ONE YEAR GONE: President George W. Bush Answered the Calling of Our Time
by Adam BaldwinPresident George W. Bush:
On the one-year anniversary of President George W. Bush leaving office, let us recall his words spoken in the National Cathedral, September 14, 2001 (please take a moment to watch the video):
–
“This world He created is of moral design. Grief and tragedy and hatred are only for a time. Goodness, remembrance and love have no end, and the Lord of life holds all who die and all who mourn.
It is said that adversity introduces us to ourselves.
This is true of a nation as well…
America is a nation full of good fortune, with so much to be grateful for, but we are not spared from suffering. In every generation, the world has produced enemies of human freedom. They have attacked America because we are freedom’s home and defender, and the commitment of our fathers is now the calling of our time.”
America had just suffered the horror of the evil terrorist attack on September 11, 2001. While our shocked nation mourned and scrambled for clarity in its aftermath, President Bush stood tall.
He represented to our nation and the world that America’s beacon of Liberty and hope would recover and steadfastly endure this barbaric attack against civilization.
Obviously, no man could have expected such enormous adversity so soon in his young presidency.
Yet, this good man, by the Lord’s grace, met the gravest of challenges, persevered and succeeded far beyond the subversive expectations of America’s enemies and craven-wordsmith critics – described by Edmund Burke as, “the little shrivelled, meagre, hopping, though loud and troublesome insects of the hour.”
![R2RTX_090404_061315J0841_05215[1] R2RTX_090404_061315J0841_05215[1]](/wp-includes/images/blank.gif)
President Bush effectively thwarted America’s enemies both foreign and domestic for the remainder of his two culturally intolerant terms in office. (Insects be damned).
For his honorable service, for his dedication and strength in leadership, for his goodness and decency as a man, our nation owes him a debt of gratitude that it can never repay.
In time, and with the benefit of “the distance of history”, objective chroniclers will no doubt cement President Bush’s collected record as Commander-in Chief as truly one of the greatest, albeit (as are all) imperfect, achievements in leadership and dignity that mankind has ever witnessed.
Thank you for your service Mr. President. Thank you for your responsible vigilance on America’s watchtower of Liberty and Freedom. Thank you for answering the calling of our time.
You are a great American individual to whom tens of millions of your fellow citizens will long extend their own goodness, grateful remembrance and love. You are indeed truly missed.
May God continue to bless you, and your beautiful family.
And may God continue to bless the United States of America.

Amen for voicing what I've been thinking for the past year!
A beautifully written piece. Naturally, I'm posting it to FaceBook this wonderful, wet AM.
A man, who rose and served when he was needed most. This will never be forgotten.
well, now that Obama has been given the BIG TIME metaphorical smackdown…
Perhaps we can discuss, rationally, the strengths of the Bush Presidency as Mr Baldwin has so eloquently.
After a tough start- and of course the brutal finish- his period of six years of world peace (yes, through strength)
and unparalleled economic growth which lifted millions out of poverty was a sight to behold.
For those six years, and for the goodness in the man's heart-
Thanks…
Very nice Adam!
Well done Adam.
"In time, and with the benefit of “the distance of history”, objective chroniclers will no doubt cement President Bush’s collected record as Commander-in Chief as truly one of the greatest, albeit (as are all) imperfect, achievements in leadership and dignity that mankind has ever witnessed"-
I completely agree
You can question some of his decisions, but you can't question the man's heart or his love of our country. I think it would be cool to have a beer or 2 with him….
Barack Obama could never HOPE to be the man George W Bush is.
No matter what anyone says, Bush could give a speech as if he was talking from his heart. Most politicians you felt were simply reading othr peoples words, like a certain current president, but Bush always talked as if he helped to write the words he was speaking. I wish I have the chance to meet him in my lifetime.
While we remember the greatness of GWB..let us also remember those that did everything in their power and last dollar to destroy, undermine, slander, distort, and sabotage his efforts and presidency like no other in American history….and they did it with the highest of vitrolic hatred and disrespect. They are now running the country…but not for long….lest we forget…
I think only by the grace of God and his love for the country was he able to endure such nastiness spewed about him. Thanks Adam for your heartfelt tribute.
