I had the privilege of interviewing Rep. Gillibrand for a documentary currently in the works. Barely knew who she was at the time, but by the end of the interview, I knew she was going places. Smart, sharp, personable — and even better-looking in person. One of the more impressive congressional members I’ve ever met. The fact that she is a fiscal conservative who voted against the bailout should hearten us all.

Hear, hear! And another reason the Democratic party continues to expand its reach. Good for her.
Thank you Andrew for presenting this fine woman in the way she deserves. Not in comparison (meaning her appearance) to Sarah Palin. I too, as a heterosexual woman, appreciate an attractive femal, but without smarts or heart anyone can be downright homely.

If she is a ” conservative” Democrat, then she will be of no use to the Conservative Movement. At best, she be like the late Daniel Patrick Moynihan. She spout republican sounding tripe and vote the Liberal democrat line. Besides, she was endorsed by Chuck (I hate America) Shumer.
Pdizzle, I think you’re on to something. Do you think the Dems would agree to an even, “across the aisle,” Senatorial swap — Our John McCain for their Kirsten Gillibrand?
I see red herring all over this one. People keep touting how secretly conservative she is. Well, if that’s the case, then why is she a Democrat? OSCARFOXTANGO hit it on the head. Even if the rumors are true, she won’t be a help to us. So why is this a good thing? Just because Princess Caroline didn’t get it? (Which also smells fishy, btw. Since when did personal issues stand in the way of a Kennedy’s political career? It’s not like she parked a car in the river.)
How is appointing Gillibrand another reason the D party continues its reach? Sounds like a diction problem, among others.
Voting against the bailout is indeed the right vote BUT it doesn’t mean they are really against it. You guys have a lot to learn. They get together and count the votes on unpopular bills and make deals on them. One will vote to not bring it to the floor or some other procedural maneuver BUT still vote on the bill. Someone else will do the opposite. They make sure their bases are covered and it goes through, but with as many as possible with the ability to later SAY they opposed it.

She’s in for a hell uva dem primary fight in 2010. The NYC faction of the dem party does not like her. To “upstatie” for there persuasion.
An attractive, smart woman who is popular among both parties in her area? It’s only a matter of time before dozens of reporters will visit her town to dig up dirt and humiliate her children on national tv. Oh, wait, she’s a Demacrat? Nevermind.

Gillibrand seems to be a breath of fresh air, especially after that liar, Hillary. After Hillary ducked bullets in Bosnia, I have no use for her or her dirtbag, rapist husband, Bill. They can both end up like Ted Kennedy and die slowly.

She looks like a good choice from what I’ve read about her so far. I’ll take a fiscally conservative Democrat over a RINO any day.
I for one am thrilled with this choice and even more thrill that 1)Hillary is no longer Senator from my State and never will be again, and 2) Caroline Kennedy did not replace Hillary, This makes me think much better of Governor Patterson that he did not cave to the pressure of the Kennedy’s or the Cuomo’s. I agree with Ryukhu, I will take a conservative Democrat over a RINO any day.
She is not the least bit Conservative. I read today that she does support gay marriage and is strongly against FOMA.

1) I don’t hate Republicans. I come from a family of Republicans. The old school kind. Teddy R. and Dwight Eisenhower. Then there’s the conservative Dems in the family. My godmother? Scoop Jackson’s personal secretary for thirty years. We always put his Christmas card up front. So don’t make thinwitted assumptions based on very little knowledge. I know it’s that comes naturally. But hey. Why not try another method?
2) The idea that the Dem party is run by ‘freaky leftists’ is a wingtard fantasy every bit as stupid as suggesting the GOP is run by raving racists. In fact, Rep. (and soon to be Sen.) Gillibrand is a good example of the way the party is expanding. That also includes men like Sen. Jim Webb or Gov. Brian Schweitzer in Montana. I know it’s hard to keep up with the changing times, and yes, the old hatreds are easy to cling to. But I’d suggest letting go.
3) Texacalirose? You can stop counting now.
