Wash. Times: A Million Stories To Tell

Big Hollywood is not a “celebrity” gabfest or a gossip outpost – it is a continuous politics and culture posting board for those who think something has gone drastically wrong and that Hollywood should return to its patriotic roots.
Big Hollywood’s modest objective: to change the entertainment industry. To make Hollywood something we can believe in – again. In order to give millions of Americans hope.
Until conservatives, libertarians and Republicans – who will be the lion’s share of Big Hollywood’s contributors – recognize that (pop) culture is the big prize and that politics is secondary, there will be no victory in this important battle.

I am very excited about this site. As a conservative middle class American I have been angered by the loud voice that liberal Hollywood seems to have and as if that was not enough the liberal media just seems to eat it all up. I feel like I have no voice. It seems pointless to write to my elected representatives because they don’t seem to hear or listen. Now maybe with the power of the “other” Hollywood speaking out we too will have a voice!!!

A great, long-overdue common-sense idea.
If you know any conservative screenwriters looking to write a script for a biopic along the lines of “Amadeus”, or “Malcolm X” a brand new bio of Booker T. Washington, “Up From History” (by Robert J. Norrell, pub: Harvard Univ. Press) deserves a good look.
There’s way more to Booker T’s story than his rise ‘Up From Slavery” to found Tuskegee. That’s when things get interesting, but that part of his story has been minimized, downplayed, distorted and demonized by liberal intellectuals. There’s intrigue, power, betrayal, violence, riots, court cases, honor, integrity and much much more to this country’s ‘other great American named Washington’.

I’m loving this site. There are a million stories to tell, but Hollywood doesn’t seem very interested in that. They seem most content in clobbering every landscape, with a ham-fist and without artistry.
I’d love to love the movies again, would love to see some soul and some original thinking brought back. The audience is here!

The left ginned up so much enthusiasm in the pop culture to elect Mr. Obama that I was beginning to see the conservative movement as an old has been out of ideas out of energy and out of the loop. It is the winning of the culture wars that will predict the success of conservative values. Thank you for bringing some new energy into this important discussion.
The colloquial term “movies” refers to the old “moving picture” films of generations past.
However, I feel movies are about story telling and emotion and “connecting” with people. Therefore, I like to say that if I’m not “moved” by a movie, then it wasn’t very good. I don’t care if it moves me to happiness, sadness, anger, anxiety, tears, rage, respect, appreciation, being humbled, etc… something, ANYTHING… just don’t exist as celluloid bubblegum that I pay 12 bucks to chew on for 90 minutes.
All that said, I’d love to be moved by a movie again, as it’s been so long. Thanks Mr. Breitbart for launching this site. Maybe some of the angry liberal power-players in Hollywood will take note, “take a pill” and realize there are likely many good stories out there that have not yet been told (and which oddly enough, don’t bash Bush, Iraq, American Servicemembers, “republicans” or religion in general). And if all else fails, maybe you could tell them I’m ready and willing to part with my 12 bucks for a good story, but not ’til then.

I can’t tell you how my heart sings with joy over the news that you guys are finally coming to the aid of Americans who long for conservative minded entertainment and providers!!! For too long and at the demise of our country, the liberal junk of the media and entertainment industry has had a forefront in shaping young Americans…it’s time to bring some balance back and a huge reality check.

I look forward to a cohort of pundits, “cultural critics,” and show-biz self-promoters, whose every political opinion and prediction of the past eight years has been completely discredited, campaigning for more movies like the religio-snuff-porn Passion of the Christ and the dumb-by-numbers An American Carol!
And yes, by all means: create, for us, “a Hollywood we can believe in.” Because as long as you believe that that phrase isn’t idiotic on its face and artistically doomed to lead to simplistic, brain-dead propagandistic movies bordering (on both sides of the border) on the demagogic, then it isn’t!

