Political Correctness is Torture
by Andrew BreitbartThis week’s Washington Times column:
Here we go again. The latest poster conservative for political-correctness-run-amok in a country careening downhill on left-wing, Democratic cruise control is Republican congresswoman Virginia Foxx.
Mrs. Foxx’s impropriety: The thought crime of arguing against “hate crime” laws by pointing out that Matthew Shepard – the tragic icon attached to the legislation – represents a salient argument against enacting them.
Mr. Shepard, the gay Wyoming teenager robbed and savagely beaten to death by drug-addled thugs in 1998, is the emotionally charged posthumous force behind the movement to pass hate crime laws. He got that way after a relentless, decade long mainstream media, Madison Avenue and Hollywood propaganda campaign to make his death a symbol of just-beneath-the-surface sadistic intolerance toward homosexuals.
Three films, a documentary, a play and songs by Melissa Etheridge, Tori Amos and Elton John have made the gay-martyr case a high truth of pop culture. The thematically related “Boys Don’t Cry” and “Brokeback Mountain” reinforced the narrative that gays like Mr. Shepard are regularly isolated for cruel and unusual attacks.
But the congresswoman is not buying the Hollywood hype. “The hate crimes bill was named for [Shepard], but it’s really a hoax that continues to be used as an excuse for passing these bills,” Mrs. Foxx said on the House floor last week. Immediately, Democrats sought out their unapologetic allies in the media to force Mrs. Foxx into a perfunctory, skin-saving apology.
“The term ‘hoax’ was a poor choice of words used in the discussion of the hate crimes bill,” she said. “Referencing these media accounts may have been a mistake, but if so, it was a mistake based on what I believed were reliable accounts.”
Even though she had the facts to make a strong case, Mrs. Foxx apologized. She realized that the PC media cabal had another sucker conservative in its cross-hairs. Yet apologies are never enough as the Democrat Media Complex trotted out Mr. Shepard’s mother, Judy, to make sure that no one else can raise an objection to the controversial legislation.
Mrs. Foxx has been “apologizing for semantics, but not her sentiment, her insensitivity or her ignorance,” Mrs. Shepard told MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow. “Everyone knew Matthew’s murder was a hate crime, but it couldn’t be prosecuted as a hate crime. We couldn’t call it a hate crime. Getting this bill passed in the House brings gay rights up to the level of equality.”
Judy Shepard like other tragic symbols Cindy Sheehan, the Jersey Widows and Max Cleland are trotted out by Democrats to make their arguments not with facts and reason but with the threat that if you disagree with them, you will be publicly shamed as a “hater.” This pathetic strategy works as Mrs. Foxx’s instant apology illustrates.

Once again, hysteria and political correctness join hands to create a special victim group. All crimes are equal, but some are more equal than others. As I said in an earlier post on the subject, "hate crime" equals "thought crime." We already have more than sufficient rules and statutes in place to determine that a particular crime contains an animus which raises the level of the crime without defining it as a completely separate crime with a completely different set of sentencing enhancements. Currently, criminal statutes require evidentiary proof that the crime contained an element which would raise the level of the crime. Define a crime as a "hate crime," and the legal presumption of innocence shifts. Kill a human being, well, let's see if its murder or manslaughter, and of what degree based on all the surrounding facts and evidence, including a particular animus toward the victim. With the new law, kill a gay human being and the crime is already half-proven simply by the status of the victim. What the law says is "killing a human being is bad," but "killing a gay person is really, really bad. It does nothing to protect gay people that isn't already on the books, but it does a great deal to create a special class of more important victims. Matthew Shepard's life would by law be worth more than the lives of any of my three children. To hell with that!
South Park on hate crimes . . .

thanks for the link.
Andy, I covered this a little in my 'Platform' post. Here's how I see it. One drug dealer or gangsta shooting another in the head is one thing. Taking one in the head because you're a fag quite another. But that should apply equally to ALL hate-inspired crimes against whites, blacks, Jews, Muslims, whatever. I think of it not as a separate crime, but as an aggravating factor that should kick punishment for a brutal murder up from life imprisonment to death. As in James Byrd's case.
