The Atlantic.
http://www.nypost.com/seven/09142008/news/politic...
the same lefties crying about the Obama/Joker poster now thought that Jill Greenberg was oh-so-clever just less than a year ago for what she did to McCain.
i am so sick of these people.
Projection is the term and it is so patently obvious that many are missing it.
What will be great is that with all the goings on of Obambi and his cronies, a true account of what happened buring the Bush years will come to the forefront and oh my, people will actually find out that the guy wasn't so bad.
Funny how those that claim Bush was stomping all over the constitution are so gleefully doing it right now and think nothing of it. I may not always be right as a conservative, but at least I'm consistent.
For the first of your predictions, the dems have no intention of ever allowing this country to have another repub president.
For the second, there are already efforts being made to subvert/void the 22nd Amendment preventing a president from serving more than 2 terms.
Can you say 'Obama for life'?
I hope the person that created the Obama-Joker poster has more up his\\her sleeve. I hope it doesn't just stop with this one act of defiance in the face of socialism.
And if lefties get their nipples in a twist over it, BONUS!!!
Excellent point. Just look at the snitching program the White House has been encouraging people to use regarding Obamacare.
The Bush administration was demonized for wire-tapping to catch terrorists, can you imagine what the lefties would've been like if Bush asked people to inform on their neighbors for disagreeing with his policies???
careful there Andrew, you depiction of the "socialism" caption as being too squarely "on the nose" is liable to be deemed by the p.c. as vague, thinly disguised racism due to it's cruel reference to his large protuberance.
careful there Andrew, you depiction of the "socialism" caption as being too squarely "on the nose" is liable to be deemed by the p.c. police as vague, thinly disguised racism due to it's cruel reference to his large protuberance.
Great Article. The only thing missing was the tired Dick Cheney/Darth Vadar thing that they played to death. It's a shame that we all took this crap with such non chalance, and it's worse that the Bush Administration pretty much sat quietly while these cowardly socialist goons took their cheap shots and used the media to slowly gin public sentiment against Bush. All of which speaks to Brietbart's concept here, to step up and speak out.
I would love to see someone build a montage of Media & Democrats using the phrase: "George Bush's Huge Deficits" and just contrast it with the line of trillion dollar deficit projections we face under the neo-socialists.
People, people, one must remember never never make fun of Comrade! To do so is moonbat blasphemy of the highest order!
I've always thought the left acts with a swarm mentality – a large mass with no independent thinking. Now I know this to be a fact. This poster was like jabbing a stick into their hive. They play follow the leader and react as one big body ready to attack.
Anyone got a can of Raid?
No one can argue with their desire for America to never have a Republican–or conservative–president again. And I wouldn't doubt they'll try to repeal the 22nd Amendment. Still, nothing in government lasts forever. I'm with BuckwheatPicard; the parties will keep rebounding over each other.
Unless of course people pick up loads of common sense and historical understanding, in which case the Dem party would cease to exist. Sigh.
(in semi-drunken Heath Ledger voice) Do I really look like a guy with a plan? (creepy smile)
Who cares? there is a jar with a turd in it over there! Ooh look a racist! Ooo Shiney!!
politics is the ability to master the art of distraction
great payback time !!!
should add the noose and tie it behind a car with a cash for clunkers sign on it enough of obame the commuiing our cpountry the joker isn't a sttrong enough message!it's pitchfork time welcome to the civil war
Blast from the past…still fresh!
My name is Alvaro Alvillar and I recently put out a YouTube video titled "A Call to Artists" in which I ask my fellow artists to stand up against liberal politicians, the main stream media and their attempts to strip away our freedoms. Mr. Andrew Breitbart of breitbart.com and Big Hollywood picked up the story, why is talk radio and the rest of the conservative media (the people I'm trying to reach) ignoring the help and consequently, the possibilities?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vyatlyQuNbs&fe...