“This world He created is of moral design. Grief and tragedy and hatred are only for a time. Goodness, remembrance and love have no end…"
Thanks for posting this. I didn't remember that line or even that speech in particular, and that is a really great statement, especially for the time.
God, I do so miss W. Anyone notice he did his duty as best he could, unlike the whiner in chief?
George W. Bush…Man….
Our answer to Islamic Radicalism is still on the come; but President Bush did the most he could do to fight back on our behalf – there is much more to be done, if we decide not to do it, the deaths of our children will be our responsibility. Come hell or high water these people will pay.
And like Cowboy said on BigGov. "Then a week ago, after being abused by the current Obama Administration, when asked to serve again, George Bush said yes. Thar takes an exceptional man."
Only a person of strong moral fortitude could take the beating of the last year, stay quite as a mouse then turn around and serve again when asked to by the vary person slamming him.
These images should be brought before Americans every day. Every instance of terrorism against our citizens should be replayed until a majority of American people finally understand who the real enemy is and that we need to unite against them.
Whatever mistakes he made, and I think they were many, George W. Bush was the man for the hour. I believe that God put him in place to bring this nation through one of its darkest hours.
Main difference between Bush and Obama:
Bush: a man
Obama: an adolescent
I think that people should remember that George H. W. Bush was a one-term president and that the public's views of him became more favorable not long after he was out of office. I personally suspect that at least part of the reason why George W. Bush was elected in 2000 was that some voters regretted not giving his father a second term. It looks very much like the left wants to turn George W. Bush into their Nixon for a new generation but I don't think that's going to work.
Love the new season of Chuck and I hope NBC buys more episodes for this seasons since they'll soon have five extra hours of prime time to fill. It's the show I most look forward to new episodes of.
Did he do everything right? No, but you knew where he stood and you knew he loved the country. A class act who is greatly missed.
Amen
Thanks for including the video of the speech. I was going to skip it, but then decided it would be good to hear the words again years later with the perspective of all that has happened since and where we are today.
I fervently pray that President Obama never has to give a similar address during his (hopefully one-term) presidency. I don't believe he has the depth of character or reservoir of faith to deliver such words in as powerful a fashion.
Thank you, President Bush. You may not have been perfect, but you did what you thought was right for the benefit of this great country. Enjoy a well-earned rest knowing that there are many of us that are grateful for your service to America.
amen to that
One of the biggest things that changed in the late-1960s and 1970s was a shift in the media's portrayal of children and their relationship with adults. Where children once needed the wisdom and supervision of adults, the media started portraying them as a source of wisdom often more honest and wise than the adults around them. If you want a good taste of how things have changed and how people once viewed giving power to children, watch the classic Star Trek episodes Charlie X, Miri, The Squire of Gothos, or And the Children Shall Lead or perhaps the classic Twilight Zone episode It's a Good Life.
Very well said!! Thank you for also standing strong on your beliefs and standing up for this great servant of our country. Indeed while President Bush wasn't perfect, he was a great President and we owe him much gratitude and respect.
Well written. I did not always agree with the president but I will never deny that he had some of the toughest 8-years of any president and held the country together during some of the worst of times. I am not sure I agree that history will be kind to him (history still views Nixon as the Watergate president, even though he affected some of the most progressive changes in the history of this country) but it should one day be kinder than the current generation of left wing journalists/bloggers.
Whilst I feel that GWB was an inherently good man, I do have to say that I believe that as a President I found his efforts to be, for the most part, unsuccessful. Respect for the office and the man yes, but I also believe that there is benefit in indentifying and understanding the flaws that accompanied his administration. In the same way that it is imperative that the current Democrats (and Republicans) hold Obama accountable to his actions, so to must the Republicans ensure that fondness for the former administration does not make them blind to its faults.
Only through this will indentification and refinement of all political powers, Republican, Democratic or Independent will the system hope to improve.
GW a doer whose thinking leads to action. Obama a thinker whose thinking leads to more thinking which leads to more thinking still.
Thank you for this article. It says what many of us think. Bush was not perfect, but he was a man with guts enough to do what he thought was right no matter how the political winds were blowing, and to work for the people. He believed in America. He believed in what we stand for and repesent.
