Terror Pictures, Torture Pictures
by Ari DavidDeclassification of the torture memos was big news a couple of weeks ago, with the glaring omission of what terror attacks were prevented by the water boarding. The news media did not seem to care though. Instead of “moving on” they enjoyed their “back to the future” moment of wallowing in the gloried past of the Bush administration’s “atrocities.”
This week the Obama administration is going to give us another dose of the “America is evil” evidence by releasing photos and other visual evidence that shows Bush, Cheney and others allowing rogue CIA agents to do terrible things to helpless Muslims who were innocently targeted and hustled off to Guantanamo.
This has made me think of other images of atrocity that I would actually like to see to remind me of our enemy’s brutality.
On September 11th, 2001 numerous people plummeted 1200+ feet out of the world trade center because they determined that dying of an impact on concrete after falling about ¼ mile to earth at a speed of 32 feet per second squared (the speed of gravity for those of you who aren’t into physics) was preferable to burning to death in the stricken towers.
I’m not suggesting that it would be nice to see pictures of the splattered remains of Americans on the downtown New York sidewalk but it would remind American’s that the brutality suffered by our citizens that day was infinitely worse than the fate suffered by two avowed terrorists who got some water poured over their heads. I bet the pictures of the bodies on pavement would be a lot more dramatic as well than pictures of wet middle easterners. In fact, I have some pictures of a wet cat after a bath that are much more dramatic and brutal looking than the water boarding “centerfold” spread we will see this week.
Since the water boarding has been proven to prevent many more 9/11 type casualties, maybe the news media and the general public that gets their information from them would realize how silly it is to harangue our intelligence service personal and Bush administration lawyers over the issue of water boarding anymore. Having brutal pictures from 9/11 released would surely put all of this controversy in perspective.
One of the attacks that the water boarding prevented was a plot to detonate bombs in subway trains in tunnels under New York’s rivers which would have flooded the city’s underground network of subway tunnels and killed many thousands of people. Another attack was planned that involved flying a plane into the tallest building in Los Angeles with results similar to 9/11.
They say a picture is worth a thousand words. It must be true because we don’t get to see 9/11 footage on TV anymore. The mainstream media must think it’s inconveniently truthful.

This post is in deep contrast of what the media has put out. Thanks for brining it to the forefront for those of us that have read it. As painful as it is to read and remember. I appreciate reality in the age of empathy that is shown towards the inaccurate and misguided visuals much of the media displays.

Thank you. It made my heart hurt and I want to cry all over again. There are no pictures so that we DO forget that terrible. What do you think in your head and feel in your heart when you have given up hope? How much you love your wife, husband, children, girlfriend, boyfriend. To tell them you love them one more time? I forgot how I felt, and sometimes I avoid how I felt that day. I do not like it. I will never be able to understand how someone can hate you enough for this have happened.

The news media started eliminating the shots of the people jumping to their deaths almost immediately after the attack. At the time that made sense to me. I could barely catch my breath watching the horror of that. So my anger and indignation was aimed at the sight of those buildings collapsing after seeing aircraft fly into them. Some time later I realized that removing the earlier shots removed much of the horror, and eliminated the unbearable human toll from the equation. Instead of terrified human beings jumping to their deaths to avoid an even worse death, they became statistics. Every time our current administration shows the horror of a waterboarding or a caterpillaring, they should be required to show those innocent human beings tortured into committing suicide by leaping from a burning skyscraper. In other words, show the cause of the waterboarding and caterpillaring and allow people to decide who are the real barbarians. I won't watch either one. I already know.
Actually, due to major criticism and probably many FOIA (Freedom of Information Act) requests including my own, Our Dear Leader will be releasing the Air Force One photos "soon".
If we did this to a muslim nation, the world would go nuts and american lefties would be out in full force.

Ari, this is a nice post, but please don't use the term "speed of gravity." There's no such scalar. 32 feet per second sqaured is the rate of acceleration produced by gravity at the Earth's surface in vacuum (discounting air resistance). As a former member of the Iowa Parachute Team, I can attest that the human body (wearing ordinary loose-fitting clothing) will reach a terminal velocity of about 120 miles per hour after falling about 800 feet. This is called the "terminal" velocity because it won't increase as you fall farther because the upward force of wind resistance balances the downward force of weight. Terminal velocity will increase for heavier people and higher altitudes, and decrease if clothing is baggy.
I did hear about that Bev. He'll probably just release more photos of islamists with panties on their heads and claim not to be able to find the pics of the joyride. He prefers islamists go around rioting and murdering over the humiliating photos of the jihadists than making himself look like more of a schmuck than he already is with the AFO photos.
The radical author Saul Alinsky advises that if your political enemy finds an effective technique, you must claim that using that technique is unethical. The left does that all the time. When the GOP shows the WTC in an ad for two seconds, they claim we are "exploiting" it for political gain – yet, they can do the same sort of thing, with any subject, for any reason, and it's ALWAYS perfectly okay. Because, in their eyes, they are "progressives" and we are evil knuckle-draggers.
Remembering those scenes still brings tears to my eyes. I was a classroom teacher that day, and I got caught with the TV on in shock when my next class started to come in. I remember watching a man leaping frantically out of a burning window, and I remember plain as day one of my kids saying, "Cool!" He'd just walked in behind me and I hadn't noticed him.
Why would you flatter them by saying "linguini spined liberals"? I think that "warm jello-spined", or perhaps "cream of tomato soup-spined" would be decidedly more accurate.