Apparently, conservative talk shows are unaware of the presence of anything other then self loathing, anti-American artists, at least that's been my listening experience. I'm sure a lot of artists would step up if they knew they weren't alone.
We are here and it's a pretty lonely place! We could use just a little of the time you devote to art and artists you guys don't like. Believe me, I understand why that gets all the press, but maybe you could take three minutes and watch my video and help us help you by spreading the word. We're in this together, we can make a difference. I thank you for your hard work and I am trying my best to help.
Thank you, Alvaro

That goes for conservative websites as well.
When the takeover is complete, art will mean only approved giant statues of the leader.
Great column.
I have been receiving hate mail because of my Ojoker avatar on some sites (I just report them as fishy to flag@whitehouse.gov) They say it's racist, because of the white-face? I just show them this picture http://twitpic.com/cvcws and I never hear from them again.
"I am an agent of chaos………"
replace chaos with socialism and "….now we're talkin…."
It's blackface that is considered racist, not whiteface. If someone calls you racist because your avatar has whiteface then the name-caller is mildly retarded….
To all libs, I say your president deserves respect from us… the same kind of respect you showed to our president over the last eight years.
What goes around comes around, libbies!
Now we need some Obama-Hitler posters.
Just after the election, an artist of my acquaintance performed an experiment. He submitted two T-shirt designs to Cafe Press: the figure of a chimp bursting through a bunch of bananas. One was accepted and marketed without comment, the other was rejected with the curt reply that it was "disrespectful." The difference between the two? One chimp had the face of George W. Bush and the slogan "Bye-bye Bush." The other had the face of Barack Obama and the slogan "Hello Obama." Other than that, they were identical. Same pose, same facial (smiling) expression. Nope. No double standard here folks. Move along, move along.
Got that right. I just love watching the libs get all flustered over any negativity towards their messiah. They are such thin-skinned little wussies…..
look for $15,000 a pop I'll make a statue of just about anything you want.
you tell me what you want it to look like, I'll pick the materials
done
google "obama Hitler" and you get all the same posters with Bush replaced with Obama (all hail)
the Brown Shirt flag carrying poster? Check
the vampire on the statue of liberty? check
monkey? no, that is racist
I'd prefer to see him as Stalin — or, considering the strength of his cult of personality, Kim Il-sung.
Sorry, have to disagree with you on this one. I thought the Bush/Hitler posters were wrong so I can't get behind Obama/Hitler posters. I don't ever want to be like the other side. No class.
The Obama jOker is great political satire. I have my buttons on order as I write this. Looking forward to placing one on my hat, along with my American flag pin, my Abe Lincoln, 'Friends of Abe' button and my 'Ramones' button (in memory of Johnny Ramone) Should be fun walking the streets of LA.
Excellent article Andrew. Always appreciate and enjoy reading pieces, such as this, again confirming liberals by no means have a lock on things related to 'art'. Now, is a great time for conservatives to shine. This Obama jOker poster, is a step in the right direction.
I hope we'll see much more of all kinds of work from artists with conservative/libertarian leanings.
Good for us. Better for the culture.
A third party may be necessary to overcome this current state of affairs. Sadly, third parties have historically a dismal record for two reasons:
dem's put party ahead of even themselves- party uber alles – consequences be damned.
repubs have more conscience as a rule, but when faced with 'third party', both dem's and repub's form an unholy alliance to destroy the upstart.
Even if 'third party' gains the office of the Presidency, the House and Senate are controlled by repubs or dems, and will ' cut off their noses to spite their faces' before working with 'third party president'.
Nothing gets done. Not at all a bad thing when it comes to Federal government, come to think of it.
I Agree 100 %. No one needs to be reminded that Liberals are out there making a mockery of art and politics. They get enough publicity without our help, and our complaints are falling on deaf ears. It is time to make our own art community and provide work that counters Liberal dogma as well as upholding the virtues of Liberty and limited government. No one listens to a thing Conservatives say about art because it is a foregone conclusion that we are just whining about something we don't understand.