Now that is a great picture. Didn't agree with most of his later decisions but can never forget how he acted right after 9/11. God bless you, Dubya.
There are a number of other articles here on "the Bigs" that address GWB's shortfalls and failures as a president. There are many responses here (including my own) that acknowledge that GWB was not a perfect president. However, I see this particular article by Mr. Baldwin as a tribute to President Bush's ability to stand tall and strong at a time when our nation was reeling from an unwarranted and unprovoked attack against our citizens. Please don't pee in the pool…
Here we are a year later.
Unemployment is in double digits. (Remember when the unemployment rate was <5% under Bush? The propaganda media kept carping the "they aren't good jobs". Well good or not, they were jobs. Ask the people who now have no jobs whether they'd like their old Bush "ungood" job back.)
Terrorists once again feel free to attack us on our shores. Bush kept us safe from 9-11-01 to the day he left office. Since the new president has been sworn in, we've had one deadly attack, a near catastrophe over Detroit and numerous foiled attempts. We've apologized to the Muslim world for our existence and that has emboldened them. They are of a culture that does not respect accommodation. They see it as weakness. In this instance, they're right.
Our economy is in the tank.
Our foreign policy is worse. We've dissed Britain and Israel, sucked up to Russia and China to no avail, Iran is still making a nuclear bomb, North Korea is playing us like a badly tuned guitar.
Emergency services. The propaganda media was in full throat when Bush didn't get aid and supplies to New Orleans in two days — never mind that he could not send troops without the request of the governor of the state (the posse comitatus act ). It's been over seven days since Haiti was struck by an earthquake and people and the government and the lapdog media congratulate themselves on getting them some water. Big whoop! In reality, the response in Haiti has been dismal and had Bush been in office, the propaganda media would have had his head by now.
Obama is a disaster as president, ill-equipped and incompetent. But we knew he had no credentials when we elected him. The media has no such excuse. They're supposed to be professionals. Instead, they're nothing but a bunch of sycophants hell bent and determined to remake the USA in to a clone of the now extinct USSR.
Stop it Mr. baldwin, lest I develop a man crush! Time and again you provide excellent insight.
So when are you going to follow Reagan's lead and make the move to politics, we need more stand up folks in leadership positions.
Another good effort, Adam. I think we need to get YOU involved in politics asap. Have you ever considered taking your message to Washington? You've got one vote already!
Thank you, Adam. What strikes me is how relatively young President Bush looked on this occasion–just days after 9/11, and how very old, grey and lined he was a year ago today. A really good president literally gives his life for this country. The cost of our safety showed clearly in his premature aging.
"He kept us safe." What greater thing could be said about a commander-in-chief? In other words, he did his job.
Hey Adam, I was the Officer on the second floor by the elevator that day you met President Bush, you were nice. I had worked all night and was tired so I didn't really say much. You looked at me funny when I asked where the ride was ending. Plus I didn't know you were a good conservative, wished I'd known that then and I'd probably had said more. Anyhow, great tribute and thanks for it all!!
As opposed to Obama who shows now emotion or passion of any sort when talking about the loss of life. Remember Obama's speech an hour after the Fort Hood TERRORIST attack? He took the time to yuk it up with friends in the crowd and give shoutouts – it wasn't until two minutes into his speech that he mentioned Fort Hood. He is the Commander -in-Chief, twelve soldiers are killed and he has no emotion whatsoever. Obama fits the profile of a classic malignant narcissist.
I was in Taiwan at the time of 9/11. I was working overseas quite a bit then and did not get to see this until today. I sure do miss George W Bush. I disagreed with him on many things ut I was always sure he was acting in what he believed was best for the country even sacrificing his own popularity to do so. This was not acting Ideologically as our current President is doing but acting as Commander in Chief. A man does not get to choose the difficulties he must overcome and President GW Bush is a man.____Thanks Adam for this post. By the way I am a loyal fan and watcher of Chuck. I hope that a more Casey priented episode is in the works.
Thanks A.B.
Amazing how just hearing his voice again is a bit sensational.
Nice tribute Adam, unfortunately I think GWB will be remembered primarily for the war in Iraq, and this will sadly overshadow the good that he did, especially following the 9/11 attacks.