Obama doesn't want the Air Force One photos shown because they have a negative stigma attached to them. He can't stand anything that doesn't show him in a positive light. Smearing the previous administration with whatever they can find in the closets of the White House is perfectly acceptable though, if you can't make yourself look good, make the other guy look bad, more of the tactics he learned in Chicago no doubt.
I'd like to see one of these motivated street artists do a piece at ground zero, something similar to the Sarajevo Rose, see how long they let that one stay around. If the 9/11 images make people angry or afraid, good, they should. There are people out there that want to kill you, and they don't care who you are, only who you are not. It's something we should never forget.

Every time I hear some talking head go on about the horrors of waterboarding I cannot help but think of the men,women and children who where aboard the four planes! I hear people speak of how in-humane enhanced interrogation is and that our nation is above this sort of thing. (I am not!)
Then I think to myself, is there anything at all that we have done to "Terrorists" that can even come close to the horror that those poor souls must have felt during those flights? I can't even fathom what they endured.
Then I realize that what we have done to these vermin has not been enough. They deserve endless pain and suffering! No quick death! Slow and agonizing!

Counselor, when we took Baghdad I ended up in possession of photos that were taken at the various prisons there. Having walked through,cleared, and released those found there, I can say with a clear conscience that nothing I did will ever come close to the horror of 9/11 or the depravity of what I saw in the murder rooms of Iraq. Like the World Trade Center, it was the dead and mortally wounded humanity that made me realize what true horror was. Today, the press makes sure we see only the buildings in New York and their destruction, but never the humanity. With the growing anti-semitism on the left, I wonder how long it will be before we're only allowed to see pictures of the Auschwitz facilities. On the other hand, maybe they'll continue to allow it since it serves their purpose of fighting the Nazi regime which ended nearly sixty-five years ago. Read the memo. The proof is right there. Then go look at all those pictures of the people who died on 9-11 and tell me that you would rather not waterboard a terrorist determined to commit another heinous act. As a previous employee of a major airline, I can remember the lack of sound at LAX for days after 9/11.
Then finally the chears that went out when the first aircraft landed.
I clearly remember the rumors regarding the plan to fly another aircraft into a building in LA.
As to consperacies – the only one that has yet to be proved as untrue is that the Liberal Media systematically removed the horrors of the buildings and people in them and replaced that with the pity for the terrorists.
Am I sorry that the terrorists were waterboarded. No way! That was the first bath that many of them ever had.

I find it sad that some people are bothered more by personal individual attacks like torture over mass killings. I guess it is the personal nature of water boarding over the impersonal attack that kills a few thousands. Maybe people reject the truth because they can't fathom the reality of that many people dying in a act of terrorism. To comprehend the injustice, we need to take the total of 2974 (or whatever your source may say) and start to individualize every one of them. The horrific pictures and images allow us to break the thousands down to a personal (and manageable) level. I remember the sick feeling I had that day watching the news. I also remember the follow up MSM stories of not blaming all Muslims, but I saw the images of foreign nations cheering for the deaths of the attacks. It's hard not to harbor some bad intentions to those that would be that sick. Yet today, we get a daily dose of how we are the evil Americans. How is it that they are the victims?
Yeah we know. We learned that in the 6th grade. That's obviously when you had to drop out to help your parents mow our lawns.
All the people who feel we need to start defending this country from extremists in the caves of Tora Bora and the halls of the White House and Capitol Hill should emphasize the horror of 9 /11 DAILY! I challenged a classroom of college kids to tell me how old the were the morning of September 11, 2001. Twelve, thirteen, fourteen was typical. 9 / 11/ 2001 is NOT ancient history to me. I link killing robed, scruffy bearded, rag wearing terrorists with bandeleros of AK-47 ammo draped around them as being a POSITIVE thing. These people would gladly step out of a car in Toledo, Ohio walk into a mall and kill every single American that got in their way. I don't think that is an overstatement, Obama & Co. feel like this is a "police matter" for the local constable to clean up. Political viability guides his actions, not what is best for the country.
I say take the Terrorist on a helicopter ride to as high as where the point of the spire on the WTC used to be and then dangle them a bit …and then just let them drop. Is there a way we can start a new You Tube Video? I don't know how to do it but it would be great if someone would do it and maybe post his/her email so others could mail him/her the pictures of 9/11 they have found. Any and every picture that can show the real horror so that we don't forget. If they can put out photo's of terrorists being tortured then we have the right to have our own photo's of AMERICANS being murdered by TERRORISTS! I would be happy to find some pictures and help with project. I know there's someone out there that can do this and it would cover the web and become newsworthy. Wish I knew how to do it.