Maybe in the near future I will have something to watch. There are so many Hollywood actors that I can not watch and it is really starting to cut into my entertainment hours. I can’t help myself. Hollywood rubs my face in it and then expects me to come back and watch more? I look forward to a continuing stable of good, pro USA, honest, No environmental guilt movies coming soon.
It’s about time someone led the way for us conservatives to not be ashamed about our opinions about our culture. I agree that as Hollywood goes, so does much of our culture, especially our kids, so it makes sense to have thoughtlful, valid, and entertaining conservative input into our culture. For years now I have literally boycotted Hollywood. I refuse to see any film with Sean Penn and about a dozen others, I refuse to listen to the simpering and ultimately uneducated clap-trap coming out of Hollywood or the Main Stream Media. I am so far beyond sick and tired of what’s being spewed and forced down the throats of average Americans! It seems that most people don’t want to think for themselves, or educate themselves about the truth of whats being done, and the Media is taking advantage of it, using it to further an agenda. Hollywood and the Main Stream Media are appealing to the WORST of Humanity, instead of the best. I am sick of it. THANK YOU for doing something about it!
There are fools like Lennox spewing forth idiotic statements right out of Hamas talking points; SOMEONE has to point out the truth that thousands of Rockets have been shot at Israeli children for years! The subtle message being that Israeli children don’t matter. It’s that subtle misinformation, that lack of reciprocal response, the utterly lacking balance that sickens me, sickens society, and ultimately kills the best in us all.

Sadly, the genesis of this project is based on the soundly rejected false premise that only consevatives are Patriotic. This black and white thinking is at the core of the collective conservative failure as most people know that everything in this world comes in shades and tones of gray. Andrew, you have made someone who grew up next door to Hollywood way back in the 60’s to 80’s, and felt like the lone conservative in a sea of Silverlake liberals, very happy. The movies for years have been embarassingly predicatable, unendingly immoral, uncomfortable for me to watch with my three almost grown kids. And the studios pay these creators ridiculous amounts of money to produce inferior forms of ‘entertainment.’ Thank God for online movie rentals, where I can find the classic films..my daughter is at Film School, and I’m praying she will be able to pursue a career in the movie business despite her being a solid Christian conservative. Your site is such a boost for our movie-loving family! Thank you so, so much! We’ll spread the word!

I’m in the public education—more like propaganda!—system and, for the past ten years, have kept my conservative views strictly private. I used to be very involved in the public square, debating the lefties: as I used facts and they used only their feelings of superiority, I did very well—so well, that I was usually not invited back! Then I’d go to school and teach: no negative repercussions.
Now, all the public boards of education (sic) have “equity” (read “favouritism”) policies, wherein my philosophy has been redefined as intolerant or hate speech. I’ve withdrawn from the public square. If I hadn’t, I’d have been hauled in for re-education, been relocated to a less desirable position, or even have lost my job. My union? Fully in the lefty camp. (In the 2004 election, where teachers and students at my school felt free to openly diss Bush [as they do our Conservative Prime Minister]—I disallowed that in my class—I wore my Bush-Cheney button inside my jacket! Lefty Canada is very anti-American: a little problem now that they revere the big BO.)
As conservatives are definitely being bullied by the left, who control virtually all of our cultural institutions, your site is a welcome light in the gathering gloom. (Canada’s even worse than the US. Check out our Human Rights [sic] Commissions, aka kangaroo courts.)

This is wonderful! I am a Conservative who LOVES movies!! So imagine the troublesome time I’ve had with most of Hollywood, most of my life.
It is difficult to separate an actor’s good or great performance from their idiotic or frankly ridiculous political views. Sean Penn and Alec Baldwin are outstanding actors whose performances are lost when they overshadow their professional lives with their personal views.

I read your Wash Times article and I hope you also keep in check the television tenant of Liberal Hollywood. Every plot, every new show, every villain has a distinct Anti-American, Anti-Business, Anti-Military, Anti-Religion agenda. If a crime is committed, you can almost always guarantee that it was white-collar greed, war-weary vets, torture induced false confessions, bad priest — and if there’s any introduction of an oil company character…YA KNOW THEY DID IT!

