Public schools engage in "suppressing and/or demonizing varying, skeptical viewpoints"? Really? Like what? If you say intelligent design, I will laugh in your face.

"Statist canon like “social justice,” “global citizenship,” environmental “sustainability” and “multicultural education” are now pervasive in American schools, but are not sustaining captive young minds."

I copied and pasted that, and then kind of stared at it, 'cause I'm pretty much speechless. First of all, what does "not sustaining captive young minds" really mean? If you mean to say that our culture has created children are too stupid, lazy and self-obsessed to care about things like social justice and environmental sustainability, well, you're right — but that's not what you're saying. You're saying, it seems, that environmental sustainability and social justice and knowing about other cultures are things that should be optional in people's educations. I say that they already are, and to the detriment of our society.

Public school is not about indoctrination, no matter how much conservatives seem to be trying to make it about THEIR indoctrination while crying wolf about that hilarious old adage of liberal indoctrination.

Being a global citizen, to me and many others, has nothing at all to do with the whole world becoming one big country (although if it was a good, free country, would that be so bad?). It has to do with acknowledging that you live on the same planet as everyone else and working toward everyone having a decent shot at the same kind of lifestyle that you enjoy as a relatively wealthy American.

And I don't mean that everyone should have a chance to "pull themselves up by their bootstraps," because we have a lot of people in this world who are too poor to have bootstraps.

Our schools SHOULD teach us to be global citizens, because it's our job, as the people with the means to go out and do something, to help other people who weren't lucky enough to be born into United States citizenship.

It's worth noting here that I believe that America is the best country in the world, but that doesn't mean it can't get better — much better. More importantly, I don't want America to be the best country in the world. I want all the countries in the world to be the best countries in the world. And if I send my kids, if I ever have any, to public school, that's what I want them to take away from that.

So I guess my question, Mr. Baldwin, is what do you want?