Since the acceleration due to gravity on earth is 32 feet per second squared it thus would follow at the moment that an individual jumps off the cliff they would have an instantaneous speed of 32/second.
So technically his number is correct at that time of the initiation of the fall. In his article the author mentions the "Speed" of Gravity. Gravity being the constant G which is 980cm/s2 or 32ft/sec2. Thus it can be argued that what is refered to is the change in the rate of acceleration which is something someone into physics would understand. The shorthand of course in not technically correct but is generally correct enough to explain it to a laymen who may not understand the term acceleration.
You know for all the talk about Bush not getting it I wonder how it us under Gearge Bush Pakistan was able to revert to a more democratic form of government and was still helpful in our war on Terror. Bush did go into Pakistan but the operations were covert and I believe the strikes more surgical. The administration downplayed the efforts in that arena of the War on Terror.
Obama the Candidate spoke of blatantly going into Padistan where the real Terrorists were to score political points in the election. He followed this up with publicized air strikes. India was attacked shorly after he got into office in attempt to inflame the rivalry between India and Pakistan. It is possible that this was a ploy by the Terrorists to make "going" into the Taliban controlled regions much more problematic given the US and Britain are allies of India.
I find it ironic that George Bush seems to be the one to take the more diplomatic approach to this region given the strength of the enemy among the populace there.
Maybe Obama can apologize again. That's working well so far isn't it.

I went through SERE school while in a recon element in the 101ST. The things they did to us make Abu Ghraib look like fraternity pranks. This included: Water Boarding, sensory depravation(white noise, constant temperature, etc..), starvation, being buried at ground level in a flat, black wall locker through the heat of the day(s). ropes torture, sleep depravation, etc…(good times). These things are NOT torture. I can detail what torture IS if you would like to know what we observed from the sandinistas some three months later……..If you want to know what torture REALLY is…..let me know.

I almost never post here, or anywhere for that matter. But without reading the comments at all, and having read the article, I will say this: I was one of the (apparently) few people who actually saw the footage of people jumping from the buildings, in real time. It was shocking, terrifying, and grievous. It is one of the many images from that day that is stuck in my mind, although I never saw that footage again. Many of them were holding hands, and one woman I remember clearly was wearing a blue dress/suit. No words can convey the horror of that moment. I cried and sceamed my distress and frustration. And I was forever changed. I am more saddened by the superficiality of some of my fellow citizens than I am surprised. God save us…

I'm with you on this. Someone I know who was going on and on about waterboarding being torture and that Bush & Cheney were war criminals. I said, "You know what I think is torture? Watching someone realize he has only 2 choices. To be incinerated by the flames at his back or be vaporized on the sidewalk after jumping from the 96th floor. You know what else I think is torture? Sitting with someone and watching as the towers imploded, knowing they had a loved one inside. " Shut her up like a clam.

Think about how dumb liberals are for a second. First off, you can believe in water boarding for terrorists and not innocents, like I believe in drinking spirits for adults but not 5-year-olds.
Deep down, though, liberals prefer to torture babies and not terrorists because that hurts Americans more. To them, mums and dads jumping out of burning office towers are just dirty capitalist pigs.
I'm of the opinion that one of the cable news channels (FOX comes to mind) should be running a 1-hour special 3 times per day of the footage of the Towers being hit and the folks jumping from windows rather than burning to death. The special should coincide with the release of the "torture" photos from the Obama administration and then let the American people decide what's what.
The problem is that most everyone has become complacent about what happened on that fateful day because the mainstream media has seen to it that those images are not displayed.

Three guys got waterboarded out of how many detainees? I'm pretty sure they knew who those 3 guys were and could separate them from the rest of the "folks" to make sure they got special treatment. KSM wasn't just some schmuck in the wrong place at the wrong time after all.

With all do respect to see-saws and teeter-totters, when you confuse the arsonist with the fireman you have lost moral clarity. Water boarding a bad guy to save innocents is not an evil act, it's heroic. Murdering thousands of people in a brutal act is a mortal sin and the ultimate in evil. having the good in charge to the detriment of the bad is not imbalance, it's how things should be.
With the growing anti-semitism on the left, I wonder how long it will be before we're only allowed to see pictures of the Auschwitz facilities.
If they let photos of the victims of Auschwitz (…and the Gulags, and the Killing Fields) continue to circulate, then attempts to compare our treatment of unlawful combatants we've captured to how victims of Auschwitz were treated will look hopelessly stupid. (I'm looking at YOU Dick Durbin.)
Excellent observation. I do wonder how they would explain the disappearance of all holocaust photographs to their strong liberal Jewish base. Though a heavy percentage of American Jews are very liberal and support Democrats, they are very unlikely to allow that to happen. I think the MSM would quickly be hearing from their elected representatives if they acted to make the horrors of the mass extinction and degradation of millions of Jews a minor sidelight to history. That doesn't mean I don't think they might try. Couching anti-semitism in terms of anti-zionism and anti-Israel militarism has been fairly successful for them, but the holocaust is another thing entirely.