9 months into Obama's term as president he was blaming the nation's woes on Bush.
9 months into Bush's term as president he was not blaming the nation's woes on Clinton.
Thank you so much for saying what many of us are feeling. I did not agree with all of his policies but I never once doubted that he had the best interests of the US in mind. He may not have been the most eloquent of men but then neither was another great man, the Apostle Paul. Nevertheless, he spoke from the heart & when you do that you don't always sound "smart". Obama's speeches may sound polished but take his teleprompter away & he most likely would a bit like GW (minus the TX drawl). President Bush was criticized constantly yet he never struck back at his critics in the manner of our current President. May God bless you for voicing a very unpopular view, particularly in Hollywood. Yvonne
Thanks for the reminder Adam.
GWB was an eloquent speaker with prepared remarks. This speech and the one he gave at the UN are brilliant examples of effective rhetoric. The "insects of the hour" may cavil at his Texas twang and occasional mispronunciation, but they cannot deny the substance of what he said.
Our current President's rhetoric is just the reverse. With his mellifluous baritone and crisp diction, he could sound impressive reading the phonebook. As long as one pays no attrention to the actual content of what he says, one is left with the impression of clear, if cold, intelligence and competence. But substance is what counts in the end.
At the end of his first year in office, Obama seems the only person who still believes in his own lugubrious snake oil pitch.
Love that picture!
Thank you Adam. What a lovely tribute to a President that kept our country safe all those years after 9/11. Mr. Bush and his lovely wife have shown such class in recent months even with the present administration blaming it all on Bush/Cheney. The Bush Administration knew how to fight terrorism, the current one not so much.
Thank you President Bush for keeping us safe. May God bless you and may God bless the United States of America.
People keep saying that he is agreat orator, but I don't see it. To me PEBO sounds like an 8th grader reading a school report to his class.
Beautifully written, sir. Well done.
OMG!! Baldwin has got to be joking!
GWB will be remembered for what he was…
A war mongering, economy crashing,
corrupt and power-hungry pawn in the
service of his deluded neocon handlers.
Another well thought-out piece. Keep'em coming! (BTW, I never watched CHUCK until I read your work. I enjoy the show and like that it has people of character and faith in the cast. NBC should use your success as a template).
Only among hate-mongering, entitlement-seeking, uber-corrupt, communist- hungry pawns such as yourself.
Thanks for that, Adam. Now I really, really am in love with your character "Jayne" on Firefly! Thank you!
I miss the bushisms. they are a heck of a lot better than 'um oh ah'.
and now will we wait another 4 years for a health care bill? Its not Obama thinking he's acting..What happened the past 8 years under bush? It was not even a topic. Now Obama has to take on Bush and HIS war and try to fix the healthcare bill that bush never even talked about while premiums are outragous. Can you afford 200% increase by then? He just thinking? I disagree with you.
John by all means feel free to disagree with me. We don't live under the Hammer and Sickle yet… That premise I can't afford. Can You.
I really miss this guy. A REAL president. Not like the punk ass in there now.
As many of you have already said – he wasn't perfect, but there was class to him, and a goodness of heart; self-depracation and a good sense of humor. And definitely a love of Country and unwavering Faith.
Perfect, no.
A good man nonetheless.
Thank you, Adam for the piece. Well-written.
Keep swallowing the Kool-aid!
Never let reality intrude upon your myopic view of the world or allow the obvious truth to dissuade you from left-wing blather points.
Facts, those troublesome contradictions like the election in Massachusetts last night should never be allowed to illuminate the slimmy cobwebbed darkness of your little, little mind.
Your ungrateful, worthless life was defended by and is here to complain and whine only because GWB did the right thing not the party thing , not the popular thing but the right thing for all of USA .
Try not to act down to the low standards of behaviour that you you left wing microcephalics typically seem predisposed to… it only reinforces the stereotypes so many have of you and we know you hate that profile.
I didn't always see eye-to-eye with President Bush on domestic policy issues. I don't think there are very many people in the country who did. But I have never once doubted that he was a good man. He is kind to, and respectful of, others, even those who show him nothing but open disdain in return. He is decisive in his leadership, and he has the integrity to stand by his convictions, regardless of the personal cost. He has the courage to turn to God for guidance in a society that openly mocks that decision. He clearly loves his country and wants to do what is best for America. We don't always agree on what the best thing happens to be, but I do not doubt his sincerity. Whatever else you may say about him – and some people have said quite a lot, comparing him to Hitler and Satan, among others – he is a decent man.