I have said this until I am blue in the face: Conservatives have to seek out and support Conservative artists. We can't work for free any more than you can. We also can't produce good art working 2 jobs to pay the bills. I've been there and it doesn't work. Creative expression requires all of one's faculties.
You either stop complaining about art, or you do something to change it. That change takes hard work and dedication. We need wealthy Conservatives to patronize our work and our projects to take our message to a larger audience. Throughout history, wealthy people have supported and, yes, influenced the arts. Take control of the situation, or stand back. There are plenty of rich Liberals out there supporting art that is influencing your children. Why aren't you doing the same?
For more information on the Declarationist Art Movement, an effort exclusively dedicated to the support and production of Conservative and patriotic art in all genres, please follow this link: http://www.modernconservative.com/liberatchik.php
Spend some time on the site. Read my articles, my manifesto and handbook for Conservative artists. Learn about the other artists helping with the project. (I just met a man who makes gorgeous Liberty sculptures and needs financial backing to caste them in bronze.) Spread the word and join our efforts if you have a talent. This is our country too, and if we aren't willing to fight for it on all fronts, with everything we have, we have no one to blame but ourselves. Are you going to complain about it, or do something about it?
I give you about 12 minutes before one of the tolerant Obamabots tries to stick a shank in your ribs….
Dissent is now the highest form of Racism.
Good nose,……..er point!!!
Interesting that no one has addressed the poster itself. It makes no sense. Why the Joker? I saw The Dark Knight a couple of times, and it seemed to me there was a vague implication that the Joker was an anarchist, not a socialist. Politics aside, the Bush-as-Joker image at least makes sense from a liberal perspective, since liberals by and large saw Bush as an agent of senseless chaos and anarchy. Conservatives tend to look at Obama as wanting to control, to employ universal standards for everyone, which were not the motives of the Joker at all.
And who cares if a few libs raised hackles over this? They're acting no different than conservatives when Bush was president. Anyone with half-a-brain knew that the roles would reverse once a different politcal party took the White House. All this proves is that "culture warriors" on the right and left are basically losers with little time for anything but fake outrage.
Anyone attempting to f_ck with me would be making a big mistake.
Thatta boy….
They bring a knife…..you know the rest….

Caption for Ojoker poster:
Some men just want to see their country burn.
As a caption, may I suggest, "Why so socialist?"
I once tripped over a modern art display at a museum. They'd put the darn thing in the middle of the hall, ostensibly to make us think about "space." All I could think of was strangling the artist.
My caption contribution:
"I am an agent of chaos"
This just in, from WaPo…Obama/Joker is racist:

Obama jOker. Touching a nerve. Perfect.
Absolutely. The time is long overdue for the GOP and conservatives to stop being idle punching bags for the radical left bent on transforming our country. It's time to become a boxer and stop being the "heavy bag". It's time to go beyond tapping our highball glasses with our ring finger at the neighborhood soriee and shaking our heads wondering what to do. It's time to guerilla! I CELEBRATE the Obama/Joker as the first step in the ultimate *war* of ideas…it's the steady reasoned American way or the RADICAL LEFTIST Obama/Alinsky/Marx/Lennin/Castro way…our forefathers didn't fight for our freedoms for Americans to let a Kenyan thug like Obama piss it all down the toilet…

it's even more amusing when you push them into a scanners moment with facts.
That's the kind of talk I like to hear. You sound to me like something I… remember………Oh Yeah an AMERICAN.
Oh yeah, the spittle starts to fly as they foam at the mouth and then……. KAPOW!!!!
I have yet to see one posted on the street, but as the song says, "Nobody Walks In L.A." People in L.A.–where have you seen them?
Hey, kids:
Spread the word. The opposite of "Marxist" is now "racist".
Wow, that writer is completely clueless.
it's BLACKFACE that is considered racist, not the whiteface makeup of the Joker. Christ, he even critiques the poster like the creator of it wants to be accepted by the art world or something.
pathetic, but glad it's bothering hypocritical liberals…
I'm hoping to catch the next one on camera for stock footage to use in my next low budget film. Saves money on special effects.
