Week #2 Thanks
by Andrew BreitbartThe big tent that is Big Hollywood got much larger this week. I can’t thank the contributors and the readers enough for the amazing work. I live for refreshing the comments on each post because of the quality of the thought going into all aspects of the site.
Commenters, please keep writing in your own names (and linking to your personal web sites/blogs), if you can. It has helped to keep up the quality.
The media highlight of the week was Rush Limbaugh reading and riffing on Andrew Klavan’s, “Why We Fight.” The most poignant and righteous post was clearly Charles Winecoff’s, “The Awakening of a Dumb (Gay) American.” The comments tell us everything we know about the truth about tolerance on the right. And the lie about tolerance on the left. I am extraordinarily proud to call Charles a patriot, an ally and a friend.
I am still cleaning up my britches from multiple readings of Iowahawk’s introductory post, “Movies Are Your Best Entertainment Value.” Prolific Gutfeld and Orson are the site’s Omar Sharif and Erma Bombeck.
I have to spend time with my family so I can’t thank every new contributor that came in this week, but suffice to say I am grateful and I think people are slowly getting the idea that we aren’t alone in Hollywood with our crazy non-leftist ideas.
And liberals, you will be thanking us later when our ideas get to play out in the marketplace of ideas. Trust me. It’s way too boring when everyone agrees with each other. Start giving us a little more slack, you’ll see.
Next week brings some surprises and some new names from Hollywood and the political establishment. I promise you won’t want to miss Dirk Benedict’s forthcoming piece describing his battles in the 1970s trying to keep Starbuck, his beloved Battlestar Gallactica character, a masculine rogue. He also takes on the latest feminized incarnation of the show. Dirk has a humorous and deeply analytical mind. As you will see, Dirk was fighting political correctness in Hollywood well before most of us.
And I can’t wait to see what Pat Dollard has in mind as he makes his return to Hollywood in his Big Hollywood debut.
Only had to delete one off-topic post. And sorry to readers (and the contributor) that I wasn’t as watchful as I should. We need to stay on topic.
Here are the basic guidelines:
1) Non-Hollywood voices can offer content that relates to either pop culture (film, television, music, celebrity, etc) or the intersection of pop culture and politics (e.g. Sean Penn travels to Venezuela to kiss Hugo Chavez’s ring.)
2) Hollywood voices can offer their thoughts on the above… AND talk about the political issues of the day as they see fit. If Hollywood lefties feel so free talking about their ideas, those that differ should have the opportunity to publicly express themselves — on a soapbox and in their work.
Off to take Charlie to a friend’s birthday party at the Eco-Station. Check their politicized promo. Yes, Virginia, liberals are judgmental. Until we have our kids extravaganza (Milton and Rose Friedman Nerf Land!), the left is going to be beating us using our free market ideals against us.
Yes, friends, we have our work cut out for us. Onward to week three.

I love the new BSG and think Katee Sackoff is great. But nobody beats the original Starbuck. I can't wait to read Benedict's interview.
Erattum: Third sentence:
doesn'tMore Gutfeld, please!
Can’t wait to read the Battlestar Galactica commentary. The new show is one of the best series on TV!
If I stay on topic, does that mean I’m not banned?
Great site Andrew!
Ever thought about contacting Joseph C. Philips from the Cosby Show. He’s a conservative like us, and talks movies and politics on his website:
http://www.josephcphillips.com/
And, he talk like a white boy. (Go to his site, and you’ll get it)
Mr. Breitbart,
From the heart of the Midwest -
Thank you! Thank you! Thank You!
Andrew – let me add to the others my thanks for this site. It is now only 1 of the 4 sites I must stop by everyday – Drudge, Seraphic Secret, Hugh Hewitt’s blog and now Big Hollywood. I am now addicted to BH.
As I mentioned to Robert Avrech, it is interesting to read the commentaries by those working in the industry…
I too spend almost much time here as facebook and NRO. Man I admire you coming out of the closet as a conservative guy Andrew…and others. Thank you for giving peoples thoughts wings.
Thank you. Since I can’t find any liberal-minded people who will have civil discussions in person, maybe it will happen on this site. I’m curious to see if all liberals ultimately end with name calling and profanity when they don’t have any remaining facts. Now that would be a revolution!
Is TEHSTUPID a plant to get our blood pressure to rise?
You are providing another great service with Big Hollywood. Thanks!
My silly nom-de-plume is in response to liberals calling all conservatives cryptofascists. I decided to embrace it.
I followed John Nolte from Dirty Harry’s place and am overjoyed to find this big tent: Iowahawk, Guttfield, Avrech, etc., some of the blogs I already visit. Also, names I am not familiar with, actors, writers and spectators. I think this website will become home to a lot of us voiceless conservatives out here who want to change the culture – because it is quite obviously leftist. At the least, it’s a wonderful meeting place where we can come and commiserate.
Good job, Andrew B. and John N.
Andrew,
Congratulations!
I have been reading your site since you started it. Keep up the good work!