Thanks Andrew. My name is Marc. I’ve been a cameraman in Hollyweird for 36 years. It’s nice to have a place where I can finally confess…I am a Conservative.
I appreciate your efforts and wish you success in acheiving you modest goals. I believe however, that Gods plans for us probably don’t include an America being the great nation it once was. Along the way I hope that some of your commentators will try and win a few souls for Christ as thats really all that matters in the long run and in the short for that matter.
There is no better sight than that of the pendulum swinging back where it belongs. I feel bad that my kids had to be sheilded from most of Hollywood for a generation, but I’m optimistic my grandchildren won’t.
Finally! Help has arrived! Maybe one day again, we will be able to go to the movies without feeling like we have to shower at the end.
I have avoided movies and TV like the plague for years now, with one or two exceptions (NCIS, Narnia, Bruce Willis). The left-leaning dictatorship in Hollywood had managed to create a melt-down as severe as the nation’s financial crisis, and it looks like it will take the conservative cavalry to bail them out. I am not a conservatuve (I am a Centrist), but I have always wondered why Libertarians have never answered the call of Ayn Rand and made a version of “The Fountainhead” of their own. It seems like putting together the financing and buying the rights and putting out a pure message of laissez-faire capitalism — which is what Fountainhead is — is a moral imperative for any true follower of the free market. Last I heard, Angelina Jolie was interested in making the film and you can be sure that she won’t make it the way you guys want it done.
Thank you for bringing this site. I have long been a fan of the Hollywood of years gone by. I am hoping this brings “Real Hope” of a resurgence in decency to the product that Hollywood should be producing. I have refused to support the current Liberal crop of airhead actors that don’t live in the real world and try to regurgitate what has been spoon fed to them by the 5th columnists in this country.

I read about your website on Lucianne.com and am simply thrilled you have started this movement! Just the other day I was telling my friend that it is so sad that there will be nothing from this time period like beautifully written music or outstanding movies for other generations to experience. This was brought on by hearing an old Nat King Cole song that moved me to tears. My parents played his music when I was a small child and it is more than disturbing that there was nothing like this in our culture now. As other posters have said, I haven’t been to the movies in many years and wondered why good, conservative movies have not been produced. You know people are just craving well written, entertaining movies that don’t scream anti-American garbage. It looks like many of us feel the same. We can all do this together. Wonderful idea and I’m looking forward to watching the progress. I used to be one of those people always checking out the latest Hollywood gossip. Then 9/11 happened and it transformed me in so many ways. My heroes are our troops, firefighters and police officers. I don’t hang on the words of celebrities, but it is refreshing to hear conservatives in Hollywood speak out for conservative values.
I do believe it’s important to fight back against leftism and if doing it through popular culture helps conservatives, then I’m down with the fight. I too would like to see conservatives in Hollywood stand up for their beliefs and not be afraid of blacklisting. If they start making more films like Saving Private Ryan and The Dark Knight, I might actually starting going to the cinema again.
I believe this website will open the eyes of Hollywood!

The moral and uplifting scripts. Scripts that ignite the American ideals of honor and pride of everything American.
Movie stars were classy – but, it doesn’t help nowadays that the sites like TMZ hound the stars during their “private” times.
There should be a law on the books to prevent those vultures from shooting the pictures/video of the stars off the set. Movie premieres are acceptable, but not when they are at the gas station or running to a 7-11 for milk at 3:00am.
They need to keep the mystic of Hollywood private and not expose to the public every moment of the stars’ lives!

Thanks for starting this site. I have just sat through a lecture on the wonderfulness of the movie “Milk” which I was forced to see to endure the lecture. When and why, in God’s name, did Hollywood cease to become an entertainment venue and become the purveyer of social and political messages? I like to go to movies but not to be beat over the head with casual homosexual sex portrayed, men kissing each other (open mouthed). Harvey Milk may have had his 15 minutes of fame but this is ridiculous.
Give me a light hearted comedy any time. And what about the musicals we used to be able to see? None of that stuff anymore.

For many years now, whether the issue be the intellectual corruption of the public school system, or the near ideological monoculture of Hollywood and arts generally, I’ve been concerned that attempting to move the culture toward conservative/libertarian principles through institutional politics was fighting an uphill battle precisely because most of the insitutions of our culture; those insitutions that frame, create, interpret and disseminate information have come to be controlled and directed, throughthe now infamous “long march through the insitutions” by the Left. No matter where one looks: the mainstream print and electronic media, Hollywood, Television production, the music industry, most popular magazines, and especially the woman’s magazines; public education, higher education, the foundations etc., one finds cultural and political leftism as, as Mark Styne has mentioned, the default mode of the culture. This has I think created a situation, that conservatives are going to have to stop deluding themselves regarding, that a critical majority of the population is liberal. Now, I don’t mean that this majority is consciously left wing, or necessarily consciously committed to leftist principles in a well thought out intellectual sense. I do think that most people have simply accepted, as I did to an extent as a child, the general leftist template through whcih the world and all events and phenomena in it are explained. I also think a lot of people are operationally liberal in their private lives because of the ideological justifications they have absorbed from public education, the media, and Hollywood films.
I’ve also long believed that it is high past time conservatives/libertarians step up to the plate,so to speak, and begin creating, nurturing,and supporting their own counter-institutions, in film, TV, the arts, and education. Why? Because at this point I really don’t think most of these insistuions, as they are, can be reformed, and certainly not through the next election, or the election after that. Waiting for the MSM to become intellectually heterodox, even modestly so, is a fool’s errand, and continuing to crticize and harp from the outside looking in only emboldens the in-group clique mentality that holds most of these internal cultures together.
They are not going to change, including those who popoulate Hollywood, who appear to be happy making many films primarily for themselves that bomb among the general population, so long as they are ideologically pure.