That should be the caption under the picture!
having trouble with taking one's own medicine perhaps?
to me, the spirit of the Obama-as-Joker, as well as the intent of the conservative reaction / the conserative reaction to the left's reactions… well it all amounts to a sentiment from the right of "Well if you can't beat them, join them!"
So, welcome, people on the right! Welcome to the use of street art as propoganda.
Just remember: now that you are engaging in it, in fact EMBRACING it… better not complain next time we do it to you.
Thank you Andrew for the article, it was well written and absolutely correct in its assertions and examples. However, I think we, as Conservatives, need to stop complaining. We need to stop accepting that this is the way art is and do something about it. Bravo to the artist who had the nerve to put the Obama Joker out there. I know, from my own work, how hard it can be to stand up to the art establishment. I know also, how readily they throw out the terms racist and fascist when they find your work offensive.
I invite you to look at my work and my Conservative art project. It is time for us to stop complaining about art and provide an alternative. Some of us are out here working very hard to do so. However, we have no support from the Conservative community. Those who cry the loudest about the state of art do two things that are killing our chances to fight back successfully: 1. They accuse anyone who produces political art of being a Liberal hack, regardless of the meaning of the painting. Conservatives need to learn that art isn't always pretty, and they would agree with some of it if they would settle down long enough. 2. As much as you hunger for a change, you do nothing to support those who have the nerve to make those changes.
My final point is this. Let's stop setting up examples of Liberal hypocrisy and cruelty in the art community. They don't deserve our attention. We are merely promoting their work for them by giving it this venue. They do not consider us as a market force or a legitimate participant in the conversation. Complaining about the same bad art only backs up their points. Take a minute to learn how we can approach this from a positive perspective and support some good art that spreads a positive message or counteracts the lies and hypocrisy of the Left.

Keep spreading the word and giving encouragement. Some of us have the nerve to address the issues of Liberal hypocrisy and destruction of America, but we can't do it alone. We must have patrons and friends to get us through the exhaustion and psychological stress of standing up to Liberals. They do not appreciate or respect our rights or opinions.
"I saw The Dark Knight a couple of times, and it seemed to me there was a vague implication that the Joker was an anarchist, not a socialist"
Two things:
1) It is commonly the belief of those who oppose socialism that, despite the hopes of it's proponents, it won't work and will lead to chaos.
2) The Joker is much more of an organizer than The Dark Night has us believe. His plans are designed to corrupt Gotham and bring about the greatest degree of chaos, and in that sense he's distinct from Obama, who does not seek chaos on purpose.
However, the overwhelming evidence is that the Joker's lying when he tells Dent he's not a planner (either that or the screenwriter made a mistake). His plan to turn Dent into Two-Face was long, slow, multi-faceted, and very intricate. Look at all the details that went into the climax. He drove prisoners and average citizens into the ferries which he had rigged with explosives, he dressed hostages like captors and captors like hostages, and even had the foresight to have dogs waiting for Batman. This is not the work of a dog chasing a car.
“There is a lot of disinformation about health insurance reform out there, spanning from control of personal finances to end of life care. These rumors often travel just below the surface via chain emails or through casual conversation. Since we can’t keep track of all of them here at the White House, we’re asking for your help. If you get an email or see something on the web about health insurance reform that seems fishy, send it to flag@whitehouse.gov.”
Above is a cut and paste from http://www.whitehouse.gov/blog/Facts-Are-Stubborn...
It is a request for citizens to report "fishy" comments to the Whitehouse.
Democrats opposed the Patriot Act but want to keep track of comments opposing health care legislation.
Beware. The Establishment is Radical.
How about, "I'm an agent of CHANGE"?
Bush's critics didn't see him as a random free spirit, they saw him as controlling and intransigent. They accused him of lacking nuance, they hated how rigid he was, the fact he didn't blow with the political winds, but stuck to his decisions. They accused him of destroying our freedoms, of trying to control the country, the world, by listening in on phone conversations, etc.