Amen. It's a debt we can only repay by making sure people don't forget.
What the hell is the matter with you, Adam? He lulled the conservative movement to sleep and far away from its principles, destroyed the Republican Party, and took down the country with his ridiculous left-of-center economic policies. He practically destroyed the country! And you are all googly-eyed because of the GWOT, a war he did not even take seriously (he attacked Iraq instead of Iran and then hamstrung the troops with ridiculous operational constraints and ROEs…why?). Oh, he charismatically bantered with you and took a picture with you, and he cried with veterans' widows at gravesites, so he is just a swell guy, right? Wrong! He is a piece of crap who knew how to manipulate the emotions of other people to make them like him and think he was the greatest leader since George Washington.
In actuality, he was an incompetent who survived as an emotional con man, and he let Cheney, a true conservative, take the fall for his bad decisions, having not listened to Cheney at all, all the while pretending to be a conservative. How many people lost their jobs, life savings, and opportunities because of him? How many soldiers died unecessarily because of him? It infuriates me that you think everyone should just get over the injustices perpetrated by him because he makes you feel all warm and cozy and snuggly inside.
What will Obama be remembered as?
He wouldn't even make a decent lawn jockey.
The Insect critics on this thread could also view it this way:
Bush made it possible for the ascendency of Obama, who is now after only one year a lame duck that has lead the exposure of the ugly, destructive face of Leftism for all to see.
Buh Bye, uh ahh umm, Obama!
You are neutralized thanks to Bush's long-view of the long war.
I've not always agreed with GW, but President Obama has sure made me miss the former president.
Say what one might about the man, but I truly believe that September 11th, 2001 forever changed him.
After all he went through—daily crusifixtions by the press—vocal protests over the war in Iraq (but thoroughly covered by the MSM) he still has class as one of his most vocal opponents and his party(dem) go down in a ball of flames trying to push through the most leftist liberal agenda since FDR dispite the ever increasing People opposition. He keeps his thoughts to himself and as he said as he left us, He'll let history be the judge of his years of service.
Thank you Adam for your posting today.
Bush = Man
Obama = Man-child
Thank you Adam for honoring this decent and honest man. A man who took his oath of office seriously and did all he could to protect our lives and freedoms, with unprecedented resistance from the left…..Read: Scott Brown's Christmas Gift…at…
http://cooperscopy.blogspot.com/
Loyalistman….Thank You! These totally naive idiots on here worshipping Bush were starting to drive me insane. I needed a voice of truth. Unlike these fools who are being played like a fiddle by the false left/right paradigm.
I get discouraged because I like to come on here and read articles I agree with for the most part but then things like this jolt me back to the realization that these people aren't really awake to the total corruption in our governement as a whole–they're just against a "left wing" president and his horrible agenda…when the next phony "right winger" is propped up they'll let all the same corruption slide because now it's "MY Guy!"
I've realized that nobody can think and judge clearly with a right mind when it sees everything as Left vs Right instead of the more noble and realistic Liberty vs Tyranny. In all it's forms.
This November would be a good time to resurrect Reagan's line "are you better off now than [two] years ago?".
Well, done Adam and thanks for the tribute to President Bush.
Great piece. Expresses my sentiments perfectly.
On an unrelated note, Adam is fantastic in "Chuck". It's a great ensemble cast and Adam's character is really rich and deftly portrayed. I always look forward to Monday night and a new episode.
excellent piece, Adam. Hope to hear more from you. BTW, still pissed about Firefly!!!
Amen. A truly good and great man. May the good Lord always bless and keep you and yours, President Bush. Thank you for your service.
I miss President Bush so much. He was wrong on some things but overall he was a good good man.
