They are doing well, but keep things in perspective. Off the top of my head, Ford has about 11 % market share in Germany. Former GM subsidiary Opel had just under 10 %. All European OEMs together have less than 8% market share in the US. Volkswagen never made it here. And of course Daimler-Benz failed to turn Chrylser around and had to write off billions.

Of course, the Germans are selling mostly high-margin luxury cars so they make a lot of money. The kind of cars your liberal heroes do not want Americans to build.

Which brings us back to the unholy trinity of cost structure, corporate culture and political interference that has killed US car companies. And that is not getting better under federal management.

German traditions, not government, are responsible for the rule of law, the high quality of public administration and even the engineering. Its car companies also enjoy political clout. But other industries have gone down unnoticed and the unemployment rate has been far above the US rate since the early 1980s. Migration between Germany and the US goes mostly one way, but Germans also leave for other EU countries in large numbers. Never a good sign.

To the extent that Japan used central planning methods, it also suffered. It owes its "lost decade" to policies not unlike those of Barack Obama.

That´s your standard? Not sure which countries you mean, but they all made their people poorer. How about that? Nobody moves there. Besides, poverty kills, too. Why do you think India stagnated for 50 years?

You seem to suggest that militarism is "right wing". I suppose you are too young to remember the parades in Moscow. The last goosestepping Germans were to be found in the communist East. Ever notice that Castro wears military fatigues? Pol Pot? Mao? Colonel Chavez?

It also highlights an important principle of our First Amendment rights. You are free to believe what you will but do not let it affect your performance at your job. You can be a Grand Wizard of the KKK, but when you are punching the clock as an EMT you will show neither favoritism nor discrimination towards those you help. As said about the poster boy of the piece, Fogarty was doing an exemplary job. It has long been a bastion of professed liberal thought as found in Affirmative Action that it does not matter who or what you are, all that matters is you can do the job. Without proof that it negatively affected his performance, there really should be no grounds for action.

I found the link there for those "moral waivers" you are apparently complaining about. What is being waived can largely be classified as "youthful mistakes" and relatively minor, and last I checked one was allowed to learn from their mistakes, pay their debt to society, and move on. Since the current occupant of the White House is a confessed former(?) frequent user of illegal drugs who apparently escaped prosecution, offhand it seems rather hypocritical to complain about recruits not meeting moral standards even the Commander in Chief falls short of.