With all the hate crimes running rampant, I figure now's the time for me to come out of the closet: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c8kne9Y5u3I
Now if any trolls say anything against me, I'll get a lawyer and go to town on 'em!!!
Hate crime…give me a break
The very term "Hate Crime" seems to be little ingenious…..
As contrary to my beliefs the Gay lifestyle is, what they did to that young man was simply a crime…….
It had more to do with ignorance than hate……
In the middle 1800's, why were thousands of Latter Day Saints (Mormons) burned, pillaged, raped, and ran out of their homes in Illinois and Missouri? It had nothing to do with HATE….it was all about ignorance.
Why did "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter -Day Saints" receive the brunt of the criticism for passage of PROP 8 in California? Again it had nothing to do with HATE but ignorance.
Why do I get asked really stupid questions about "How many wives do you have?" 100 years after the Church
ended Polygamy/ again its not HATE…its ignorance.
If anything needs to be enacted as law in this country, we need a Constitutional amendment against "STUPIDITY"……..
I am amazed that I am amazed that Barry O got elected then I remember the real need we have for a law against stupid people.
In the words of m. night shyamalan "I see stupid people…they don't know they are stupid".
First they will enact "hate" crimes and that will pave the way for "hate" speech laws to be enacted. The ultimate result of these special laws is not equality but rather an erosion of our liberties, to wit: the First Ammendment.
Many on the left see this as a way to control speech and language and pummel those of us on the right with it and put a stop to our right to speak freely. We have already seen Mark Steyn and others forced to "answer" to a "human rights" commission in Canada because they told the truth about radical Islam. We will soon see that here in America unless we manage to put a stop to it.
Never apologize to a liberal. They see it as a sign of weakness, get the taste of blood in their mouths and continue even more viciously to attack.
Not only does the left use threats against us, they use emotions to appeal to the general (read: uninformed) public. So not only are we fighting against public shame and the threat of being tagged a "hater", we are also fighting against "feelings" and "emotions".
My son took the SAT yesterday, and the essay question he had to answer was: What is better to use ~ reason or gut instinct? Why?
Hmmmm.
I hate hate crimes. Here's one against El Coyote, over a measly $100 –
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/dubo...
Barry ran his campaign on 'feelings' and 'emotions.' Hope and Change and all that.
And our brilliant legal mind in the White House has already announced that one of his criteria for a Supreme Court nominee is that he or she must "feel what the litigants feel," and forget about "outmoded rhetoric." Don't bother with the law, let's just feel our way into the law books. I'm quite sure by "outmoded rhetoric" he's referring to that dusty old Constitution. It's all part of what he proudly proclaimed as "re-making America."
I never believed the Matthew-Shepard-died-because-he-was-gay narrative. Why? Because in history classes we were instructed to search for primary sources and lots of them. Without a strong body of evidence, you just have a theory, and who trusts blame-the-Christian-first TV heads?
The truth is that America’s pro-drug liberal lawmakers and their enablers were a little too eager to place blame on non-killing Christians for some bizarre reason. This still raises a number of questions. But if one cares about violence, then one should focus on gay-on-gay violence which is far more common than heterosexual-on-gay violence, according to sociological studies.
You are absolutely right!
One other way to look at it is what settlers did to Native Americans. What happened to the Indians was not out of "Hate", but out of the desire to have what the Indians posessed. It was pure "stupidity" and greed on the settlers part.
When a white person beats the crap out of another white person there is obviously hate involved (that emotion is part of being a sentient being) but this is not called a hate crime. What's the difference. A crime is a crime. Everyone wants to be treated equal, but these laws make some more equal than others!
Boy oh boy, the libs sure know exactly what to do and how to say it in order to knock down the opposing party don't they. They jump on the "get 'em" bandwagon faster then you can shake a stick. They know all the tricks, all the mind games, all the just right "hype" in order to get the masses turned against someone. They really do sicken me.
When leftists demand apologies, all you have to do is declare forcefully that you'll never apologize, no matter what they demand, and then they'll quit. It really is just that simple. They may whine and gesticulate for a short while, but soon enough they'll move on to someone else: Someone easy. Foxx' mistake was equivocating in the least. If she had just said, "no way" it would be over already.
The term "hate crime" is Orwellian newspeak, ridiculous on its face.