He never said a bad word about anyone despite the irrational Bush Derangement. I'll forever be grateful to him for keeping us safe after 9/11. That day changed my life. I'm on of the "morons from flyover country who are too stupid to know what's good for them" I live in South Dakota and even my state is being invaded by liberals who destroy their own states then leave to destroy their new state by voting the same types into office. They're "locusts"
Happily wait for 4 more years … preferably 400 years for the bucket of crap they are calling a health care bill. Someone, anyone explain to me how what Obama proposes is going to save anyone money? On the face of it, anything the government involves itself in ends up costing more. And secondly, since no one knows what is in the bill, any claims to saving money is just that much nonsense.
.Well said and timely.
Thanks, Adam, for the tribute to President Bush. To the MSM and all the hateful, nasty people who said disrespectful things about Bush: a big ol' Casey snarled lip "Grrrr " to you!
(Love Chuck!)
I never doubted that when President Bush took a stance it was because he felt it was what was right or best for this country.
President Bush did better getting assistance to the tsunami victims 1,000's of miles away than Obama has to Haiti.
There are many items on the list of things I cannot forgive regarding the malice of the Left, particularly in the leftist media. The horrible treatment of George Bush is at the top of that list. They still haven't let go of their derangement, even with Sarah Palin and Glenn Beck to attack. Obama is not the most venomous, but is arguably the worst offender. History will treat George well – and recognize Obama for the arrogant, simpering, manipulative leftist that he is.
Oh, How I yearn for our current Administration to extend those words or Unity to We The People.
Our Nation has been infiltrated Fellow Patriots – It is time to Embrace what still remains & fight for what has been taken. It appears that our enemies are not just those waging Jihad, we are facing for the first time in American History, domestic enemies – those within our own Government. Our Founding Fathers warned us! Tyranny is approaching quickly.
United We Stand & Divided We Fall
Thank you so much for this, Adam! President Bush was (and is) a man with strong principles who stood up for the freedoms and liberty that is America. It is so nice to see him honored in this way.
I couldn't help tearing up while watching the video. Your words and sentiment were equally touching. I really do miss him.
Adam, you are the most pleasant of surprises — a valiant patriot amongst the vipers of Hollywood.
Many talk; you have laid your very livelihood on the line. That's guts. Good on ya'.
Totally agree!! What a wonderful man and wife and two great daughters. What a great tribute to our country to be represented with such honor and dignity in such a tragic time.
John, do you honestly believe that Obama's nationalization of health care will 1) cost less; 2) deliver better service; and 3) cover everyone?
Do you also believe that any government program has ever cost less than its advertised price and also delivered its original intent?
Do you believe welfare actually helps people get out of poverty?
Do you believe in the tooth fairy?
Met President Bush when he was Governor of Texas. He's more man than the rest of the nation could hope to be. He's also a much more relaxed person now that he doesn't have all the morons after him. Saw him in San Antonio a couple of months back. You could tell he was home again.
*facepalm*
This country is in a very bad place right now. President Bush is no small part of the reason why.
You conservatives never cease to amaze me with your ability to completely deny reality and your ability to hastily jump to (wrong) conclusions.
I don't mean to demean your concerns (except those regarding gay marriage and creationism in schools). Indeed, a government that can't manage its capital or resources is not a good thing at all. A politician that breaks campaign promises isn't a good thing. It's not a bad thing to criticize President Obama… WHERE HE MERITS CRITICISM.
But attacking him and the Democrats as "socialists" or "anti-Americans" or "terrorists" is out of line, period. Then there are the blatantly false debates that you subscribe to (and thusly empower), including, but not limited to: "Death Panels" in H.R. 3200 (there never were any, this was a fake debate point from the get go), CONTINUING to question President Obama's presidential legitimacy (his Hawaiian birth certificate has been publicly available since June of 2007, corroborated by the archives of two Hawaiian newspapers – it's over, and you never had any evidence in the first place).
President Bush broke campaign promises. He spent money like it was going out of style to INVADE two countries, one of which had done nothing to provoke such aggression. We have nicer looking technology now, but that was the private sector at work — not Bush. As far as American entry into the 21st century goes, we're positively pathetic looking. We're the richest single nation in the world and our average internet speed actually went DOWN. Our energy grid is inefficient and loses a lot of power when transmitted over great distances, a feature which would've been useful for us to have during, say… Katrina. We're still quite dependent on Middle Eastern oil and are now MORE dependent on non-regenerative fossil fuels like coal and natural gas.