I agree with Gordon – more Miller. He’s fantastic and one dose of him per week on O’Reilly isn’t enough:)

Addendum: Back from the Eco-Station. Birthday party for a five-year old, but room was leaning four-sies. The guide started by telling the kids that the exotic animals in the tour have not been purchased and are saved from harmful situations and not bought at pet stores (the insinuation was that is a very bad thing.) Then we went on to the pollution portion of the tour describing about bad pollution is and how it hurts/kills nice animals (I like the model of the Hyperion Water Treatment plant most!) The heartbreak of the tour was the description of the big cats being declawed and that it’s the equivalent (and the 20-something guide used her hand to explain this) of taking a scissors and cutting off the top digits on your fingers and that it causes the cats to feel like they are walking on glass. Now, I was heartbroken by this, of course. But I didn’t even sense my son was — because he’s four and the entire guided tour was crafted to scare the bejeebers out of older kids, not post-toddlers still pissing and crapping in their pants.
Is there any safe haven any more where kids aren’t being indoctrinated in the correct political sensibilities? Was there something so wrong with fun for the sake of fun? Perhaps we’re too highly attuned to all this and we’re making too much of it? Perhaps. But I think not.
Anyway, wanted to thank a few more people I left out. Andy Levy delivered the goods faster than Federal Express when he posted, “If I Wrote For The Huffington Post – Give Geese A Chance.” Hysterically funny and too true. I used to go to HuffPo to see if the Bush conspiracy theory of the day would be hatched for every tragedy. But I don’t any more. Because we have Levy here to do it for us.
Doug Tennapel’s “Real Tolerance Training: Christian = ‘Intolerant’” taught the HuffPo crowd a lesson on what it really means to be enlightened. Tolerance is more than saying that you are.
How about a one or two hour daily news program on network t.v. somewhere? And with none of this Fox fair and balanced baloney. Conservative all the way!
Thanks again for the site Andrew. Ive told all the guys at the office about it so I know you’ve got at least two more regular readers this week.
Keep up the great work. We’ve needed this for too long.
Juke
Mr. Breitbart,
Thank you for putting up the site. Quality writing, sharp thinking and a nice ability of the writers to laugh at themselves…only, of course, after laughing at the follies and foibles of Hwood. Andrew Klavan, brilliant. Jude, on the road to fearlessness, and Gary Graham’s One Pissed Off Dude said it all.
…about that 5 year old’s bday party, whatever happened to pin the tail on the donkey, musical chairs and just running amok with other small fry making happy noise? Tried and true. Must we always be trying teach them a lesson? Meh.
So far, so good with the website, and this coming week’s inaugural events should provide everyone with enough fodder for a month or so worth of posts on the Hollywood/media leftward embrace.
(Also, I think the site should start a poll on which celebrity will be the first one to drop the f-bomb, s-bomb, mf-bomb or any other type of bomb on the audience during the pre-inaugural event HBO is broadcasting Sunday night, and which will be available to non-HBO subscribers. You know they aren’t going to be able to contain themselves from one last blast of Bush Derangement Syndrome.)
Andrew,
I’m taking a break from watching my wife clean the kitchen floor just to pat you on the back for this site. Funny how a new mop can make a woman feel so good.
This is the funnest place for me to frequent on the net right now. The contributors are excellent!
Andrew, I hope Dirk is a regular contributor. The A-Team remains my favorite show. All those guys worked so well together, even when the plots got a bit canned.
It is good to be here. Thanks for having us.
Lola: I’m a Pat Dollard fan, too.
Felix: I saw Apaloosa. I thought it was going to be a movie about a horse, but it was just a dog. Sorry.
OT: I just saw Doubt. In the credits was a position titled “greenman.” What the heck is that? I haven’t seen it before. Is it the person who ensures the commissary uses biodegradable paper plates? Please advise.
God bless you, Andrew Breitbart!
Right after the election, I told a neighbor, who happens to be a liberal democrat in the entertainment industry, that there was bound to be a serious backlash from conservatives. We have had enough of the hate and the vile intolerance from the left, the Christian-bashing and epithets like “Nazi” and “Fascist” and “Hater”. Another conservative acquaintance in the business told me something was in the works, and obviously this site is part of that. It’s just the beginning. Keep it up. We are “OUT” now in Hollywood, like it or not.
Uhm, Andrew, if you think the comments prove the tolerance of one side and the intolerance of the other?
You’re not paying attention. And yes, you’re right. Tolerance *is* more than saying you are. So put down the pom-poms and dare to criticize your own once in a great while.
They won’t leave you. Honest.
Thx, Scottds. My initial thought was sooo reactionary. I hope none of the itinerant BH trolls doesn’t report back to Waxulon-6, Lord High Admiral of the Kremulakian Earth Invaders and suggest that he propose legislation to require the other kind of “greenman” with full staffing be present on all sets.