"Because in history classes we were instructed to search for primary sources and lots of them."
Glad to hear that they still teach that down under. Here in America, we stopped teaching that a long time ago.
As an upper middle class, heterosexual Caucasian male, it is great to know that my government considers my life to be worth the least when it comes to punishing murderers.
I used to be on the fence regarding "hate crimes". I didn't really get why they were needed, but they didn't seem like a bad thing.
Then, a few years ago, a couple of white girls in Long Beach were beaten by a large group of black girls at some sort of Halloween event. Despite a lot of evidence that the girls were targeted specifically because they were white, the prosecutors chose not to charge the defendants with "hate crimes". That's when I knew the whole thing was a sham.
A few days ago at a University by my home three (Very Drunk, Go figure!) white male college students where arrested because of a verbal altercation between themselves and several other minority students. There was no physical contact between the two groups but racial slurs had been tossed by both groups and one of the white students "allegedly" was holding something that looked like a noose.
The three white students are obviously idiots to start with, but where also very drunk which added to there stupidity. At no time was anyone physically touched or harmed, yet under Illinois law these three where arrested and charged with a "Federal Hate Crime".
Sound Fair?
Suspension? Yes! Expulsion? Maybe! Hate Crime? No!
These three boys lives will be ruined if they are convicted. The only thing that got hurt was someones feelings. What they did was beyond dumb. But a hate crime?
It is this arena where BO can do far-reaching, long lasting and permanent damage. All he needs is to name a couple of activist judges on the court, and they can shape laws to reflect the newspeak. You know that two more replacements will come soon, tilting the court to the left. Yeah, a couple of well placed judges would make Acorn look like the bush leagues. It's like the ninth circuit on speed.
The label "hate crime" is such an oxymoron. I bet every woman who has ever been raped would agree that the men who attacked them hated women. Are they less deserving than a person who is attacked because they are gay? I have no problem with gay people but the whole "hate crime" thing has been completely highjacked by one specific group and hate isn't that specific. Anyone, of any gender, race, sexual orientation or religion can be a victim of hate and no victim should be prioritized above another– which is what hate crime legislation seeks to do.
I'll go you one better. It actually happened to me. While visiting one of my client businesses, I was on their selling floor when a very enraged young black female yelled "get out of my way you white motherf—er." She grabbed a heavy chrome mirror of the display counter and heaved it right at my head, splitting my eyebrow wide open. I had never seen her in my life, and had said and done nothing to bring this on. The police investigated, and reported it as a clear racially motivated crime. Our Marxist (by admission, not my opinion) District Attorney rejected it as an enhanced "hate crime" felony assault and battery. That didn't stop him from filing multiple "racial hate crime" cases during his tenure, but not a single one where the victim was white.
The police investigators were appalled at the D.A.'s decision, so they kept me updated as their investigation continued. It turned out that this sweet young thing already had two felony warrants out on her in Alameda County for nearly identical A&Bs, and now had three fugitive warrants to add to the pile. The final clincher was that I checked in with the investigator to see if she had been caught. Her reply was "Didn't the DA's office call you? They had caught her, and the DA took a reduced plea to misdemeanor assault, down from his already reduced filing for aggravated assault and battery. Under California's Victims of Violent Crimes Act (frequently referred to as "The Victim's Bill of Rights"), the DA was not legally entitled to take a plea bargain without my written consent. He hadn't even contacted me, let alone gotten my consent. If I had any doubts before, they were completely removed when I saw the wholly politically-motivated "hate crime statue" being used solely for one-sided political advantage. I filed a complaint with the State Bar. He didn't even get a public reprimand for his clear violation of the Victims of Violent Crimes Act and violation of his oath of office. Hate crimes statutes have nothing to do with hate, and everything to do with politically-correct pandering and deliberate damage to the Constitution.
Are we going to do anything legally about the hate speech against Miss California?? Maybe this Perez Hilton abomination should be charged with inciting hatred for those who speak from their heart when asked a question?
