The first round of protests against the Obama administration’s chaotic and rapid-fire expansion of government came in the form of grass-roots “tea parties,” which were predictably met with scorn by the Democrat-Media Complex (the natural coalition of the Democratic Party and the mainstream media.)
CNN’s Anderson Cooper and MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow led the charge, declaring concerned Americans “tea baggers,” an allusion to an absurd sexual fetish beneath describing in a family newspaper. This attack on hundreds of thousands of people practicing their constitutional right to protest speaks volumes not just about the hardened sociopolitical leanings of America’s journalistic elite, but about the brazenness with which they are now wielding their unprofessionalism.
Last week on the grounds of the once-venerated White House, Senate Majority Whip Richard J. Durbin, Illinois Democrat, taking his cues from his allies in the media, referred to last week’s health care town-hall protesters as “tea baggers.”
How far we have fallen.
Stepping up the rhetoric from mockery to pure hatred, and absent any evidence, Mr. Olbermann has called the president’s public protesters “worse than racists.” Political activist and comedian Janeane Garofalo colored them “racist rednecks who hate blacks.” And at the somewhat higher end of the food chain, liberal economist Paul Krugman in the New York Times wrote last week that they were motivated by “cultural and racial fear.”
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who is having a hard time these days explaining the president’s Israel policy to her Jewish constituents, blatantly lied and said that the protesters were wielding “swastikas and symbols like that.”
Supporters of the president understand what is going on. So do his detractors.
The mainstream media and the Democratic Party are working in concert to make sure that what happened to President Bush — sustained organized grass-roots protests (”mobs,” if you will), relentless media criticism and permanent opposition-party obstructionism — does not happen to their guy. Complicating matters, the media’s fate is directly tied to the president’s. Without them, Barack Obama would still be a backbencher from Illinois.
But the mockery. The recklessness. Unsupportable libel isn’t working. The tea parties and, now, the health care protests at town-hall meetings have only gotten bigger and stronger. The anti-big-government movement is pure. Its participants represent something close to what used to be considered normative in this country.

The problem with the current administration is that they cannot stand disagreemant. They cannot bear the thought of not pushing through this healthcare plan, that is why they love to lash out like this. Olberman is an idiot to begin with, all he knows how to do is spew the Liberal talking points and add his own little touch of stupidity. If they want to refer to us as racists, I say let them, if they want to call us absurd names like "tea-baggers", let them. As this article mentions, we are merely excercising our Constitutional right to say we do not want socialized medicine! I would not expect these pinheads to know anything about our Constitutional rights anyhow. I say, keep doing what you are doing folks, protesting this Healthcare "reform" is the only way to stop it. What a great sight it would be if hundreds of people showed up at town hall meetings bearing posters reading "I am Kenneth Gladney." This would be a sign of solidarity in support of a black American. I'd like to see how the left would spin that as racist and bigoted, their two favorite adjectives.
They've turned into the equivalent of the little alternative newspapers you get in each city like the Stranger in Seattle or The Reader in Omaha. Only not as entertaining.

Prior to this year, I would have never considered going to a public protest or a political dinner. I was happy being in the silent majority. But every time I seem the MSM belittle the authentic demonstrations of fellow Americans, I can't help but think I need to attend the next one to let people know they are anything but fake.

The arrogant dissmissive attitude of this Congress first towards the Tea Party Protesters and now against people speaking out against Obama Care at these Town Hall meetings is possibly the most disgusting act I've ever witnessed in the realm of politics. When you compare what this Congress and President are doing to the American Public to what Nixon did, or Clinton lying and covering up an affair, I understand those deceptions. I can accept the Iran/Contra scandal, and all the back door favors/bribes that are traded back and forth by both sides. But what Congress is doing to the American people today just astounds me. And they seem to justify it by saying well we won so deal with it. The very least they can do is to patronize them with some of the same vapid lip-service that got Obama elected. But to simply dismiss the concerns of hundreds of thousands (probably millions) of voters and paint them as racist extremists is downright appalling to me.______