I’m just a lowly, pro bono studio teacher in my spare time who caters to Indies’ & starving film students’ productions, but I would audit any section 101’s here because movies are a mother to me.
And look what just blew in from the heath! I’m going to try to ignore it.
I can’t tell you how thrilled I am that you put this up. I’ve been visiting several times a day, since I’m afraid I’m going to miss something. Yikes. I just subscribed to the RSS feed, so I won’t. I’m loving the commenters, too, not just the posters.
Dirk Benedict? I have a friend that will be ecstatic about the chance to ask about the A-Team movie. When are going to get Gary Sinise to do an article?
Andrew – on your Eco-Station tour I have been thinking – wouldn’t it be great just to be the the spoiler and challenge some of these nitwits making crazy assertions (like the big cats being de-clawed and comparing it to having our upper fingers cut with scissors?
Years ago I took a trip to Kenya – to several of the game preserves. I learned there that the average urbanite knows next to nothing about wildlife and even worse, exhibits no common sense.
I could give you dozens of examples from Africa to Alaska but in short I believe most city people think all animals are as harmless as Bambi or their family dog or cat.
Whether it was the woman at the Masi Maura preserve – having been warned to stay in her tent until daybreak (the Cape Buffalo would wander in and around the camp during the night) – she ignored the warnings, walked out for a midnight stroll and was found the next morning gored by a buffalo (incidentally considered the most dangerous animal in Africa).
Or how about the family along the road to Denali National Park (Alaska) who upon seeing a moose and her calf, stop the car and rush up to take pictures. The tragedy of this would be had the mother rightfully killed one or more of these people Fish and Game would most likely have to kill the moose.
I suppose I am on a bit of a rant but I have seen my fill of stupid people where wildlife is concerned.
Hi Mrs. Healy, this probably isn’t the best place to be writing personal notes of thanks, but I was just checking in here and saw your comment. I would be missing a great opportunity not to tell you how thankful I am that you raised such a fine warrior as your son.
A hearty “Thank You” to you, Andrew, for bringing together the conservative side of Hollywood. This is one of my “must read” blogs for humor and news (mainly in that order). Keep up the good work!
Masturbate, HARLEY, masturbate.
Natalie Healy:
I am very grateful for your son. I am grateful for BH and its ilk. If we don’t preserve a country that is worth fighting for, your son’s progeny will no longer fend for us. We will be sunk, lost, defeated. The Hollywood left struts its stuff and assumes that they will be ever protected by our warrior men. They forget that our brave troops fight to preserve Mom and apple pie. God bless you. I hope to read more from you here.
There's a new book that came out 2 months ago you should check out:
Hollywood Faith
Holiness, Prosperity, and Ambition in a Los Angeles Church
In-depth look from a sociologist about Christians working in the Hollywood industry today.
I love this new site. Waiting for a comedy show for conservatives, you know, one where all the actors bash/impersonate OTHER left actors like Tina Fey, Alex Baldwin, etc. Oh, just think of the endless jokes. SO MUCH MATERIAL!! Keep up the great work.
It is WE who should be thanking YOU, Mr. Breitbart. This site is as refreshing as an “Irish Spring” shower on a hot day.
Mr. Breitbart, thanks to you for this site, and your contributors for some famtastic opening salvoes.
For far too long, Hollywood has been free to be Hollyweird, with no one calling them on it.
No longer.
Thanks for helping to turn the tide.
Mrs Healy – your comments brought tears to my eyes. Your son and those who died with him are American heroes!
Andrew – thank you for bringing us BH. What a breath of fresh air. Living in one of the most liberal cities in America, Seattle, I need to know there are other conservatives out there! These days I thought I was the only one left!!!
Natalie Healy-
Thank You, a million times over, thank you. God Bless You and all of our military families.
I had been wondering what happened to the “Lone Survivor” movie. I looked it up on imdb and couldn’t find any info on it. Do you know if they are started production any time soon?
On the kid brainwashing thing–
My 7-year old niece came home and told me that the turtles are being killed because there is too much light from people and they can’t find their way back to their nest (or out of it, or some such thing)
I asked her what we should do about it.
She said “We should all just kill ourselves”. Nice, huh?
Thanks for creating this site, Mr. Breitbart! It’s now a must-read for me every day. Keep up the good work!
Again, with the imposter, this time at 8:46 pm. Too cowardly to post with their own name/I.D., and too stupid to spell ‘masturbate.’
No surprise there, I guess.
HARLEY
It seems as if the individual who continues to post using your name/ID is not going to stop.
Might I recommend, as Andrew continues to suggest, using your full name as many here do. It may help in the long run.
I agree, whoever is posting using your name is nothing but a coward.
I hope you can get it worked out.
Sorry for your trouble and my little ‘dig’ @ 10:08
Thanks, Jimmy. Problem is, they could post using my full name too.
THanks Andrew, for this website – it’s like finding an oasis in a desert!
This is such a wonderful site that I enjoy immensely
Thank you for giving us Conservatives in LaLa land a place to go!
Your site is the best one!