I think she was more excoriated for saying he wasn't killed because he was gay, not just her opposition to the bill. And Shepherd's mother was in the gallery when she said it, so it did sound callous, IMHO. From what I remember of the trial, It seemed pretty clear he _was_ singled out because he was gay, but all I really remember is that the murderers really came off as sadistic morons. But Foxx probably _ensured_ the passage of the bill by speaking against it and making the news cycle. And she needn't have bothered with that mealy-mouthed apology, it didn't fool anybody, so why bother? It's funny–I think it's somewhat ironic that hate crime laws are passing at a point when society has _almost_ evolved past needing them. They were more needed decades ago when crimes against certain groups _were_ prosecuted with far less zeal than those against the mainstream population.
Of course, if the roles had been reversed and you had randomly hit her with a mirror while yelling "get outta my way you black motherf—er", we would have all seen you on the news.
Andy, you're so deep in the closet you could see Narnia.
The Christian-Newsom Murder was hideous and yet it was NOT ruled a Hate Crime, nor had it received much coverage in the news. Read what happened and tell me what you think. Imagine the races reversed.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murder_of_Channon_Ch...
Race and hate crimes only work one way, that's why dawglover. Only whites can be racist, only heteros can commit hate crimes against homos, etc. It only goes one way. I actually hate the word "minority" It is such an insulting term. I also despise hyphenated American designations. Why must someone be African American, or Chinese American? If you are a citizen, you are just American. And if you are not legally a citizen, then you aren't an immigrant, you are an illegal alien. Sorry, no other cutesy terms. I am sick of them. I am sick of all the PC, everyone who doesn't toe the progressive line is labeled a racist, misogynist, ageist, homophobe, etc., etc. I am actually just a p'od American who is tired of being painted as intolerant by people who don't know me.
I am just as sick of it! When my son came home to me one day with a project on what his nationality and culture was, I looked at him and said your nationality and culture is American. I said we will do the project about being American and if your teacher has a problem with it, politely ask to leave the room and call me and I will deal with her.
Nonsense every bit of it. It makes me so irate that people want to come here yet separate themselves and demand special treatment. Don't scream about equal rights and then expect special rights!!
If you murder someone (outside of war or self-defense), it's a crime no matter what the reason. You have violated one of the most basic rights in the Constitution against another human being, depriving them of life which keeps them from liberty and the pursuit of happiness (there's a reason they are listed in that order). The act of murder involves hate to some degree no matter who the victim is.
Hate crime legislation actually takes away equal rights because now one particular murder is more important than another one. I couldn't give a rat's rear if Matt Shepard was gay. I only care because his right to life was taken away and the cretins who murdered him deserved what they got.
The other ridiculous thing about this mentality is so many of those very same people have been serving raw tripe over the need to "understand" why criminals are motivated to commit crimes, to take into account their background and reasoning , the special circumstances that led them to commit criminal acts, the injustices they have to endure in life, anon, anon.
Why do we allow such people to hold sway over us, and give them positions of authority for making these sorts of decisions?
Typical thuglicans that have never been bullied so can't know what a real hate crime is.
Shame! Shame! Shame!
Hatecrimes are double plus un-good, any you just need to accept it.
By the way Winston Smith, what is 2 plus 2?
excuse me but the prefered term is "Repuglickin's" please follw the style book.
That said, i think you may have a point. There has never been a conservative made fun of because of their weight, or height, or a scar or their faith. Because republicans are the beautiful people. We don't get acne, or gas. We have never had anyone who wasn't perfect so we have no idea what it is like to be bullied.
But you have opened my eyes. Thank you sir, for helping me see that other people have problems. I have been so myopic, i never noticed.
I renounce myself as a thoughtcriminal. I have conspired to overturn CNN. I did not vote for President Presto Chango. I encourage all OTHer thought criminals to see THE error of their ways and to ACCEPT the love and prosperity offered BY the party. FIGHT NO MORE IN VAIN!! Join the collective. It is better here!!!!!!!1111111111 one, one, one, eleven, eleventy
Folks here might find this Onion-style satire of the hate crimes concept amusing:
http://optoons.blogspot.com/2009/05/perpetrators-...
But kill a baby and it's perfectly legal, fine and probably a good thing because it will decrease global warming.
At a guess I'd say BPT went to school before I did (or he went to a lot better school (private?) then I did).