Just the other day I told my family we should not go to any more movies of Hollywood liberals – such as Matt Damon, but just wait for the videos.
How about having some sort of LOGO on movies made by non-libs – some sort of indication to us that it is “the good guys” making the movies. That way we’ll know we won’t be facing anti-American propaganda in the films.

I’ve lived overseas in five different countries on three different continents for a total of eleven years and have a clue about the rest of the world.
So many people from those countries form their opinions of America based on the Hollywood liberal machine’s dismal portrayal of our country, especially their portrayal (betrayal IMHO) of members of our armed forces, intelligence community, business sector, and so many other groups.
The real damage Hollywood has done to our national security in the last few decades will be known only when future historians measure the reality of our country and the world against liberal Hollywood’s distortions.
I think I can say with a high degree of confidence, however, that the damage of their uninformed distortions will be judged to have been considerable.
Future historians will note those who used their celebrity to speak poorly about our country from a broad base of ignorance. I believe they will be incredulous at the members of the liberal Hollywood machines’ apparent lack of knowledge of the simplest elements of our country and government. It is as though they slept through virtually every high school lesson in history and civics. I hope I live to see it start to happen. Maybe this blog is the start of that trend. I sincerely hope so.
We desperately need balance and people who will stand up for our country and its real values without dissing it at every opportunity.
A huge thank you to the actors and actresses who are willing to stand up and be counted.
My promise: I will patronize any movies you make and will buy the DVDs of them as well. You have my gratitude and support.

Andrew, some time ago I interviewed the talented actor Ed Ames on my radio show. He shared with us that conservative Hollywood was about to “come out of the closet”. As you probably are aware, Ed is a staunch conservative and one of the brave few who were willing to publicly take a stand (along with Jon Voigt).
“Big Hollywood” is a necessary adjunct to the growing conservative movement in Tinseltown. Going forward it will be a voice for our side.
Congratulations! Look to be included in next week’s Surfin’ Safari at World Net Daily. Heck, you might even be the lead…

I’ve often had to literally tell people to “shut up” on set(s) to disuade them from bashing President Bush, our nation, etc.
Honestly, I am quiet surprised it took as long as it did for me to be “outed” as a Republican… I think me having told someone I drove Jon Voight during the McCain campaign did it… and honest to God, from that point on, my gigs have shrunken to a near stagnant state.
But ya know, I’d rather be right (or Right, if you will) than popular…

Hi – Great News – How can we get some movies made about a David Horowitz or a Michael Savage. People who have moved from a leftist background to a Conservative view. The movie itself would be an expose on the deceipt and hypocrasy of the left. I hope it gets made.

I am a proud ‘Republitard’. Thanks for all the nice notes. Have had a whirlwind day and will be a regular poster here. Just finished BBC Radio where the guy accused me of being a ‘blacklister’ for exposing ‘blacklisters’ and bullies. And then the genius said the industry is run by corporations therefore making the industry conservative. Thank God, they’re the smart media. Made me pine for the days when I listened to NPR thinking I was enlightened simply for tuning in.

One thing the Obama campaign showed is that they know how to use pop culture. It is time to hit them back using the same media.

Just heard your interview with the BBC World Service on the anti-American nonsense coming out of Hollywood. “The Siege” is a particularly pathetic example of the genre, with (the real) Twin Towers standing in the immediate pre-9/11 NYC while we get sermons about how Islam is a religion of peace and that’s all, the political dimension of it the work of a few bad eggs (and even they are suffering Palestinians, sob, sob). Good example for you to discuss perhaps? Anyhow right on!