Obama, on the other hand, is being exposed as a liar about his agenda. He ran as a non-partisan who will bridge the gap between the ideological divide in America. He attacked Bush for spending too much money. He promised to end the Iraq War swiftly and to close Gitmo right away. Instead, he is proving to be more Bush than Bush. (I hate to break it to you, but Gitmo isn't closing on schedule. No way, no how.)
The reason Obama is plummeting in the polls is the growing gap between his campaign promises and the reality of his governance. The joke, as they say, is on us.
Even better….
There's also a great deal of projection by the left in their strident criticisms of the protesters at congressional townhall meetings over health care reform. Because the left has become heavily funded by billionaires and hedge fund managers (check the facts at OpenSecrets.org), they accuse the protesters of being funded by deep pockets. Because many of the left's protests are highly organized and Astroturfed (e.g., ACORN), they accuse the right of doing this. Just note the desperation in their voices when they complain — they are terrified of a genuinely grassroots protest against their agenda.
I have worked with formaldehyde for years. Quite honestly i find the fumes to be a little rough. I try to avoid it nowadays. Now gluteraldehyde, that is an artistic medium.
I think it is interesting that the many on the left forget that the pendulum swings back and that someday they will be on the other side. So all this anti president art will come back and be used against them. While everyone may want to think so, the left does not have a lock on the artistic or creative.
I have 2 predictions: There will be a republican president in the future. And there will be a democrat president some time after that. Funny how that works.
Caption suggestion:
"Why so wealthy?"
Best of luck! I like your work.
Artful and on-the-money twist of the phrase.
My favorite line: "artists and other cultural figures today are more like the sheep preserved in that Hirst glass case pictured above than they care to admit."
Thank you. Please pass it on. I know everyone can't afford to collect art, but word of mouth helps too. We need to start lifting up the people who are offering an alternative, as well as tearing down the opposition. I expect to work hard, and I do, but I can't do it alone. Your support is appreciated!
Nice color, nice design. Just do your thing and the results will reflect who you are. “Turner” is rolling in his grave.

The only folks getting worked up about this are the hater/traitor neo-cons who think they got away with something and are dancing gleefully about what they've done. No one cares. Really. No one cares except the extremes on both ends. You paranoid delusional whack jobs are making fools of yourselves on a daily basis whether claiming O doesn't have a birth certifcate or that bailing out companies is socialism. You don't know the difference between Marx and Lennin much less between Lennin and Lennon. Right on Moondance. You hit the nail right on the head. Frankly these whackos are a lost cause and they have destroyed the Republican party.
The response over this joker thing is the same response you would expect from Chavez, Castro or Aquavelvajad in Iran. This administration is sounding more and more like the national socialists. Anyone notice for all the crying about Bush trampling the constitution, his administration didn't single out or even attempt to find out or monitor those who criticized him? He watched and arrested foreign terrorists. Another thing to ask the democrat folk out there, if they aren't going to do anything with the information——why collect it?
ReallY? The joker didn't have an incedibly elaborate set up to get caught by batman then escape? He didn't fool batman into going to the wrong warehouse? He didn't forment hatred of two-face against batman by lying to batman about how is girlfriend was killed(blamed the choice on batman although he lied to batman)? The joker didn't plan a job and throw the whole crew under the bus(gotta love the irony there) as the job finished?
I love it, I see a Obama 08 and a "dissent is the highest form of PATRIOTISM" bumper sticker on the same car! I wonder long before he removes the "Dissent" one since THE ONE is telling us to report dissent.
Sure the guy hates the Obama/joker poster.
It was not necessary to post this again. Furthermore, we are going to be so much meaner with our street art, so much that you'll regret that last sentence.