By the time I went to public school in Australia they hardly taught us History at all. My knowledge of Australian history came from year 12 Politics elective. And what world history I've have has been picked up adhoc from triva shows, surfing wikipedia at work, alt-history fiction and buying actual history books to find out the details of stuff that really interested me.
To prove how bad Australians are at their own history when our former Prime Minister tried to push the teaching of Australian history at schools, the news programs 'tested' the average Australian on the street. One of the questions was, 'Who was Australia's first Prime Minister?', nearly everyone had no idea, none of my friends knew though I did thanks to my politics elective. The answer is Edmund Barton. If you ask most Australians, they don't know the second PM either (Deakin), it's not because we are not patriotic, it's because we are not taught it at school.
"We don't get acne, or gas."
We get gas…it's just that where a dirty lefty might allow all that greenhouse methane out into the atmosphere unchecked, we're environmentally conscious enough to do something about it. Like set it on fire.
On one campout I personally flash-roasted a spotted owl, albeit unintentionally. Scared me so much I knocked a whole pan of snail darters into the coals.
Did you give reperations?
I made extra tartar sauce…
That's why I love South Park.
Hate crimes are a joke. By their logic, if I'm a white supremacist and I beat up a white guy, is that a love crime? And should I get a lesser charge because of it?
A crime is a crime, I should be judged the same way as anyone else, regardless of my race, religion, sexual orientation etc, etc.
Why do you think that is Scott, Is it possible that the movers and shakers of Australia are ashamed of their history? Why would that be?, I ask because I'm curious only.
Awww, are you jealous? So sorry you grew up to be the ugly redheaded stepchild but what does that have to do with republicans.
Speaking on behalf of redheaded stepchildren everywhere, KMFA. Don't blame this putz on us.
We'll put up with the pointing and laughing and name-calling like we always have, but try pushing all your own turds into our pool and your ass is grass the second you're not standing in direct sunlight.
That is what I mean. Leave GINGERs alone!! (Cue crying Britney Spears fan) Why do you Repuglickin's always bully people!!
I am now a full convert to the collective. and will take their side no matter how much doublethink it requires.
Shepherds mother was in the gallery because leftists enjoy trotting out certain samples of victims in order to silence opposition. The mom, hopefully an adult, should have been prepared for some tough language. Surely she can take care of herself. After more research, especially from ABC special research on the subject ABC reporter concluded that it was most likely a botched robbery than anything else. And it was not clear that he was singled out because he was gay as much as they used him being gay as a ploy of getting him alone. If Shepherd were a druggie they could have lured him out with the idea that they had free drugs waiting for him in their car. The gay part was the lure. Many robbers use lures. The MSM believes that there must be one conclusion in any event and if you disagree you are just hateful. Leftists truly suffer from mental disorders.
If there is 'hate crime' legislation then one must believe there are 'like', and perhaps even 'love' crimes being committed… so,, if you beat up someone 'cause you kinda like them do you catch a break?
just asking…
My apologies to ugly redheaded stepchildren everywhere.
Oh, you are apologizing?
Well than all is forgiven, because obviously you have good intentions.
Welcome to the collective brother, wasn't resistance futile?
Hanlon's Razor: Never attribute to malice what can be more adequately explained by ignorance.
(Corollary: Sufficiently advanced stupidity, however, is often indistinguishable from malice.)
Please explain to us the level of surprise you felt when this all played out. I don't say this to be hostile, but at this point in our country's existence, I see very little to suggest that we wil survive as the polity once known as "Th United states of America."
Sir, I got one for you. In early 06 I attended a support the troops rally. After leaving the rally, I was accosted by THREE liberal counter protesters. They thought it would be a good idea to attack a man in a wheelchair because he wore a uniform and supported a war. I ended up getting 23 stitches in my head and having to replace my chair. The state victims fund intially refused my claim for assistance and the local ADA refused to press charges. I was told then I was not the victim of a hate crime even though there were witnesses. Last year however I was able to have charges filed and they were ultimately jailed.
Now I am told by our elected tormentors (Debbie Wasserman-Schultz) that vets are not real victims and are not deserving of ANY protection under the law. Your experience is not unusual at all. Crime is crime. To place any group above another, at least in my interpretation of the Constitution (granted I am far from a legal genius) is a violation of equal protections. This mess is only going to get worse.