Sorry, but… your hypocrisy and ability to overlook flaws with your own candidates completely undermines our system of government, and it will lead to the failure of this country. Type "God Bless America" all you want, but when the coal runs out, that won't help. Solar panels will, but god forbid we go green. Then those hippies would be happy, and we don't want THAT.
Thank you, Adam.
And thank you, President Bush!
Amazing how the leftists of this country thought Bush was another Hitler, yet he left office after his term ended without the need of a bloody overthrow.
Sir, I have enjoyed watching your movies since the early Eighties and have even more respect since you began posting on this site. It's amazing how the majority of this country on 9/12/01 voiced their relief that Bush and not Gore was President. Then as the fear subsided and they felt safe with no additional attacks in the country, those on the left began to rewrite history and bash Bush. As the war in Iraq became harder even some Republicans began to turn their backs on him and when 2006 and 2008 did not go well for them, even more put the blame on him instead of their own bad policies. George Bush was not perfect and I did not always agree with him, but I take great pride in having returned to active duty for a year with him as my Commander-In-Chief.
I have a confession. I really, really wanted McCain to win the 2000 primary &, obviously, the presidency. I also spent much of Mr. Bush's second term ill & stupid. I see now, finally, the interesting way the media assigns roles to presidents, much like junior high school kids decide the kid with the funny accent is trouble (that was me) & the one who wears make up already is the arbitrary uberbeing who can do no wrong.
I do recognize now that he didn't retaliate when citizens spoke their minds against him, and, more importantly, has yet to say a discouraging word against the current president despite ample opportunity to justifiably do so. This denotes a certain level of class that was not returned to him by many of us. Indeed, although your tribute to him was totally nonpartisan & nearly apolitical, there were still a couple of bugs using this opportunity to gnaw on the right. Maybe it's not just a good crisis they can pass up…an unabashedly sweet reflection on a beloved president is also fair game.
I love the National Cathedral, & I love these words spoken there. Thanks for posting them: "Goodness, remembrance and love have no end, and the Lord of life holds all who die and all who mourn." I truly believe this, & I gather from the way Mr. Bush comports himself in the face of adversity, he does, too.
Yeah, I never got that. Regardless of what you may think of his policies, I never understood where in the world people got the idea that this guy has even the SLIGHTEST OUNCE of charisma. He speaks with all the passion and emotion of a fencepost.
From Canada…
True and timeless words, Adam.
I love my country and ,like any solid community, I love and care for my neighbour – the United States of America.
I miss GWB :'( He was what was needed on 9/11 and if he was still in office there would have never been a terrorist tried in an American courtroom.
Well said, Adam. BTW this season of "Chuck" is awesome!!!
coal runs out — lol
Solar Panels will — lol
hippy libs will ever be happy — lol
bush was a big spender — lol
errrm, peak oil, McCarthyism, illegal war, big oil, halliburton, cheney=satan, what else, well theirs loads of other drivel but that about covers the summation of your post. Death Panels were in that iteration of the bill, Joe Wilson was also right. I don't know many people who can even recite W's platform prior to 9/11, but I can and chumps like you howled to the moon no matter which way the guy went.
News flash, wind turbines and reciprocation between private citizens and power companies is already happening, with out a big giant gubmint, the private sector SHOULD be the sector that is at work innovating, NOT BUSH, or any other President.
The best thing these suits in DC can do to develop tech, green or otherwise, is to gtf out of the way. It's stunning how you can weild accusations of hypocrisy and not smell your own upper lip….stunning.
Pops says "Fools and jackals will always nip at the heels of champions"

"In time, and with the benefit of “the distance of history”, objective chroniclers will no doubt cement President Bush’s collected record as Commander-in Chief as truly one of the greatest, albeit (as are all) imperfect, achievements in leadership and dignity that mankind has ever witnessed."
At least after Jenna Bush has her crack at the presidency.
I disagree about the re-election of GWB being about his dad. George the 2nd distanced himself from his dad and made his presidency his own. I think he was re-elected because his opposition was who it was.
And yes, bring on more Chuck–I love Adam's line in the last episode–"I love guns!" Yay!