Cognutcase is a very slow learner for one and a liar for another. No fuss was made over Bush to the point that it made mainstream news. This is not turnaround is fair play. It is the dem side lying about racism which they have done for decades in order to get idiot nutcases like you to give the stupid type leaders more control. You are nothing but a slow-witted flake lacking the ability to have a consistent thought process. Pitty the fool. YOU. The constant fool. Better for you to not confirm your fool status quite as often as you do. We see your posts and simply wonder what kind of arse backwards moronic things is that fruitcake obamabot going to say now. And you never disappoint.
I always thought the Obama-Joker poster had just one flaw: the line at the bottom should have said "WHY SO SOCIALIST?"
The radical left and Democrat Party have what they wanted, effective control of the government of the United States of America. The problem is, their rush to socialism is being thwarted by some of the very same people they lied to and hoodwinked. Rahm wanted*conservative* Dems to grab those "Red State" borderline GOP Gongressional seats, he got 'em. Obama lied like a DOG about fiscal constraint and transparency, the sheep believed him and elected him. Now that *FUNTIME* is over, they're clearly in over their heads, their plans, lies and deceit have been exposed and it's INDEPENDENTS AND EVEN DEMOCRATS that are rejecting them! Tough crap about an "unflattering" poster you lying KENYAN OBAMA, it's going to get ALOT tougher before you get the electoral Carter-like BOOT and go about sweeping in MILLIONS of $$$$$$ as a TV shill or circus act. Now, send your GOON SQUAD after me…I dare you…screw you.
having trouble with taking one's own medicine perhaps?
to me, the spirit of the Obama-as-Joker, as well as the intent of the conservative reaction / the conserative reaction to the left's reactions… well it all amounts to a sentiment from the right of "Well if you can't beat 'em, join 'em!"
So, welcome, people on the right! Welcome to the use of street art as propoganda.
Just remember: now that you are engaging in it, in fact EMBRACING it… better not complain next time we do it to you.
The great thing about the Obama Joker is that it can have different meanings for many people. People who support Obama might take a second look at what the President is doing. Those in love with Obama will
probably get offended. The average person might be a little put off by the imagery, they probably never saw the Bush Joker poster, but can't understand the motive behind the imagery. Then you have a person like myself who is sitting back in amazement watching the mainstream media and Obamabots losing their minds over this piece of "art".
I watch as self-righteous left wing nut jobs go on the attack trying to protect their self made "lord and saviour". They sit there and scream this is unfair, that only Bush was worthy of this kind of dissent and eventually play the race card. I hate to say it, but I am just sitting back and watching Pop Culture burn and kind of feeling great about it. Why? Because pop culutre needs to die. It needs to die because it is a former shell of itself. It's like Pop Culture has a disease, a liberal cancer that once served a purpose but is now killing it's host. We need
to let it die, be born again and take it's proper place in the world of Ideals.
So thanks to the artist, whoever you are, you are a "True Patriot".
I don't know the political leanings of the artist though I think he is
at least a moderate or libertarian. What I do know is that this piece
of art is something we truly needed. The President needs to be brought
back to a little planet I like to call Earth. He is Not GOD, so sitting
on high only causes him to be further out of touch with the people he is
supposed to be leading. The presidents's ego is surpassing Oprah's and
that ain't good, dial it back a notch or two there barry. I don't
believe in anarchy but I believe in accountability and that's not
possible when your president thinks himself a king.
Is there some way to mass forward this article to WaPo, Huffpo, Dko,etc.?????? slam their mailbox……………
have a look at this image from the people's cube
http://www.thepeoplescube.com/images/Obama_in_Uri...
reminiscent of Serrano's P-ss Christ from 1987
Exactly. Except Bush actually cared for America.
Right on!
He put what this country needed before himself and his image.
Very persuasive article. Here is another one:

ah I forgot all about the hanging of Palin….the left wing sleaze bags havent seen anything yet.
she must be a piece of work what a crude trick to play on someone. .
Actuall;y I think is nose is normal…its his ears! And they made fun of Bush's ears? BO's looks bigger to me.