Domestic Violence? He only did it because he cares so much…….
I was bullied in elementary school by a gang of black kids. Can blacks commit hate crimes against whites or in your highly esteemed estimate, does it only count if it is whites bullying blacks? I went to a theater years later and witnessed a gang of blacks beating the crap out of a white guy because he asked the theater management to get the blacks to stop being so noisy during a movie. Years later I witnessed a gang of latinos attack whites. In Chicago I witnessed a black guy attacking a white businessman. Also in Chicago I witnessed a union worker attack a non union worker.
That is absolutely despicable. I hope they get a chance experience the full range of horrors that our prison system can offer.
Jesse Dirkhiser, that was pretty hateful. Too bad they didn't make any movies about that.
"Oh, you are apologizing?
Well than all is forgiven, because obviously you have good intentions.
Welcome to the collective brother, wasn't resistance futile? "
It WAS and that would be sister.
I actually felt bad for all redheads after I said that, even the good looking ones which are hard to come by.
I agree, when one apologizes it insinuates that one was wrong in the first place. If a person truly believes in what they're saying then they should NEVER apologize. The only thing is though, the lefties are relentless and if someone on the opposing side DOESN'T apologize then they can kiss their job goodbye. It's all about power plays and the republican party should take a lesson from it and LEARN.
Ok i was wrong about brother, but you still seem determined to slap around the gingers. Those who you deemed less attrractive are actually "Differently attractive"
I assumed you were a male because these types of comments generally come from males.
That said and in all seriousness. some redheads are hot!!
and my brain hurts from tying to think of phraseology that will offend nobody. I learned from an old man that "you can't offend me. I have to choose to be offended" why is this such a hard concept? This PC garbage wears me out.
SHAME!
Making fun of hate crimes is wrong! It isn't funny!
But, ooh I "get" the hateful humor… it's the same thing why hate crimes are so right in the first place. Because intolerant bullies hate people that are different.
SHAME!!!
Absolutely despicable. I read the news articles from wikipedia also and for that NOT to be labeled a hate crime is beyond me. It sure as HELLo wasn't a love crime that's for sure. Sick freakin' subhumans who should have never been allowed to enter the world. I haven't seen their pictures but I can just imagine what they look like, the same as all smug looking, young, think they're tough, "African Americans". They need to die the exact same way.
We're rare, but the army is growing every day.
Soon we'll take back the planet from the blondes. A 10,000-to-1 numerical advantage on their side should just about make it a fair match.
(And by "fair," I mean sufficiently overwhelming that I won't feel bad about resorting to tactics like throwing a shiny object off a cliff and watching the first three divisions of the blonde hordes chase it.)
*snerk* I do tend to slap around the "Gingers" but that's only because they annoy me.
I prefer to think of them as Nancies.
I find it hard to believe that the libs are actually as sensitive as they try and portray themselves to be. Sheesh, you'd think they'd never had to deal with real life before.
The thing that I hate more then anything is phoneyness(is that a word) if not then it is now.
People just need to be more sincere and not come across with their phony sensitivity everytime someone from the other side says something.
I have a redheaded sister who has been deemed "hot".
It's rare to find a male redhead who is hot though, trust me, I know.
Ok
throwing around "SHAME!!" won't work on me, because I'm not a wimp. Try it on someone who crys in public.

I wasn't trying to be funny I was pointing out absurdity by being absurd. Hate crime laws legislate the punishment of a person's thoughts. As horrible as some people are their thoughts are their own. That is what freedom is. People will do things that we don't like.

We have laws that punish crimes. Why do we enhance them based on a person's thoughts? All this does is make some people more equal than others. Using this logic you are a worse murderer depending on who the victim was. This Orwellian junk has no place in a free society. The fact that so many people like you would accept it is sad.
Mr. Price, I would have prefered 5 minutes with them alone. And with the plea agreement they will most likely serve only about 18 months if that much. At this point I'm just happy I live in a state that has very loose concealed carry laws. Even before this latest round of surgery, I spent most of my time in a chair. Granted, I fly a regimental and a custom made OIF flag from it that makes me a target. I just find it dispicable that while libs want to "protect" minorities they refuse to stand up for the folks that make their crap possible.