Another outstanding column, Andrew….you are on a roll. I agree 100%. The only question is, when will someone have the guts (or the opportunity) to say these things to people like Cooper in person? As far as I know, he's never been forced to deal with the sexual comments on CNN, and I'd really be curious to see how he defends it. Krugman and Olberman are just douchebags and will never answer for the things they say (or more importantly, the times they said nothing because it conflicted with their ideological goals). I guess the best we can do is have outlets like this, the radio shows, and some select newspapers to give us the chance to vent.
Primer – I don't want to get cocky and jinx us, but I keep feeling like this guy so mislead so many people, that he just may be a one termer. Problem is, it's so early, anything can happen. Still, it is so encouraging to see people turn on that guy who was literally deified by m.s.m.

Our health care coverage in the US is exceptional and to turn it into a single payer system (let's not pretend it's going any other way) that takes the worst of what other countries now admit is failure and to justify that our government is going to reduce costs is infuriating. $10k toilet seats anyone? Lowering costs by denying service is our socialist government's plan.

Cooper is another matter.
He's on CNN, which is the accepted network for news. It's the news that most people think is real and valid and unbiased. Many of us know better, but the general public still believes CNN is real news.
He should be held to a higher standard because he works there. Keith and Rachel are hacks and everybody knows it.
Cooper was vulgar. As a Vanderbilt if nothing else, certainly not as a newsman, he should have known better. He could at least have the respect for his family as to not make that reference publicly.

The wheelchair act was a decent start, but he could have gotten away with so much more. Most teabaggers are so far gone into their cult of victimhood, they won't ever question the precious victim status of one of their own, no matter how ridiculous the charade. Y'all might want to, you know, actually watch the video of that "severe beating" before you all jump on the "I am Kenneth Gadney" bandwagon. The video opens with a black guy who is not Gadney — the "union thug" — on his back, surrounded by hostile teabaggers. No explanation from the teabaggers as to why they're going after a guy on the ground. But hey, he's in the union, so obviously he must be guilty, right? And the fact that a black guy is getting beaten is just gravy for a teabagger.
Gadney gets shoved down briefly by another union guy trying to get the crowd off his friend. He's not struck in any way. He immediately bounces back up. He's not touched again. He spends the rest of the video running around nimbly, declaring how he was assaulted. There's not a mark on him.
Lo and behold! The next day, he's in a wheelchair. Though sitll without a mark on him. Dang. It takes courage to fake it that brazenly.
So, if your goal is to tell the world "I am the ultimate girly-man! No human is more of pansy than I am! I flop into a wheelchair for a skinned knee! I lie big about my injuries, even though the video evidence contradicts me, because I don't care who catches me lying!", then yes, proclaiming that you're Kenneth Gadney is the thing to do.

Excellent comment, Beauxdog. I, too, have my suspicions about Mr. Gladney and his lawyer. Gladney appeared uninjured immediately after the assault (when he was on camera). Later his lawyer said he was seriously injured and would be in the hospital for up to two days, but a few hours after that, he was well enough to do a live appearance (with his lawyer) on Neil Cavuto's show. Then the next day he was suddenly in a wheelchair, supposedly too traumatized to speak! Gosh, he had no trouble speaking to Cavuto …
I don't know his actual condition, but I would urge caution in accepting Mr. Gladney's story at face value.

I've watched the YouTube clip numerous times and I'm wondering what the big deal is. Note that at the beginning there is a Union guy in a blue shirt who is on the ground first and some dude is trying to stomp on him. Then Gladney gets pulled to the ground and then…well that's it. Yes, I'm with you, the mockery is not working, but we need to make sure our presence at these meetings are calm and steady. Our knowledge on the issues and straightforward questions do way more for our cause than simply shouting and yelling everyone down. That only plays into the libs' little game. Knowledge on what is exactly in the healthcare bill and hard questions directed to the clueless politicians will continue to wake people up.
I watched the meeting this morning with Spector-where he had given 30 people cards to participate. It was so great to see that no matter how stately and intelligent he tried to act, the citizens showed him to be the arrogant and clueless idiot he is by their questions and their knowledge of what's in the bill.