I believe when young people figure out that they have been force fed 1930s style progressive socialism, with all its sacrifice, low expectations, and fawning adoration of “Leaders”, their backlash will send will send these rococo manipulators scurrying; dumbfounded at the impertinence. To suggest that we have representatives and not leaders will be more than their collectivist, lowest common denominator minds can handle. Then, and only then, will the 60s be truly over; and once again, it will be OK to say,
“God bless the USA”.

Thank you so much for taking what I imagine to be a huge risk. It is nice to see men and women stand up for voices that are scarcely heard and often squelched by an environment of intolerance. I look forward to visiting the site often and getting back to the movies! BTW – judging from some of the comments left on items about Big Hollywood (sites like defamer), it looks as though Big Hollywood might be the Sarah Palin of the film industry. Some comments completely missed the point of the site much like your BBC interview. You have a supporter and a daily reader in Virginia.

A fool’s errand, but if it distracts you from being annoying in other fora, so much the better.
Hate to break it to you: Artists are often forced to take chances. They’re naturally predisposed toward antiestablishmentarian sentiments. Many popular artists either engage in “behaviors” that Republicans and “conservatives” tut-tut about in the public square, or are closely aligned with those that do.
Putting limits on personal expression is bad for business; it makes guys like Sean Penn or even Ashton Kutcher sound reasonable by comparison. Stances in “defense” of marriage? Anti-choice jeremiads? Lionizing “small town values” while demonizing those of “Hollywood and San Francisco”? It’s like the right has repeatedly pissed itself while wearing dark trousers: it gives you a good, warm feeling for a short while, but others can’t see it–and in a short while, you start to stink.
Good luck telling the entertainment biz how to do its job. Coming off the biggest box office year ever (without much help from An American Carol, alas), I’m sure movie studios are eagerly awaiting your help.

You may not TRULY understand how important it is to people living OUTSIDE the state of California to believe that not everyone in that state, and in that shiny city, are libtards. This is an extraordinarily useful thing you have done, and has long-term importance. The lines between leaders and celebrities have blurred over the years—too many people take Oprah Winfrey’s voting recommendation for granted and without question: weird or not, Hollywood has serious responsibility for how we view our own country and what paths we choose to take in the future. To know that conservatism and all of its values exist in Hollywood is breathtaking.
Thank you SO MUCH for launching this. And I hope that Hollywood will get the message that many of us out here crave entertainment that does NOT cater to the left—it would be great to be able to watch films again.

The fundamental flaw in the Conservative Movement’s attempt to criticize or infiltrate Hollywood is that simply put, commitment to being a “professional” artist, writer etc means a “liberal” (free) mind to begin with. It demands risk, curiosity and the desire to think outside of given constraints. That IS the American Spirit. People QUESTION authority, look for ways to improve on society, the Conservative mindset is identified with an unquestioning obedience to authority figures NO MATTER WHAT..as evidenced by all the revisionists who will try to spin the Bush Administration as “successful”.
Being a conservative does NOT mean following like a Drone, thats what Liberals are for ! I would guess that C. L. (see above) would think that the Bush Administration was a total failure ! Most Far-Left Loons do argue this Point !

Your certitude about us should baffle me but it doesn’t. The unquestioning attitudes so many liberals have about anything conservative smacks of preconceived notions literally hard-wired in your neurons.
One of the fundamental differences between libs and cons is that conservatives are unwilling to chuck what’s currently working well just to experience “the latest new, trendy thing” without true critical examination and testing.
Having a “free mind,” as you describe below does not exclude having a mind that is disciplined which is something that distinguishes most conservatives from liberals.
Even then, when something new appears to be worth adopting, we will do so only while we run it in tandem with the associated elements to be replaced in our current system, much as IT professionals do when they convert from an older operating system or application to a new one. They are unwilling to go whole hog into the new system without a fail-safe backup still running successfully when bugs in the new system emerge, which they always do despite rigorous testing beforehand.
Simply put, we hold down the fort to which you can retreat after running off half-cocked to experience something new that turns out to be fatally flawed or inhospitable to some uncomfortable degree.
We provide the adult supervision while you all go out and play.
Be glad that we don’t raise the fort’s drawbridge after you sally forth in your routinely fevered stampedes.
Does this sound a little like how the liberal machine in Congress charged headlong into making housing available for everyone by chucking tested and proven credit qualification criteria for getting a mortgage?