P.S. If you are not aware of my posts since I left the hospital, thank you for keeping up my spirits while I was there.
lol..now THAT was funny apotheosis. Good thing I'm blonde by bottle only.
Is there such a thing as "hateful humor"? I thought it was all in good fun?
I'm afraid to say what I think about hate crimes.
I wish I could say I was surprised. It disgusts me to say I'm not. If I were surprised at all, it would only be because I expect these things in San Francisco, but had hopes that things were better elsewhere. Apparently, they're not. Your innate good sense about the Constitution is correct, even if our lawmakers don't recognize it. In my original post (which disappeared into the moderation black hole), I specifically mentioned that "hate crimes" directly violate the 14th Amendment guarantee of equal protection of the laws. In the minds of the politically-correct, some lives are more worthy of protection than others. Good call. GET WELL.
It wasn't a very high level of surprise, since this is San Francisco, but as I mention below, it's truly frightening to find out it's not unusual in other parts of the country either. I worry too about the survival of the formerly free republic, particularly after our Socialist in Chief has announced he is going to "re-make America."
The whole concept of the "hate crime' is absrud. If I am killed by a group of miscreants, am I any less dead if they didn't "hate" me or if I am on some list that qualifies me as deserving in some way?
This is simply illogical. If someone intentionally murder another, I think we can assume hate and dispense with the variable justice.
Oh, you can't hurt someone's feelings. That is a captial crime in the land of the liberals.
The "hate crime" debate reminds me of my nomination for the single dumbest thing ever uttered by an American politician.
When he signed New York state's "hate crime" legislation, "Republican" Governor George Pataki mused that if there had been a hate-crime law in 1930s Germany, perhaps the Holocaust could have been avoided.
All too true. You may yet see me on the news. "Local resident forms first San Francisco Committee of Vigilance in over a hundred years. First hanging of public officials scheduled for next week."
Outmoded rhetric. I am sure he doesn;t even know the correct use of rhetoric. Perhaps a basic lesson in the law in order for the law school instructor (part time).
Gays are special. Babies are "expendable things." What the hell has gone wrong with our country?
I always wonder how one can differentiate a "hate crime" from an "ordinary" crime. Isn't murder a "hate crime" regardless of the races of who kills who?
The public will follow the line of attack. Foxx should not have apologized but attacked the attackers as heterophobic and silly, haters themselves of anyone who disagrees with their PC viewpoint. Never, never apologize. Stop being afraid to offend and afraid of a fight. These people have no principles and no argument other than (as I've said elsewhere) other than personal attacks and sucker punches.
Wow, Oldsoldier what a story brother those vicious ba$tards. This country is being driven to the brink by this kind of horse crap. These are the kind of stories that make my Scottish temper boil. You to Hawk, I don’t know you but just damn, what made that idiot throw something at you, hate? WTF!
Relatives of those affected by legislation are routinely seated in the gallery when it's up for discussion, whether it's Megans's law or any other specific targeted bill. I think it's a stretch to say only liberals do it. I'm sure the mom has heard much worse over the years; doesn't make what Foxx said any less tactless in my view. And just like the mom, Foxx is an adult who should have been prepared for the response she'd get due to the words she chose.
I know the meaning of the word, but I'm sure he doesn't, and he won't be inviting me to instruct him on it any time soon. For a Harvard Law Review editor and con law instructor, he seems to throw around a plethora of words he doesn't actually understand. In fact, his definition of con law may mean something quite different from what I mean by it.
I don't hate gays personally but I do hate what their lifestyle has done to America. Is that a hate crime?
Nic – pull up your big girl panties and then get a clue. A crime is a crime.
This country is being driven to the brink by a small group of people that whining has become an industry, and I’m referring to liberals. This country had better get it’s $hit together, and fast before there’s a real implosion. The Balkanization of this country is as dangerous as it is stupid, and hate crimes are more dumb $hit being shoved down our throats whose aim is to divide and conquer. Be careful what you wish for, you just might get it!
I agree completely. Our soldiers are the very people who make these freedoms possible. And while the left has learned that they need to say good things "about the troops", they really have no respect or gratitude for what you guys have done and continue to do.
I have long believed that we do not take good enough care of our military, both while they are in the service and after discharge. I wish Republicans would adopt this issue.
I hope your operation(s) went well and I wish you the best. I am glad to hear we helped keep your spirits up. Take care!
Liberals use victims to promote bad law, I guess is the best way of putting it. And the way they parade the victims around and when they choose to pull them out is again, in order to support bad law and to promote the wrong understanding about an issue.
It is ok to use examples, as long as the examples are truthful and appropriate. Again, it gets back to the ability of leftists to call good evil and evil good. They get things 180 degrees backwards. They parade victims that were never victims of what the leftist is trying to sell to the public.
Leftists create victims that were not victims and or use real victims to promote an evil cause. And if you choose to be played for a useful idiot, then you suffer what might happen.
A real victim does not mind if there is opposition since they stand for what is right. A false victim will get all huffy but will not have rightness to back the up with. That is usually when the MSM gets involved in trying to help make the sale of a product that is not worth buying.
So, called hate crime laws are just the beginning. These type of laws begin to add weight to crimes for WHY they are carried out above and beyond what the action is. So, the court begins to look at why did person a beat person b to death with a hammer. Personally, I think that prosecution for murder is enough. It's very redundant to prosecute someone for a murder plus a hate crime.. I mean come on. But, these laws will evolve into punishing people for Thinking bad thoughts about other people. Liberty includes the right of idiots to hate whoever they want.. (Left wing hate of bush as an example) as long as they don't manifest this hate as violence. When violence does occur, the perpetrator should be held accountable for his/her actions not what they were thinking at the time the actions were carried out.
We're at the middle of the end of this nation "of laws" Thank god we'll have "empathetic" judges though.. Oh god help up.
Really? I think that making fun of "hate crimes" is HILARIOUS because the term is so subjective and ridiculous. As Ann Coulter said, is any murder a crime done out of love? "Hate crime" is yet another attempt by the liberals to assuage guilt for the myth of an epidemic of crimes against homosexuals.
It isn't that I'm intolerant, N.P., it's that I'm tired of LIARS and PERVERTS defining how MY country should be run and having to pander to feel-good, amoral, IMBECILES in the process.
Final word: Homosexuality is a perversion straight from the pit of hell.
lash-roasted a spotted owl
So what did it taste like, ap? I figured that could be a new delicacy dish…
Why was it 'beyond dumb'?
Why were there any charges at all? Isn't there a First Amendment? If not, can we try that old saw 'sticks and stones…'? Why broke a law? You're not allowed to insult someone in Illinois?
I was told by a gay journalist… that's a sex crime.
Wha'ever.
*MissQuinn*
this is why I choose to not discriminate and just hate everyone equally.
When do the tickets go on sale?
I googled Ms. Wasserman and what I saw was "For over fifteen years, Debbie Wasserman Schultz has dedicated her public life to working on behalf of the people of Southern Florida."
I guess the spin did not stop there.
A look at her site says a lot. Under the Title of Services for You she lists various items in alphabetical order. Amazingly enough Tours of Congress is 1st on the list. Just change the order so that Congress shows up 1st. Also last on her list is Veterans. That says it all in a NUT shell.
Do you want that in chronological or alphbetical order?
"Typical thuglicans"
Me feelings is hurted so bad. *sniff*
SHAME on you for spewing so much hate!
This PC nonsense is out of control. I'm concerned about congress silencing talk radio via the fairness doctrine. Here's where I got some really good information: http://www.freedomtolisten.org
As far as I know, brutally murdering someone is already against the law, and it's not like people are killing gays and getting slaps on the wrists. The animals that killed Matthew Shepherd got 2 consecutive life sentences without the possibility of parole. What would they get if they were charged with a hate crime? Three life terms? Or maybe we should reduce the penalties for murders that aren't motivated by bigotry.
A lot of this goes to what they were "allegedly" holding, and the truth to that situation.
Regardless, though – being drunk and yelling racially charged slurs is not an intelligent thing to do.
Claim "First Amendment" all you want but with a right comes responsibility.
It is simply not responsible to put yourself in a situation where there might be questions about your motives, or a need to have autorities invlolved because of actions you've taken.
Therefore, "beyond Dumb" is a fitting description.
Quit crying, you frigging sissy!
